Mission Accomplished: Palin Bashing Reaches New High As Does Her Unfavorable Rating

By Noel Sheppard | January 20, 2011 | 12:08

A  A
Noel Sheppard's picture

After days of relentless attacks by media across the fruited plain, Sarah Palin's unfavorable rating hit an all-time high this week.

A look at the assault by television and radio news organizations since bullets were fired in Tucson will give you an idea how the press accomplished their mission (image of Palin was found via a Google search and was not created by NewsBusters or the Media Research Center):

From January 8 through January 16, CNN ran 80 stories that included the name of the former Alaska governor.

That's roughly nine pieces per day, during which her name was mentioned approximately 664 times or over 70 times every 24 hours!

As few if any of these mentions were positive, is there any wonder a new CNN/Opinion Research poll found 56 percent of all Americans now have an unfavorable view of Sarah Palin - an all-time high?

As CNN noted, that's up seven points from just before the midterm elections.

Of course, the supposedly most trusted name in news wasn't the only outlet mercilessly pounding Palin.

During the same time period (chosen to coincide with CNN's polling period ending January 16), MSNBC ran 25 reports on Palin mentioning her name a staggering 474 times during those segments.

Those figures are even more astounding when you consider that MSNBC only transcribes weekday prime time programs. Just imagine the kind of pounding Palin was taking from these shills during the weekends and outside of prime time.

MSNBC's sister network NBC also was involved in the attacks logging 23 reports with 126 mentions of Palin.

NPR did 20 stories with 100 mentions; ABC 17 and 62; CBS 14 and 59.

Add it all up, and these outlets did 179 reports about Palin in those sixteen days (remember - this only includes weekday primetime for MSNBC!) mentioning her name a staggering 1485 times.

With her unfavorable rating now at 56 percent, I guess these so-called "news" outlets should all be saying "Mission Accomplished!"

Readers are advised the above figures are unaudited estimates taken from LexisNexis transcripts. Readers are also advised the image of Palin above was found via a Google search and was not created by NewsBusters or the Media Research Center.

Until 2007 The United States had a booming economy.

Submitted by Willis_Leon_Johnson on Thu, 01/20/2011 - 1:24pm.

Why! Some might even say we had a THRIVING economy.

In November of the year before, due entirely to big spending 'republicans' the voters through them out of gave control to the democrats.

By the end of 2007, the good days were all behind us with nothing to look forward to but emptiness and despair that was, and still is, being pedaled by the democrats.

It's a lot like a 'self fulling prophesy', elect RINOS and democrats and watch the economy drop like a bomb that explodes in peoples lives destroying everything they have worked for.

Elect CONSERVATIVE and watch the American People and OUR economy come roaring back to life.

Too bad that we still have so many RINOS still pretending to be "Republicans" and still following their own mantra of "You Conservatives just sit down and shut up because we're a lot smarter then you."

A statement that seems to ring true because that type of garbage keeps getting re-elected.

Isn't that right mr. boehner?

Unfavorable?

Submitted by iveseenitall on Thu, 01/20/2011 - 12:27pm.

And,even if you believe it, what does this "unfavorable" rating mean. Do some people not want her to run for president? Do some people wish that she says things differently? Do some people want someone else in the Republican Party to run for president? There are a million reasons for this bogus "unfavorable" rating. But, of course, the lefties want us to believe their slanderous lies about her and "hate" her as much as they do. These "jounalists" are crazy mad over Sarah. They are obsessed with their hatred of her. And for what? Dirty, disgusting, biased little people. Intellectual pigmies who should be gossiping over a backyard fence, not reporting for national "news" organizations.

Yes, they are terrified of her. I believe that most of all they are afraid of her honesty. Show a closed-minded "liberal" where he is wrong--- face an ignorant "progressive" with the truth--- or simply disagree with his agenda and he goes ballistic. "Liberals" hold a grudge forever and will try to do you in whenever and wherever possible. They can never look themselves in the mirror for fear of what they will see and they blame you for holding that mirror up to them. In the end, they loathe themselves and this, I think, is the root of their vicious behavior.

Liberals only listen to pollsters when the results fit their agenda.  Before you believe in a poll results you have to see how the question was phrased and where the poll was conducted.  This could have been done on the left coast for all we know.  Heck, Jimmy Carter would look good if a poll was conducted by the Clinton News Network!  The media didn't like to see Palin fighting back the lies and liable rhetoric they spewed.  I say good for her.  She won't just shut up and sit down like they demanded!

MSM is Trying to Kill Reagan II in the Crib

Submitted by andrew - des moines on Thu, 01/20/2011 - 1:59pm.

When the MSM looks at Palin, they see the potential for another Reagan-like political figure from the right: proudly conservative - but not extreme, a great communicator with the people - but not through them.

It is vitally important that all conservatives support Palin.  If we let the MSM destroy her, this will only reinforce the use of their tactics and any true transformational leader that emerges in the coming years will be targeted in the same manor.

Remember as well, campaign money largely goes to advertisements - 30 seconds slots of time devoted to persuasion of the masses.  How much advertising time and dollars is all the Palin bashing equivalent to?

The media wanted McCain to

Submitted by midnight cowboy on Thu, 01/20/2011 - 2:50pm.

The media wanted McCain to get the nomination in 2000 as well as 2008. So in the 2000 primaries the media did tons of puff pieces with him to the extent he called the media his base. They did the same thing in 2008. By extension of reason if the media and the left really wanted Palin to be the nominee for the republicans, why the turn around in tacticts? Wht not the softball interviews, glowing stories on the Palin family, or the successes of her executive accomplishments.

There's only 1 answer. Palin is not controlled by anyone, no -one pulling her strings and this is why thear fear and loathe her. In Alaska,Sarah was like a tornado going through the state that littered the landscape with the rhetorical corpses of  corrupt politicians, cronies, hacks, contractor-politician kickbacks, and back room dealers. The establishment of both parties as well as the media  will fight tooth and nail not to put an end to their politcally corrupt gravy train.

So what

Submitted by robert_a_hahn on Thu, 01/20/2011 - 3:22pm.

Does this matter? If the ability of the media to move polls of "all adults" were as strong as their ability to move voters, the Democrats would never lose. But the Democrats do lose, and often badly. From this we can conclude that a large number of the people who are blown this way and that by the legacy media do not vote. They are the people who don't pay much attention to politics and whose knowledge of current events is pretty much limited to the broad, loud themes that the media is promulgating. Fortunately for the country, a lot of these people never show up to vote.

In the event that Sarah Palin actually becomes a serious candidate (I frankly doubt she will because after the "partial-one-term Senator who became president," the country will be looking for someone who goes beyond being a Real Good Talker) most of the folks who intend to vote will dig a bit deeper than they would two years out from the election. At that point lies from the media will be less effective than they seem to be now.

It's all about profit

Submitted by lower_48_facebook on Thu, 01/20/2011 - 3:42pm.

What I think everyone misses about The Palin Massacre is that anyone that writes a story about her sees a web hit, increases their circulation, and scores a profit.

This centerpiece of our capitalist culture must always be respected.  Everyone these days wants Palin in their stories because she is among the top web searches and drives hits.

Why is that?  Because most of us rubberneck at a trainwreck.  We just cannot help ourselves.  Lets put it another way, if Palin had Madeline Albright's head on her, would we be even talking about her?   I think not.

So, she makes money, they make money, and we get inundated with Palin nonsense.  Everyone seems to be profiting from her, including her, except for us the paying public.

If we want to see Palin go away, turn off the TV for a month, stop surfing to websites that have her name, stop googling for her.  She will disappear overnight.

Its all about profit folks as it always is.  We feed this profit machine and we can easily shut it down too.

Joan Rivers was to appear on "Fox and Friends" today, but her appearance was canceled. Rivers tweeted that the reason she was canceled was due to the comments that she made about Sarah Palin that were picked up and shown on a TMZ Video.

As expected from a Hollywood liberal, Rivers on the video has nothing but vile things to say about Sarah Palin, including suggesting that Palin go to another planet, and saying that the media was right to blame Sarah Palin for the shootings in Tucson. "This woman is just stupid and a threat", said Rivers.

Joan Rivers affirmed her cancellation in an interview today on CNN's The Joy Behar Show.  Here is the VIDEO of the Behar interview Joan Rivers: "I'm banned from Fox"

The Daily Caller reports that "Rivers wasn’t canceled for criticizing Palin" “Due to the volume of news topics tomorrow morning and a full show, our booker mistakenly canceled Joan’s appearance instead of re-scheduling her for Friday’s show,” Lauren Petterson, executive producer for “Fox and Friends,” told TheWrap in a statement. “We’re in the process of booking her on an upcoming show.”

Joan Rivers needs to retire.

Submitted by drsamherman on Thu, 01/20/2011 - 10:56pm.

So many patients in the entertainment field that I have treated over the years have had such desperate attention-seeking borderline personality disorders (histrionic to narcissistic subtypes) over the years, that I lost count.  Joan Rivers needs to retire quietly.  Perhaps someone needs to broach the subject with her more discreetly?

Histrionic narcissists are alway better served by shutting up. There's a reason why Sarah's tanking with voters.

Oh please Evan. Either get your definations right and know what you are saying, or, at the very least, do your research and on what Sarah has said.

I don't know even what the word defination means, and that should tell you something, bass.

I don't profess to be much of a campaign adviser either, but I'd change something if I were her.

But I'm not her. Keep on keepin' on, Sarah. You're doing great.

so let's see

Submitted by Hoosier Conservative on Fri, 01/21/2011 - 3:55pm.

On the day of the shooting, Sarah published a short facebook note expressing her sympathies and saying it was a terrible act. For days following, she is silent as the left accuses her of being an accessory to murder. After letting them vent their accusations, she publishes a short video defending herself and then does one simple interview on Fox.

And your solution is to call her a histrionic narcissist.

I suspect if you were her campaign advisor, you would advise her to change one simple thing: become a liberal.

Because being a liberal means never having to say your're sorry for anything. Just ask Ed Schultz.

I suspect a perception of histrionic narcissism was the reason so many were turned off by Sarah's video. But maybe it was something else.

So, in your view Evan, where was the histrionic narcissism Sarah demonstrated?

Oh, and it  is definition, and you know what I meant. Unless you wish to spelling and grammer police out in force every post you make, don't act so ignorant. And again, you need to brush up on your difinitions.

Intelligent people understand the occasional typo.

Apparently liberals cannot fathom such a deep subject due to the shallowness of their minds.

That "mission accomplished, Sarah Palin" was the bigger reason so many were turned off.

I notice you totally dodged my main point. Do you prefer people who are liberals, or not?

He's a liberal Hoosier. No question. I also belive he just learned his phrase " histrionic narcissism". I bet he read it somewhere and thought it sounded cool and smart. Got it off some liberal blog or something somewhere.

I have seen it used before, but it is rather stupid to use this phrase for a video that Sarah did.

Yeah—Sarah's up to 58% unfavorable in AK now. Must be all that liberal media they watch up there.

This conversation makes me think of the fuss Republicons made about Gore not winning his own state (he was unlikely ever to be elected there in the first place).

And some silly political experts say a candidate can't win with over 50% unfavorable.
