Mark Shields: White House Made Up Chamber of Commerce Foreign Money Story
Mark Shields on Friday accused the White House of making up the story about the U.S. Chamber of Commerce funneling foreign money into Republican campaigns.
Appearing on PBS's "Inside Washington," Shields said of the issue the Administration and many of their media minions have been harping on for over a week, "It was absolutely fallacious on their part. And they made it up, the White House did" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
GORDON PETERSON, HOST: What about Charles’s line on the attack on the Chamber of Commerce for foreign money?
MARK SHIELDS: Well, it was absolutely, it was absolutely fallacious on their part. And they made it up, the White House did. I mean, is there some foreign money? Perhaps. But that isn’t the story. The real story is domestic money.
And that was that.
Shields accused the White House of fabricating a story that has been popular in the news for over a week, and then the topic quickly changed.
It appears it's no big deal when this President and his team make stuff up a few weeks before Election Day.
On the other hand, as Shields is not the first member of the press to realize this story was a bunch of nonsense, it makes you wonder when the folks at MSNBC - particularly Chris Matthews who continues to beat this dead horse - are going to wake up and smell the canard.
Readers are advised not to hold their breath waiting for that to happen.

It's bad enough Matthew's just can't keep his greasy paws off that poor dead horse, even worse he's obviously obsessed to the point he just keeps beating and beating that one small part of it's anatomy it's now raw & red.
For a guy that's always so self righteous you'd think he'd show a bit more self control, not to mention children might walk in the room and see him engaging in such untoward behaviour.

Every so often Shields will criticize Dems and the left for something like this by slapping them on the wrist and noting there are bigger fish to fry or that they didn't have to play so close to the edge.
That's his way of maintaining he is objective, fair and balanced.
It's too bad he didn't call them out on the Mortgage Meltdown, ObamaCare, Stimulus, and Finance Reform by noting that they have lied about virtually every aspect of their claims and promises on those issues as well.

i demoted Mark Sheild to amateur a generation ago when prior to the original Gulf War in 1990 (?) he reported that the DoD was shipping 50,000 body bags to the Gulf in preparation to the slaughter that the Iraqis were going to give to the Americans and their allies.
I saw this report on PBS when I was visiting London from South Africa and it caused a mass attack of the vapors in the hotel lobby where I was watching. He is so 'stoopid' but actually his critical thinking abilities are swamped by his political prejudices .. aproblem with many leftist reporters.

As the noting site says:
The donor is only required to click a check-box, which attests they are legally allowed to contribute.
I'm sure no one would ever lie about that, right? Or, I'm sure they had lots of safeguards in place.

As elections come and go, one tends to look stronger than the other, but the foundations proceed to get weaker. Unless they drastically change, they will both perish, and rightly so.
The Tea Party movement isn't about revitalizing the GOP. It's about the dismantling of the corrupt Washington political establishment.
If the GOP wants to harness that energy, it will have to cast aside its leadership elite, and I don't think it's willing to do that, because that would mean shunning its patronage.
I'm hoping that new and genuine third parties emerge to capture the grass roots upheaval. We won't see it in 2012, but perhaps 2016 on.
