George Will: Obama’s Only Achievement -- People Like Us Better

A year after Barack Obama was elected President, one thing has become perfectly clear: George Will is THE mainstream media member who seems completely comfortable pointing out the new White House resident's shortcomings.

Such happened again on the latest installment of ABC's "This Week" when host George Stephanopoulos began the Roundtable segment:

George, let me just begin with a threshold question. We're about a year out from the election. Has the President delivered on that promise of change?

Rather than the typical sycophantic response one normally gets from media figures when such questions are asked about Obama, Will marvelously whacked the ball right out of the park (video embedded below the fold with partial transcript):

GEORGE WILL: I think domestically and in foreign policy he has. His one great achievement is to enhance the status of the United States. Now, that happens to have zero cash value it turns out. The Iranians, the North Koreans, the Afghan government, China and India regarding carbon limitations. He's made no progress on any of these fronts. But people like us better. So I suppose that's an achievement.

I suppose so, too, George.

Bravo!

Lovely softball from the Clintonista. Don't be fooled by the Clintonistas though. Our enemy's enemy will not always be our friend. They would be pushing the very same marxist government-run insurance right now, and possibly succeeding more.

They Like Us The Same

And what "people" like us better? The left wing dominated worldwide news media, that's who. Gone are the slanted, hate-filled headlines and front page articles disseminating partisan attacks against George W. Bush. The appearance of the world hating the US has been taken away. But overall, people feel the same way about the US that they always have: if there's a calamity, be it a natural disaster or the invasion of a sovereign country by warmongers, it's "WHO YOU GONNA CALL?" ( This is in all due deference to those idiots who think the US' invasion of Iraq was warmongering and our country illegally entering a sovereign nation, and all that.)

Different View

GW is actually saying that Obamas' main concern is what other countries think of him.  Obama (A.K.A.) The Vain One is more concerned about his world image than solving problems in the U.S.

The Vain One

I believe that you are correct!

I don't think the Brits are

I don't think the Brits are very fond of our recent decisons. France is laughing at us. Israel is scared to death of obama's intentions. Iran mocks us. Denmark threw us out of the Olympic bid. And Afghanistan's taliban is taking advantage of us.

Tell me again, George. Be specific. Which countries like us more? And what evidence do you have to support your claims?

Pissed

And the Palestinians are pissed now, too. So much for that Cairo speech!

P.S. Not that I care.

Well, I said I would give him a year

.....to make up my mind and give him a chance. Which is exactly what I said about President Bush.

I have never seen a President run of the deficit and the national debt so quickly in my lifetime and he avoids answering direct questions even worse than his predecesor. We are in danger of losing the war in Afghanistan due to his slow decision making, our dollar is in freefall and our enemies are laughing at the USA. God help us.

"I think we're kindred spirits."~Mr Shy to Sergeant ROCK

Alright, who are you...

and what have you done with our shawn228?

Seriously, it's very nice to hear the sound of your decisive and determined reasoning.  I believe you are someone who could come up with solutions to the many crises the US is facing.  Am looking forward to hearing more from you, shawn.

I hope he is impeached, soon.

That's what I was

That's what I was thinking,BO

struggler - ;-)

T'will be interesting to see if shawn responds to the serious part of my post!

I hope he is impeached, soon.

BO

I hate when people don't give a straight answer to questions and I never want to labeled as a hypocrite, so I always try to answer questions and back them up with facts when available.

"I think we're kindred spirits."~Mr Shy to Sergeant ROCK

Bo and Strugg

Thx for the kind words btw BO.

Curious about something though. With exception of me saying I like the fact that Obama said the feds would no longer raid pot clubs, have I ever said anything postive about Obama that you guys would think that I support him and his policies?

"I think we're kindred spirits."~Mr Shy to Sergeant ROCK

Oh, pardon, shawn,

it's your defense of liberal positions that must be confusing to me.  That combined with your disapproval of many conservie pundits (ahem - he who shall not be named - RL!).  If I have inferred wrongly, please forgive.

Perhaps if you would answer the serious part of my last post your positions would be clearer to me.

edit - have to change out laundry, back in a few.  Not ignoring you.

I hope he is impeached, soon.

Hi Bo

You will find that my only defense of postions and they are not all liberal ones are personal freedoms. I defend the liberal ones, like legalizing marijuana and hate the morality police, but I also vigorously defend conservative postitions on rights to free speech by Rush, Hannity and Glen Beck and the right to drive whatever car you want and eat what you want.

edit

and my disapproval of some people here are not for their postions, it is how sneaky certain individuals can be, they can blatanly lie about what someone said on one post and encourage a pile on for something they never said, but pretend to play peacemaker when it serves to their advantage.

"I think we're kindred spirits."~Mr Shy to Sergeant ROCK

Thanks, shawn! I really appreciate

your clarification.  As to your edit, that is above my pay grade -    :-)

I would like to put out an idea and get your input.  No sneak attacks - promise.  I would like to see a repeal of the 16th amendment (income tax).  It is my theory that gov't takeover of our lives began in 1913 with that particular amendment.

I would also like to see a new amendment to the Const. that entails balancing of the budget.  My idea is that for every year the budget is not balanced, senate and congress lose 1/10th of their net salaries.  I know these ideas seem, perhaps, naive, but this might be the right time in history to fight for these??

Tell me what you think. This may be a forum topic though.

I hope he is impeached, soon.

BO

I like your idea of balancing  the budget but I do not  know if a repeal of the 16th amendment is a good idea.

I love tax cuts as much as anybody and also to be perfectly honest,  I hate most liberal entitlement programs. Affirmative action, government funded abortion, etc. However our President has increased our national debt by close to 2 trillion in less than a year and our budget deficit is extremely scary as well. I just do not see how any of it can be paid down without collecting taxes and lots of it.

"I think we're kindred spirits."~Mr Shy to Sergeant ROCK

Hi shawn! Somehow missed your

response for 2 days, sorry.  I know these are wishful thinking, but wouldn't you just love to see the looks on the politicos faces when their paycheck keeps shrinking?  What a hoot!

Our elected representatives have failed us.

"Like Us Better"

You have to understand, people liking us better is an achievment for a "Liberal".

The fact that there is no return on that investment is immaterial.

Kind of like finding out your best friend is having an affair with your wife. Your relationship doesn't change the fact of what was done.

It is human nature to act in your own best self interest.

Obama thinks that by his "sheer force of personality" that will change.

IT WILL NOT!!!!

Really

I don't see too many countries who seem to like us. Seems just like old times, now, just a different leader. I do however see more Americans who don't like us or where we are heading under the man child god, Barak Hussein Obama.

In politics, it's not about being liked!

The world doesn't like us.  They are happy because they know they have 3 more years of doing whatever they want without repercussions.  There is only one thing that is understood in global politics.  Power.  And power brings respect.  Or fear.

Am I the only one who read Machiavelli???  Does anyone in DC or on the MSM have even half a brain?

You've got to be joking, George.

"His one great achievement is to enhance the status of the United States."

Obama's United States is a treacherous insult to our allies, a paper-trained puppy dog to our enemies, and a clear and present danger to the concept of individual liberty and the civil rights of its own citizens.

Only Chavez, Ahmadinejad, Alinsky and Putin would consider that an 'achievement'.

His one great achievement is to enhance the status of the United States.
-----------

NO he hasn't.
He has day in and day out traveled the world to denounce the greatest country on earth. He has gone after everything that makes this country great while enriching himself and his fellow socialists. If it wasn't for the United States the rest of the world would be in hell.

He has reduced the USA to a laughing stock.

Yes, but...

...as someone else mentioned...what you described as Obama's actions since getting into office...these are successes in the eyes of liberals. Appologizing, denouncing the actions of the previous administration, reducing "the USA to a laughing stock", etc. These are things that most democrats applaud.

What's not to like?

"But people like us better."

I have found that when my company borrows a ridiculously large amount of money at a high interest rate from people that are my competitors, they typically like me better too.  And when I visit my competiors and apologize for all the supposed faults of my company, they like me even more.  Not the best option for my company but it works out great for me.

Unfortunately, for those outside-the-box thinkers that refuse to like me regardless of the number of carrots I dangle in front of them, I don't possess an establishment media bus to throw those people under.

We were hated by some for our power, our resolve...

Those are the ones of which he speaks...

Now that our Hip Hop Prez is making the Republic less powerful added to the fact that Obummer  has shown no resolve, only indecision and groveling, our enemies don't so much like us more as they have lost a great deal of their respect, (read "fear") for the United States.  It's quite clear that the odds of the US taking action against our enemies in retaliation for acts of hostility in any form have dropped tremendously at the hands of the Commie in Chief.

Obama is a liar and Truth is

killing his Marxist agenda.

I agree Army Brat

The cornerstone of international relations is either fear, respect or bribery or some combination thereof. Alliances are based on this. Liking us or them is maybe a nice to have but is essentially just meaningless BS.

"Somehow, I told you so, just doesn't quite say it." Will Smith in 'I, Robot.'

The world doesn't like

The world doesn't like "us"...they like that we're becoming a weaker country under Obama.  The only time the rest of the world liked a strong America was when the wall of threat known as the Soviet Union was looming over them.  Once the USSR fell, they decided they didn't need us to be strong and protect them anymore so they had no use for us as a superpower.  Now they want us to be just another country like they are...and we're quickly heading that way under Obama's inexperienced watch.

Even if Obama does manage to turn us into Zimbabwe...

...complete with wheelbarrows full of cash and $ 1 Trillion bills in circulation, people the world over will still hate us.

Only this time, when they get their nads caught in the Russian/Nork/Chinese/Iranian/Venezuelan/Libya/Syrian meat grinder, there may not be much of anything we will be able to do for them.

Maybe we will be able to cough up one of those $ 1 Trillion bills and pop for a post card, wishing them piles of luck.

LOL-Guess the moochers at the UN will have to have to find themselves a new cash cow.

Our elected representatives have failed us.

This Week - partisan politics and race relations

Will's point, in response to the poll which showed race relations back to '60's levels, on the potential election of a white mayor (and a not liberal female to boot), was a good point, but, it missed a newly founded festering issue.

The black political leadership in Atlanta is telling the black people that they cannot vote for a white person. In other words, America had indeed come a long ways, until President Obama and his radicals, forced opened the door to black exceptionalism and Rev. Wright's controversial Black Liberation Theology. Racism has been born anew - there is some change you can believe in.

The analagy here to what Obama has caused is to someone who has had the horrific experience of being raped or being tortured in a N. Vietnamese POW camp. The abused person spends years recovering - learning how to get on with their life - while at the same time, progress is made in addressing the underlying cause of the abuse; then suddenly, out of the woodwork, someone comes screaming at you and forcing you to relieve the entire experience which you had successfully placed in your past and grown away from. Your anger and your worst fears are brought to the surface again. Years of recovering and moving forward are thrown out the window. It's been reborn.

The poll numbers went up because of Obama.

Why is this happening? Because the Obama administration has brought back race and race baiting as the way. Change in America means - it's back!

Secondly. On the issue of divisive partisanship in Washington. Let's be clear. It is this Obama White House that is raising the stakes here by very public and visceral public attacks on political pundits who oppose their agenda; the official policy to create attacks on, and then sustain the hate of Fox News, and the out-of-the white house agenda to not simply appease the radical anti-anything-capitalist-freedom of speech and anti-America comes to the aid of oppressed countries and people around the globe, but rather to promote the radical leftist agenda - thru power.

Obama has not changed the tone; rather, he has added a sharp shill edge to the tone.

And, of course, the national MSM, is helping him every step of the way here.

(;~/ gary

PS. Sharpton. '..home mortgage rates are at their lowest level in..'

He's giving credit to Obama for that? That's because the Fed is doing their thing once again to keep rates low, in order to fuel investment -- this is nothing that a president wants to take credit for. No doubt that $trillions in government spending can produce a blurp in short term economic rebound, however, carrying that debt and/or paying it back will eventually cause nothing but harm to the economy.

→ Thanks Gary

I always seem to get an insight from your contributions that I hadn't seen before.

And thank you for not referring to it as "reverse racism".  There is no such thing.

As to O/Soros Team agenda....spot on.

I agree with your every word.

It's on the video provided below the fold.

It's that "deer in the headlights" look Sharpton gets when he's asked a question that doesn't deal specifically with the only subject he knows anything about.

No, they really don't like

No, they really don't like us more, they just fear us less and are confident that their little Socialist and semi-Marxist utopias can get some $ and various concessions from the American sheeple courtesy of yet another Libtard White House.

George needs to hang around conservatives a little more often.  I think he fantasizes about being a real conservative and has to imagine how conservatives actually think.

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 86% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory.

"But people like us better.

"But people like us better. So I suppose that's an achievement.'

And they "like" us better because Obama is trying to weaken America. If only he can get us to third world status, why, they'll abolutely LOVE us!

Will is wrong and giving far

Will is wrong and giving far too much credit to the Dear Leader. They don`t like us better. They just like that the Bammy junta are complete idiots.
