Deadline Hollywood shocked the entertainment world Thursday when it predicted Oprah Winfrey would soon give up her syndicated television program to move it to her OWN cable network.
On Friday, the website TVNewser wondered if this might open the door for Fox News sensation Glenn Beck to move into such a syndicated arrangement.
This was on the heals of the New York Times lavishing praise on Beck for being the new Oprah when it comes to helping the sales of fiction writers.
Newser's Chris Ariens wrote:
With the news that Oprah Winfrey may take her daily talk show away from broadcast affiliates and to her own OWN cable network, that got us wondering: should Glenn Beck, now the #2 show on cable despite airing in he afternoons, be Oprah's syndicated replacement?
Beck is well-rounded. Between his #1 best-selling books and comedy shows he's a three-dimensional talent that could easily adapt to daytimes. He could also use his radio audience to promote to local affiliates. [...]
Beck is locked in to a multi-year deal with Fox News which would probably keep him from jumping anytime soon. His show premiered in January, and quickly shot past all competitors and even programs on his own channel, which air later in the evening to larger available audiences.
Amazing. Just months ago, Beck was the target of an organized smear campaign by detractors who sought to eliminate all of his sponsors, and now he's rumored to be the next Oprah Winfrey.
The folks in the leftosphere as well as the shills that sit around all day listening to every syllable Beck utters praying for a salacious tidbit that might bring him down must be hating all the accolades he's suddenly getting.
Isn't it marvelous?

November 6, 2009 - 16:47 ET by MOONSTRUCKa little more for my cable to see that!! Who would be Glenn's Gayle? O'Reilly??
it's a daytime show
November 6, 2009 - 18:46 ET by Willis_Leon_JohnsonI think it's about whales or something like that.
I never watch shows for the socially inept, poorly educated, closet dwellers.

I would much rather see Beck takeover BOR's time slot
November 6, 2009 - 16:52 ET by R D HelmI know it won't happen as long as BOR is still alive and kicking and his ratings remain strong, but I think it would be far better for Beck than being aired in the afternoon and being watched by a bunch of Bon-Bon popping Peggy Bundy types.
Of course, with technology being what it is nowadays, I am guessing they could run Beck's show in the middle of the night and he would still have about the same number of viewers.
Then again, maybe Glenn could just by himself CNN. :-)

Middle of the night
November 6, 2009 - 16:56 ET by NorthCoasterGlenn is on later at night too.
Unfortunately though
November 6, 2009 - 17:05 ET by bre1227you have to stay awake through BOR and Hannity reruns don't you? I think they should rerun the shows in the same order they are aired rather than LIFO (last in - first out).
Re Beck Rerun
November 6, 2009 - 17:29 ET by slickwillie2001Glenn Beck does a re-run at 2am ET, which is kind of a waste. Fox should rerun the shows in the order they were shown, with Beck at 11pm, BOR at midnight, etc. That might send BOR into a snit but that's an added bonus.
A rerun of Beck at 11pm could blow up his ratings by at least 50% and kill off Conan and Letterboy.

I agree...in my area we usually don't get a repeat of Beck, it very rare last I saw, but we do get 3 repeats of BOR...he's on at 6, 9, and 3am MT time.
Talk about over-doing it.

Becks timeslot
November 6, 2009 - 22:40 ET by Paul GHere in Albuqurque he is on at 3 and midnight. If i'm busy at 3, I usually try to catch the midnight airing; which then gives me a great excuse to then watch Red-Eye.
Maybe I might be wrong, but if memory serves..FNC used to run the reruns in order later that night until Greta came along.....
R D - I agree completely. I prefer Glenn Beck over the pompous
November 6, 2009 - 17:44 ET by Rush FanO'Reilly any day. O'Reilly's show is watchable for the first 10 or 15 minutes of the show.
Glenn Beck's website is reporting that he is recovering nicely from appendectomy surgery. His blog reads:
Those "compassionate loving liberal bloggers" might be the ones reported at Big Hollywood.

Glad to see Glenn's recovering.

BECK...
November 6, 2009 - 18:27 ET by danybhoyThe only way I could see Beck jumping to hit syndication would be to leave the NewYorkCity area. I don't think he would miss it if he could do his show somewhere other then NYC. He only lives in the area because his TV job reqires him to be there.

Freedom is a vital component of human effectiveness and fulfillment.
Now THAT is an excellent idea!!!
November 6, 2009 - 22:59 ET by Willis_Leon_JohnsonGive Sarah the fat ladys spot in the afternoon.
The media would be all giddy about showing the normal people in America what a fraud and a loser Sarah really is.
And the show would, within weeks, be the biggest daytime draw world wide.
And all those 'normal' people that the media claims, would learn how they have been lied to for years about conservatives, and the real world in general.
Sarah could showcase the writings of top selling authors like Beck, malkin, Levin, etc... instead of the drivel usually shoved down the audiences throat as having value to their lves.
Dr. Phil would be able to take a much needed rest......
I just do not see a downside to this idea.

November 7, 2009 - 14:05 ET by jihowarWell the O in the White House has used the presidency to become a TV star...so, Glenn could do the same thing and we could have both :-)
