Kurtz Seems to Condone Schultz Calling Limbaugh 'Drugster,' Palin 'Caribou Barbie' and Christie 'Fat Slob'

By Noel Sheppard | December 21, 2010 | 20:21

Howard Kurtz on Tuesday published a surprisingly glowing piece about one of the most hate-filled commentators on television.

In "Rush Limbaugh's TV Nemesis" posted at the Daily Beast, Kurtz even seemed to condone Ed Schultz's disgusting pet names for Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, and Chris Christie:

He savages his targets in a nightly “Psycho Talk” segment, calling Rush Limbaugh “the drugster,” Sarah Palin “Caribou Barbie,” and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie a “fat slob.” Rather than merely attack their ideology, Schultz says things like: “C'mon, Rush! Let's get it on!... Get away from your drugs. Go see the doctor and get some hearing. Maybe you could pick up a 19th girlfriend. Maybe you could try marriage again.” He has even said Limbaugh looks like Hitler.

One might have expected as a media critic, Kurtz would come down strongly on a television news commentator attacking fellow Americans this way, especially political officials.

Not so, as here's what immediately followed:

Turns out the Rush grudge is personal. After the Today show did a story on him in 2004, Schultz recalls Limbaugh dismissing him as a $4-an-hour Fargo guy who would never make it. But in constantly carping on Limbaugh’s past addiction to painkillers, Schultz can sound as intolerant as any opponent.

That's it? He can sound as intolerant as any opponent?

Talking about a man's past addiction to painkillers, his hearing problem, his love life, and comparing him to Hitler goes far beyond intolerance.

And what about Schultz's references to Palin and Christie? Didn't those deserve some of Kurtz's attention?

I guess Howard wasn't bothered by that. Quite the contrary, he allowed Schultz to get the last word:

One thing is certain: The hunter remains loaded for bear. “Not to get too grandiose about it,” he tells me after demolishing dinner, “but I really believe I’m saying things a lot of Americans want someone to say.”

Does Kurtz think a lot of Americans want commentators on cable news networks to routinely refer to Limbaugh's previous drug addiction, or demean former and current political figures with idiotic nicknames?

If he doesn't, maybe he should have offered some criticism concerning this childish behavior from a TV news commentator rather than giving him the last word thereby implying he either agreed with Schultz or really wasn't offended by such invective.

All in all, this was an extremely weak piece from Kurtz that he should be quite ashamed of.

I dive for the remote after Matthews, but sometimes I can't find it (my children lose it, hide it......) and I have watched nothing but hate from this fat bastard.

The left say that Hannity is one way, nope, not EVEN close as far as hate and at least Hannity has a panel where all voices can be heard.

When fatboy disagrees with someone, they are not welcomed back, their mike get's cut and they become "the worst person in the world" eventually.

I noticed the attacks have started again on Limbaugh. The Left had backed off him for a bit, focusing on Beck and Palin instead. But now with Sharpton, Van Jones and Soros all hammering the FCC to get Limbaugh censored, he's front and center again. Let's all do our part to demand the new Congress DEFUND the FCC. Oh, and don't forget to demand the CPB get defunded too.

All your apologizing for, sticking up for, explaining for, cleaning up after and siding with, liberals and Democrats, aside, since that is not only your right but your apparent avowed mission in life---

I neither care overly much for, nor pay much attention to, the one-note tune you continuously play on your liberal Democratic harmonica.

Your desire to be a factotum, a forever fervent fan of and  flag-bearer for political weasels and people I thoroughly despise just confirms on a daily basis how much I appreciate having you around to dispense such blatant silliness as though you actually think I might be either impressed, moved, or converted by it.

What you attempt to pass on as truth carved in concrete, I see as partisan bullsh*t.

You say I am obviously unaware of the respect for Daschle on both sides of the aisle.

Are you kidding me?

That is like saying rattlesnakes respect the potential danger represented by the venom carried by another rattlesnake.

That weasels are attracted to the musky, but oh so heady scent of the rest of their species.

That polecats respect one another because no one outside their group thinks they are worth either cultivating as friends or looking up to.

Tom Daschle having the respect of other politicians doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot to me other than underlining the phrase "birds of a feather flock together."

Daschle is a despicable, lying, tax cheat, like, unfortunately, so many of his ex-brethren.

Just how many character letters bespeaking Daschle's nomination for sainthood do you actually have in your possession, Jer?

Or was your post just another example of spraying perfume to mask a stench?

A pathetic tale

Submitted by KC Mulville on Wed, 12/22/2010 - 2:47am.

According to the piece, Schultz was a jock conservative, until the first time he met poor people. Then he became a liberal.

I mean, how stupid can you get?

Did he not know about poor people? What did he think conservatism was all about? What did he think Reagan was talking about? The whole point of conservatism is that when government spends your money instead of you, they don't spend it on you.

Liberalism isn't a cure for poverty. What do you think makes those people poor? Is it some sort of personal defect that they have? Is it because poor people are morally bankrupt? No. Most of the time, it has little to do with the workers themselves. They're poor because there aren't enough jobs. And the only people who can create long-term, steady, well-paying jobs are people who have money and are willing to invest it. That's where the jobs come from.

Yeah, I know it sucks that a bunch of rich fat-cats have money and they're no better than you or me. But that's the way it is, so suck it up.

The only way to generate jobs is to give them a place to spend that money. And if it means that they make four bucks for every two you make, well, it's better than neither one of you making a dime. But if you want to wallow in the "egalitarianism" of liberalism, spiting those rich folks by not letting them have more money (and forcing everyone's money to go to the government), then kiss liberalism hello and your freedom goodbye. Great. You're showing your compassion at the expense of your brains.

He was a conservative until he met a liberal and she introduced him to poor people. How pathetic is that?

In the simplest of terms, Liberal Progressives needs a constant NEW supply of 'Victims' to replenish those that  become middle class.

IOW, Barack Obama and his Liberal Progressive Supporters are trapped in a 'Dialectical Conundrum' or the struggle of the opposites.

While their 'Victims' struggle with the paralyzing oppression brought on by Liberal Progressive policies, they must create NEW victims for fuel to keep their policies relevant.

The 'Barack Obama Perfect Government' is about rewarding incompetence and punishing success, for the successful can't be successful unless the failures fail, hence Barack Obama must increase the failures for equilibrium

Barack Obama and Liberal Progressives know that increasing  'failure will be the success' of his Administration and Policies.

Eddie Schultz is a Yutz, for sure

Submitted by bsny on Wed, 12/22/2010 - 9:33am.

But I'm sure there are no complaints in these parts when Mark Levin calls Hillary her thighness or a sitting sentator Little Dick.

Lets face it, there's nothing more ironic than having a the ultimate uber-conservative like Rush be on his fourth marriage and have a drug addiction.

Hypocrisy: Schultz leads by

Submitted by Beukeboom on Wed, 12/22/2010 - 10:53am.

Hypocrisy: Schultz leads by example.

Schultz still is an inconsequential Fargo guy who still hasn't "made it" (lowered expectations?)...he's just making a bit more that $4 per.
