Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh absolutely trashed Wolf Blitzer Tuesday for ignoring Barack Obama's declining poll numbers.
As he opened the program, Limbaugh informed listeners about new data showing the President's approval rating at the lowest point since he moved into the White House.
"He's down to 44% in a couple of polls, 46% in another, and where is the State-Controlled Media reporting this?"
To drive home the point, Limbaugh shared a montage of how Blitzer one day in March 2006 reported George W. Bush's sagging poll numbers almost every hour on the hour (video embedded below the fold with transcript, h/t Right Scoop):
RUSH LIMBAUGH, HOST: Let's go back audio sound bite wise, this is a good reminder, ladies and gentlemen, because President Obama has hit an all-time low in his approval numbers now. He's down to 44% in a couple of polls, 46% in another, and where is the State-Controlled Media reporting this? They are ignoring Obama's plunge, and it is a plunge in the approval numbers. March 13th of 2006, however, Wolf Blitzer on The Situation Room, a montage of discussion about President Bush's job approval numbers.
WOLF BLITZER, CNN: It's 4 p.m. here in Washington. So you're getting the first look right now at our brand-new poll. The president's job approval rating has taken a downward turn again, falling to only 36%. [break] This represents his lowest rating ever in the CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll. [break] The president's poll numbers are pretty bad, pretty awful right now, rock bottom as far as the CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll. [break] The president's Iraq problem and his new low point in the polls. [break] His approval and policies now are at new lows. [break] The president's job approval number in this new CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, rock bottom, the lowest it's ever been. [break] It's 5 p.m. here in Washington where President Bush takes a beating in our latest poll. His approval rating at a low ebb. [break] Our latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll just out in the past hour shows the president at an all-time low. [break] His job approval rating at a new low. [break] That's rock bottom as far as our poll is concerned. [break] It's 7 p.m. here in Washington. The war in Iraq comes home to roost for President Bush. Our latest poll numbers showing his approval rating at a new low. [break] Also: President Bush hits a new low in the polls. [break] Now back to our lead story: President Bush's approval rating now at an all-time low. [break] As we noted, a new CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll shows his job approval rating at a new low. [break] President Bush's approval rating at a new low, 36%.
LIMBAUGH: All of that on March 13th of 2006. Wolf Blitzer, it's 4 p.m., lead story, Bush poll numbers. It's 5 p.m., lead story, Bush poll numbers. It's 6 p.m., lead story, Bush poll numbers, it's 7 p.m., lead story, Bush poll numbers. Now back to our lead story, Bush's approval numbers at an all-time low. Now here's the coverage of Obama's new low in the polls as covered on CNN's Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer yesterday.
(sound of crickets)
LIMBAUCH: That's right, nothing but crickets. They haven't reported it. Well, what was being reported by Wolf Blitzer on The Situation Room yesterday and last night? Well, here's a montage.
BLITZER: Sarah Palin's tea party cheat sheet. Her political future may be in her hand. [break] Sarah Palin's sleight of hand at the weekend's tea party convention. [break] A most unusual cheat sheet. You might say Sarah Palin had tea partiers in the palm of her hand. [break] See all these papers? These are all notes and stuff I'm supposed to say, but I don't write it on my hand. [break] The answer is in the palm of her hand. Sarah Palin has a cheat sheet. [break] We'll look beyond the talking points on Sarah Palin's hand. I'm Wolf Blitzer. You're in The Situation Room.
LIMBAUGH: No bias in the media, right? There's no advocacy in the media, and there's plenty of objectivity in the media. Are we all agreed on that? I have notes here, said Wolf, I got notes, I got more notes than Sarah Palin, but I don't write 'em on my hand. They're just beside themselves. You know, I wonder if he did write Bush's poll numbers on his hand, as often as he reported that back in March of 2006.
According to LexisNexis, Blitzer did indeed discuss Bush's sagging polls during the hours Limbaugh discussed.
Of course, as CNN used to be affiliated with the USA Today/Gallup poll, its coverage of such numbers is not necessarily surprising.
But, in the past two weeks, as poll after poll has shown Obama's numbers similarly plummeting, Blitzer has not mentioned the President's approval rating once.
Not once!
By contrast, during the same period, Blitzer reported polls referring to the public's view of Sarah Palin, the Tea Party movement, gays in the military, the stimulus plan, and expectations for Obama's State of the Union address.
I guess the formerly most trusted name in news has to have its priorities.

They were crowing, "See how good we've done, in Six years we've trashed this guy so thoroughly that you've finally given him the low marks we've been telling you he deserves."
But for Obozo to have low numbers is a Slap in the Face to all of their efforts to the contrary. Why would ol' Wolfey Admit such a total Failure on his and the rest of the Drive By's Supreme Efforts to prop this guy up?

Wed, 02/10/2010 - 13:32 ET by timotheThe polls are an excellent way for the MSM to gauge its power and influence. That's why there are so many polls about Sarah Palin now.

BHO vs. Bush poll numbers
Wed, 02/10/2010 - 03:22 ET by sarge329I don't know why it's so difficult for anyone to understand. The Lamestream Media has to spin everything in BHO's favor. If they don't, they run the risk of being declared persona non grata at the WH press briefings. They won't be allowed in. No attention by the WH press office, not being called on by BHO, no insider access to the news. That would be a journalistic kiss of death. After all, they don't just report the news, they are part of the news. And of course, everything and anything bad can and will be blamed on Bush. If the TelePrompTer breaks down, Bush will get the blame. It's probably Bush's fault that this administration isn't as transpar-ent as promised. Bush probably knows where Jimmy Hoffa is.
Great point,
Wed, 02/10/2010 - 10:40 ET by UpNorthSarge. The money quote, "After all, they don't just report the news, they are part of the news.". Carrying it further, They don't just cover the administration, they're part of the administration.
And don't forget, it's probably Bush's fault that Okinawa Jack Murtha died.

Where's the bias?
Wed, 02/10/2010 - 03:27 ET by KC MulvilleJust reinforcing a point ...
This is how they hide media bias. You can't look at any single report and claim it's untrue. Sarah Palin did write on her hand. Bush's numbers were bad.
The bias is there for all to see. You just have to be willing to admit it when you see it.

The difference
Wed, 02/10/2010 - 10:10 ET by KC MulvilleHuman beings are subjective. That's not the same as biased. Conservatives and liberals are all subjective.
So, yeah, we're all subjective. But remember, this website addresses liberal bias in the media. We argue, and the NB staff provides volumes of evidence everyday, that the media establishment isn't merely subjective. If they were, we could live with that.
Media bias is different. Like it or not, the media control the public conversation. They're not just another player in the game ... they effectively function as the referee. And when they referee the game by giving preference to liberal views, and denigrate conservative views, they're damaging the same public whom they claim to serve.
If you ask: are conservatives and liberals equally subjective? - the answer is, yes, of course. But that's not the same thing as what we're talking about. What we're talking about is that the liberal media control the public conversation; they distort the public conversation for political purposes. That's what we mean by bias.
And who are you redo?
Wed, 02/10/2010 - 11:21 ET by jaydeee007Okay, so you admit it, well La De Dah!

Wed, 02/10/2010 - 08:05 ET by speppera whole other failure of Blitzer's that even Rush did not pick up on, is that the whole "Palin for Perry" event, did NOT feature true tea party activists-- they were all essentially filtered and managed to be a "Perry Pep Squad"-- if Blitzer, Limbaugh, and even Palin were to honestly do their own homework, instead of just reading what's fed to them by design, they would discover that MEDINA is the authentic representative of tea party Constitutionalists, as opposed to the FALSE "Tea Party Nation" of Steele, Beck, et. al.

Comparative "Cliff's Notes" back-up....
Wed, 02/10/2010 - 11:15 ET by Pilgrim1949Let's see, the incomparible Wolfie needs a whole fist-FULL of notes, while the "dumb hick" Sarah only needs a few words jotted down INSIDE her fist to jog her memory.
Geezy Looeeazy, who needs more of a crutch when delivering profound punditry? Hmm??
Stack of PAPERS (oh where, oh where is the eco-protest over all those poor, murdered trees?) versus a few pen-scribbled notes that can be easily washed off of skin?
Care to compare the "carbon footprints" of the two? (Or the mental brain-prints?)
I guess Wolfie can continue to "rearrange" his notes on deck while the Obama-boat slowly sinks beneath the waves.
Okay, just a little "off topic", notes-wise, but fun to compare the ever-serious deliverer of truth and light to the latest pompous harranges from the Left at Palin's Palm.
Pass the popcorn, this should be fun to watch.
