A day after key White House officials declared the Fox News Channel wasn't a news organization, President Obama met with MSNBC personalities Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.
Talk about your delicious hypocrisy.
Fittingly, the news was broken by FNC's Bret Baier during Tuesday's "Special Report" (video embedded below the fold with transcript, relevant section at 1:45, h/t Hot Air via NBer Thomas Stewart):
BRET BAIER, HOST: And finally, during this morning's off-camera White House briefing with reporters, ABC's Jake Tapper asked Press Secretary Robert Gibbs about the ongoing White House attacks on FOX News Channel.
After being asked about the charge that FOX isn't a real news organization, Gibbs answered, quote "We render opinion based on some of their coverage and the fairness of that coverage."
Tapper: "That's a sweeping declaration that they're not a news organization. How are they different from say, ABC, MSNBC, Univision?"
Gibbs: "You and I should watch around 9:00 tonight or 5:00 this afternoon."
Tapper: "I'm not talking about the opinion programs or issues you have with certain reports. I'm talking about saying that thousands of individuals who work for a media organization do not work for a news organization. Why is that appropriate for the White House to say?"
Gibbs: "That is our opinion."
Well, the White House's strong opinions about our opinion shows - - Glenn Beck runs at 5:00 p.m. and Sean Hannity at 9:00 p.m. -- apparently do not extend to similar shows on other networks.
A White House official confirms to us that the audience for Monday's off the record briefing with President Obama included MSNBC personalities Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.
Hmmm. So the White House thinks Fox isn't a news organization because it has a perspective, and specifically points fingers at Beck and Hannity.
What does the Adminstration think Olbermann and Maddow have?
I guess it's not a problem for a new organization and its members to have a perspective so long as it's one the White House shares.

How much time is spent developing people's skills, how much time is spent at meetings, how much time is spent on the phone, how much time on developing a strategy for the organization,, how much time is spent talking to various people? etc etc.
Look at the data over time and you can tell very easily what that executive considers important, and what is not considered important.
Obama has spent 25 minutes talking to Gen. McCrystal (basically to chew him out), and spent 2.5 hours talking to Olberdoofus and Maddow to thank them for their support of his Marxist agenda

In 2008, the Bushies began attacking MSNBC for the same reason. Ed Gillespie released a letter he wrote attacking the network (http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/05/white_house_slams_n...) and Dana Perino also made several statements as press secretary denouncing the network. During that time, MSNBC was also boycotted by Republican elected officials.
I realize that most of you folks on the right are used to marching in lockstep and obeying your master's orders, but some of us actually think about the stuff we read and write. I admit to reading Media Matters, but I check their links and sources before I accept what I read there. In this case, I found the original reference to this post on www.crooksandliers.com, which led me to the original Bush-related post on the Think Progress site. I remembered reading about the Bush meeting at the time, but in the process of verifying it, I went to Ambinder's blog on the Atlantic site and several right wing blogs to find their descriptions of the Bush event. If that constitutes being "told how to respond," I guess I'm guilty.

I just read the letter posted at marcambinder... but did you? It opened and closed with these statements:

Would W have been justified in telling Michelle and Barack that they could only come to the White House AFTER W left?
