In its opening sketch last night, NBC's "Saturday Night Live" mocked Vice President Joe Biden and healthcare reform.
With the President out of the country for a week, Biden, played by Jason Sudeikis, has picked the lock on the Oval Office in order to get something big done while Obama is gone.
He opted not to solve what's going on in Afghanistan because it's "a mess - it can't be fixed...It's worse than Scranton."
As for fixing the economy, "We already did it...The stimulus is working."
With that in mind, Biden opted to reform healthcare by "[caving] in like crazy!...The President wants to pass a healthcare bill so bad that he will literally sign anything" (video embedded below the fold, h/t Story Balloon):
That brings us to number three: healthcare. Now here's something I can fix, and here's how we're going to do it: we're going to cave in like crazy. That's right, the President wants to pass a healthcare bill so bad he will literally sign anything. You can water it down however you like. As long as it's a stack of paper with the words "Health Care" on it, hey he'll sign it.
Probably quite true, dontcha think?
Interesting the good folks at "SNL" not only recognize it, but are willing to tell the American people.

I give them kudos for doing
November 15, 2009 - 09:43 ET by motherbeltI give them kudos for doing it, but I didn't think any of it was funny.
No kudos is deserved though.
November 15, 2009 - 10:13 ET by notonmywatchNo kudos is deserved though. As usual, they have to fake as if they're not simple propagandists, and this is how they do it.
Any "hits" on democrats portray them as loveable, well-meaning, while hits on republicans are altogether more nasty.
There may be a few words in there to soothe the intellectual conservative, but the overall impression is what really lasts.
It's an abusive relationship. Over half the audience is very conservative, and the abuser occasionally brings her flowers to say "hey baby I'm sorry will you take me back", then the mental beatings start afresh.

It is not true that Obama
November 15, 2009 - 10:55 ET by Gat New YorkIt is not true that Obama does not care what is in the bill.
He wants either a "public option" or a hair-trigger for a "public option" so that he can nationalize the healthcare industry.
The idea of a "public option" is wrong because the policies leading up to this so-called option are government mandates that will lead to government run healthcare.
Well at least they have
November 15, 2009 - 13:13 ET by motherbeltWell at least they have gotten to the point where they can make any joke at all about Cisco and Pancho.
Really...that's who they remind me of. The supposedly competent do-gooder and his dumb but loveable sidekick.
Oops! Is that racist of me?

Gun Control - The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound.
Still Managed to Bash Republican Opposition
November 15, 2009 - 10:14 ET by EdCoyneThey still managed to bas Republican opposition to health care reform. Did I expect any less? Nope.

Biden's an easy target . . .
November 15, 2009 - 10:22 ET by GalvanicSNL has always enjoyed attacking VPs because it's safe, and Biden provides them with such rich raw material, mocking him is like shooting fish in a barrel.
Weakest Ever
November 15, 2009 - 10:33 ET by slickwillie2001I am not sure that I have seen every show this season, but this had to be one of the weakest. The Biden thing was poor, Sudeikis made no attempt to 'do' Biden's voice or his various oratorical tics, or even his goofy smile.
The Grace Kelly farting episode was bizarre and disgusting. Since when is Grace Kelly a target for the liberals? I guess toilet humor is their last resort.
Thankfully they put away Armisen as the Bamster. SNL needs to find someone more eager to imitate Obama. It's a sad statement on the state of comedy today that the only Obama imitator out there is Rush Limbaugh, –not a comedian.
The Lou Dobbs skit was also weak and mean. I think I can do a better imitation of Lou Dobbs.
Nothing on the Bamster's bowing? On Princess Nan's desperate vote-whipping? On KSM coming to Manhattan? On Dodd, Corzine, etc etc etc?
Why Grace Kelly as a target for liberals?
November 15, 2009 - 10:44 ET by SickofLibsSimple - she had class, therefore she is eminently mockable.
Both the Biden and Obama impersonations suck in plain English. Compare to Hartman, Ackroyd or Carvey.
Most SNL impersonations have been bland . . .
November 15, 2009 - 10:54 ET by GalvanicVery few SNL players -- past or present -- are good impressionists. To be honest, Tina Fey's impersonation of Palin is one of the best that SNL has done; most are flat, and further hampered by sketches that run too long.

Brevity is the soul of wit
November 15, 2009 - 15:52 ET by rolling_oYou're right about the sketches running too long, especially when they're based around a single premise.
Many of last night's sketches were based on a character with an odd behavior that progressively -- and predictably -- gets worse.
Biden says more and more outrageous things
"Mad Men-ies" take over the monologue
Wiig's "reporter" hits more and more on the cute Dairy Queen employee. That predictable skit ran 6 MINUTES!
Grace Kelly's gas passing gets louder and longer, until it's silent but deadly. FWIW, I figured it would be something like this, once "Jimmy Stewart" said to Hitchcock that Grace was the epitomy of grace.
Dr. Jekyl becomes more and more gay
Even the Digital Short was based on the premise of putting the toilet into places with greater and greater public exposure.
I did find the Kim Kardashian bit amusing, mainly because of the actress's voice and self-absorbtion (I've seen Kardashian on a talk show, so I have some idea of who she is.) And in the "Rear Window" sketch I thought the cropduster line was clever, since it referenced the crop duster scene in "The Man Who Knew Too Much".
Of course, the Lou Dobbs bit was based on his making more and more outrageous statements, and it completely ignored the fact that Dobbs' wife is Mexican American or that he worked in the fields with migrant workers as a child.
One last question: Does anyone think that the Bon Jovi "opposite guys" are funny?
Why is Grace Kelly a target
November 15, 2009 - 19:23 ET by balboaWhy is Grace Kelly a target for liberals? That's a stupid question. She isn't. Good grief where do you get these insane notions.
Don't get fooled...
November 15, 2009 - 10:40 ET by KimnotaThe problem SNL has is that the administration is not going left enough. Afghanistan is a mess and can't be fixed...Hmmm, what's the message there? Then on Healthcare, they're accusing Obama of caving to Republicans. They're concerned about losing the public option and framed tort reform as banning lawsuits, and then they even threw in giving up on same sex marriage.

Why'd they say the public
November 15, 2009 - 12:41 ET by Mitchell BlattWhy'd they say the public option isn't in it? Whose trying to fool the American people?
They only attack from the left
November 15, 2009 - 13:09 ET by lgeubankSNL's complaint is the administration isn't dictatorial ENOUGH. They're afraid ObamaCare won't assume complete, totalitarian control over medical care and turn it into a huge, redistributionist government entitlement program.
At least now we know why the network won't let that zombie program, that rotting corpse of what once was a comedy show, lie down and die with dignity. It's being propped up in a ghastly, twilight, semi-living state, to serve as a mouthpiece for the lunatic left and an outlet for crude agitprop.

November 15, 2009 - 14:56 ET by Chris NormanThis is on par with the kind of "satire" SNL did on Jimmy Carter when he was first inaugurated - they spoofed his "super competence" and broad intelligence. Yeah, they were just brutal in their mockery...

November 15, 2009 - 23:37 ET by MightyMouthI saw more conservative mockery than Biden/Obama mockery in that piece.

Jedi Biden
November 16, 2009 - 12:03 ET by leeanthonyvaI did like the Jedi-mind-trick hand wave he did over "the stimulus is working." Pretty funny, and dead on. Anyone who expects "fair" or "balanced" treatment out of SNL is kidding themselves. This wasn't bad.
