It gets worse for Schneider. In 1971 he co-authored Rasool and Schneider 1971 which the abstract states:

Effects on the global temperature of large increases in carbon dioxide
and aerosol densities in the atmosphere of Earth have been computed. It
is found that, although the addition of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere does increase the surface temperature, the rate of
temperature increase diminishes with increasing carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere. For aerosols, however, the net effect of increase in
density is to reduce the surface temperature of Earth. Because of the
exponential dependence of the backscattering, the rate of temperature
decrease is augmented with increasing aerosol content. An increase by
only a factor of 4 in global aerosol background concentration may be
sufficient to reduce the surface temperature by as much as 3.5°K. If
sustained over a period of several years, such a temperature decrease
over the whole globe is believed to be sufficient to trigger an ice age.

Interesting that in 1971 he realizes that CO2 can cause a slight warming but as CO2 levels rise the effects are logarithmic and minimal in nature (something the climate realists always point out today).

In 1976 Lowell Ponte wrote a book titled 'The Cooling' which Ponte stated:

The cooling has already killed hundreds of thousands of people in
poor nations... If it continues, and no strong measures are taken to
deal with it, the cooling will cause world famine, world chaos, and
probably world war, and this could all come by the year 2000.

Schneider endorsed the book in the forward and said:

The dramatic importance of climate changes to the worlds
future has been dangerously underestimated by many, often because we
have been lulled by modern
technology into thinking we have conquered nature. But
this well-written book points out in clear language that
the climatic threat could be as awesome as any we might
face, and that massive world-wide actions to hedge
against that threat deserve immeadiate consideration. At
a minimum, public awareness of the possibilities must
commence, and Lowell Ponte's provocative work is a
good place to start. 

And of course there is always the classic Schneider quote from 1989 which he said:

…we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we might have.

 

In a May 24, 2009 interview, Schneider publicly boasted any skeptical scientist would be "slaughtered in public debate" against him.

But after many dissenting scientists happily took up the debate challenge, it now appears Schneider is shying away from any such debate.

"I certainly will not schedule some political show debate in front of a non-scientific audience," Schneider told the San Francisco Examiner in a follow up June 1, 2009 article.

Whew' only a billion will die

9 Oct  09 -  “White House science czar John Holdren has
predicted 1 billion people will die in ‘carbon-dioxide induced
famines’ in a coming new ice age by 2020,” says this article
published today on World Net Daily.  

Holdren predicted in a 1971 textbook co-authored with Paul Ehrlich
that “global over-population was heading the Earth to a new ice age
unless the government mandated urgent measures to control
population, including the possibility of involuntary birth control
measures such as forced sterilization.”

     I wonder if our science czar still believes
in forced sterilization?

Holdren's prediction that 1 billion people would die from a global
cooling "eco-disaster" was announced in Ehrlich's 1986 book "The
Machinery of Nature.
