Huckabee Strikes Back At Matthews: 'See a Doctor - You’re Off Your Meds and Out of Control'

As NewsBusters previously reported, MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Wednesday accused former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee of wanting to commit "ethnic cleansing" on Arabs in Israel's West Bank.

After conservative radio host Laura Ingraham played the "Hardball" clip to Huckabee on her radio program Thursday, the affable Fox News contributor had some choice words for the man that admits getting thrills up his leg when President Obama speaks (video follows with transcript and commentary):

LAURA INGRAHAM, HOST: Gee, it’s a real shock why MSNBC has about a third of the ratings of Fox on any given day. Well, we have the aforementioned ethnic cleanser in the studio.

MIKE HUCKABEE, FORMER ARKANSAS GOVERNOR: (Laughs)

INGRAHAM: Former governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee. His new book “Simple Government” just out. Well..

HUCKABEE: Just call me Mr. Clean. Can you believe this guy? I mean, come on. Chris Matthews, he’s got to be one of the most incredibly interesting people who gets a job in the media today. And he’s calling me a lunatic because I happen to believe that you can’t take a country like Israel, with its tiny little strip of real estate, and continue to allow its enemies to sit on top of them. Guess what? That doesn’t work. When you have this organization called the Palestinians, and they don’t even think that Israel should exist, and never have yet acknowledged their right to an existence, and you want to give more land to them so they can be even closer to your children’s playground so they can throw, shoot rockets at them, this is, this is really amazing.

But I tell you what, I want to say to Chris Matthews, “Chris, see a doctor. Do it quickly. You’re out of control. You’re off your meds. You absolutely must get help. And do it today.”

Fewer people watch Chris Matthews than are standing in line at the hot dog stand on Sixth Avenue in New York on any given day.

INGRAHAM: I would say that are in our other studio right now.

HUCKABEE: Yeah, that’s probably right.

Although Huckabee was being tongue-in-cheek, I don't think Matthews' problem is medicinal.

Other than the early days of "Hardball" when it was on CNBC and he wisely moved to the right to cater to a more conservative audience as a seemingly centrist host, Matthews has been far to the left and practically insufferable as both an author and commentator.

"McLaughlin Group" fans should recall his performances on that PBS program years ago were akin to Eleanor Clift's today. As such, I dont't think what ails this MSNBCer can be cured with pharmaceuticals alone.

On the other hand, medicating the audience might help.

Hmmm.

Bonus coverage at end of video features Huckabee taking on Politico's recent report that if he ran for President in 2012, it would only be to spite Mitt Romney.

→ On to Romney

Submitted by Cool Arrow on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 5:05pm.

Now, can any of us see Mitt Romney speaking the truth about Chris Matthews?

Huckabee may not be the optimum choice, but he's certainly ready to say his piece with a big exclamation point at the end of it.

Bob K,

Which is exactly why the Establishment media tells us all they are both "frontrunners".

The MSM wants to choose the candidates for us just as they have for the last half century (at least). We must reject another McCain being chosen for us this time around.

The Huckster might want to join him.

Submitted by Ashrak on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 5:11pm.

They could carpool.

The Huckster isn't doing so hot these days either, siding with Michelle Obama's food nazi NO SOUP FOR YOU angle. Yeah, thank and praise her, huh?  Sure. Uh huh. Riiiiiiiiight.

And you bet Huckster, you are in trouble with a lot of folks over it, just like you thought. As well you should be.

Don't get me wrong, I am glad he snapped on Mathews, Tingles needs snapped on. But you know what? So does the Huckster. And I say that as someone who was foolish enough to vote for him once.  But then, after Duncan Hunter bowed out of the race, who else could I have voted for here in Illinois? Obama? Yeah right.

The Huckster has allowed his own personal health issues to cloud his positions, and compromise his principles, and that is true from cigarettes to "healthy" eating.

A wolf in sheep's clothing is the Huckster.

I'd like to take Huck to my Baptist church, then sit around talking about the Razorbacks while eating pulled pork and cole slaw and drinking sweet tea. And, while he's not my "ideal" candidate, I'll vote for him if he's on the ticket.

Huck....

Submitted by adamsmith on Fri, 02/25/2011 - 9:54am.

I'm not big on Huckabee. I don't like his Social Conservatism. I don't believe he's a fiscal conservative. In the case he gets the Republican nod, I will gladly vote for him. He might not be my perfect candidate, not even a candidate I really like, but if it's him or Obama, Huck gets my vote. I will not be like others who throw a temper tantrum and stay home because their guy or gal didn't get it. I will vote for anyone who will dethrone the Annointed One. Our country is in big trouble and this is no time for political temper tantrums. I will also vote for Mitt, Sarah, Tim, Newt, and anyone else not in the Communist(Democrat) Party.....

Submitted by spepper on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 5:31pm.

As much as Huckabee's comments are on target, it is perhaps not appropriate or of any benefit for a person seeking the office of President-- that's exactly what twerps like "Tingly" Matthews want:  to get a reaction from folks who are exploring their candidacy, or who become the nominee-- as Keith Richards once said: "ANY publicity is good publicity" which is what Matthews gets when someone reacts to his wild, unsubstantiated accusations.......

Forget Romney or Huckabee,

Submitted by Miss_Me_Yet on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 5:47pm.

Forget Romney or Huckabee, they are both retreads like McCain, look where that got us.

We the People need someone that knows business, both in and outside the US. Someone that has met with, on his own terms, is respected by world and business leaders around the globe. Also has enough of his own money he won't need to steal ours. Cares for and excells at grooming the common man for success.

That man is Steve Wynn of Las Vegas fame. He is a self made man, employer of over 100,000 Americans and adding more each year, even in these rough times, able to communicate with everyone from his doorman to royalty without talking down or up to either.

Wayne Allen Root....

Submitted by adamsmith on Fri, 02/25/2011 - 10:01am.

He's got about as much chance of defeating Obama as my favorite, Wayne Allen Root. Root was a lifelong Republican, Goldwater conservative, and he believes the same things I do. As a Libertarian voter, I should vote for the Libertarian candidate. Only problem is he has a snowball's chance in Hell of winning. It's always the lesser of two evils, and this election is the same as '08. One side is pure evil Progressive Statism with a little Fascism and Communism thrown in for good measure. Obama wins reelection and its game over for the US....

Root's a joke.  Root can't imagine an America weak enough for his liking.

A TEENSY bit more than business knowledge is needed in the White House.

Does Mr.  Wynn feel comfortable with issuing orders that he knows WILL result in the deaths of people under his command?

Every one of his business /

Submitted by Miss_Me_Yet on Fri, 02/25/2011 - 1:45pm.

Every one of his business / life decisions have a life or death outcome, for his hundred thousand plus employees on a daily basis. Not to mention all the thousands of ancillary business that would not exist if it were not for Steve Wynn.

He is the real deal and could effortlessly transition to political life. I believe he would make the sacrifice for his country.   Don't judge a book by Obama.

Accept the basic difference between business and government

Submitted by Unsane on Mon, 02/28/2011 - 11:26pm.

BS.  Those hundred thousand employees aren't risking their lives for the Constitution of the United States.  There is a limit to the liabilities of those hundred thousand employees.

There is NO such limit applicable to members of the military, and if anything goes wrong, the deaths can hit the millions and pose an existential threat to the United States.

If Steve Wynn fails at an investment, a few thousand employees get laid off.  Or they get smaller bonuses.  When Germany decided they wanted Soviet real estate, it meant more to people in Leningrad and Kiev, among other places, than a tighter budget.

How will he be when people might DIE - not get laid off, not lose their jobs and livelihoods - DIE - as a result of his orders?  I don't know.  And neither do you.

I'll have to think about that

Submitted by Unsane on Tue, 03/01/2011 - 12:37am.

Not quite sure.  But I do not want to see business people - Steve Wynn, Donald Trump, et al, get in there.  The business world and the political world are different.  Corporations exist to make money, and government exists to kill people.

I'll have to think about that.

Huckabee's understanding

Submitted by jon_torlin on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 6:08pm.

I wouldn't have wanted to vote for Huckabee for some other reasons, but right now, given the situation this country is facing, and his recent trip to Israel, he's gotten a really good understanding of what kind of menance Islam really is.

We need someone really tough against them because that's our mortal enemy.  Would he do it?  I don't know.   I don't know of any other Republican that would take a stance against Islam, and to HELL with what CAIR thinks if a candidate has a problem with it, they are part of the Islam problem!

If we aren't careful, we are going to find ourselves surrounded by these animals because they are getting entrenched in various places and it seems to be growing like the cancer they are.

Huckabee's "foreign policy"

Submitted by Unsane on Fri, 02/25/2011 - 8:40am.

The "foreign policy article" authored by Huckabee in January 2008 in Foreign Affairs may convince you otherwise.  Huckabee needs to stay far, far away from the White House.

Realistic

Submitted by Jerry Mack on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 9:38pm.

I watched parts of Tingles shows recently. What I see is a person grasping for a place in the cable news/political venue. He is never quoted except to point out his unproven and unrealistic tirades. Do believe that Huckabee has a bigger weekend audience than Tingles week night. He has always been a little bombastic in his opinions. Now he seems to be going almost wacko. Tiger suit could be next!
