Media Parrot Obama's Claim of 'Most Productive' Congress in Generations

As Barack Obama took his legislative victory lap Tuesday, he boldly claimed this was "the most productive postelection period we've had in decades" and "the most productive two years that we've had in generations."

Not caring what "productive" means, media across the country dutifully parroted the President as the following video created by the folks at Breitbart TV marvelously demonstrates (video follows with commentary):

To give readers an idea just how parroted this concept was, a Google News search of "most productive Congress" yields over one thousand results.

Yet how does one define "productive?"

According to Dictionary.com, as it pertains to economics for example, productive means "producing or tending to produce goods and services having exchange value."

I reference an economics term because for most Americans after 2008's economic collapse, the most important issue facing the new president was solving a rising unemployment problem.

Has that occurred in the past two years?

Hardly, as Obama was sworn in with the unemployment rate at 7.4 percent and 11.4 million Americans out of work.

Today, as the President and his fellow Democrats pat themselves on the back - with the assistance of the media, of course! - unemployment stands at 9.8 percent with 15.1 million people jobless.

Is this really what so-called journalists see as "productive?"

That's kind of like grading a batter by how many times he's at the plate or how many pitches he sees rather than by his hits, average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, RBIs, and number of home runs.

But such analysis isn't important to today's media when reviewing the "accomplishments" of Democrats and the current White House resident.

Would the same be true if Republicans controlled everything the past two years?

Just imagine if Bush was president, John Boehner was House Speaker, and Mitch McConnell was Senate Majority Leader. If the exact same number of bills was passed with unemployment having risen as much during the same period, would the press be giving Republicans a standing ovation?

Hardly.

Encouraged and emboldened (like that one?) by Krautie, they can't get enough of saying what a genius thing this has been. How brilliantly, we gave away nukes. What a stroke of creativity--add a ton of weird studies to the govt's pay list, get rid of DADT, sort of, except for the buzzkill generals, gosh, everything but let irregularly-papered kids get a great education and citizenship if they enroll in Jr College. Now, the Russians are even sort of slowing on their end of the ratification--but hey, don't worry--the man's a stone genius! Oh, well, we get a break while he gets in some more golf.

Submitted by ricklail on Fri, 12/24/2010 - 12:15pm.

If the Ruskies are not happy with some of the resoultions the Senate tacked on will it have to come back and be ratified again? I don't think it will make it through the new Senate.

The braying donkeys in the media and the lefty political class are all singing the very same tune, using same words with the same toothy grin when they sing these praises of the 111th Congress and the Emperor of Waffles. Apparently, the agitprop JournOlist media racketeers are alive and well.

No more professional

Submitted by celator on Fri, 12/24/2010 - 12:33pm.

No more professional politicians. Term Limits for all, even the Dog Catcher!

The US Congress should gather for about 20 minutes on the first day of each session. They can get all their backslapping and bragging done in that time. After 20 minutes, the security guards should come in, handcuff each Senator and Representative and escort them off premises. Congress should then be adjourned for another year, when they can meet for 20 minutes again.

Still slightly off

Submitted by jon_torlin on Fri, 12/24/2010 - 1:15pm.

You're about halfway there.

It's "Most Destructive Congress EVER!"

No Congress has ever done anything like this one has in the last two years, you could combine the previous 110 Congresses and it wouldn't match up with what this one has done.

The 111th Congress has revealed far more eloquently than ever who the traitors to the Constitution and to the Country were.

The 112th has a very tough road ahead of them and I don't even see HOW it's even remotely possible for the country to recover.   In the mean time, we still have the National Socialists in charge of the Senate albeit somewhat weakened, and we still have the bogus potus who needs to be impeached for his actions.

God help us.

Accomplishments??

Submitted by iveseenitall on Fri, 12/24/2010 - 1:04pm.

Gays get their "rights" in the military -yes

The "dream" almost comes true for illegals -yes

Taxes are NOT cut -yes

The debt and deficit rise-yes

The few get their "due"-yes

Obama becomes "The Comeback Kid" for his pals ( including Fox)  in the MSM

Meanwhile:

Our southern border is a murderous, drug infested mess

Our debt and deficits have risen

Taxes will rise monumentally in two years

The Afghan "war" drones on with no defined purpose or end in sight

Our educational system is in the sewer

Issues such as tort reform and tax reform aren't even discussed

The "healthcare" debacle looms

Millions of Americans search for work

On and on it goes---But both the left and the right in Congress and the media celebrate the "accomplishments" with gusto!

Hey, don't look behind that curtain Charles, Brian, Barry and the rest of you. WE THE PEOPLE are there and we are not as happy as you "elites". No matter how hard you try, you can't ignore the last election.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal" (progressive)

When doctors ask you about a cough, they ask if it was "productive".  When a disease spreads throughout your body, the doctors say it is "progressing".

Submitted by TerryWest on Fri, 12/24/2010 - 8:57pm.

The lame duck session was the most self serving voter driven panic seen sense the gold rush.   We have the media in full chorus claiming all is well in the kingdom, the peasants are eating cake and enjoying a brisk recovery all in a month's time, it's a Christmas miracle!    It is also being parroted that consumers have spent more this year ( 3%) then in years past, I have to ask if this isnt due to increased price's this year and the lack of deals as in years past (in spite of what the parrots repeated about those imaginary "deals" they were far and few) but food as well, I know we didnt buy anymore this year for Christmas gifts or dinner but we sure paid more for the same amount.

American Exceptionalism Causing Liberal Breakdowns

Submitted by Retired Geek on Fri, 12/24/2010 - 4:07pm.

Folks we have 758 Days left until Barack Obama is voted out of office and a NEW President is sworn in as President.

We cannot stop being vigilant or grow weary, because this Administration will never tire or cease trying to destroy America or Freedom.

America is the most 'Exceptional Nation' in the History of mankind and Barack Obama and his Liberal Progressive 'Cabal' of America haters will stop at Nothing in their attempt to destroy this Great Nation.

The Liberal Progressive hatred and intolerance becomes more visible at Christmas and on the 4th of July, because these two Days are the most depressing and hate filled Days of the Year for those dedicated to the destruction of our Liberty and Freedom.

The Birth of the Great Emancipator and the Birth of this Exceptional Nation that is based on His Message - Jesus Christ.
