Olbermann Loses Almost 500,000 Viewers Since Triumphant Return

By Noel Sheppard | November 17, 2010 | 10:08

Keith Olbermann's ratings have plummeted since his post-suspension return to MSNBC.

As NewsBusters previously reported, MSNBC's "Countdown" saw a 35 percent rise in viewers last Tuesday when the host came back after his brief suspension over his campaign contributions.

By Monday, he had given up all of this bounce and then some:

  • Tuesday November 9's total viewers were 1,499,000
  • Monday November 15's total viewers were 1,039,000
  • Thursday November 4's total viewers were 1,114,000

Nice little 460,000 drop in just four days.

With so many media analysts from both sides of the aisle not only coming down on Olbermann for his campaign contributions but also MSNBC for its horrendously biased election night coverage, one has to wonder just how far this ratings plummet will go.

Stay tuned.

Submitted by Van Halen on Wed, 11/17/2010 - 10:12am.

Someone needs to get a video camera and sneak up on Keith. While telling him how many viewers he just lost, mention that Palin has hit a record high for TLC on the opening night of her new show. This would make PRICELESS VIDEO!!

I'm surprised he had that many to lose.

I would have thought minus 500,000 would put him into negative numbers. There's that many morons in the country who actually earn enough to afford cable or satellite? Can welfare payments or food stamps be used to pay those bills?

These numbers must come from the same people who counted the votes in Minnesota and put Al Franken in the Senate.

Not necessarily

Submitted by HockeyKid on Wed, 11/17/2010 - 10:43am.

We have to take into account some other demos:
  • Political junkies like us (with stronger stomachs than mine)
  • Bathtub Marketers Association of America
  • College kids playing the "Countdown Drinking Game" ("He said, 'sir'! Drink!!")
  • Ben Affleck honing his impersonation
But you're right; the whackadoodles at the Daily KOs (coincidence?) make up the rest.

HockeyKid, I'd like to add the following viewers...

  • Viewers tuning in for comic relief
  • Journalism students learning what not to do
  • American Psychiatric Association (APA) members
  • American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) members
  • Women who have filed restraining orders on Keith

Well I'm sure he got a  lot of "new" viewers that one night, curious about what he would say about the whole thing.

As we used to mangle the phrase in my family: They came, they saw, they said "What the hell...."

And never came back again.

Submitted by Barack_must_go..... on Wed, 11/17/2010 - 10:51am.

Olbermann has somehow gotten himself caught up in the unshakable funk I refer to as " The Obama effect ".

Ever since the Virginia/New Jersey, then Massachusettes dayz, every single thing/project/agenda initiative Barack touches,  immediately turns to shit.

It now appears MSNBC or at least Keith is suffering from a similar affliction, if not the coattails of the Obama effect itself.

Either way real Americans win and the Obama Socialist Regime loses, and that's a good thing.

Big shock there!

Just what I expected...

Submitted by PrairieSky on Wed, 11/17/2010 - 11:32am.

The so-called bounce that Olby got was nothing more than curiosity seekers, tuning in to see the train wreck...Once they realized that there was nothing new to see, just the same old bitter, nasty, unhinged libnut hater that Olbertwit's always been, they tuned right back out.

Predictable

Submitted by locomotivebreath1901 on Wed, 11/17/2010 - 11:44am.

In all fairness to Herr Ubermann (krykee doodle. did I really say that?),  these types of plummets occur with any media after a big event that sucks all the air out of the room. No, I'm not talking about Herr Ubermann's recent juvenile, attention whore stunt with his employer. I'm speaking of the mid-term elections.

Just ask any blogger or webmaster how much his/her traffic has fallen off these past two weeks. I bet similar plummets can be seen at Fox News, CNN, or the sycophant network dinosaurs.

But over-priced, partisan mouthpieces aren't like you n me. Look for G.E. - MSNBZzzz's parent company - to go hat in hand to puppet master Obama for another 126 billion dollar bailout from the tax payers.

How's that hopenchange working out for you, Herr Ubermann?

When Keef is challenged about his ratings on Twitter, KO likes to brag that he has the highest rated cable show during his time slot that is NOT on Fox.  Seriously, he uses that line often.  It's laughable.
