Matthews Obamagasm: 'This Isn’t Just Frigging the American Dream - It’s Darned Near Perfect'

By Noel Sheppard | March 03, 2011 | 20:54

MSNBC's Chris Matthews had multiple Obamagasms on his program again.

The thrills up his leg embarrassingly came at the beginning and the end of "Hardball" in what at times seemed like an hour-long commercial for the President's reelection (video follows with transcript and commentary):

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: The fact is that President Obama was playing that other all-American sport basketball. He was on a championship team. There's a great picture, looking great there, they won the Hawaii state championship. All this is on the record. He was a regular kid who kept his nose clean, did everything right, ended up on the Harvard Law Review. Has a wonderful marriage, a wonderful wife, she got herself through Princeton I believe. Her brother coaches out at Oregon State. Everything about them is 100 percent true blue American. They have done everything right in their life, done nothing wrong in their life. They haven't gone out and gobbled for money. They have done the right thing in terms of public values.

Eric, I just want to get back to you, sir. It just seems to me when a guy has done every darn thing right to live the American dream, even to the point of perfection. […]

Michael, I wonder what the conversations are like in the black community about this. I mean, you're not speaking for it or anything, but it must be amazing in the barbershops and regular places where people talk, you know, chatting about this where there's a guy out there who's done everything right. It's not like he's done a couple of things wrong in his life. I mean this guy's the dream.

MICHAEL ERIC DYSON: Look, look, if you can't like this black man, not only as president, but as another human being, there's no black man been made that's existing that you will like.

Readers are reminded this was a television program on a so-called news network not an advertisment from the Committee to Reelect Barack Obama.

But there was more to this sickening display, for Matthews actually put an exclamation point on it at the end of the show:

MATTHEWS: Let me finish tonight with this horrible talk we're hearing in this country. I was out last night in California in Los Angeles with a large group of former Peace Corps volunteers like me. We were at UCLA talking about the Corps ' 50th anniversary this week ever since John F. Kennedy decided it was a good idea to get young Americans out there in the world helping countries develop, sharing some of our American can-do spirit and in the process learning something about how the rest of the world looks at things. It came to me that everything good about that is being assaulted these days. This guy Huckabee and Gingrich and Dubya before him were out there trashing the whole idea of learning anything from throughout the world, anything from the rest of the world. This whole stupidization of things that began with Bush's inane attempt to rename French fries. Now this guy Huckabee is going around the rightwing radio world singing the song that our president isn't really one of us, because his father, who stayed with him until the age of two, infected him with some kind of foreignness. You know, he's a Kenyan, he’s a secret Muslim, he's from over there where those African people are, those different people live. I thought we were beyond this yahoo talk, this fear of the world, this monkey trial nonsense. But we're not, are we?

We’ve got knuckleheads promenading around the rightwing radio belt playing to the God knows who crowd saying how Obama was somehow involved with the Mau Maus, hanging around madrasa schools. All the while though this young kid way back then tried to make it in this country, and all he did, everything he did was right as a regular American kid, playing basketball on a championship team in Hawaii. That's what I wanted to do growing up, be a championship basketball player. He went to Catholic school like I did. He got into Occidental College out in California, then to Columbia University. Then he went to the Ivy League and went to Harvard Law where he made the Law Review.

What more do you want this kid to do? He's done everything right. Look at his marriage. Michelle’s done everything right. Her brother is a top basketball coach out at Oregon State. The kids look like they're right out of a picture book. This isn’t just frigging the American dream, it’s darned near perfect. And what is this rightwing goon squad doing? They keep talking about his father, his grandfather. What about his grandfather who fought under Patton in World War II? What are these people looking for some evidence that he's black? Is that it? They ought to be ashamed themselves.

You know, you want to know what's un-American? Huckabee and Newt and the rest of them. This stuff is.

Actually, Chris, what's un-American is a so-called journalist night after night gushing and fawning over an elected official while demeaning and defaming all those on the opposite side of the aisle that don't agree with him - or you!

We're 20 months from Election Day 2012.

Can you imagine what this shill and the rest of his pathetic excuse for a "news" network are going to do once the campaign season really begins?

Perish the thought.

*****Update: Jeff Dietz of Yid With Lid accurately points out that George W. Bush didn't come up with the concept of renaming French fries. As CNN.com reported in March 2003:

The cafeteria menus in the three House office buildings changed the name of "french fries" to "freedom fries," in a culinary rebuke of France stemming from anger over the country's refusal to support the U.S. position on Iraq.

Ditto for "french toast," which will be known as "freedom toast."

The name changes were spearheaded by two Republican lawmakers who held a news conference Tuesday to make the name changes official on the menus.

Across the country, some private restaurants have done the same.

"This action today is a small, but symbolic effort to show the strong displeasure of many on Capitol Hill with the actions of our so-called ally, France," said Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, the chairman of the Committee on House Administration.

Not surprisingly, facts are unimportant to Matthews and Company when bashing a Republican is the order of the day.

The folks at MSNBC and Comcast should be so proud of the research skills at their so-called "news" network.

The looks on his face tonight, his body langauge, I can just imagine the possibilities.  Panama Tingles has, without a doubt, gushed over Obama from the get go, but tonight, this was something different. I have been watching him a long time. Matter of fact, one of his books was the first political book I ever read.

I am starting to wonder if his gushing hasn't changed from trying to convince everyone else, to him working serious overtime trying to convince himself.

As Noel pointed out, he basically repeated the same things over and over and over.  Quite strange, even for Chris Mathews, imho.

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.

Bench warmer.

Submitted by upcountrywater on Thu, 03/03/2011 - 9:24pm.

Obama constantly nursed a sore butt from repeated long sessions
warming the bench as a non-starter who rarely played during games.  For example, Obama didn’t play in the final championship game until the
contest was already decided, and Obama score a mere single basket in
that game, a basket with utterly no significance to the outcome of that
game.

In Obama’s senior year, the Varsity Basketball team overpowered Moanalua High School 60 - 28 to win the State championship title.

Obama came to blame his failed career as a basketball
player on “structural racism” on the part of his coach, who Obama
charged with playing a “white” game (despite the fact that four of his
starters where non-white) instead of his own “black” game.

You Didn't Build That.

Matthews - bought and paid for - a true political whore

Submitted by Slyrr on Thu, 03/03/2011 - 9:42pm.

What's to be expected?  Obama signs Matthews paychecks.  Through GM/Universal, Obama owns BSNBC and everyone who works there.  Matthews 'reports' are bought and paid for, using our taxpayer dollars, as Obama's campaign channel.

Even if Matthews wanted to, he's under orders now.  He can't say anything negative about his boss or he's toast.  Obama's doubtless laughing and saying to Matthews, 'I've got my boot on YOUR neck too!'

But Matthews can ease his guilt by telling himself, 'Well I agree with his communist agenda anyway.'

I'm sure hookers use similar rationalizations while they're talking up their customers, no matter who they are.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

Chris Matthews

Submitted by trueconserv on Thu, 03/03/2011 - 9:48pm.

Talk about lunacy! Chris Matthews has no concept of reality. What he OMITS from his cheer for Obama is that Obama's father WAS a communist and so was his grandfather and mother.  Matthews OMITS that Obama's grandfather introduced young, impreshionable Obama to noted marxist, Frank M. Davis. And we were first introduced to him in his book, "Dreams of My Father" as just 'Frank'. Not to mention that 'Frank' had a big FBI file him. Isn't it amazing, that of ALL people in Hawaii to become friends with, it just happens to be a marxist?

Then Matthews talks about this so-called All American guy. Well, this 'guy' spent time in Afghanistan in the early 1980's when American citizens weren't allowed to travel there. I wonder how he was able to get there? Second, this 'guy' spent his college days seeking to hear the messages of the "marxist professors". After reading the article in 'The American Thinker' last week from a former Marxist who met with Obama and had political coversations with him, his take on Obama at that time was that Obama was spearheading a marxist revolution in the early 80's. He didn't just take leftist classes, he breathed it. His friends were extreme leftist ideologues and Matthews can't spin it only so much.

Then there's the Bill Ayers' angle with his wife, Bernadine Dorn. Those two are not your ordinary surburban couple in your neighborhood! It is where he started his state senate campaign. What is not mentioned is that they were violent members of the terrorist group, the Weather Underground. And Obama and Ayers sat on two Boards together that gave money to Jeremiah Wright's educational views of black liberation theology. Oh, how quaint. And oh, did I mention that Ayers knew Davis?

And as we all know, his 'preacher', Jeremiah Wright isn't your regular preacher. He preached that we got what we deserved after 9/11 and spends his time with Louis Farrahkan. Those are some friends! We know NOTHING about how Obama got into Occidental College or the grades he got, actually, we have NO GRADES at all from any colleges Obama went to.

This 'All-American' guy comes from Chicago who got everyone else off the balot in order for him to win the state senate. He can't produce a birth certificate. He can't produce a single Harvard law Review article that HE wrote!

Matthews should take out 'American' and put marxist revolutionary in it's place, because that is the truth.

Sorry, but the only thing I can fathom - with the over-the-top adulation and constant references to skin color - is that Matthews is over-compensating for his real (private) views about blacks. It's as if he's trying to prove something to the world...or to himself.

Also his penchant to refer to those he  looks down on  in derogatory terms...yahoos...and recently as right-wingers from the back country.  Exactly what IS the "back country" Chris?

Obama did everything right? How about stealing his 1st election?

Submitted by Gary Hall on Fri, 03/04/2011 - 1:01am.

chicagotribune.com. April 3, 2007, MAKING OF A CANDIDATE - Obama knows his way around a ballot

And they kept challenging petitions until every one of Obama's four Democratic primary rivals was forced off the ballot.

Fresh from his work as a civil rights lawyer and head of a voter registration project that expanded access to the ballot box,

But in that initial bid for political office, Obama quickly mastered the bare-knuckle arts of Chicago electoral politics. His overwhelming legal onslaught signaled his impatience to gain office, even if that meant elbowing aside an elder stateswoman like Palmer.

A close examination of Obama's first campaign clouds the image he has cultivated throughout his political career: The man now running for president on a message of giving a voice to the voiceless first entered public office not by leveling the playing field, but by clearing it.

Anyone on the left who has ever expressed angst over President George W. Bush's win over Al Gore in the Nov., 2000 presidential contest, should have been calling for the candidate Obama here to be locked away for life. This is stealing an election - the ole community organizing way.

That should put a tingle up your leg, Chris Matthews!

So I was just

Submitted by killa37 on Fri, 03/04/2011 - 1:03am.

So I was just thinking.............the Leghumper was at some 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps (can he pronounce it as well as Barry can???....without spitting???)..........and I'm wondering how all of that volunteer work on poverty, hunger, filth, dirty water, raggedy clothes, poor farming techniques, malaria, famine, and tsetse flies has been going since then  - I thought they took care of all of that!!! Kinda like the  success of 'hope and change', huh???

And - to answer that fool Dyson - who seems to like being called all three of his names - I HAVE met quite a few 'black' men (and women and kids) who I DO like.................and guess what?? They are REAL 'black' people, from THIS country - as well as from other countries - who ARE 100% 'black', and it's NOT the focus of their existence!!!! They're NOT like our own Poser In Chief...............who, as far as I'm concerned, is also a poser 'black' man, since he has NO background in the American 'black' experience, and on top of that, isn't even HALF 'black'!!!!

So.......it's the 'friggin' American Dream"???? You're 'friggin' delusional!!!!!

Minipads for Matthews

Submitted by Pharmer on Fri, 03/04/2011 - 1:14am.

Sorry....... couldn't help it.... too much time in retail pharmacy.

Matthews is over the top, and has probably become a source of amusement even to his own side.

The most fun was hearing Michelle Bachman abusing Matthews for his tingly man-crush on Obama.

As for the "1st  marriage".... it's not perfect.   It seems to be much like camelot........ with a backwards twist.

Nobody does funny & sad like

Submitted by Miss_Me_Yet on Fri, 03/04/2011 - 1:55am.

Nobody does funny & sad like Chris Matthews. That deserves some kind of mental illness award. Even funnier,  Barack is listening up in his bedroom, jumping up & down in the isle, giving witness,  just like the good old days in brother Wright's front row.Can I get an amen brothers & sisters...Hallelujah...thank you, thank you brother Matthews.

Bozell Expressed It Best

Submitted by Boil It Down on Fri, 03/04/2011 - 2:26am.

"Matthews is parody of himself". This could be taken straight to SNL without editing.

Think how devastating it would be for Matthews if he suddenly developed self awareness and was made to watch all of these painfully embarrassing episodes. What would that do to a person? It would certainly be what he deserves for the damage he's done.

As a matter of fact, let's all pray together that Chris Matthews be blessed with self awareness as soon as possible. I have done just that.

This is what a 'Perfect'

Submitted by Van Halen on Fri, 03/04/2011 - 2:35am.

This is what a 'Perfect' American Dream looks like under Obama:

An economy in shambles.
A foreign policy in tatters.
The Democrat Party broken, having lost 700+ seats.
The crown jewel of his presidency declared unconstitutional.
Gas, food, clothing prices skyrocketing.
The Middle East in turmoil and the President throws a Motown concert with his corporate millionaire Democrat pals.
Declares his loyalty to the unions versus the American taxpayer.

Chris Tingle Raves Again

Submitted by JoeP55 on Fri, 03/04/2011 - 4:08am.

Articles like this let me know i'm not alone in being so flabbergasted at how Matthews and MSNBC in general, especially 5 to 11 p.m., are so downright hateful of anything conservative or Republican and so, well, brainwashed by anything Democratic.  I hate to think of the couple hundred thousand fan(atic) watchers of Matthews and Maddow, et al, who believe the twisted "truth" they are spewing.

But why do the Republicans/conservatives stoop to their level in so many ways?  Why can't we act like adults instead of this tit-for-tat crap?

Huckabee was a lying idiot, and he knows it, too, when he said Obama grew up in Kenya.  And when right-wingers call Obama a socialist, that's just nonsense.  There's been some level of "social justice" in this country ever since it was founded.  There is a winnable debate to be had about how Obamacare is going to cost everyone way too much and bloat the government and all that, and it can be done without tossing in the word socialism just to stir up the lefties and make conservatives appear too extremist.

Obama said we should act like adults.  So far nobody is acting like an adult.  Maybe the Republicans should try that tactic for a change just to see what happens . . . that is, if they are adult enough to act adult.

I agreed with the first paragraph but then I realized you are another one of those people that claim to be independent but are really just hypocrites.  Obama not a socialist you say? That's extremist? "I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."  Nah, doesn't sound socialist at all.  Obama told us act like adults huh? I can't remember if that was before or after he said to bring a gun to a knife fight."  Can Republicans act like adults? I don't recall which party that guy was in that said "You're f#$%king dead" to a fellow lawmaker.  Must have been a Republikkkan.

Don't you just hate it when your right hand starts a post, and after the first paragraph, your left hand takes over and proceeds, throughout the rest of the post, to entirely contradict the message contained in that first paragraph?

What does the left hand want?

Submitted by Agnostic on Fri, 03/04/2011 - 6:21am.

Redistribution of wealth - Talks like a socialist

Programs and laws that require the tax payers to support the the non-taxpayers - Walks like a socialist

What exactly are we supposed to call President Obama?  A duck?  Wish he was a Lame Duck!

How long before socialist becomes the new 'gay'?  As in, he is a socialist, not that there is anything wrong with that.  But there is a lot wrong with that and conservatives have a right to point out why it is so wrong.

Perhaps the liberals have a new word that means socialist in a post-capitalistic society - perhaps a version of Progressive.

. . Socialist = Modern Liberal = Parasitoid

Chris's Mistake

Submitted by buckhilo on Fri, 03/04/2011 - 3:18pm.

After lambasting Mike Huckabee for being mistaken about where Barack Obama grew up, even though Huckabee had already corrected himself, Matthews then made a major mistake of his own. Saying, "He went to Catholic school like I did. " Obama did NOT attend a Catholic school in Hawaii. He went to Punahou, a secular K-12 school attended mostly by children of the wealthy. The school's tuition is so high that most residents can't afford it.
