CNN's Bash: Was Editing Tina Fey Mocking Conservative Women First Time PBS Favored Republicans?
CNN's Dana Bash asked a great question on Tuesday: were Tina Fey's disgusting remarks about conservative women at the Mark Twain Awards "the first time that PBS has been accused of editing to favor Republicans?"
Almost as telling, CNN's Gloria Borger appearing with Bash on "John King USA" answered, "They edited out something Paul McCartney said that was offensive at one point to Republicans, so probably not" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
JOHN KING, HOST: Let's pivot here to show that everybody in life needs an editor and sometimes everybody in life gets an editor. We played this for you the other night. This is Tina Fey accepting a Mark Twain award. Listen.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
TINA FEY, COMEDIAN: I would be a liar and an idiot if I didn't thank Sarah Palin for helping get me here tonight. My partial resemblance and her crazy voice are the two luckiest things that have ever happened to me.
(LAUGHTER)
FEY: All kidding aside, I'm so proud to represent American's humor --
(END VIDEO CLIP)
KING: That's Tina Fey. She's always funny. Now what we learned since then though is that PBS decided they say for time reasons to edit this part out.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
FEY: For everybody else, it's a win-win unless you're a gay woman who wants to marry your partner of 20 years. But for most women, success of conservative women is good for all of us unless you believe in evolution. (INAUDIBLE) I take it back. The whole thing's a disaster.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
KING: Now Ed Rollins, she's funny, she's also political. Do you take it that this was edited out because they needed to get to a certain time for the program? We face those demands every day or when they had to get to a certain time, were they political in the editing?
ED ROLLINS: They politically edit it. There's no question about it. PBS does that from time to time and you know whatever. At the end of the day I think Tina Fey will be very happy to have Sarah Palin's Alaska ratings, which will be her own show and I think to a certain extent they sort of made each other, and I think to a certain extent I'm happy to see her get the Mark Twain award. I'm a big fan of Tina Fey.
DANA BASH: Is this the first time that PBS has been accused of editing --
(CROSSTALK)
BASH: -- to favor Republicans? I mean that's my question right. I mean are -- they're accused -- PBS is the network that's accused of being --
GLORIA BORGER: They edited out something Paul McCartney said that was offensive at one point to Republicans, so probably not.
(CROSSTALK)
KING: Go ahead, Roland.
ROLAND MARTIN: Hey John -- John, this is a perfect example of what Tina Fey said and they edited out was the funniest stuff that she said. So when people ask all the time why PBS is boring, hello. Exhibit A.
ROLLINS: I thought it was a master plan. They wanted to be boring so they could talk to all the liberal Democrats.
(CROSSTALK)
BORGER: Well, then they want you as a viewer, Roland.
It appears Bash and Borger have no doubt about the liberal leanings of PBS.
How telling.

Smelling the Roses?
If PBS was editing anything offending Republicans it is out of fear that the new Congress will let George Soros fund PBS and not the American taxpayer.
Exactly. Well said.
Exactly. Well said.

These people are crazy
The people @ the Proletariat Broadcasting Service are just ...

What about the "rape kit" comment?
They didn't even bring up the first disgusting thing Fey said about Palin making women pay for their own rape kit. I wonder why they would conveniently neglect to discuss that part of the passive aggressive, coat-tails-riding, little cretin's comments? Curious to me...
What next???
What next, Tina "Gumby" Fey repeating that Sarah "can see Russia from [her] front porch" - a line which originated with Fey?
I didn't think she
I didn't think she specifically said Palin would make people pay for rape kits.
Wow, talk about micro-parsing
What possible reason could she have for even uttering the words "rape kit" in the context of her receiving an award? Just to be extra gracious?
Cmon, Bal, it was a vile low blow, especially considering the venue, and you don't have to be a Palin lover to acknowledge that.
Why is it vile? And I mean
Why is it vile? And I mean that in a non-snarky way.
Tina Fey?
Maybe the difference in leftists and the other 80% of Americans is that leftists think Tina Fey is prettier than Sarah Palin.
Leave it in
I want them to leave it all in.... so it is on the record. We already know they bash and smear and attack conservatives, religious people and anything they don't think is liberal enough.
I want them to leave it in so we have the record of their bias. Editing Fey did not help Republicans.... it helped Fey in the lie she is not a left wing wacko and that the PBS crowd are far left wing wackos too.
Agree. Editing Fey's vile
Agree.
Editing Fey's vile comments protected Fey, the awards committe, and the Left from those who would find her behavior quite innappropriate. By "those" I mean decent Democrats and Independents who would be disgusted like those on the Right, and "those" people may stop supporting the lunatic Left with donations and votes.
PBS being careful to edit out the egregious comments was not supporting the Right but protecting the Left. Just another example of the partisan bent of PBS.
The Left thinks PBS schills for the Right. The Right has clearly and overwhelmingly documented the Leftward spin of PBS. No one's happy. Great. Defund.
*An example of the Left's smoke screen on PBS, suggest they agree there is a bias with PBS and, as a result of breaking their charter, PBS should be defunded. The Left will howl and knash teeth in support of keeping PBS because, superficially inside, they know which side PBS tilts.
The bigger question is
The bigger question is whether PBS should have given an award at all to Fey when they HAVE to edit out such offensive expressions?
If your mission as a network is to enlighten the public and influence children then the HATEFUL and CONDESCENDING attitudes of people like Fey should be shunned not promoted by sanitizing editing. Character and consistency walk hand in hand, such hate filled juvenile thinking is the hallmark of a narrow mind who refuses to accept or tolerate divergent opinions.
What the......?????
What the heck is that on Tina Fey's head? Maybe we should start referring to her as "Gumby" Fey.
Bash and Borger
I can't believe it! Dana (The Beagle) Bash and Gloria (The facelift) Borger sounding almost intelligent? Asking non-enabling questions? Mark it down as a day in history to remember.......because they will revert to type very quickly.
Can you imagine these two if Palin runs for President? Off the rails!
Fey-Palin - PBS. I'd argue PBS edited it for different reason
I'd argue that there might be another side to the PBS edits of Tina Fey's remarks; PBS does not want the Part 1 out there in the public's discussion.
Of the topic in question, there are two parts:
Part 1. And, you know, politics aside, the success of Sarah Palin and women like her is good for all women
Did PBS consider that such a view (albeit short lived because of Part 2) as this might mark the beginning of understanding and indeed, a bit of civility?
Could Palin be a good thing for women? What if Fey actually feels that, but decided to just go ahead and do her thing.
Part 2. - except, of course --those who will end up, you know, like, paying for their own rape 'kit 'n' stuff," Fey told the crowd. "But for everybody else, it's a win-win. Unless you're a gay woman who wants to marry your partner of 20 years - whatever. But for most women, the success of conservative women is good for all of us. Unless you believe in evolution. You know - actually, I take it back. The whole thing's a disaster.
Did PBS here, simply decide to use Fey's afterthought (punch line) in Part 2 as the excuse for not playing Part 1?
Everyone in America should be talking about "Part 1; "the success of Sarah Palin and women like her is good for all women." The larger agenda of the MSM is to keep such out of the national discussion.
