On Monday, a far-left leaning black college professor stated what few in the liberal media dare: if a white Republican said what Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) did about presidential candidate Barack Obama in 2008, it would be huge news.
Speaking on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Georgetown University Professor Michael Eric Dyson elaborated, "They would be making hay out of it, calling for his resignation. I think we're hypocrites and we're morally weak here."
Later on in the morning, Dyson took on Obama's handling of the issue saying, "This president runs from race like a black man runs from a cop" (videos embedded below the fold with partial transcripts):
MICHAEL ERIC DYSON, GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR: I think the Democrats here are morally weak, they are noxious to me, because on the one hand, you don't have to play into the Trent Lott versus Harry Reid thing because you can see a bunch of differences there. The reality is this, though. We have a President who is loathe to speak about race. He would rather talk about anything but race. And I think his personal discomfort should not be stand-in for his bully pulpit use here to say, "Look, I can accept Harry Reid's apology. But let's explore what Harry Reid said." [...]To be honest, the Republicans are given a high hand here because our side refuses to say anything that is even intelligible or coherent about the issue of race and to sweep it under the carpet as if it makes no difference. If a white Republican had said this, this would be huge news. They would be making hay out of it, calling for his resignation. I think we're hypocrites and we're morally weak here. [...]
Here's the problem though: [Obama's] personal discomfort with race must not absolve him of responsibility as an American president. We don't expect you as a black president to deal with race. We expect you as the President of the United States to address this. And I think that he's being shown short here. He's shown that he's not really capable.
Shocking stuff, but likely quite accurate.
After all, Obama showed with his dismal response to the Professor Gates/Cambridge police department episode that he really doesn't know how to deal with matters pertaining to race despite his bold promises during the campaign.
Quite the opposite of what so-called journalists advertised in 2008, Dyson thinks Obama is a total failure on this issue:
DYSON: I think that we should push the President. This president runs from race like a black man runs from a cop. What we have to do is ask Mr. Obama to stand up and use his bully pulpit to help us. He is loathe to speak about race.
Shocking stuff to say the least.
Will Obama-loving media ever see the truth?

I also posted about Dyson somewhere this morning.
I don't think we're going to see any of that...they won't take him on in my opinion, anymore than they would Tavis Smiley...where is he and his opinion by the way? Cornell West where is he? I also mentioned Barbara Lee from the CBC....she didn't disappoint from what I've heard since then....how 'bout Sheila Jackson Lee along with James Clyburn..after-all we had the AG Holder speak out for Reid as well... just like he has with his defense for the New Black Panthers and the FALN in the past....what a guy that Holder is.

Also saw where ex Gov. Wilder, Va. I think it is, wants Reid to step down.... personally I want him to stay right where he's at...for vaious reasons, mainly so we can beat his arse in Nov.

Mon, 01/11/2010 - 20:42 ET by jaywlI recall Joe "Where's Joe Been Lately" Biden saying something about Obama being "clean." Didn't hurt him, won't hurt Sleazeball Reid. Our Negroes, uh, I mean, Our Black Folks, uh, People forgive them. However, I don't. As a normal, upstanding, non-prejudiced White Guy I took this to mean that Reid thinks guys like me would only vote for a black man if he didn't speak with a dialect or wasn't too dark. That is what he thinks of me and he can stuff it up his Yucca Mtn.

Mon, 01/11/2010 - 20:47 ET by NeoKongHe hates the fact that white people now have official permission to call him a Negro. It bugs him so much that he doesn't care that it was Harry Reid who said it. That is hilarious. Did anyone see the video of Ann Coulter on Fox News calling Al Sharpton a negro right to his face. I almost pee-ed my pants it was so damn funny because he couldn't say a damn thing about it and he had to take it and she knew it. It was hilarious. I bet he bit his lip so hard he tasted blood. It think it has been a long time since a white person called Al Sharpton a negro to his face. The best part is now white people are insulated from cries of racism now because no matter whoever gets accused they can always point to Harry Reid and say "you didn't mind it when he called Obama a light skinned negro."

I ask that all of you watch Glen Becks show (you may be able to find it) where he had an ENTIRE audience of Black folks on and the gist of it was they all (or almost all) were CONSERVATIVES.
It was a great, great, great show that I LEARNED from and I am NO fan of Beck (to much PT Barnum for my taste sometimes).
He is doing a part #2 this Friday at 5:00 pm as he got so much positive feedback.
A great man once said, YOU only get out of life what YOU put into it, he obviously wasn't a liberal.

I was impressed with the last group he had, because I honestly had never seen such a large group of black Americans chomping at the bit to have the government release the economic restraints that bind them.

It is only in the broader view of the various double-standards when it comes to race that I agree with the Republicans. When we complain about this I believe we should make sure our message is more about the double-standard than the statement itself.

There is no difference here. To a RAT all things get a pass, whether it's driving drunk, humping Marylynn Monroe or implementing the policies that make blacks a sub-culture needing special attention.
Barry is the spawn of a British Kenyan, he's no negro, heck he's almost all white... but the media always give his pictures that special tint.
