Rachel Maddow: The Glenn Beck Of The Left?
So reads the headline of a column published Tuesday in the left-leaning website Mediaite.
For those unfamiliar, Mediaite is the brainchild of former MSNBC general manager Dan Abrams, and was described by managing editor Colby Hall as "Huffington Post meets Gawker."
No surprise there, for two of its other editors, Rachel Sklar and Glynnis MacNicol, both hail from HuffPo.
With this in mind, the latter wrote a piece Tuesday actually comparing someone liberals absolutely adore to someone liberals totally despise:
Sometimes it seems that Rachel Maddow is the Glenn Beck of MSNBC….merely in so far as she is able to explain things simply, engagingly, often with the aid of props!...Maddow employs flags, and signs, and stickers as she walks the audience through: the public option; the public option for the uninsured, the public option that defers to state rules, and the maybe some day option.
Hmmm. So there's actually something GOOD about Glenn Beck?
I thought these people saw him as the Devil incarnate.
Maddow certainly does, as she regularly lambastes the Fox host on her own show.
Can't imagine she or any of her adoring fans are going to like the comparison.
Frankly, this won't make Beck happy either.
Maybe this is what Mediaite views as "fair and balanced."

But that aside, does she as thoroughly document her contentions as Beck does? Or is she simply contentious?

October 27, 2009 - 15:33 ET by danybhoyStarAZ,
Glenn is everything you said, but he does something Maddow does not. Beck busts his @$$. He is killing himself to educate himself about the current political climate, & he knows he must factcheck everything he does several times before he goes with something on air. Because he knows he will be beat if ANYTHING IS WRONG.
Maddow does'nt need to do any of that because there is no pressure to succeed at MSNBC or AirAmerica. She does'nt need to get ratings because nobody at MSNBC gets them anyways. MSNBC exists to push the party line, it pushs General Electrics agenda, that's it. It's not about news, it's not about making a profit, & it's not about ratings. If it was, outside of maybe the Morning Schmo, ALL OTHER ON AIR TALENT WOULD BE SACKED, & then replaced. They have had their chances, they suck, & will not improve.

Not only no
October 27, 2009 - 09:41 ET by John53Not only no but hell no.
Beck maybe many things loud, opinioned, aggressive and annoying but he has the facts to justify his comments. He does the research and knows what he is talking about. He clearly admits that what he says is his options and that he is not a journalist. He has proven to be a showman but as a honest showman.
Ms. Madcow is loud and annoying and rarely knows anything about which she speaks. She does no research and repeats whatever the DNC talking points are today. She claims to be a journalist and clearly show no capability or integrity of that in any aspect of her program, much like her mentor Obermann. Her showmanship skill are limited to the kindergarden level but her mentors are at the PHD leevel, maybe a few more lessons are in order, then MSNBC will have two comedy shows on a night.
I'm sure Oxford University is proud of the comparison

October 27, 2009 - 12:49 ET by Sestren_NKWell, for starters, one of the reasons Beck's hated by the left so much is because he's actually influencial (Van Jones), something many leftists have tried so hard to have for years. That said, can anyone say Maddow has influenced anything in politics to the level of Beck? Probably not
Second, if you turned the phrase around, that "Glenn Beck: The Rachel Maddow of the Right", most of the people I know would say the exact same thing:
"Who the hell is Rachel Maddow?"
Who is that guy?
