Breaking: House Defunds UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

By Noel Sheppard | February 19, 2011 | 12:05

The House of Representatives on Saturday voted to defund the United Nations' controversial Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Climate Depot reported moments ago:

Another victory for science! House votes 244-179 to kill U.S. funding of UN IPCC! 'It no longer wishes to have the IPCC prepare its comprehensive international climate science assessments.'

Hip hip hooray!

Of course, as this was mostly along Party lines, it seems quite doubtful this would pass in the Senate and even more unlikely it would survive an almost certain presidential veto even if it did.

Boy...on the surface this is FUN so far.....seeing this stuff actually getting written into bills and VOTED ON.....sure the senate might not pass much, but we will have bill after bill....issue after issue with the liberals "stamp" (vote) recorded for the 2012 election....just imagine the local ads in hundreds of districts pointing out the votes their rep made for this or that crazy policy.....this will be fun.

Hopefully Republicans at the federal and state level will keep up the pressure!  Move on all fronts, economic, regulatory, immigration and social issues.  Throw the liberals into chaos trying to keep up.  It's soooo Saul Alinsky.

OK I followed the links and found this gem: (emphasis mine)

“To give you the flavor of how the know-nothings are in the saddle, here’s the debate on the amendment to de-fund the IPCC (my unofficial transcript).

The amendment was sponsored by second-term Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-Missouri), who obviously knows nothing about climate science or the IPCC, and I expect could care less. His talking points were clearly provided by some denial machine operative and Mr. Leutkemeyer simply followed the script. … “        Ref:  (www) Climate Science Watch  “Promoting integrity in the use of climate science in government” (Posted on February 19, 2011 by Rick Piltz )

You just have to love the way this is all working out and the way the lock-step libs are going nuts!

I am Very Happy, Too

Submitted by Ogundipe S.O. on Sat, 02/19/2011 - 12:46pm.

As Kim Strassel wrote in WSJ, I just couldn't believe the U.S House is finally working to actually earn it's pay. I mean who would've expected this vote this early? The IPCC's redundant research is not only infuriating, it's become an embarrassment, too. This is an organization that has been discredited on all fronts, yet the democrats still intends to keep funding it in the face of a dire financial condition the country is in. No one is even talking about them anymore here in Nigeria. Albeit, I haven't seen the roll call yet, but given the fact that this vote is 244-179, would I be correct to ask '' where are the blue dogs"?? ''To Be A Man Is Not A Day Job''

Ogundipe....The Blue Dogs

Submitted by Blonde on Sat, 02/19/2011 - 12:49pm.

Many of the Blue Dogs were swept out by the Tea Party during the last election.

No doubt this vote was strictly a party line vote.  No matter, it's sweet.

I know most of them had been swept away by the Nov. 2nd Tsunami. But I know Heath Shuler, Matheson and a handful others are still caucusing, I would expect them to vote for bills like this. If they continue to abstain (vote present, a la Obama) or vote with Pelosi, then they should be ready to face the next Tsunami in line. If they could face it, that is. I like what I am seeing here to a point. Maybe we are entering a new era where politicians will work for our interests. However, the day that I trust a politician to do the right thing without self serving guile is the day you might as well put me in a hole and throw dirt on me.

Hide the tape!

Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 02/19/2011 - 12:49pm.

If that's the case, and it'd be a welcome one, we better hide motherbelt's duct tape so that they can't use it for their heads.

Or we could corner the market on it and buy as much of it as you can off the shelves of the stores. :-)

This is great news.....I hope

Submitted by Boil It Down on Sat, 02/19/2011 - 1:02pm.

Since they own the majority of the media, I think we can expect the sales pitches from the climate alarmists to rise above ear splitting levels in the next couple of months. It seems that the liberals and progressives have a new method of doubling down when their policies have been struck down. Instead of embracing reason, they press on, weakening their case.

I love the way Senator Inhofe stopped the climate alarmist, Mark Hertsgaard, cold in his tracks when Hertsgaard ambushed him. Inhofe made the case clear that expenditures for questionable science is fiscally irresponsible.

Liberalism is a religion

Submitted by needle on Sat, 02/19/2011 - 3:01pm.

Jonah Goldberg argues that Liberalism is a religion.  It is looking more and more like it is.  (Ann Coulter points out that its main sacrament is abortion.)  I hope we get to the point that it is Universally (OK, pun is intended) accepted as a religion; then we should strive to get it out of our schools.

Submitted by megapotamus on Sat, 02/19/2011 - 2:26pm.

is about the best news the nation has gotten in a year or more. Yes, there is little practical impact given the givens but we are getting people on record and blasting them loose from the "Conventional Wisdom" which is far more conventional than wise. The War on Fire has prospered only because the field of battle was largely surrendered to it without contest. It won't take much to push back the global warmng hoax when people realize what it will mean in practice to control or forbid CO2 emmissions and that there is, plainly, no good reason of any sort to restrict combustion in the relieving of human want.

Obama should be happy

Submitted by CobraMan on Sat, 02/19/2011 - 2:37pm.

Obama should be happy about developments like this.  After all, it's apparent that the House, under the Republicans, are on track to be "the most productive in the last 50 years" yet again. But, hay, who's the "Party Of No" now?

There has been some

Submitted by Cowboy on Sun, 02/20/2011 - 3:02pm.

There has been some dissatisfaction of the new GOP because of the numbers that they promised and have yet to deliver, but these guys have been picking exactly the right things to focus on so far. They have cut not just government spending, but the items that will demand more future spending. After the failed 'stimulus' I hate to use the word 'muliplier', but it sure does apply to the spending on the items hit so far.

Time to remove the artificial hamstringing.

Submitted by Ashrak on Sun, 02/20/2011 - 4:44pm.

Shep Smith keeping lamenting all these things as meaningless. Futile. A waste of time. I guess we see how he views the will of the people, huh? But aside from that, Harry Reid and his party are going to havr to answer come 2012, so too will Obama.

Republicans are developing a cadre of items that would be happening save Democrat stalling. As inflation sets in fully, as the middle east uproar continues to grow, it is only a matter of time before oil prices and thus gasoline prices rise.

I think it should be done RIGHT NOW, but Republicans are holding it back until :the right time". The House will, at some point, will pass legislation to open wide swaths of area for drilling (oil and natural gas).  This should be part of the the budget fight.

I like what Pubbies are doing so far and I remain patient. However, There will come a time when dealing with energy, most especially regulation of it stopping its development, can be said already should have been done. I think we are closer to that point than many Pubbies admit.

Efforts like this one are great, and they are a part of it, but the meat has be put on the plate at some point. Scraps will only suffice for a short time. And the clock is indeed ticking.

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.
