A professor at the university in the middle of the ClimateGate scandal called global warming skeptic Marc Morano "an a**hole" on live television Friday.
This marvelously came moments after Andrew Watson, a professor at the University of East Anglia, told the BBC host moderating the discussion that the controversy surrounding e-mail messages obtained from his school's computers is "a real setback not because there's anything wrong with the science, but because the character assassination and the temperature of the debate which you can just see from our colleague in America is just obsuring the important issue."
Less than ten seconds after making this sanctimonious, holier than thou statement, Watson said as the interview came to a close, "What an a**hole" (video embedded below the fold):
Isn't it fascinating to see how quickly folks that complain about character assassination jump to using it themselves when they're losing a debate?
I guess such hypocrisy isn't exclusive to liberals on this side of the Pond.
Here's the entire debate for those interested (transcribed highlights available at Climate Depot):
Kudos to the BBC for this segment.
When will ABC, CBS, or NBC cover this story in this fashion?
Stay tuned.

A Drop In The Bucket
Sat, 12/05/2009 - 16:59 ET by miss911ninjaWonderful! His vivid descriptions of the planet's powerful forces and resiliency reminds us that we have essentially no power at all. Well, everyone except the greenies realizes it. I think it's because environmentalists are not humbled by nature. They have an inflated sense of their own significance, so they can't understand that humanity is just a drop in the bucket. Many of them probably reached this state beginning in childhood when they got trophies just for their presence!
we have no power in the big macro sense....but
Sat, 12/05/2009 - 19:59 ET by PaarlI remember quite clearly when we moved back to NJ from Rhodesia in 1965....prior to that move I do not remember ever 'seeing' air or the atmosphere....there were smokestacks and steel mills etc in Rhodesia and coal plants but they were few and the air was clear.
In NJ in 1965 you could see the air daily and a ring of smog surrounded NYC out 25 miles from the plants and the cars. While the effect was not global man's activities was certainly having a negative regional influence. Many times over the next X years there occurred what was called temperature inversions when cool polluted air was trapped by a higher level of stagnant warm air and the result was a build up of pollutants that were not being cleared away by moving weather fronts. I remember school being cancelled several times and we were warned to stay inside and refrain from athletic activities......
So while AGW is probably a scam and ALGORE is a shyster prior to the gov't required catalytic converter and other basic pollutant controls man was having quite a negative effect on regional atmospheric conditions,,.....
and while I am sure the planet will survive a full scale nuclear exchange, should it occur, the man made conditions will probably be less than ideal..

Was THIS the best kind of debate that his degree could buy? 'Shut up' and 'what an --- hole'? I'd expect that kind of 'debate' from an ill-mannered kid in a schoolyard, but this guy is supposed to be a professor - supposed to be the best and the brightest the world has to offer.

Sat, 12/05/2009 - 15:19 ET by iveseenitallRight on. This is exactly why there is no "thinking" going on in classrooms today. "Liberal" educators are closed-minded. Their objective in any "debate" is to win, not to find the truth. And when they are losing, they revert to phrases such as "shut up" and "a-hole". Immature---and ,ironically, truly anti-intellectual. Then they call themselves "professors" and "teachers". Sad.

Yes. We have been warming for the last 100 years.
Sat, 12/05/2009 - 14:59 ET by JWFAs Mr. Morano was probably trying to say at the end. It does not mean that man is responsible or the mean mean mean CO2 molecule is at fault.
We may be cooling now. We have been warming in the past. It has been warmer. It has been cooler. It may get warmer. It may get cooler. This is what the earth does with or without man.
The earth is a self regulating system. It is what makes life possible. It has never gotten too warm or too cold to kill off all life. We should be celebrating this wonderful climate system that sustains and protects us instead of cowering in fear that we have somehow drastically modifed it to such a degree we have to destroy our economy to unmodify it.
Anyone remember the 95% of the planet untouched by man? The 75% that is ocean? The forests, jungles, tundra, desert, mountains, swamps? The earth has absorbed everything we have thrown at it, burped, looked us in the eye and said "what else ya got boopie?"

Of course. That's the absurd dirty little secret the idiots in the media ignore. Didn't ANYONE learn photosynthesis? The ignorance on display is astounding -- absolutely astounding!
Is it possible Mother Nature really is brilliant, and the rise in CO2 since 1850 corresponds nicely with the rise in population?
Scientists have been confused by the oceans' "recent" inability to absord CO2. Is it possible Mother Nature recognizes the expanding lifeforms on the planet that require O2, and therefore isn't absorbing as much CO2 to affect an increase in photosynthesis?
Maybe Mother Nature is responding to reductions in the Amazon rainforest, or other destructions of forests in fires.
Who knows?
But the very idea that CO2 is somehow harmful to species made of carbon and dependent on oxygen is the height of stupidity. ns

But of course, even Republicans in Congress just aren't sharp enough to think of this stuff on their feet.

Warming vs Little Ice Age
Sun, 12/06/2009 - 19:54 ET by hwm98264.....It is logical and rationally normal for the current climate period to be in a warming mode as a natural, logical consequence of climate factors that caused the demise of the very recent 500 years of the ‘Little Ice Age’ (LIA). The subsequent warming post LIA is just one facet of earth’s ever changing climate cycles. Hence, there currently is shrinkage of some glaciers and some of the ice in some parts of the earth which is counterbalanced by advances in other areas. There is no such thing as a stable preferred climate period based on all of the historical data/records. The current CO2 caused global warming hysteria is fraudulent. .....Too bad the present day global warming alarmists could not travel back in time to the LIA. They would be so happy there and they wouldn’t have all of their endless predicted disasters to distress them so much. The LIA was a very, very bad experience for those unfortunate to have lived during that climate period; with many millions of deaths from exposure, starvation, diseases and plagues. Be thankful that it ended just before YOU and I arrived on the scene!

How much Hydrogen is required for the ongoing fusion reaction in the sun? Anyone? When is the next period of sun spot activity to take place? About 2012?, for the latter question; and about 4 milion tons per second for the first question. Both are important to consider in "GW", let us abbreviate. So when do we run out of hydrogen? How about "Coronal Mass Ejections"...anyone ever seen those? They are recorded daily by the SOHO satellite...mass equivalent to North American Blown off the sun at speeds up to a million miles an hour. It is both fascinating to witness, and vaguely alarming.
I may well be the only 50 years of Theology member, so much of what i say will be both shocking and unbelievable, but trust me. The sun is predicted to go dark. After that all hell beaks loose, and that too is described. Astrophysicists have kept extremely close watch on millions of stars, and know about "hydrogen depletion", gravitational contraction, followed by the "Helium Flash". This is what we can expect our sun to do...any time now; and then becomes a Red Giant.
The issue is not about who Tiger Woods is boinking...it's about ourselves being prepared for our own day of judgment. If my own behaviour is any clue, almost none of us are prepared. We are certainly not as knowledgable as we like to puff ourselves up to be either.
There was one ice age immediately following the Noahic Flood, and all the continents have been draining ever since, with "Desertification" the overall trend...and will continue. There is nothing we can do to stop that trend. But we can begin to focus on doing what it takes to prevent ourselves from regressing to barbaric tribes as things get worse. Sadly...I do not see that happening either.
Oh yes...have any of you thought about what would happen in the event of a massive Coronal Mass Ejection wiping out ALL satellite communication networks simulataneously, and permanently?
