UPDATES AT END OF POST: Picture has been changed!
USA Today's Oval blog Monday used a picture of a Sarah Palin-hating book called "Going Rouge, An American Nightmare" instead of the former Alaska Governor's "Going Rogue."
This despite the opening paragraph of the piece actually referring to Palin's book:
In her much-discussed new book, former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin praises Hillary Rodham Clinton for her 2008 presidential campaign.
As the Huffington Post reported last month, "Going Rouge" was created by the editors of the far-left magazine The Nation with the expressed intent of mocking Palin:
An alternative, liberal judgment of Sarah Palin's legacy will appear in book stores on November 17, the same day Palin's own autobiography, "Going Rogue: An American Life," hits the shelves. "Going Rouge: An American Nightmare" is the brainchild of Richard Kim and Betsy Reed, editors at the progressive magazine The Nation. In addition to their nearly identical titles, the two books share similar covers, both showing Palin smiling into the distance.
Just in case USA Today opts to change it, here's a screencap courtesy NB reader Sinistar:
Maybe the good folks at USA Today should explain why the picture of a liberal book attacking Palin was used instead of the real one.
*****Update: Within minutes of this post going up, the picture has been changed to Palin's REAL book (h/t NB reader Thomas Charles Stewart)...

That's MUCH better.
For the record, the picture was still "Going Rouge" shortly before I posted this piece at 10:09 AM.
Maybe someone at USA Today should add an update to the article explaining why "Going Rouge" was there for at least 21 hours.
*****Update II: The author has issued a correction...
ERRATUM: An earlier posting featured the photo of a different Sarah Palin book. The Oval regrets the error.

The people in the left
Tue, 11/17/2009 - 10:13 ET by kgThe people in the left media are such children. Heaven forbid they might actually act like adults when doing a story.
"DumbAssity of Dope"
That's because they are.
Tue, 11/17/2009 - 10:18 ET by Red JeepLiberals are adult children whose bodies have matured, but not their minds. That why they are so good at being artists, actors, authors, etc.
They feel, have no common sense, and can't think beyond step one when planning anything.
That's exactly the result
Tue, 11/17/2009 - 10:20 ET by HockeyKidThat's exactly the result the perpetrators of that book were aiming to get--exposure for their book when people intended to refer to the real book. As usual, the left has no class whatsoever.
Even funnier, though, is the article itself. It claims that "most people" find Hillary Clinton--a junior Senator cum patronage-based Secretary of State--to be more qualified as a presidential candidate than Sarah Palin, who has at least 8 years of executive experience at various levels.
Those who support Clinton based on White House experience are basing their assessment on the idea that she had access to information and situations for which no First Lady has clearance. If they're right, then the Clintons are federal felons (again), and Hillary's DQed on that account. If they're wrong, then Hillary's no more qualified than any other citizen.

Tue, 11/17/2009 - 10:52 ET by okiehawk44I may not want Palin at the top of the ticket but the continual bashing of a woman who "walks the walk" and is much closer to each of us in the electorate than the "Haves" in DC like Pelosi and Hillary make me willing to vote for her anyway.
Hell I voted for McCain even though I had a large clothespin on my nose. I would have had 2 but for Sarah.

Tue, 11/17/2009 - 11:41 ET by solo4357One of the traps liberals always seem to fall into with conservatives is assuming viscious motives without the facts. (re: Truthers). I can't count the number of times I've fat fingered rouge for rogue or any number of other words. I think it's probably more likely sloppy work on the part of USA today who searched Amazon, found the picture (which looks very similar to the actual book) and posted it not thinking. This looks more like incompetence than anything malicious.
Since newsbusters is popular, it probably didn't draw any notice until it was posted on this site at which point they drew a lot of ire from newsbusters readers, which explains the quick change.
I'm all for bashing the leftist media when warranted but I want all the facts and occam's razor says to me this was a dumb mistake. If Hannity can make one, we should allow for them to make one once in a while, otherwise we become as biased as they are.
That's funny

Tue, 11/17/2009 - 12:25 ET by solo4357and neither do you. Objective unbiased reporting means working on facts, not opinion. Prove it was malicious. It's a ridiculous thing to do and does nothing but draw ire and criticism on an otherwise mundane story. Why do it? Are they really that short-sighted? History suggests yes but not every single time is it malicious. Sometimes it's just incompetence which is just as likely given the current state of the media.

Also. if "we" do not become as biased as "they" are, then conservatives will continue to have their a**es handed to them.
This is not a case of taking the "high" road, this is a case of survival.

Newsweek cover
Tue, 11/17/2009 - 11:50 ET by StarAZThis is all so lame it makes my teeth grow hair. Our paper--AZ Republic--was all negative. That Beckel guy in Hannity said she should never have posed for the Newsweek cover in shorts--did she pose? Or was that one of those fake pix? Who even knows. It sure doesn't pay to be cute in this country!
The pic is from the magazine “Runners World”
Tue, 11/17/2009 - 12:26 ET by Red JeepSarah Palin comments on her Facebook page:
"The choice of photo for the cover of this week's Newsweek is
unfortunate. When it comes to Sarah Palin, this "news" magazine has
relished focusing on the irrelevant rather than the relevant. The
Runner's World magazine one-page profile for which this photo was taken
was all about health and fitness - a subject to which I am devoted and
which is critically important to this nation. The out-of-context
Newsweek approach is sexist and oh-so-expected by now. If anyone can
learn anything from it: it shows why you shouldn't judge a book by its
cover, gender, or color of skin. The media will do anything to draw
attention - even if out of context."

...as if the Secret Service let someone get within camera range of the Bamster without anyone knowing! Sorry libs, but that picture was arranged, a cameraman was selected, and the shot was meticulously choreographed by the Bamster's political team. The Bamster made sure his chest was fresh-shaved. That isn't even a proper retraction
Tue, 11/17/2009 - 12:20 ET by RightTurnNoStop"ERRATUM: An earlier posting featured the photo of a different Sarah Palin book. The Oval regrets the error."
Going Rouge is not even a Sarah Palin book. It is a liberal piece of trash designed to denigrate a woman who has values that most of this country agree with. The idea that it was all just an "honest mistake" is just hogwash. If USA Today was truly innocent there would have been a proper reference to the incorrect one being "an opinion book about Sarah Palin."
It's just another example of the left-biased media's shrill panic about an intelligent independent woman who's values and beliefs are in tune with real Americans. Period.

Tue, 11/17/2009 - 13:30 ET by goldboughI'm not really sure what nightmarish trip Palin has taken us on. Has it been as bad as spending uncountable amounts of money? Lying about whatever possible? Is she narcissistic? Every day I look at Drudge and I feel like I'm in a nightmare because of Obama.
I'd have to see the poll question to see if their conclusion is valid. In the pollster's view, what determines "qualified"? How about "Who would you vote for-Palin or Clinton?" I think you'd get a better sampling of the thinking out there.
