Ed Schultz Bashes Michele Bachmann for Doing Same Thing Obama Did in 2008

Just how ignorant of politics and recent history is MSNBC's Ed Schultz?

Well, on Friday, he attacked Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) for giving a competing response to the upcoming State of the Union address even though presidential candidate Barack Obama did the same thing in 2008 (video follows with transcript and commentary):

SCHULTZ: Welcome back to THE ED SHOW, the "Battleground" story tonight: Da Bears. No, that`s coming up later. Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is setting herself up for a presidential run. She`s in Iowa tonight speaking at an Iowans for Tax Relief event, and she`s meeting with the top Republicans in the state. Bachmann has been floated as a potential challenger to Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar in 2012, but folks, look, she wants something bigger than that. She wants it all. She wants the Oval Office.

Today, the Tea Party Express announced that Bachmann will give her own response to the State of the Union address. I think this is unbelievable. Has anybody else ever done this? Not only is Bachmann trying to put herself on equal footing with the President of the United States, she`s undermining her own party. Lots of loyalty there, huh? The Republicans already chose someone to give the response and that`s budget chair Paul Ryan, but Bachmann is going to rogue. I guess, you could say she`s going rogue.

As the folks at The Blaze reported Saturday, the official Democrat response to George W. Bush's final State of the Union address on January 28, 2008, was made by then Kansas governor Kathleen Sebelius.

However, then Sen. Barack Obama gave his own response at his campaign website.

The Huffington Post even reported the news that evening with a full transcript of his comments and the video:

As the Daily Caller reported Friday, Bachmann's response next week will be broadcast online. As such, what makes it any different than what Obama did three years ago?

I guess that answers Schultz's question, "Has anybody else ever done this?"

Nice job, Ed. Your employers must be so proud of you.

Ed's really Bob

Submitted by tvhall on Sat, 01/22/2011 - 11:19pm.

Maybe Ed should go back to his movie carrer.  He was the charter Bob in Monsters Vs. Aliens.

Bob was the ugly (but harmlessly cute) massive blob without a brain.  At least I think it was him, Ed and Bob could have been seperated at birth.

We are witnessing the last halcyon days of the FatEd Show on PMSNBC.  Like Olberdouche and the Passenger Pigeon, it will soon be extinct.

Hello again, NB'ers!  Sorry to be away so long, but having a new baby in the house will do that to a man.  But the last few weeks (let's be honest...two months) and the first three after the birth have been hectic.  But I'm back...missed you all (most especially MD, Dave, Blonde, CA...and my buddy Jer).  Promise not to stay away so long in the future.

Peggy Noonan doesn't even

Submitted by Hunter12 on Sat, 01/22/2011 - 2:31pm.

Peggy Noonan doesn't even have to hear the speech to tell you it will be unusually good.  In her words, "Why? Because he's showing signs of understanding that if you say something simply, clearly and sparingly, it can stick."   Maybe she's on to something, keep it short and don't following your usual tendency to fall in love with your own voice, Barack.  My prediction is it will be a long droner, beating up on the Republicans for an Audacity to Vote against his legacy.

This is such an unusual sight I want my friends here at NB to see it. The Cape Hatteras lighthouse is snowed in. There is no snow here but portions of the NC coast are getting more than they have seen in a while. My daughter is on her way up here from Havelcok. She said they had about 2" on Cherry Point. They are having to take to slow on US 70 because it is covered.

grass roots organizing meetings for the election. There is one being held at the university where I live, which concerns me because the local Dem party is hosting it...This is a public, taxpayer supported university, and as such, a clearly partisan, political event should not be taking place there. I am going to call the university president's office Monday morning to inquire as to why this is being allowed on campus and to tell him about my objection to it...I am also going to contact my local Repub party to find out if they know about it, and what their position is.

I have been pontificating on MSNBC's new direction

Submitted by gopcongress on Sat, 01/22/2011 - 3:35pm.

Obviously, the business model for MSNBC is completely broken. By any interpretation of business metrics, the network has to completely retool. In a three-network race, they are constantly in last place, or in second place. So unless it remains subsidized by G.E. (and everyone who has brains should divest from this dinosaur in the next two years), it has to significantly move to the right.

And not just to the center. They need to get some real conservatives on that network. Unless they can create a block, say, of Limbaugh, Levin, and perhaps Coulter, Bozell, or even Drudge, they will never compete against Fox News.

Of course, considering the Newsweak sale for a buck to someone to keep the editorial content on the same par as the cold war Pravda news syndicate, I don't see GE moving to the right anytime soon. They may try to get a couple of token conservatives, or more RINO's (or even fake RINO's like Joe; yes, it's a redundancy, but it's appropos here), but unless they structure their entire news department, they will fail to make any headway.

Submitted by gruyere cheese on Sat, 01/22/2011 - 5:18pm.

Schultzy; slow down dude. Check your q's & p's before you go on the air, specially now that all of you at MessNBC will have a new boss. Bashing M. Bachmann on a daily basis is Chissy's job not yours.

Guess the puppet masters at the White House realized that these progressive liberal talking heads on this network are a liablity, as they get ready for the 2012 election.

I pressume that Larry O, Chrissy and Eddie have already contacted their lawyers, in case of an unplanned separation from MessNBC. Rachel is a "protected class" citizen (he/she/it); therefore, she will stay on for as long as she wishes.

That leaves Mika, Joe & the rest of the clowns that are on that stupid "morning joke" show.

You can't expect the Fargo

Submitted by killa37 on Sat, 01/22/2011 - 5:38pm.

You can't expect the Fargo Fatass (with apologies to all of the normal people in Fargo!!) to know the facts when he opens his big angry mouth. I KNOW NUSSSSSSSSEEEEEEN!!!!

And I'll bet that Bachman delivers her speech a lot more fluidly and naturally than Boy Blunder did - without the teleprompter and the head bobbing and wooden delivery. I'll tell you, I have yet to figure out how this dullard ever got the reputation for being some kind of historic orator!!! He is tedious ON a teleprompter or prepared speech, and torturous when he tries to be 'extemporaneous'.............

No offense taken here about Ed...

Submitted by PrairieSky on Sat, 01/22/2011 - 5:55pm.

I live in North Dakota, although not in Fargo...I'm 4 and a half hours northwest of there...But I can tell you with confidence that Schultz doesn't have a great deal of fans or supporters in the state...North Dakota is generally a very conservative state, although Fargo is the most liberal city, largely because of its proximity to Minnesota, which is right across the river, and because North Dakota State University is located there. Most North Dakotans consider Schultz to be an asinine leftwing loon...He is not a native North Dakotan...He was born in Virginia and came to this state for college, and had a pretty rocky tenure here...He has burned most if not all of his bridges here, and now, thankfully, lives in New York.

I'm figuring that most of you

Submitted by killa37 on Sat, 01/22/2011 - 7:12pm.

I'm figuring that most of you people are straight up. I was on 'the mainland' for a couple of years when I was right outta high school, and I hitchiked around and caught a couple of Trailways and Greyhound buses (the REAL America!!!) to see the country, and I did make it up to the Black Hills for a while - I even got a job at that Game Lodge in the middle of the forest on the way to Mt. Rushmore. I met some cool people, including some Indians (or I guess I'm supposed to call them 'native Americans' now,  saw some buffalo, enjoyed the scenery........but I never got to North Dakota. Of course..........that wasn't during the winter!!!

I gotta say.............Shultz is a piece of work, for lack of a more descriptive word!!!

Simple answer.

Submitted by Ashrak on Sat, 01/22/2011 - 6:12pm.

What makes it "different" is the "progressive fact" that Obama can do no wrong and Democrats can do no wrong while everybody  else can do right if their actions are outside what they are told to do by Obama and Democrats.

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.
