Krauthammer Attacks Media's 'Bogus' Call for Civility: Where Were They When Bush was Being Called Hitler?
Charles Krauthammer on Thursday attacked the media's recent bogus call for civility in politics.
"The worst in uncivil discourse that we have had in the last decade occurred in the Bush years when the President was vilified, attacked, he was demonized, compared to Nazis," he told Chris Wallace on Fox News's "Special Report." "I do not remember the Times or the mainstream media all of a sudden wagging a finger and pulling a chin about the rise of uncivil discourse at the time" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRIS WALLACE, HOST: Charles, The New York Times noted today that most of the provocative and inflammatory language came from the Democrats most likely because they were on the losing side so all they have is rhetoric. Is all of this attention to words sensible?
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Look, I think it's a bogus issue that was concocted, particularly after the Tucson shooting. It's a continuation, what we heard from Cohen and Jackson Lee is a continuation of the liberal hypocrisy on this.
The worst in uncivil discourse that we have had in the last decade occurred in the Bush years when the President was vilified, attacked, he was demonized, compared to Nazis. He was called Hitler. There was an article in the New Republic, a leading liberal magazine, which began, it was by an editor, "I hate George Bush. There I've said it" closed quote.
Howard Dean, a not insignificant Democrat, the former head of the Democratic National Committee, said openly, "I hate Republicans and everything they stand for." That is literally hate speech. I do not remember the Times or the mainstream media all of a sudden wagging a finger and pulling a chin about the rise of uncivil discourse at the time. So I don't take any of this seriously.
There was an attempt by liberals, an obscene attempt to link conservatives with the Tucson shooting through this accusation of civil discourse, and I'm not surprised that uncivil discourse is quite prominent on the Left as we saw today.
Indeed.
The behavior of the media the past two weeks would be laughable if it weren't so serious.
First they immorally tried to pin the Tucson shootings on Sarah Palin, conservative talkers, and the Tea Party.
When the assailant inconveniently didn't fit the template, they moved immediately to calling for politicians and pundits to tone down the rhetoric. However, this plea for civility was only directed at the Right.
As we've continued to see from liberal talkers on television and the radio, as well as the disgraceful comments made on the House floor this week by Democrats Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas and Steve Cohen of Tennessee, there is absolutely no interest on the Left to tone down anything.
This entire episode has been another in a long line of dishonest attempts by the media to demonize and silence conservatives.
Fortunately, it appears the more intelligent part of the nation that has learned over the years not to trust the press isn't buying it.

When liberals either get
Submitted by motherbelt on Fri, 01/21/2011 - 11:19am.
When liberals either get beaten or end up on the wrong side, their tune changes.
Suddenly it's all about getting along, an end to bipartisanship and a return to civility.
Oh, and let's not forget the old "pointing fingers and casting blame are not productive."
It's just plain tacky to bring up things like Noel just cited, or Ed Schultz's rant that Dick Cheney should have his heart out, kicked around like a football and stuffed back in him!
Because, you know, calling attention to liberals' hate speech is so.....uncivil.
Yeah, let's all sit together at the State of the Union Show

It is unprintable what I think about the Republicans agreeing to that.
We didn't elect them to play pattycake with the Dems.

It would be a huge mistake. The people who have just a passing interest in the issues who vote do so in ignorance, and having them sit together furthers the lefts agenda of keeping them uninformed!
If the right goes along, they fall into the trap. What's the line at for? I'll take 50 and the points, thanks, lol!

Bravo to Charles here, he is spot on.
NewsBuster, why no story on the Black Tea party out of Houston?
I honestly don't like the "ethnic" named group bullshit, but in this case some publicity to shove this up the mainstream media backsides, I would be OK with.
These same a-hats MADE up the coffee party and pushed it and plllllllt, nothing.
This is a legit story and should be widespread.
It would be if it was a liberal group, and just like Herman Cain not getting publicity for being an excellent black Republican candidate for President, not unexpected.
Sorry to veer off course...

Can you send me a PM with Mr. Cain's CV? Moreover, can you send a email to whoever's running the RNC in lieu of steele? (I recall that it was some guy of Wisconsin, but this early in the AM, no coffee, and a late night discussion with mr. Daniel have left me a bit offgame)
I admit being disappointed about this sitting together dreck. With the Obamacare repeal vote having went through, I am willing to give Speaker Boehner till 1 march to show some more spine.
After that, I'll keep on fighting the good fight to the end, but ruefully aware that we've been boned... again.

a man who chooses to observe, not through the tinted lens of selective perception and prejudgment, but with a microscope focused on reality. He then expresses his opinion on the meaning of what he has observed. Additionally, he has in his favor, a lack of interest in what others may think of his opinions.
Charles eloquently, succinctly, and definitively exposes the hypocricy of the elite, liberal media's selective attention, selective perception, and selective retention. Which I believe is the topic at hand, not Barack Obama or Sarah Palin.

Wasn't it that unshowered skank, Jeanene Garafalo, who was asked why she didn't protest President Clinton's use of military force? I believe she claimed it wasn't the "chic" thing to do at the time.
Pretty much sums up liberal outrage and why we should ignore all of what they have to say. There's no true belief behind it. Its the reason why facts don't stop them. Their direction in what they say, do, protest, and support, is nothing more than a fad that passes based on who is in office.

Chuckles you have a valid point but unfortunately your stock in conservative circles is still trading down and with me you are out. You are now part of the establishment problem. A recent poll (although a lefty poll) shows trust in Fox news is down. Could it be Chuckee and the rest of the Fox "All-stars" are following the jurassaic media template verbatim, especially during the last few weeks?

Why is his stock down and out with you? Myself, I agree with Krauthammer maybe 90% of the time. Two things I disagree with him about that make me doubt his conservatism and his scruples. First, when he called for the national (notice I didn't write federal) government to set gasoline prices at an arbitrary $3.00/gallon (as if they would price our fuel cheaper than the free market). Secondly, when he besmirched Sarah Palin and Christine Odonnel in the recent election. Was it the latter that concerns you? He and George Will appear to be quite the elitists when it comes to choosing our candidates for us. But (on other issues) when they are right they are right and mop the floor with their liberal counterparts.

I will still like to see any Repub/Conserv on any of the talk shows to challenge any libturd who says that "both sides must tone down the rhetoric".
Challenge the libturd to provide examples of the violent rhetoric from the right.
Almost all the vitriol is coming from the left but the libturds are trying to deflect and indict those on the right with the old "but they do it to!!" bull squat.

Attempting to link Palin and the Tea Party, and by extension, me, to the mass murder in AZ is much worse than the BLM ignoring the Bush/Hitler nonsense.
They hit rock bottom last week, and they will pay a price. (And by "pay a price" I mean millions more people have noticed that they a propagandists and will no longer take them seriously, and their slide toward bankruptcy will accelerate. It isn't to be taken as a threat.)

If we review the bottom paragraph on page 7 of the progressive left's Manual To Screw The American People, we read the following: "If we lose the House to the Republicans in the Fall of 2010, we must immediately make the winners feel guilty by demanding that they become civil and polite. Yell at them to be civil, insult them into civitlity. This will allow we progressives to ramp up our continual attacks on them and the American people. Olbermann, Matthews and Mahar and the MSNBC are all on board with this approach. It's worked before and it will work again. Long live Castro and Chavez!!"
Hard to believe, but there it is, in black and white. ;+}

Nice to see Charles attempting to make a comeback with conservatives. However, I too see a tilting to the left on FOX lately. Even its "conservative" side is trying quite hard to find "good" in Obama and company. Take off the rose -colored glasses guys and girls! The "liberals" don't want "civility" or "compromise". They are nuts, crazy, wacko---but shrewd--- and they "hate" you for simply disagreeing with them. Obama himself has called you the "enemy". When will you get it? The "libs" laugh up their sleeves when they see you getting tangled in their web of deceit. Puleeeze, always remember:

Calls for Civility?
Submitted by Mike009 on Sat, 01/22/2011 - 3:12pm.
Eight years of violent rhetoric directed at George W. Bush didn’t bother Democrats and liberal pundits at all. So this sudden concern over “inflammatory rhetoric” is touching. But pinning tragedies on conservatives is not new.
After President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, liberals tried to blame the “atmosphere of hate and right wing racism” in Dallas over Kennedy’s civil rights stance. The assassin was a Commie sympathizer. President Bill Clinton tried to blame talk radio and Rush Limbaugh for inciting the Oklahoma City bombing. The bomber was motivated by the Justice Department’s actions at the Branch Davidian compound and the FBI shootings at Ruby Ridge. New York City Mayor Bloomberg blamed the Times Square car bombing attempt on right wingers upset over Obama’s health care bill. The actual bomber was a Muslim terrorist. And before the Arizona shooter was identified, the shooting was blamed – falsely – on conservatives.
This is a distinct pattern of behavior and it is not a coincidence. The end game here is censorship of conservatives, plain and simple.
