Speaking for myself, I will readily condemn Colbert's satirical use of the term if Palin will condemn Limbaugh's "satire".  Oh hell, I'll go ahead and condemn Colbert anyway because there's not a snowball's chance in Death Valley in July that Sarah is ever going to criticize Rush.

I am pointing out that if she trulys hate the word, it should apply to Limbaugh as well. She is clearly backing down from him, because nobody messes with Rush. Micheal Steele and many other Republicans know this.

Colbert is pointing out that is okay to call Palin a  F-ing retard if it is satire?

What do think cool?, do you feel it is okay to admonish people for using the word in a mean way, but okay to use it in a taunting satirical way?

Rush was talking about people being to politically correct.  Sarah Palin had the right to criticize Rahm because of her son. But, Sarah Palin lost all credibility when she didn't criticize Rush for saying what Rahm said, minus the f-word. 

To me it seems that Palin is a hypocrite, who wasn't sincerely offended by Rahm calling some people retards. It seems that Palin was using her son's disabilities to score political points. To me that is truly offensive.

Half correct, though some might say you were plain incorrect.  "Retard" can be noun or verb.  In Emanuel's, Limbaugh's and Colbert's usage, "retard" was a noun.  Also, "retard" can be a noun but not be a slur.

There is a grammatical difference whether "f**king" is used or not in combination with the noun "retard"- it is an intensifier in this case.

I would think the difference between you calling someone a "ni**er" and a "f**king ni**er" is about a 0.5 second difference in time before your head hits the ground.

I heard what Limbaugh said on the radio.  I've only read Colbert's words as printed in the above article.  (The video didn't work for me)  Arguing that what Colbert did was the same as what Limbaugh did requires the same equivalence, or should I say equivocalness, as saying anything and everything is "Art".  With regards to Colbert, the satire factor was extremely minimal if at all.

Limbaugh used the words of Emanuel to excruciatingly highlight the callow and viscious nature of the man.  Limbaugh could have not used the pertinent words at all, though the effect may have been quite lessened.  The shockingness, the repetitiveness, and the expansiveness of Limbaugh using those words were elemental to exposing the unsavory nature of Emanuel and those that covered up and/or supported him in this matter.  The power of the words afforded the potent effect Limbaugh desired in calling out Emanuel and others for their duplicity.

Blacks have co-opted the word "ni**er", calling one another by that epithet, which on purpose or not, has taken some of the power of the word away within the Black community itself.  This is not to say a non-Black person calling a Black person that word is less damaging.  It is to say that the Black community used the word amongst themselves to gain power over the word.  They needed to use the word at that time in history to alter dynamics.

In a similar though inverse fashion, Limbaugh needed to use the words of Emanuel to demonstrate in the absurdist satirical sense the the dark nature of Emanuel, his protectors, and the facade of Liberal Political Correctness. 

Limbaugh used the words as a battering ram in the guise of actual satire, loose and vulgar to be sure, to demonstrate the shallowness, meanness and vulgarity of Emanuel.  Limbaugh did not himself say Emanuel was a "f-n retard" or that the Democrats Emanuel vomited his invective towards were "f-n retards".  Instead he used the words of Emanuel to illuminate that Emanuel thinks his colleagues are "f-n retards" and that Emanuel's apology to MRDD people (Mentally Retarded, Developmentally Delayed though increasingly being shortened to just DD around the country) explicitly avoided addressing the Democrats he verbal assaulted in the first place, ergo, Emanuel may still think them "f-n retards". 

Limbaugh did not use the words to disparge someone as "f-n retards".  On the other hand, Colbert did. 

Colbert's schtick is poking fun, maligning, satirizing Conservatives.  Colbert did not like Palin before his statement.  OK.  He's the anti-Limbaugh in this respect.  The difference is Colbert made a declarative statement about Palin, and, knowing Colbert's dislike of Palin, the statement came off more as directed anger than smart reversal.  Considering Colbert's words as satire is like considering dog poop on the tree lawn as "Art".  In other words, a chasmic stretch.  And as crude as Emanuel. 

Rush did not call other's "f-n retards", so there was nothing that Limbaugh "didn't mean". 

It's a critical distinction:  Emanuel said and meant his words;  Limbaugh held the mirror up to the clown(s);  and Colbert the Carny barks lies to entice the rubes into his twenty-five cent peepshow.

Colbert predicated his "satire" on fabrication.  That's not satire.  It was debasement.  It was character assassination.  (but with a wink and a mug so it's okay-dokay)

I thought it was disgusting, just as I thought Obama's "special olympics" quip was disgusting. I thought it was as disgusting as the character in "Sling Blade" who referred to anyone different or slow, as "retards." I found it as offensive as YouTube videos about "how to kick a retard." I found it offensive as Rush saying

I was as offended as when it was was ignored for a week here until it looked like Palin was going to waffle off her stand against the word.

I was pretty damn offended by the entire lack of morality displayed on the this issue. I was pretty damn offended it was used as something political, and not common decency and an opportunity to show how the "retard" rhetoric is NOTHING but an extension of childish, cruel, bullying. I was offended as when I realized someone would sell their soul to get a call out from Rush Limbaugh and desert the people that bear the weight of "retard," those people in the videos I posted. I'm pretty offended that people who have been victimized by that word for much of their life,  feel a need to only discuss it in PM's , afraid of bucking the jackass herd mentality on this issue.
