The Wall Street Journal's editorial board didn't pull any punches Monday when it declared Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Cal.) healthcare legislation "The Worst Bill Ever."
The sub-headline made things even clearer:
Epic new spending and taxes, pricier insurance, rationed care, dishonest accounting: The Pelosi health bill has it all.
But the first three must-read paragraphs said it all:
Speaker Nancy Pelosi has reportedly told fellow Democrats that she's prepared to lose seats in 2010 if that's what it takes to pass ObamaCare, and little wonder. The health bill she unwrapped last Thursday, which President Obama hailed as a "critical milestone," may well be the worst piece of post-New Deal legislation ever introduced.
In a rational political world, this 1,990-page runaway train would have been derailed months ago. With spending and debt already at record peacetime levels, the bill creates a new and probably unrepealable middle-class entitlement that is designed to expand over time. Taxes will need to rise precipitously, even as ObamaCare so dramatically expands government control of health care that eventually all medicine will be rationed via politics.
Yet at this point, Democrats have dumped any pretense of genuine bipartisan "reform" and moved into the realm of pure power politics as they race against the unpopularity of their own agenda. The goal is to ram through whatever income-redistribution scheme they can claim to be "universal coverage." The result will be destructive on every level—for the health-care system, for the country's fiscal condition, and ultimately for American freedom and prosperity.
After the Journal detailed the fiscal irresponsibility oozing throughout this piece of legislation, the piece rolled to a spectacular crescendo:
All of this is intentional, even if it isn't explicitly acknowledged. The overriding liberal ambition is to finish the work began decades ago as the Great Society of converting health care into a government responsibility. Mr. Obama's own Medicare actuaries estimate that the federal share of U.S. health dollars will quickly climb beyond 60% from 46% today. One reason Mrs. Pelosi has fought so ferociously against her own Blue Dog colleagues to include at least a scaled-back "public option" entitlement program is so that the architecture is in place for future Congresses to expand this share even further.
As Congress's balance sheet drowns in trillions of dollars in new obligations, the political system will have no choice but to start making cost-minded decisions about which treatments patients are allowed to receive. Democrats can't regulate their way out of the reality that we live in a world of finite resources and infinite wants. Once health care is nationalized, or mostly nationalized, medical rationing is inevitable—especially for the innovative high-cost technologies and drugs that are the future of medicine.
Mr. Obama rode into office on a wave of "change," but we doubt most voters realized that the change Democrats had in mind was making health care even more expensive and rigid than the status quo. Critics will say we are exaggerating, but we believe it is no stretch to say that Mrs. Pelosi's handiwork ranks with the Smoot-Hawley tariff and FDR's National Industrial Recovery Act as among the worst bills Congress has ever seriously contemplated.

November 2, 2009 - 12:52 ET by stancoyleWell we are now getting a good look at what goverment run healthcare will look like with the governmant's handling of the H1N1 flu vaccine debacle. It's kind of funny how the initials of the Public Option and Post Office match up so close.
Come on people, are you that stupid and blind that you will drink the cool-aid without asking what's in this drink!!!!

November 2, 2009 - 14:30 ET by Bluegillyou decide you don't want their health care plan and pay the fines....then you get sick?
The short answer.
November 2, 2009 - 15:18 ET by Par for the CourseYou buy a policy in the exchange (you can't be denied for having a pre-existing condition), get treated, then drop the policy.
In the Senate Finance Committee, Senator Max Baucus initially tried to make the penalty for a family policy $3,800.00, but "after hearing pleas from some of his own committee members", reduced the penalty to $1,900.00:
THAT'S what's killing MassCare.
November 2, 2009 - 15:28 ET by TailgunnerMassachusetts residents have the same 'mandate' to buy health insurance as Obama wants for the rest of us.
MassCare also has the 'fine' for those who do not obey this 'mandate'.
MA residents are perfectly willing to pay the 'fine', wait until they get sick, then enroll in MassCare which cannot turn them down for preexisting conditions.
It's kind of like wrecking your Jaguar on Monday, taking out insurance on it on Tuesday...then making a claim for the accident on Wednesday.

I'm heartened to see that the WSJ didn't refer to the abomination as a "Healthcare Reform Bill". "Reform" implies a change for the better but this so-called "bill" should be called "Healthcare Murder".

I hope and pray nothing gets passed with OCare...if anything does, it's disastrous forever in this country in my opinion.
One toe is all it takes to get in that door.
I am really hoping we win in all three states tomorrow...(I know the left will play it down, heck they already have been with their talking points...plus we all know how NJ cheats to win using any tactic) but say we do....this will have to give a heck of a lot of so-called Blue Dogs and RINOs pause....along with others in politics of all stripes...we may be able to defeat some horrendous plans/Bills that they have planned for this country before they can ever get passed if they have any brains and want to hold their seats.

It gets old...and by the way....it isn't working anymore...so far anyway.
People do not like the direction they see the 'D' party taking us, nor the RINOs in the 'R' party ...there is a revolt, revolution going on...all of them had better take a step back, wake up and smell the coffee...or a heck of a lot of them are going to go 'Poof'!

bt, It would be so
November 2, 2009 - 18:06 ET by Chris Normanbt,
It would be so encouraging if all the contests went our way tomorrow - even though I have the idea that Christie isn't as conservative as we would like (his campaign running from Joe Wilson yesterday was sort of alarming). At any rate, it will be so therapeutic to watch as the media scurry to make excuses, down grade, and denigrate the victors and those who elected them. We all know what will be said by Matthews and his ilk, don't we? And to hear what the Andrea Mitchells will say will even be funnier... :)

Nuclear Option????
November 2, 2009 - 18:04 ET by BlondeI've heard it suggested today that the House will pass this monstrosity on Friday....then on to the Senate where Dingy Harry is going to use the nuclear option.
Wait for it. In the nuclear option will be everything else these communists want, including the kitchen sink.
This is truly frightening, because they only need 51 votes with reconciliation.....and they're thinking of passing EVERYTHING in one fell swoop.
I don't think they have anywhere close to 60 votes, but they are desparate for a "WIN" for Obama.
Time to pay attention, people.
I hope he fails, too.

Most hated woman in America? Close. Really close, but my ex has a forever lock on that title. (Don't say mean things to me; I heard that from her CURRENT hubby)
While reading through the prior posts cheers me up a bit, I just keep thinking how absolutely stunned I was when the presidential election phase drew to a close in November, 2008.
I was NOT stunned at the result. McCain had just run the shi**iest campaign I had ever witnessed, against an opponent who had managed to cobble together a team that ran a near flawless one.
What stunned me was the thought that a majority of American voters had just put into office a person they knew little, if anything, about.
The very reasons (or now excuses, for some) they use for having voted for this posprez make me think that too many of the electorate were shallow souls looking for a candidate with shiny goals.
ALL candidates operate pretty much the same, but this one tapped something in the voting public that I still don't understand. I have some thoughts, but part of them involve race, and that is one road I ain't going down.
Then again, the previous sentence underscores part of the problems we now face as a nation.
Don't complain about a problem without at least offering a solution, you say.
Have an open dialogue on race, you say?
No thanks; not when one side gets to determine the definition of the word "open."
Anyhooo, said voters found a kindred soul indeed in this LOTUS/TOTUS, whose goals were not only shiny, but so lofty as to be unreachable without making a hill of taxpayers to climb on to reach them.
If enough of those who voted for Barack the Obama experience buyers remorse, well, ---- we'll see.
