Whether or not you're a fan of Comedy Central's hit show "South Park," the Glenn Beck satire in Wednesday's show was really quite well done.
Even Beck himself seemed to like it.
The lead character Eric Cartman, in a video filled with Beck graphics and similarities to the Fox host's mannerisms, informed students that the school's president, Wendy Testaburger, was involved in an elaborate plot to kill Smurfs.
In case you were wondering, KILL SMURFS was an acronym for: Keywords, Integrated, Leftist, Liberal, Socialist, Modern, Utopian, Reformed, Farce, School.
Check your ideology at the door, for this really was political satire at its best (video embedded below the fold with response from Beck himself, h/t Breitbart TV):
ERIC CARTMAN, SOUTH PARK CHARACTER: Lunch today is going to be pizza, again. Friends, our school is dying and you know it. You feel it. You are like me. You want to change it. But oh, no, Wendy Testaburger's not going to let that happen. This is not the school we grew up in, and I don't know if we can get it back. Just take a look at exactly what our school president wants. You know, what is she trying to achieve? Let's just take a look at these key words here. Wendy's made it clear she wants our school to be a more integrated leftist and liberal place. But you see, when that happens, what we get is a socialist, modern utopian reformed farce of a school. So when you look closely, it becomes very obvious what Wendy wants: K i l l s m u r f s. Our school president wants to kill Smurfs. I don't know if we're turning into a Smurf hating school or what we're turning into. But unless you ask why, we're going to transform into something.
On his show Thursday, Beck light-heartedly discussed the episode with executive producer Steve (Stu) Burguiere:
GLENN BECK, Host: So then last night apparently and I find this hard to believe. Like the majority of the episode?
STU BURGUIERE, EXECUTIVE PRODUCER: Oh, yeah.
BECK: Was about me.
BURGUIERE Yeah. The vast majority, yes.
BECK: Set this up. This is South Park.
BURGUIERE: Yes. South Park, Eric Cartman, the fattest member of the children. Just thought I'd point that out, represents you as he gets the job of the school announcement guy and where she's supposed to say stuff like what's going on for lunch or, you know, what meeting is happening in the musical.
BECK: All right.
BURGUIERE: He expands on that role quite a bit and he accuses the school president of many things.
BECK: Okay. So here you go. And you'll see the rapid progression here. Now, what happens happening besides this? Are they making comments about me outside of this? Is it only these three pieces that are
BURGUIERE: No, this is can't find the whole episode.
BECK: Yeah, yeah.
BURGUIERE: I mean, the whole thing is basically you know, and this is Cartman's character on this show is always kind of the loud mouth making accusations at everybody. You know, that's sort of his Schick.
BECK: Right.
BURGUIERE: He's got your hair in the episode which is sort of the gray on the side, not gray on the top.
BECK: That's funny.
BURGUIERE: Some other mysterious color on the top.
PAT: They use the logo.
BURGUIERE: They use the logo. They go through, you'll hear kind of the music that sounds like the Glenn Beck TV open in which they show the same imagery, they have the same logo except it says EC instead of GB. You know, and these guys, again, these guys skewer everybody and they are always very good at it.
BECK: You know what's amazing to me is I'm a libertarian.
BURGUIERE:: And they are, too.
BECK: And they are, too.
Nice to see someone so graciously accept being lampooned.
On the other hand, wouldn't it be interesting to see CNN fact check this sketch?

Quasi commie, as per your profile:
November 13, 2009 - 00:19 ET by R D HelmSocial conservative, anti-marxist, communitarian quasi-socialist who has been dismayed by the behavior of the left, and the complicit media, who has a lot more sympathy for the honest Reagan conservative just trying to get his view across. I believe in a discussion and social compact more than I do academic reduction to a 150-year old political theory, or Frankfort school and Alinsky manipulation tactics. In fact, in most conversations, you can't tell me from a Reagan conservative.
Perhaps you will provide us with a translation of the above, as a freedom-loving, slightly conservative libertarian, I cannot reconcile the concept of "freedom" and "socialist," as they are polar opposites in my view.

Our elected representatives have failed us.
Nah,
November 13, 2009 - 02:17 ET by Quasi-socialistYou only over-associate socialism with communism. For starters, I don't believe that property is theft--which is so basic a tenent of communism that puts me far afield of many other Marxist principles. The Bureaucrat which most modern Marxist-flavored societies created for centralizing power is everything that Marx described as The Capitalist--and more.
I think that most of what I wrote in my profile is relatively clear, albeit novel. The social compact, apart from what the expert/specialists/judge class has interpreted it to be, is a constitutional republic and a union of states.
I think things out for myself--I don't box myself in with brands of ideology.
Also, I didn't use the word "freedom". Freedom and national security aren't always compatible. Freedom and traffic laws, freedom and zoning laws, freedom and commerce laws really don't have that much to do with each other. Which is not to say we don't have free choice.
Paradoxically, libertarians are often against people making choices to act more collectively than libertarians prefer. Their screen of "freedom" only expands to get the low interference civilization that they want to live in. Jefferson's idea of states as the "laboratories of democracy" (note, not "freedom") where people can vote with their feet, is much closer than laying everything flat per the libertarians. That's the thing about freedom, it can get paradoxical, as Sartre himself pursued to the reach of his ideology.

November 13, 2009 - 09:46 ET by notonmywatchhow "property" can be "theft."
It's simple. If you're trying to gain control of everything, then give people little "rights" to use it, then you declare that property is theft, and you're a big step towards your goal.
And PS. South Park hasn't had a really good episode in 3 years since the 9/11 one.

Always loved South Park
November 13, 2009 - 00:16 ET by TexndocI recall one of the earlier "voices" on South park was George Clooney. Then he became oh-so-pompous and then Matt and Trey gave us the "SMUG from George Clooney's Oscar speech" drifting across the country and suffocating people. (Remember the laughable Oscar speech he gave reminding everybody what Saints and Heroes actors were?)
What is Funny?
November 13, 2009 - 00:29 ET by ptsonLets see if the SouthPark gang takes on the decision to try the 911 terrorists in Federal Court. Trying to apply rules of evidence to a battlefield, should be hilarious. Then they can do "you killed Kenny" 2,957 times, hoots of laughter! Maybe they can get Cloony to do the terrorist mastermind, who planned the attack. Imagine how funny the speech to terrorists in Pakistan will be? What a laugh riot when they are let go after being convicted, like the black panthers. We have so much to look forward to, don't we? How is that hope and change working for you? Hum? Umm, Umm, Umm, Umm, Umm!

November 13, 2009 - 02:32 ET by DoktorFrankenI started watching this tonight and turned it off. I do that to programs that lie and falsely portray someone. (I went to their site to watch the whole episode so that I could comment on this.) The way they had Cartman do ''Beck'' is more in line with the lying crap that Olbermann does.
I don't watch Beck - well, to be honest I have watched just a very few times. I didn't notice him lying or misrepresenting anything. If I am wrong perhaps someone out there can give specific examples on when and what Beck lied about. Besides, if South Park is going to ''lampoon'' anyone isn't just about everyone on MSNBC a much better subject? And Cartman is a real douche bag and has hissy fits just like Olbermann. It's a natural made in South Park heaven (or Imaginationland).
It's too bad. I liked South Park for their fairness. Now I cannot trust them anymore.

''Sheesh, it never ceases to amaze me how clueless some people are.'' (Me neither.)
Those were some quotes from you - back in 2004. That, and other snarky comments on that site, earned you responses such as:
''ckc1227, welcome ;) I hope your future posts are more polite.''
My advice; step away from the computer, flush that Internet Marketing crapola out of your brain, put on something more than the underwear you ''work'' in, and get out and intermingle with humans for a change. Try listening at first because I believe your mouth, while flapping continuously, could get you in a lot of trouble.

November 13, 2009 - 06:51 ET by TykA lot of people who don't like South Park don't look past the vulgarity. Yes, the show can be extremely offensive at times, but it also does skewer both sides, and many times comes down on the conservative side. Sure there are episodes I cringe at, or jokes I think went too far, but then when they mock a liberal, I laugh twice as hard.
The fact that Beck could laugh makes me like him more. I can picture any number of libs whining about being mocked.
These guys have hit some very serious subjects and have pointed out the insanity of a lot of things. They are watched by a number of teens and young adults and it's good to have them exposed to alternative views.
Someone in the comments mentioned a muslim episode. South Park did do an episode about muslims where they had the muslim world up in arms over the show Family Guy showing a "cartoon of Muhammed." They used footage of terrorists and had them saying extremely funny things, etc. Comedy Central refused to let THEM show a caricature of Muhammed. So to really drive home the point of how absurd this is, at the end they had an extremely vulgar clip of Jesus, Bush, Cheney, anyone you can think of, crapping all over the place. I remember being totally repulsed. But what a way to prove your point: THIS is all OK to you but a drawing of some prophet isn't because we're so afraid to offend?
So good to South Park. As long as it keeps offending equally, I am a fan. Now, I hope they DO make fun of these idiot reporters like Olbermann.
South Park Rules
November 13, 2009 - 09:18 ET by EllisWyattSouth Park is one of the few shows I never miss, mainly because it's just about the ONLY show that fights back against the politcal correctness that's infected America. They also have a unique talent to explain some complicated issues, believe it or not. There was a great episode about the financial crisis which actually explained a lot about how we got into this mess, with a hilarious closing scene about how the government decides economic policies. I won't spoil the episode for you by giving details, but it's worth watching.
