A Danish movie about gay neo-Nazis won top honors at the Rome Film Festival Friday:
"Brotherhood" is a story about dangerous love and the search for identity. Following disillusionment with his career, Lars decides to leave the army and is drawn to the Neo-Nazi movement and not least to his peer, Jimmy. The two men become embroiled in a secret love affair, but such forbidden love cannot go unpunished in fascist circles. However, despite all the rules forbidding it, the love and sexual attraction between the two men is so strong that they cannot abandon their affair.
However, as the Associated Press reported Friday, there's more to this story than meets the eye (h/t Big Hollywood):
The winning movie, "Brotherhood," takes a hard look at the neo-Nazi group that the leading character, Lars, joins after leaving the army. The group carries out raids on homosexuals, but Lars and his mentor in the group, Jimmy, begin a love affair that they try to keep secret.
So, the couple falls in love after performing raids on homosexuals?
And such a plot line is worthy of top honors at a film festival?
On the other hand, if Mel Brooks sets it to music and adds some witty punch lines, now you've got something!
All together now, "Springtime, for Lars and Jimmy..."

mb,
October 24, 2009 - 12:55 ET by R D HelmIt appears the Danes have bought into the history-revisionist BS that the NAZIs were right-wingers.
They weren't, as the real differences between Nazism and communism can be counted on about one finger, two if you really want to get down to brass tacks.
Perhaps it would have been more comfortable for the judges had the plot been about two male commies who fell in love while marching other gay commies off to the Gulags, or worse.
But then, they would have had to wrestle with the fact that commies the world over are historically unfriendly toward homosexuals, and most lefties even today cannot even come to grips with the fact that communism managed to kill a couple of hundred million people in the last century.
Damn, can't people just make normal movies anymore?

Just what we need, yet
October 24, 2009 - 12:33 ET by Jack BauerJust what we need, yet another friggin' yawn inducing movie about men banging each other.
Let's hope there no scene in a pup tent, or a sauna. Brokeback Reichstag, indeed.
Now I won't be able to ask for a coffee and Danish to go, without it being misinterpreted.
And I hate to break it, but Mel Brooks already did the camp Gay Nazi schtick in The Producers. Springtime for Hilter und Germany, et al.

I'm not kidding ... just this morning I was complaining that there were so few "attractive" books out there. I browse through massive bookstores in the mall every other week or so, and nothing leaps out at me. Is it because there are no good stories around, or is it that the publishing houses simply don't know how to distribute those stories in a way that grabs attention?
And not long after that, purely by accident, this little story pops up. Proving once again that God enjoys making me look like an idiot.

October 24, 2009 - 13:18 ET by KC MulvilleI know, but it's a habit. Let's face it, browsing a book store is as much a habit as going to a sporting goods store to swing the newest thousand dollar driver. You just gotta do it.
Local Borders
October 24, 2009 - 13:51 ET by ChristianRebelYou've pretty much pegged them Candance.
My local Borders just recently hid the anti-liberal books (anything by Beck, Malkin, and "Liberal Facism") in some unseen section of the history department, but some how people still seem to find them since there seems to be very few of them in stock.
They do the same with the religious books, anything that explains the Bible, denounces Islam, or proves mainstream culture wrong is shoved in the back somewhere while the liberal books are up front and center. Yet once again the former seems to be the ones flying off the shevles while the latter sits fully stocked and untouched. There just might be hope yet.

Books for sanity
October 24, 2009 - 13:47 ET by cajun2I find reading good books saves my sanity. I can only take so much propaganda. Reading allows me to choose my own brand of brainwashing. Except for the ending, of course.

"Jeremiahs' Johnson"
