Kathy Griffin Calls Bristol Palin Fat at USO Salute to Troops

By Noel Sheppard | December 05, 2010 | 21:55

Noel Sheppard's picture

Vulgarian Kathy Griffin on Friday called Bristol Palin fat during her opening monologue of the USO's Divas Salute to the Troops.

"She's the only contestant in the history of ["Dancing with the Stars"] to actually gain weight," said Griffin. "She's like the white Precious" (video follows courtesy MTV.com with commentary):

For those not getting the so-called "joke," "Precious" is the Academy Award-winning 2009 film about an obese, illiterate, sexually abused, black, sixteen-year-old girl from Harlem.

Nice reference for a political figure's daughter, wouldn't you agree?

Makes you seriously question why the USO and VH1 would consider letting this disgraceful woman host the show airing at 9PM Sunday evening.

Compounding matters, Radar Online reported Saturday that at one point, Griffin came on stage in a camouflage bikini. Yes, that's the kind of respect our troops want to be shown.

On a more positive note, guest performers according to Military.com included Katy Perry, Sugarland, Keri Hilson, Nicki Minaj, Paramore, and Grace Potter & The Nocturnals.

Hopefully our military members in attendance at Miramar's Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego, and watching all over the world, enjoyed the event despite Griffin's involvement.

I’m amazed any time I hear about Griffin working. Remember this is the woman who was fired by CNN from their new years show because she couldn’t control her foul mouth. Now she’s working for the USO, she must have a really, really good agent.

Although I am a Liberal, I have to say this was badly done by Ms. Griffin.  I believe the young Ms. Palin is still a teenager.  Far too often young women have been pressured by media outlets to look a certain way.  This of course leads to eating disorders.  I cannot imagine the stress that young Ms. Palin is going through to look perfect.

I do take umbrage with this line though:

“Compounding matters, Radar Online reported Saturday that at one point, Griffin came on stage in a camouflage bikini. Yes, that's the kind of respect our troops want to be shown.”

And of course, what to have for dessert.  And of course, on the way back...more talk about food.

That's my answer for it.  Or maybe that I watched a bit of Food Network today, and want to try out Tyler's Cheese Cake.  Or that B'ster bought me a new Cuisinart Immersion Blender (w/ a gazillion attachments)....I'm having fun with it, too!  Highly recommend.

I would point out to you that Palin isn't "slaughtering animals for sport"....she has a large family and actually feeds them with the fish and game.

There are people all over the world who do this, you know.  Hunt their food.  It's not a novel concept...in fact, it's been occuring since the beginning of the human race.

The Pic'n'Pay is a relatively novel concept, Henry.

Hunters kill for kicks

Submitted by Henry Clay on Sun, 12/05/2010 - 11:40pm.

Most areas of the world, beside the civilized parts, do not have local grocers… so most are forced to hunt.  Keyword there little lady is forced.  Secondly, to say that she is feeding her family is outrageous.  She will not spend $20 on a couple of steaks but she has no problem spending $250,000 on clothing!  Give me a break.

Poor Henry, for such a high-brow, you sure are slow

Submitted by Blonde on Sun, 12/05/2010 - 11:49pm.

There are many areas of the "civilized" world where hunting and fishing and trapping are a large part of the local culture.  Wherein the object of ones pursuit is a tasty treat on one's dinner table.   Hint:  Everywhere.

Tell you what, Henry.  No more seafood for you.  Because you are too appalled at clubbing the fish.

No more swordfish, particularly.  Do you know how commercial swordfish is caught?  They long line them.  The bycatch is horrific.  By-catch, you know, where they catch unintended species and then just pitch them back, dead.  Or, if they get the stray shark, fin it (that means cut it's fins off) and toss it back into the ocean to die a slow death.

No more lobster, no more crabs (particularly not Alaska Kings, nor Opelio, aka Snow Crabs)....because these creatures, if not quickly retreived, cannibalize each other in the traps.  No more shrimp, the by-catch for net caught shrimp is 10x the intentioned catch.

Just because you can buy your meat at the Safeway, doesn't mean it wasn't once a living, breathing creature.  Just because you're too big of a wimp to do the deed yourself, I think you need to confine yourself to making only vegatables scream.  Elsewise, you'd be a hypocrite.

This "bayoubug" will have to rethink the hunting trip hubby and I have planned to bag geese for the winter or the trip to the Attchafalaya basin to catch a few sacks of crawfish.

I could order a veggie pizza to be delivered but, oh wait, they wont deliver 35 miles away.

Maybe I should change my screen name to "cave woman" except there aint no caves in south La.

Guess I will need Hank Mud to tell me where to live, how to live, what to eat, how much to pay for it, what kinda car to drive. Hank sounds like every liberal elitist snob who wants to tell all us ignorant rednecks how to live 'cause we be so primitive.

As for the crawfish, you go girlfriend!  There's nothing better than fresh caught shellfish, whether it's the legged or hinged kinds.  It's all delicious.

Are you a psychologist Henry?  Do people who have a role to play at work come home and behave the exact same way?  My husband is a business owner and the boss at work.  When he comes we are partners, he takes on a different role.

As I said there is a difference between being an overbearing mother who tries to control ever aspect of her child's life, than being a person who has goals for herself.  Do you think of male politicians as overbearing fathers?  Would you characterize JFK as an overbearing father?

Are you a vegan Henry?  Because if not you are a hypocrite.  Where do you think your meat comes from?  I would suppose that because she hunts her own food she probably has more respect for the food and nature than those of us who buy our food nicely prepackaged at the store, where we don't have to think to much about how it got there.

I'd rather eat one of Palin's Caribou burgers than a hamburger from TGI Friday's, or any other commercial establishment, for that very reason.

I've become less picky as I get older, but there was a point in time where I wouldn't eat any seafood I didn't catch.  Because I could be assured that with my own catch, it was properly iced when caught, properly fileted, packaged properly (and frozen properly if a large catch) and cooked within a proper time frame.  I'm sure Palin is exactly as careful in regard to what her family hunts and catches.

There are so many points I respectfully disagree with.  First of all, your husband probably does not have an ego so large that he thinks he can be the most powerful person in the world.  Whereas, Mrs. Palin’s ego is so large it could fill up a highway all by itself.

Secondly, hunters and anglers have no respect for food or nature. They litter, destroy precious eco-systems, and enjoy killing for sport.  Give me the American farmer any day! Yes, that weather beaten man on a green tractor nourishing his crops and cattle!  The backbone of America I say!  Now if you want to talk about people who respect nature… It is the American farmer not the hunter!

That is just plain funny

Submitted by Denny Crane on Mon, 12/06/2010 - 12:49am.

What a great non-study!

An exerpt

Most deer, for example, would not perceive a rifle hunter as a predator or a source of danger from the distance at
which deer can be shot with a big game rifle (about 200 feet to 400 yards depending on the terrain). A wolf at that
distance, even though detected, would be totally ignored. Even the much smaller range of bow-hunter (about 50-75
feet) is barely of concern to deer. Deer may start to keep an eye on a hunter at that distance, but the evasion instinct
doesn’t kick in until it's too late.

Absolut BS.

This was even funnier!

Hunting by humans has never been akin to natural predation. Using modern technology makes matters worse, but
even hunting by indigenous people, before the blessings of Western civilization were bestowed on them, was just as
destructive only at a slower rate. The North American mammoth, the Patagonian giant sloth, the pygmy
hippopotamus, the elephant bird of Madagascar are just some examples of animals that were hunted into extinction by
indigenous hunters.

Those EEEEVVVIIILLLL CAVEMEN killed off the Mammoth!  Because they always went after the BIG STRONG ONES for sport!!!!

Try again 19 year old.

Obviously you do not read Matt Ridley.  In his book, The Origins of Virtue he lays out the argument that native people have caused more destruction to the environment and species than Western man could ever accomplish.  This is mainly due to there hunting practices.  You see his argument was that the domestication of animals to raise for food was one of the most important leaps in mankind’s evolution.  Apparently, some on this site what to go back to the good old days of hunting and gathering and forget about what our ancestors gave to us.

Henry, that is the biggest pile of bovine scatology that has...

Submitted by Dave. on Mon, 12/06/2010 - 2:42am.

...dumped in here in quite a while.

I come from a large family of hunters - particularly deer hunters, and that goes all the way back to when my family first turned up here in America. Back then, if you weren't able or willing to hunt, you were probably not going to be around for very long.

There were no restaurants back then, and stores were few and very far between.

Every last one of the hunters in my family preserves the meat of the animals they take. They have all spent some seriously big money buying high-end freezers, along with all the other stuff required, in order to do so, and do so safely.

Nothing is wasted. Nothing. What meat they don't need is donated, and a lot of hunters in my state do that.

I can't speak for the rest of the country, but most all hunters around here are some of the most ecologically aware and conservationist-inclined people you will ever meet. Yes, there are exceptions. There always are. That's what game wardens are for.

Most hunters I know will very quickly report anything they see someone doing illegally - such as poaching (in whatever context), taking an animal that is too young, or a female in days that it is prohibited, or whatever.

I have two cousins who are strictly bow hunters.

If you were to outlaw deer hunting, you would, in very short order, have a major overpopulation problem on your hands.

That means starving and malnourished deer, and that means diseases - diseases that could kill a large portion of the deer population if something is not done to correct the problem.

We have had deer overpopulation issues here in the past, and the remedy is usually extending the season, upping the bag limits, or whatever it takes to thin the herd.

BTW: If you can't cook venison without getting rid of the gamy taste, then you don't know how to do it.

Hunted deer year round, at night with a spotlight, but i et what i killed and was gratefull for it What i'm looking forward to nowdays is when we declare open season on libturds like you Henri, i exspect to bag my share, not for consumption, but to conserv and preserve the environment. Besides the buzzards got to eat too.   (grins) kilrod .

You are what you eat...

Submitted by Henry Clay on Mon, 12/06/2010 - 12:55am.

I do not understand your post.  As for venison, only Philistines with unrefined palettes enjoy that gamey taste.  As for eating moose and caribou I find it disgusting.  Seriously, there are certain things that one should refrain from putting into one’s body.  I once saw Mrs. Palin make moose chili, I literally got physically sick.  She looks like a wretched cook.  I bet she eats raccoon and groundhog too.  As for her killing and gutting the caribou this was on tonight’s episode of Sarah Palin’s Alaska.

Sorry, Henry, your faux Lord Fauntleroy is fading fast

Here's a ten year old article about venison as an emergent "hot" cooking trend.  Ten years.

So sorry, you lose this food argument as well.

You should know, I'm a major foodie.  You'd be advised to fold your tent, you and Dennis and your brocolli "rob"!

Freaking Medieval Lords ate venison!!  The also ate mice though.  I do not care what any article says, venison is disgusting there is no good way to cook it or eat it.  It is simply a disgusting food.  It is also hip with “foodies” to eat rabbit.  A rabbit is a rodent.  Please, I know so many “foodies” and they are the most annoying bunch of people on the earth.  The goal of all “foodies” is to come up with the strangest dishes known to man and then ridicule those who refuse to eat the reproductive organs of a goat as not being opened minded.

And please tell me…when you go to a restaurant you don’t take pictures of the food do you?

Not True

Submitted by Blonde on Mon, 12/06/2010 - 1:49am.

Some of the best chefs in the country, and around the world, regularly serve venison.

Just because you have a juvenile palette, and a nonsensical liberal ethos regarding hunting, is no reason to poo-poo that which you don't understand.

And actually, yes, sometimes I do take pictures of our meals.  For instance, on my travels, absolutely.  I even blog it!

You, however, should stick to steroid injected beef and processed food.

I'll take mine the way the Good Lord put it on the planet, thank you.

P.S.  Goat meat is delicious....Mama Lo's Soul Food in Gainesville has barbequed goat ribs (w/collards) that are to die for.  Being a "foodie" means having an open mind to all sorts of cuisines, without prejudgement, unlike certain liberals I could name.

Thanks, I missed that!

Problem with eating rabbit, you have to be careful of all the buckshot that might still be in the meat.  At least with venison, you don't have to worry about the bullet!

So, the USO doesn't have any standards anymore?

Submitted by Phryj1 on Sun, 12/05/2010 - 10:36pm.

They're letting this shrill, vile, obnoxious harpy "entertain" the troops?  Is the USO really that desperate that they'll let anyone who volunteers join? And do any of our soldiers actually want to see this woman, or are they being punished for something?

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

I love the way Bristol Palin

Submitted by mostlymoderate on Sun, 12/05/2010 - 11:11pm.

I love the way Bristol Palin looks.  It's a "cute" pudginess, not a "fat" pudginess.  Looks good on young women like Bristol.

As for Griffin, she is a wretched excuse of a woman.  Talk about a woman that would do ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING, to get some free press. This vile mistake for a human being only feels good about herself when she steps all over someone else.  We all know the type.

Did anyone else find it

Submitted by Rusty Shackleford on Mon, 12/06/2010 - 1:46am.

Did anyone else find it completely satisfying how after the Left screwed up America with the 2008 election the Right was able to get revenge by screwing up the voting in one of the elections that they find so important?  Lefties are livid that people voted for Bristol for so long while most Righties probably don't even know that Dancing with the Stars is a TV show.  This makes me wonder if Righties can screw up their other addictions like Jersey Shore and Entertainment Tonight.
