Newsweek's Kelley: Protests Against Obama Are Because He's Black

Media cries of racism every time someone criticizes Barack Obama are becoming quite commonplace now, but this one from Newsweek's Raina Kelley takes the cake:

Let me say this clearly so there are no misunderstandings: some of the protests against President Obama are howls of rage at the fact that we have an African-American head of state. I'm sick of all the code words used when this subject comes up, so be assured that I am saying exactly what I mean.

Got that?

Well, in case you're at all confused, Kelley made things crystal clear in her article published Saturday amazingly titled, "Play the Race Card" (h/t Tim Graham):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

When "Tea Party" leader Mark Williams ap-pears [sic] on CNN and speaks of "working-class people" taking "their" country back from a lawfully elected president, he is not just protesting Obama's politics; he is griping over the fact that this country's most powerful positions are no longer just for white men.

You believe this nonsense? But it got worse:

Did anyone think it would be otherwise? There were always going to be aftershocks in an Obama presidency. Landmark events that change the paradigm between black and white people don't happen without repercussions—some are still complaining about Brown v. Board of Education. Black skin has meant something very specific in this country for hundreds of years. It has meant "less than," "not as good as," "separate than," and even "equal to." It has never meant "better than" unless you were talking about dancing, singing, or basketball. Obama represents "better than," and that's scary for people who think of black people as shaved gorillas.

Amazing. But then Kelley went from merely offensive to downright silly:

This hesitancy to even speak of racism widens the divide between readers and the journalists who are supposed to be covering the world as it is, not as they want it to be.

Are you kidding?

From the moment Barack Obama gave his keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, American media have been falling over themselves at the thought of him becoming the first black president.

Racism was at the heart of Obama's campaign since he tossed his name into the ring in February 2007, and so-called journalists were never shy about it.

On the other hand, Kelley wrote, "[T]his reluctance [to openly discuss racism] doesn't help the effort to achieve racial equality, it hurts it."

I quite agree, but highly doubt Kelley and her ilk really want an honest discussion about this.

After all, if Obama hadn't have been black, he would have been far more fully vetted and scrutinized by media members, and therefore wouldn't have had a prayer of defeating Hillary Clinton in the primaries.

The Democratic nomination process would have been over by last February's Super Tuesday if Obama was a white junior senator from Illinois with the exact same qualifications and background. Even Kelley herself would likely have voted for Hillary if Obama was just another white guy from Chicago.

But folks like Kelley don't want to discuss that, for it would indeed mean that Obama was elected largely because of race.

In fact, his entire candidacy was always about race. Even former President Bill Clinton pointed it out on several occasions during the campaign.

And now that it worked and he's run into a bit of a snag as Americans come out from under the ether to recognize the absence of clothing on the man they blindly elected, Obama-loving media want him to continue to play the race card.

For her part, Kelley said that keeping quiet about racism "allows the lunatic fringe to fill the vacuum in the public debate."

Maybe so, but playing the race card allows the lunatic fringe on the left to stifle the public debate.

I highly doubt Kelley and her ilk would like to honestly discuss that either.

Oh my God...

Wouldn't this woman and ACORN's Bertha Lewis make the perfect lesbian couple?

Consider this...

It's a funny thing when the real racists are calling us racists.  What a country.

By the way, don't you just love the condescending, pompous look on her face at the top of the article.

In a way...

... blaming this idiot racists is like blaming the marionettes for the action of the puppetmasters. After 45 years of entitlement socialism, which lies at the feet of LBJ and liberal brainwashing at the hands of the NEA overlords, these fools have been trained to act like spoiled brats that bang their tippee cups on their high chairs in order to gain attention. Let them go to bed hungry.

Lord knows

Yes, everyone knows there was no racism in America before LBJ - right?

Let me say this clearly so

Let me say this clearly so there are no misunderstandings: you're full of it, Ms. Kelley.

What true conservative would have been happy about what has been going on this year if the president had been white?  The answer is that no true conservative would have been happy about it, just like the way we feel now.

“There are no easy answers' but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right.” - Ronald Reagan (1964 Republican Convention)

Stop the whinning!

If it is true (which I doubt) Obama and his team are going to have to deal with it and stop whinning!

You know...

I resent the hell out of these people for what they're doing to our country.  They will set race relations back 40 years before they're done.  God knows they're off to a very good start.

Every column, interview,

Every column, interview, article that claims racism is behind the criticism of the POTUS reinforces the the fact that the left is losing the argument. They are running scared. It is the death rattle for the left. We won.

Noel, thanks for cropping that photo

Somehow, Kelley doesn't strike me as the "quiet type."

I'm white and friggin-A straight proud of it !

  All this racial insulting

All this racial insulting by the obama loving supporters is going to make it very difficult for any other black to be elected President any time soon.  People are getting sick to death of talking and hearing about the fact he is black.

All this racial insulting

All this racial insulting by the obama loving supporters is going to make it very difficult for any other black to be elected President any time soon.

Yeah, but guess what?  Instead of pointing at themselves, they're going to blame us for that when that happens using their own spin.

Doesn't matter

They can blame whoever or whatever they want. The fact is, MidAmerica is exactly spot-on. Obama was elected by white folks, plain and simple. If white votes had been cast along purely racial lines (just like black votes were), it would have been over by 8pm EST. And Obama would have lost.

The whites who supported him will be very careful about opening themselves up to this baseless charge again. When the next black candidate loses, at least the cries of "racism" will eventually fade away.

If only Obama was white!

If President Obama was white, I'd happily support:

1. Wildly endorse the $800 Stimulus Bill that quadrupled our
deficit in six months. I’d love the fact that we have lost over 2
million jobs since the Stimulus was signed when the bill was supposed
to create jobs!

2. Love that Obama’s nominees to his cabinet were largely comprised of tax cheats…including the Secretary of the Treasury.

3. Happily endorse 34 Czars that comprise of black
militants, communists, environmental and animal rights wackos and a
anti-First Amendment czar that wants to shut down talk radio and blogs.

4. Be so proud our President apologized to the Muslim world
for all the evils and misunderstandings Americans have committed. I’d
be so happy President Whitey would re-write history to say Muslims have
contributed greatly to our country since it’s founding. I’d also be
proud he has largely ignored our allies and emboldened our enemies

5. Agree that the police across America are largely racist and, in the case of Henry Louis Gates, acted “stupidly.”

6. Support his release of Muslim terrorists from Guantanamo
while openly prosecuting the CIA and former administration that kept
Americans safe after 9/11. Oh, what a moment of pride when he refused
to prosecute Black Panthers who took weapons to a polling place to
intimidate white voters!

7. See the great leadership of a President who promised
lobbyists would be greatly curtailed but has allowed lobbyists more
access and power than ever. He also promised the most “transparent”
administration in history but has been the most obtuse.

8. Beam with pride when he shook the hand of commie tyrant
Hugo Chavez and listened to Nicararagua’s Ortega lambast the US for 50
minutes. President Whitey’s response? “I hope he doesn’t blame ME for
that? I wasn’t even born!” Statesmanship and patriotism at its highest!

9. Use taxpayer money to buy GM and then give corrupt labor
unions the lions share of voting rights. Fire the GM CEO who had been
bringing the company back and replace him with a political hack crony.

10. President Whitey would be an example to us all after
selling out our allies in Eastern Europe to Russia by killing the
missile defense. But hey, we got NOTHING out of the deal…so that makes
it better!

Those are only a short ten things I would support if President Obama
was white. But because he is black, I strongly condemn each one of
these acts. Those wily liberals have found me out!

Angry White Dude

www.angrywhitedude.c...

people don't get it

We don't care what color the dude is.  He could be teal for all we care.  It's more the fact that he is worse than Carter ever was and what country needs that?  Let Obama run the the Soviet Union, where his ideas fit in, and they would be decimated.

He has already failed... his country.

Jeff

You've said what I was thinking. Thanks.

I'm again reminded of the "Mad Magazine" cartoon picture of Alfred E. Neuman, that was captioned, "WhatMeWorry?". I would love to see Obama drawn that way bacause of his financial and other policies.

In Cleveland during his mayoral administration, an artist drew Dennis Kucinich as the character. Dennis' policies bankrupted the city which was restored to solvency by the administration of Sen. George Voinovich. The same is destined to happen to the US unless the policies promoted by Obama are stopped in their tracks. It will take years to reverse the financial devestation perpetrated on the US.

Nice list, jeff

Actually, the fact that Obama is only defended (much like he was elected) on the grounds of race merely emphasizes the point that he can't be defended on his policies.

Not even by his supporters.

"Four legs good... two legs better!" - George Orwell

You're so right.  Obama

You're so right.  Obama beat Hilary because of his race, crafted brilliant speeches because of his race and beat McCain in every debate because of his race.

Without race Obama is nothing.

Actually

Crafted 'brilliant' speeches because of his teleprompter.

"What a revoltin' development this is!"

Chester Riley

REAL racists are those who voted for Obama because he was black

Anyone who voted for Obama simply because he was black are the real racists here.

Yes, but no one did that.

Yes, but no one did that. </sarcasm>

right, the offical line is

right, the offical line is that he got elected despite being black. The truth is that he got elected because he's black. I would estimate that 1/3 of whites are reverse-racists to some degree.

RayRay

I've never liked the terms "reverse-racist" or "reverse-discrimination." It implies some unnatural form to the terms.

Racism, discrimination, prejudice, bias; these things have no direction. No one group has a lock on them. No one group is immune to them. They simply are what they are.

Besides, the term you're looking for to describe white Obama voters is "white guilt." It's a very valuable commodity for race-baiters.

"Four legs good... two legs better!" - George Orwell

White Guilt

That had to be the reason anyone would vote for Obama and Biden because anyone can plainly see that McCain and Palin - especially Palin - was the better choice.

I mean Obama ran a horrible campaign, gave terrible speeches and lost all of his debate.  Not to mention, he had TERRIBLE ideas and a terrible understanding of our nations economic situation at the time.

 Hurray, White Guilt!

I know Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and Alan Keys are like: "where was white guilt when I needed it"?

Barry

Obama is still campaigning with the same old tired platitudes about how he can be everything.

Are you saying he can't?

Are you saying he can't?  What are you, some kind of racist? :-)

No...

... if you want to see real racism, someone post the FBI's black on white crime statistics. Then, we'll have a discussion about racism.

Lets see here Ms. Kelly

So, conservatives strongly denounced and did not vote for Jimmy the idiot Carter for a second term. We voted hands down against Clinton, twice. Then, Al Gore got beat by us, and then, John Kerry...but, the Big O was able to pull white votes, including my step son; due this being "historical" and they just got caught up in it as I have been told numerous times. So, without "whitey", this idiot would not have even come close to winning. Keep trying with the racist thing though, it is really helping you gain ground with whites...<sarc>

Howard Dean

I remember a democrat candidate for  president in 2004 that went on to be DNC chairman that based his entire campaign on "  We are going to take our country back! ".  Did rather well until he went beserk and began screaming.

Liberals going to "take the

Liberals going to "take the country back?"  Yea, as if America was ever the world bastion of liberalism.  A liberal using that phrase makes no sense.

Actually, it could be said

Actually, it could be said that America was the "world bastion of liberalism."

Under the real definition of "classic" liberalism, America led the way in truly giving "power to the people," as opposed to kings, emperors and conquerers. Making the government serve the people, as opposed to vice-versa.

That's not what "liberals" are today, of course. What they are today is more properly defined as "totalitarian," or "socialististic." And often both.

So today, "liberals" are really just socialists meaning to take America over.

"Four legs good... two legs better!" - George Orwell

We were. It's why I

We were. It's why I describe myself as a 'classical liberal.' It's why you can go back to J.F.K.'s speechs and hear a lot of things that would be taken as right wing today.

Liberal comes from the Latin liberalis, meaning:

  1. Of or pertaining to freedom
  2. Dignified, honorable, befitting a freedman
  3. Generous, liberal, bountiful, ample

So tell me: who today fits that definition?

Money is no issue there. Not to mention tools like Obama, Biden, Kerry, & so on that have little NO real world experiance to draw from.

The upside to this administration is that Obama is gone, Clinton is gone, Biden is gone, at least from the Senate. They will be unable to screw things up there any more. Add to that the newest of the dead Kennedy's, that Spector & Reid may get dumped as well. This era might have a bright side to it after all.

Accuations of racism have traditionally been effective in shutting down debate. Didn't we all see this coming? I can remember watching the OJ Simpson slow car chase and remarking that his defense would be racism. This woman is an idiot. John McCain was the worst possible candidate, simply because he was the only one too feckless to pound on Jeremiah Wright and the real racist

And notice the Obama is

And notice the Obama is saying "oh no, these protests aren't about race."  He's got the Leftist media in his back pocket, so they can all decry racism while he can "appear" to be above it all.  Twenty years with Rev. Wright as his counselor, he's above none of it.

Why doesnt' he say "These

Why doesnt' he say "These protests are not about race, and I urge my supporters to stop saying that they are!   Let's elevate the debate to one of facts, not name-calling."

Re: their time is coming to an end

I agree with you, NDanielson. And I think this is the last stage before the hyperventilating left runs out of room in the outrageous things to say.

According to the brand new "Democratic Party Advisory System" (full disclosure: developed by me, not the DNC, and modelled on the Homeland Security Advisory System), we can see that charges like Raina's denote a "red" or "severe" level of Republican threat. At this rate, with her, Jimmy Carter, and Maureen Dowd going absolutely ape with their accusations--which, I believe, Americans will increasingly tune out--, there's going to be 'no place to run' in very short order to help out their declining-poll-numbers-plagued president.

....and speeches and talk.  As I said in another thread (I think), he went before Congress last week on healthcare because he literally is one of those people who thinks that if he can just talk to someone (the American people in this case), he can pull them to his way of thinking.  He literally thinks he can do that whenever he wants and get his way, as he likely has all his life.

It's like his thinking he

It's like his thinking he can just sit down and talk to terrorists.  He has an arrogant self-confidence in communication abilities, which is  almost amusing considering that he can talk and talk and not say anything.

How long will people hide behind their skin color?

as long as it pay$ to do so. why would sharpton and jackson give it up???

The last thing all these

The last thing all these people want, is for race to not be available as an issue they can use.  These same people will tell you they adore Martin Luther King, who said he had a dream of people being judged by their character, not by their skin color, are the same people who go directly at skin color as their top discussion point.

How long HAVE some of them been hiding behind skin color?

h/t to Cool Arrow, I believe.

From a column by Walter Williams:

"There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs and the hardships of the Negro race before the public.

"Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs -- partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs." - Booker T. Washington

Racism

This woman is allowed to be published only because she is black.  If a white male had written this article, it would have been criticized for the nonsense that it is.

"I'm sick of all the code words used when this subject comes up"

I'm getting tired of this "code words" nonsense.  Remember when NY Governor David Patterson made the silly comparison that Sarah Palin's mocking of "community organizer" was a mocking of black people?  It's only liberals that think there's some secret lexicon of code words issued to white, conservative men.

"I had actually been looking forward to the aftershocks of an Obama victory."

So she had actually set her mind to find racism?  She was determined to look under every single rock until she found an example of racism she could exploit?

Unfortunately racism is all about Obama.  Nobody mentions Condi Rice (who I had hoped would be considered for the VP nomination), Clarence Thomas or Michael Steele.  They have certainly suffered horrible racism from liberals.

Keep playing the card, please

"Maybe so, but playing the race card allows the lunatic fringe on the left to stifle the public debate."

Not for much longer.  Perhaps the best hope for improving race relations in this country is to encourage the likes of this woman to play the race card every five minutes, 24/7.

When people keep showing up at the protests, even if they are shamefully short of pigment in their skin, it's going to show everyone that the race card has no more power.

Racism is the last refuge of a liberal

Racism is the last refuge of a liberal [scoundrel].

And the first refuge of

Politics is showbiz for ugly people

Vicious Circle

Maybe so, but playing the race card allows the lunatic fringe on the left to stifle the public debate

And, in turn, another generation will grow up seeing racism in places where none exists.

another generation

OTOH, lots of white kids in schools are getting victimized by violent blacks, and finding that no one cares. They have to live with the results of reverse-racism that get bestowed by bigots like Chris Mathews - and they don't like it.

But the white kids from more affluent neighborhoods are very much brainwashed by reverse-racism, yes.

The racism against whites

The racism against whites that less "affluent" kids see will be with them for the rest of their lives. And, as the MSM never tires of telling us, more people live in these "less affluent" neighborhoods.

What they DON'T mention is that more white people live in these "less affluent" neighborhoods than live in the "more affluent" neighborhoods. So most of the next generation of whites will have first-hand experience with what you call "reverse" racism.

And you are correct; "they don't like it." And they will remember it. It's really too bad this was never about "equality." I think most rational people could easily accept "equality." The problem is that it became about "being on top." It became a matter of "our turn."

And it probably will create a real backlash in the next generation or so.

"Four legs good... two legs better!" - George Orwell

I'm part of that next

I'm part of that next generation. I was raised on the MLK/Jefferson "All men are created equal" and all that. Equality would be no problem, but I don't think that's what they want.

Media Elected

There are 2 presidents that are considered Media Elected. The first was Jimmy Carter. The second one is Barack Obama. We all know how successful Jimmy was.

don't combine Carter and Obama

Carter was an ineffectual boob who got elected as a counter reaction to what had come before. He had no idea how to actually do the job, but he did have the veneer of being for the "downtrodden". He messed up the whole country. He thought the US was at fault for everything, he particularlly hammered on the CIA. He was obsessed with reverse racism.

What does that have to do with Obama?  hehe

Re the power of the word

From last night, worth a repost:

Racist Claims Defuse Word's Power: http://www.msnbc.msn.com

[quote] But if everybody's racist, is anyone? The word is being sprayed in all directions, creating a hall of mirrors that is draining the scarlet R of its meaning and its power, turning it into more of a spitball than a stigma.

"It gets to the point where we don't have a word that we use to call people racist who actually are," said John McWhorter, who studies race and language at the conservative Manhattan Institute. [endquote]

Surprising, considering the source.

John McWhorter

would be the token black (who is NOT a black racist) who thankfully gets hired by the MSM. He's very sharp. I had seen him some time ago on C-Span discussing his book "Authentically Black". The theme of that book is that blacks have learned to fit in with other blacks they must resent or hate whitey, always claim to be victims of racism, defend black criminals, be a little thuggish themselves, etc.

I'd vote for McWhorter over any white liberal.

another black racist heard from

so now, on public display, more and more people can see how these people really think. Every single thing for them is about how they are constant victims. They really do claim that they get no privileges because of being black.

Eric Holder is exactly the same.

Hey, nwahs

Did you ever look at the "Halfrican" link I pointed out to you twice a couple of days ago?  You never commented on it, so I was wondering if you went to the site and read another point of view on Halfricans.

Here's the link again if you haven't seen it yet.

"Reason and persuasion are the only practical instruments against error.  To make way for these, free inquiry must be indulged" - Thomas Jefferson

Yes, I've looked at it

And you're telling me Limbaugh used it in this context? No. I'm not even going to get into that absurdity. Limbaugh used the word halfrican to appeal to bigots, not to  steer them to this documentary or the plight of African immigrants. You're telling me Halle Berry applies to this context? Thats just grasping at straws. Its but one of a long list of bigot humor Rush uses.

I watched David Duke do exactly what he's doing. I watched David Duke write off his stuff as satire too. And I listened to Rush during the Edwards/Duke governor's race. But I'm saving that until I have everyone in the boat :)

What would you do

Ok tell me what you would do if you felt someone was using sly bigotry? What I mean by sly bigotry, is lampooning black people in the worst stereotypical ways while having virtually no lampoons of other races? What would you do if you felt someone was trying to get by with that? I've already called out Al Sharpton and his "Jew interloper" crap. I've called out ACORN for their racist bullying at city council meetings. I've call our Ray "Willy Wonka" Nagin for his chocolate city comments. But I'm supposed to ignore Rush?

Sorry, no can do.

Politics is showbiz for ugly people

Nwahs - have you tried

Have you tried writing to Limbaugh about your concerns?  Maybe call him and let him know how you feel about his attitude toward black people?

Nothing you say in this forum is going to have any effect on Limbaugh or any of the other people you think you're "calling out".

All you're doing is alienating people, as you have done with me today.

Good luck.

"Reason and persuasion are the only practical instruments against error.  To make way for these, free inquiry must be indulged" - Thomas Jefferson

Sure it has an effect

When you state something publicly it has more of an effect than a private note to someone. If the opposite was true, Bozell would have emailed West and Williams about their behavior instead of publicly calling them "pigs." As far as alienating myself, if I need to be liked I'll go to a bar and buy drinks for the house.Thats the kind of friends you make by agreeing with things you don't agree with.

so tell us nwahs

What is Rush permitted to say about Obama without being a bigot? We can't comment on him being black. We can't comment on him being half white. We can't compare him to other believers in big government. We can't quote articles from LA Times. We can't do much of anything without being either racists or fearmongers.

And once again we're talking about all the invisible racists to Rush. I'm not a racist and you're not a racist, but those anonymous sprites out there are.

Nwahs is a one-trick pony who sees racism in everything he doesn't agree with.  He will always see racists everywhere he looks.

As I said above, I'm glad I don't have to see the world through his eyes.

Rush can say whatever he likes

But if its race baiting or bigotry, I get to say what I want too, and call him on it. Halle Berry is not a halfrican as used in the context of that article. Rush didn't use the term as used in that article. Rush used it as an "n word" joke. Yup, he can do that, and I can call him on it.

I can prove Raina Kelley wrong with three words:

  1. Colin
  2. Condoleezza
  3. Clarence

If Conservative "protests against President Obama are howls of rage at the fact that we have an African-American head of state" then where were the Conservative attacks on Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Clarence Thomas who were also heads of state?  Before Barak Obama, these three people were the most powerful African-Americans in US history and all of the attacks on them came from Democrats. Why was Raina Kelley silent when those three came under fire?

"Media cries of racism every time someone criticizes Barack Obama are becoming quite commonplace now,"

"I resent the hell out of these people for what they're doing to our country.  They will set race relations back 40 years before they're done."

They`ve already set back race relations 40 years, and it`s only taken them 7 months to do it.

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

Keep saying the word.

The more the left keeps using the "racist" label for any opposition, and the more they desensitize the word to the point of ambivalence or even antipathy.  Poll after poll has shown that Americans rejected the racist argument, and yet the liberals just don't get it.

Fast forward to Nancy Pelosi refusing to hand over the speaker's gavel to a Republican, while she is being cuffed and lead out by the Capitol Police for barricading herself in the speaker's office and yelling that the Democrat's defeat was due to fraud.

She belongs in an inpatient mental health ward, heavily sedated and restrained to avoid further damage to others.

We have already

We have already won.

I just hope everyone is ready to the cry of "racism!" until Jan 2013, because this is all they have left and Liberals never surrender.

Oh, No, Sistah Girl...

Oh, no, you di'int.

Ms. Kelley

Got me I admit it I'm a bigot racist I hate everybody.  So shoot me !!!

Am Equal Opportunity Bigot.

That sounds a lot like something an old friend reminded me of a few weeks ago.  We were discussing the "racist" labeling the Liberals have been using and he told me:  "I remember something you said twenty years ago."  I asked;  "What was that?"  he responded:  "You told me that you were an equal opportunity bigot because you hate all Liberals, equally.  Black, White, Pink with Purple Polka-dots, the color of their skin doesn't matter."

I do remember saying that, when Reagen was in office and the Liberals were playing the Race card on anyone who supported him.  That label annoyed me as much then as it does now, and it fits Middle America as much then as it does today.

So, I guess I'm back to being an equal Opportunity Bigot again, just like 56 percent of America.

Those that scream the loudest in a room are the weakest!!  It's those losing the issue that start the name calling.  The POTUS isn't just black, he's also white so race isn't an issue.

The career politicians are trying to divide Americans so we don't unite against them.  They represent big govt. not the people.  The issue isn't racism, but getting rid of corrupt politicians.

LIberals need their racism

Raina Kelley’s remarks are so completely over the top, I am inclined to conclude that she is fully aware that she was spinning out a provocation deliberately.  But hey, so isn’t that what liberal journalists do?  For them responsibility is an anathema.  Inside their hearts Liberals thrive on racist hatred.

When the Iron Curtain came down, the Liberals chided the Conservatives that they had lost their hate symbol.  At least the Liberals have theirs, and it looks as if they are going to nurture it forever.

- Relying upon the State Run Media for your information is like relying upon an embezzler for your portfolio management.

What is over the top...

Is the lack of regard for the truth the Right has.

I think the Right hates the truth more than anything else.

Here is the Truth:

1) Rush is your leader.

2) Palin was NOT ready for prime time.

3) Bush was a horrible President.

4) The Right is the party of "No".

5) There are SOME who oppose Obama who do so solely because of race.

6) The Right would rather Obama fail than watch the country succeed under his policies.

7) No one cares about Marxism, Socialism, Communism or any other "Ism".  Basically your who ideology smear campaign has exactly ONE victim: Van Jones.

8) The Hope and Change is working just fine.

Relativistic nonsense.

Relativistic nonsense.  You desperately need to learn the distinction between truth and opinion.

1) Prove it.  But then again, what does Rush have to do with this?

2) Your opinion.  But what does Palin have to do with this?  Oh, you must be sexist.

3) Textbook BDS.  Also, your opinion.  What does Bush have to do with this anyway?  Funny how Obama has kept many things in place that were instituted by Bush (renditions, tax cuts, FISA wiretapping accords, executive orders, etc).  But that doesn't really fit your churlish narrative, does it?  Notice I didn't say I support Bush or not, only pointing all that out to show how clueless you are.

4) Sort of like the Democrats who were the party of "No" until they gained power.  Check the records Sherlock.

5) Why don't you tell us approximately how many those people are and how you arrived at your numbers?  Then perhaps you can differentiate between "SOME" and the pundits/commentators who are telling us it's "most" if not "all".

6) If one believes a course of action to be destructive in nature, why wouldn't they want it to fail?  This isn't rocket science, so take your knee-jerk, pseudo-therapeutic group hug approach to politics back to your normal website.

7) Prove your assertion of "no one".  By bringing up Van Jones that proves your assertion utterly false.  Care to shoot yourself in the foot some more?  Here, let me help you - most people who frequent this site care about that which you claim no one does.

8) Yes, the unemployment rate is higher than Hopey Changey predicted it would be (fact), the deficit numbers have tripled (fact), the debt has increased, money has been wasted in the hundreds of billions of dollars (fact), the stimulus is barely spent yet Obama said it had to be passed now now now or else the economy would collapse (fact), his popularity has plummeted (fact), he appoints freinds, cronies, big contributors and tax cheats to political positions (fact), he has shown no bi-partisanship whatsoever (fact), and the list goes on.  All done in less than half a year.  What world is that "just fine" on?  It sure ain't this one.

Welcome aboard to our newest troll, Mr. Bonds!

Great work, G. May

That was a virtuoso demolition of "Barry Bonds." Evidently our newest troll thinks so, too, as he has done the "move-on.org" to other conversations. Great job!

Since you don't understand...

All of these were examples of reality that the Right is unwilling to acknowledge.

1) Which quantitative measure would you like me to use in order to "prove" that Rush is the leader of your party?  I guess your contention is that if I can't prove it then it must not be true.  You can be intellectually dishonest but don't expect me to be as well. Better yet, give me someone else within the party that has MORE power than Rush.  I'll wait.

2) Majority of voters in America voted AGAINST Palin so obviously it was their opinion as well.  And if her resume and interviews weren't enough proof than again you are being intellectually dishonest.

3) Obama can keep what is good and through out what is bad.  No one said all of Bush policies were inherently bad - just most of them.  The Right cries for less government intrusion and freedom but are o.k. with the Patriot Act.  I mean isn't his approval rating at the end of his career enough to show how unsuccessful he was?

4) Yep, the Dems said no to the wars, no to the Patriot Act, no to all of his deficit busting budgets, no to his drug policy, etc., etc.

5) I guess if I don't have any numbers than it must not be true.  You're right again.  Which "pundits" said "most" or "all" and what was the context?  I'll wait for the names of the pundits and the full quotes you're citing.

6) Go back and re-read my statement because you've  deliberately mischaracterized it.

7) Rubbish. In case you didn't know, "no one" is hyperbole for: a lot of people.

8) Do you have any proof regarding any of these "facts"? I'll wait.  I've noticed that most of your points are either lies, hyperbole or useless chatter.  You have no proof of the unemployment predictions, no proof of the deficit tripling in 8 months, no proof that the economy would not have collapsed without the stimulus, no proof of the waste or its origins or its reasons.  Again, I'll wait.

Since we do understand...

OK, Mr. Troll, sir, glad you came back. I thought this was going to be another dodge on your part.

1. "Which quantitative measure would you like me to use in order to 'prove' that Rush is the leader of your party?" Oh, how about just starting with one and let's go from there. Maybe an official press release from Michael Steele, a majority vote by the steering committee of the RNC. P.S. An article from the Huffington Post or Newsweek telling us some liberal thinks Rush is the leader won't cut it here.

2."Majority of voters in America voted AGAINST Palin so obviously it was their opinion as well." Review the last election again with me--I thought the top of the ticket was Barack Obama vs. John McCain? So you're telling us people were not voting for Mr. Hopey/Changey after all? No one who maybe liked Palin but couldn't stomach McCain? No one who couldn't stomach any of the choices and voted Ralph Nader or some other fringe candidate? Your claim to read minds is risible. Or maybe you are reading their hearts (although you don't allow that option to anyone on the right)?

3. "Obama can keep what is good and through [sic] out what is bad." Awfully funny. No, I don't mean your use of "through" for "throw," I mean the fact that although one of his talking points during the campaign was that McCain would be "Bush's third term," Obama himself in many ways represents a continuation of Bush. Who says so, some right-wingers? Um, no, try Mother Jones magazine. Not too much "change we can believe in" going on there, right? G. May made that point to you very effectively, but maybe if you read it in the linked liberal publication, you might not be able to breeze by what he said so easily.

4. "Yep, the Dems said no to the wars, no to the Patriot Act, no to all of his deficit busting budgets, no to his drug policy, etc., etc." See above re: Obama being Bush's 3rd term. And isn't it funny that all the people who when W was president said they wanted to "stop the war now" because of all our soldiers dying are all okie-dokie with O considering the sending of more troops into Afghanistan. I guess Obama decided not to "through out what is bad" on that one.

5. "I guess if I don't have any numbers than [sic] it must not be true." OK, if you say so. I thought maybe you'd bring out some of those "quantitative measure[s]" you spoke of above, but if you just pulled this out from your hind-quarters, I guess I understand your reluctance!

6. "Go back and re-read my statement because you've deliberately mischaracterized it." Um, no, I don't think G. May did. You wrote, "The Right would rather Obama fail than watch the country succeed under his policies." G. May replied that "If one believes a course of action to be destructive in nature, why wouldn't they want it to fail?" Very clearly you were tying into the whole criticism of Rush Limbaugh's "I hope he fails," and G. May's answer implies the further point that there is a difference between this president having his bad policies fail and the country itself failing--although liberals like yourself understandably want to conflate the two in order to make anyone who says what Rush said somehow un-American. If you think G. May misunderstood you, maybe the real problem is you failed to articulate what you really meant to say.

7. "Rubbish. In case you didn't know, 'no one' is hyperbole for: a lot of people." Nice retreat after G. May nailed you on your Van Jones overstatement. And thanks for confessing you indulged in hyperbole, which actually marks most of what you've blathered in this forum. You say something dumb, like you did about Jones; you get destroyed on it, like you did by G. May; and then you offer a substance-free rejoinder that admits your tendency to hyperbole. No wonder Georgia Girl came to the conclusion, "Wow, you really are an act."

8. "Do you have any proof regarding any of these 'facts'? I'll wait." Man, do you ever have chutzpah--or maybe it's gall--after your implosion on the above Van Jones point, and especially after your original, hysterically funny statement "The Hope and Change is working just fine"! Nevertheless, to keep you from having to "wait," let's restate G. May's paragraph on this with some added reading for you to enjoy, in the way of "proof" regarding these "facts":

Yes, the unemployment rate is higher than Hopey Changey predicted it
would be (fact), the deficit numbers have tripled (fact), the debt has
increased, money has been wasted in the hundreds of billions of dollars
(fact), the stimulus is barely spent yet Obama said it had to be passed
now now now or else the economy would collapse (fact), his popularity
has plummeted (fact), he appoints freinds, cronies, big contributors
and tax cheats to political positions (fact), he has shown no
bi-partisanship whatsoever (fact), and the list goes on.  All done in
less than half a year.  What world is that "just fine" on?  It sure
ain't this one.

One last thing. You said of G. May: "I've noticed that most of your points are either lies, hyperbole or useless chatter." While in my opinion untrue, that claim is cute, but since you've admitted to hyperbole yourself--and have quite a few instances of unacknowledged "lies" and "useless chatter" as well--I'm not following just what you object to.

Oh, I guess you only object to the Right doing that kind of stuff. Evidently when you do it to others, it's just fine.

The Real America - Conflation Nation

If Rush is not your leader please tell me who within your party has more influence and power over the constituents.  And please try not to make me laugh.

So Palin wasn't selected to potentially change the trajectory of the McCain campaign?  Yes, she was, and again, most of the country rejected her.  I have to admit she changed the trajectory BUT it simply wasn't enough. In different company you will say that Palin was one of the most consequential Vice President candidates in history. For this argument sake, not so much.

If you truly considered, with any seriousness, Obama as Bushs third term you would not have such a consistently abhorrent rejection of Obama as a President by the Right Wing.  So let's consider your claim more hat than cattle.

So you disagree with Afghanistan being the true focus of the "War on Terror?"  Which target do you consider more vital, if not Afghanistan, in this war? Me thinks I already know the answer to this question.

In re #6: The statement is pretty clear.  You understood exactly what I was saying and yet you take the position that I wasn't clear enough.  Go ahead and carry water for Rush, sure we conflate on our side especially when given such a beautiful gift, but don't act as if Rush doesn't deserve the ridicule. He is a crass, disgusting, liar who misleads millions of people for MONEY!  I guess you guys like that kind of stuff since that is what Bush did so well for so long. "Some call you the elite - I call you my base." Utterly disgusting.

Yes, I sometimes use hyperbole.  And your point?

Hey, if you catch me in a lie I suggest you point it out.  If you think I am giving you useless chatter do what I do - ignore it.

I am not your mother so I won't be guiding you through life showing you what is right and wrong.  You have to determine that for yourself and you have to decide if you are going to do right or do wrong.  Don't look to me to be your personal role model.  And because I do something doesn't mean it is right when you do it.

Barry's misdirections

Dear Mr. Bondage, thank you for returning. I am sorry you weren't waiting when I came back and that I had to embarrass you to make you return.

Bondage: "If Rush is not your leader please tell me who within your party has
more influence and power over the constituents.  And please try not to
make me laugh."

Misdirection #1: Your original statement was this--"Here is the Truth: 1) Rush is your leader." Your next statement was "Which quantitative measure would you like me to use in order to 'prove' that Rush is the leader of your party?" I asked for you to start with one. Should I take your attempt to turn the question around as a concession that you have nothing--no "quantitative measure," no support, not even a press release from the liar David Brock's Media Matters? Oh, and don't give me the "Google is your friend" routine you tried on motherbelt when you wanted her to look up your claims because you were too lazy to do so. That really would "make me laugh." Just let us know that "Here is the Truth" was hyperbole for "Here is Barry's asinine opinion."

Bondage: "So Palin wasn't selected to potentially change the trajectory of the
McCain campaign?  Yes, she was, and again, most of the country rejected
her."

Misdirection #2: I refer you again to what you actually said: "Majority of voters in America voted AGAINST Palin so obviously it was their opinion as well." You seem to be unable to grasp the simple fact that a vote that was not for McCain/Palin does not necessarily equate to a vote "AGAINST" Palin. As I previously indicated, there would have necessarily been all kinds of other factors involved, as there are in all elections. But perhaps this was another hyperbole you are now sliding away from.

Bondage: "If you truly considered, with any seriousness, Obama as Bushs third
term you would not have such a consistently abhorrent rejection of
Obama as a President by the Right Wing.  So let's consider your claim
more hat than cattle."

Misdirection #3a: Who exactly is "you" in the above? As someone once said, "you don't know anyone's heart." How do you know what I'd think of "Bush's third term" if it really happened? You seem to understand your danger because you slide away from making "you" equal me by adding the last four words to your sentence: "by the Right Wing." Writing that sloppy, Barry, would have gotten you the stern disapproval of your high school English teacher.

Misdirection #3b: Since it's you who considered Bush abhorrent ("No one said all of Bush policies were inherently bad - just most of them"), showing the Left (Mother Jones) calling Obama's opening months "Bush's third term" sufficiently calls into question your thinking. Whether or not I agree in every point with their analysis misses the point: you guys wanted Obama because he was not Bush, so if he turns out to be Bush even most of the time, your "Hope/Change" is essentially destroyed.

Bondage: "So you disagree with Afghanistan being the true focus of the 'War on Terror?'"

Misdirection #4/Distortion #1: How do you get there from here? Please explain where I said in any forum that "Afghanistan is not the true focus of the War on Terror." Or is your claim "more hat than cattle" (whatever that means)?

Bondage: "In re #6: The statement is pretty clear.  You understood exactly what I
was saying and yet you take the position that I wasn't clear enough..."
[Blathers into irrelevant diatribe about Rush.]

Misdirection #5: Now you're back to knowing people's hearts. If both myself and G. May understood your statement in a certain way, it's on you if you don't want to make it any clearer--or maybe you just can't because you know you were nailed. And when you say something like "sure we conflate on our side especially when given such a beautiful gift," sounds to me a lot like 'sure, we get sloppy and distort Rush into saying something he never said if it helps us win an argument.' Feel free to explain if that's another example of you not being clear enough. I'll wait.

Bondage: "Yes, I sometimes use hyperbole.  And your point?"

My point is that when you object to it in other people ("most of your points are either lies, hyperbole, or useless chatter"), you're using a different standard for yourself than you do for anyone else. Just a little fundamental inconsistency on your part. Guess it doesn't bother you, though. Which says a lot.

Bondage: "I am not your mother so I won't be guiding you through life showing you what is right and wrong."

Thank goodness! But thanks for the attempted life lesson anyway ("You have to determine that for yourself and you have to decide if you are going to do right or do wrong.  Don't look to me to be your personal role model....") I really don't know where all that came from, but--if it's not too offensive for me to pretend to know your heart--, I appreciate what I presume was the intent!

Wow.

All of that to say nothing.

While I appreciate your critique you still have yet to answer my questions.  I understand why, if you choose not to.

It's called "sailing over your head"

Sorry you didn't realize that your credibility has just been demolished one (G. May), two (moi), and three (moi again) times just above--not to mention all the meritorious contributions from Unsane, Georgia Girl, motherbelt, R D Helm, and many many others.

Maybe when you recover your reading comprehension, you can address all the facts that you asked for and I gave you and for which you have, to date, no response other than schoolyard taunts.

Otherwise, in case you didn't notice, this is another example of you being PWNED and no longer worth serious argument. No need to thank me for pointing out something so obvious.

Again, the questions stand

Again, the questions stand on their own merit so my "credibitlity" has nothing to do with it.  You won't answer the questions because you don't have the courage.

Keep telling yourself otherwise.

Again, it sails over your head

You're right about one thing: your questions--asked once you couldn't support your own statements like "Which quantitative measure would you like me to use in order to 'prove' that Rush is the leader of your party?" (you have yet to prove even one as requested)--do stand on their own "merit," or in this case lack thereof.

Your rhetoric is an empty bag--no substance inside.

Ta-ta, Troll.

P.S. You also misspelled credibility. No need to thank me for pointing it out.

PT is back ?

2) Majority of voters in America voted AGAINST Palin so obviously it
was their opinion as well.  And if her resume and interviews weren't
enough proof than again you are being intellectually dishonest.

Ah, Poptech.  I was wondering when you would sneak back in.

Still pushing the revisionist history that Palin was running against Obama, not McCain running against Obama?  LOL!

"President Obama is learning on the job and it shows."  --Boris Epshteyn

So are you saying Palin was

So are you saying Palin was inconsequential to the ticket?

She wasn't picked to shake things up for McCain?

She didn't "energize" the party?

Her experience wasn't compared to Obamas and considered to be greater and more valuable to the Right?

yo, BB

you forgot to add the "/sarc".

No Ms Kelley

I am against Obama's Marxist policies.

Being a "black" Marxist has nothing to do with it.

Get over your color and use your brain. THINK for yourself for a change.

Our president is a MARXIST and that should scare the hell out of you regardless of YOUR color or HIS color.

Give me a break.

Black Marxists

I think it works the exact opposite with liberals though.

"I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them."

ms kelly and co.

Ms. Kelly and co. seem to have missed the point.....again. There is racism in this country and it is poison. When you label all opposing views as racist, you  enhance the poison. Say it too often and then no one listens any longer. Poison wins.

I've noticed that the Right..

Cannot read or listen.

She like President Carter said: "SOME". Emphasis added.

Since when did "some" come to equal "all"?

all

all  .....   opposing views. Those that follow blindly, like sheep, simply because he is black, well.....they aren't racist.

Clever.

So you've decided that you will hear "all" even though she said "some".  Also, you can read the quote attached to the story.  It also says "some".

Welcome to NewsBusters, Troll

As I am the official troll greeter here at NB, I just want to welcome
you to our ranks, and let you know that I intend to make your stay here
with us (no matter how brief it may be) as pleasant as I possibly can.

For your future convenience, I just want to point out that most of
those you will encounter here at NB are right highly educated, or at
least possess intelligence far above the national average (which, once
translated, means many of us here were, unlike you, were not educated in
government schools, run by Postal Service rejects)

Take your best shots, Gomer, but your claiming no one here reads
won't cut it, as most Obama supporters can neither read, nor write
coherently.

Please be sure and PM me should you require further assistance, as I am always happy to assist the government educated who dwell among us, and who require government permission to takes a dump, and still want to force others, at gunpoint, to pay for the toilet paper.

-Dave

I agree with Rush. It's time for Obama to resign.

Profound.

You, telling me about your "intelligence" is probably your first of many great fails.

Personally, because the Right is on the wrong side of so many issues it rarely takes a person of any intelligence to run circles around your arguments.  This racism issue is a prime example: you guys are wrong and a blind and dead man can see that.

Self-loathing Troll, I bet your ass is toast by Monday

I just hope I will be the toaster.

-Dave

I agree with Rush. It's time for Obama to resign.

Oh...

I was wondering why the comments were consistently droll.

Anyone who doesn't agree is purged.

Do you think I really care? I'll just go to the other "conservative" websites and tear apart their arguments.  And you will be stuck in your echo chamber thinking you're taking over the world.

Barry

tear apart their arguments.

I can see you are going to be one of the more amusing Trolls.

To our new angry Leftist

I'll just go to the other "conservative" websites and tear apart their arguments.  And you will be stuck in your echo chamber thinking you're taking over the world.  Which is funny, because just running around saying "You're wrong!" and sitting back and claiming you will tear apart Rightist arguments doesn't mean one damn thing.  If anything, you are showing that Leftists are coddled by the news media and the elite.  If they weren't, they might make for better debaters, because they would be forced to think through their arguments and come up with some reasoning for them.  But since the Left IS in fact coddled, they can't debate very effectively.

I really don't understand

I really don't understand your point.  If there are two sides of an issue and you have one being right and the other being wrong then it is obvious that most people are going to side with the "right" guy in most cases. Simply: the Left is right on most issues and therefore most people lean Left while claiming to be not "Right" but conservative.

"President Obama is

"President Obama is learning on the job and it shows."  --Boris Epshteyn

Vomiting propaganda

Simply: the Left is right on most issues and therefore most people lean Left while claiming to be not "Right" but conservative.  This is so fallacious it is laughable.  Either prove your assertion, or just admit you are all wet.

Vomiting propaganda is not a substitute for intellectual discourse and critical thinking, as much as you think it is.

"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)

Obama is President with a

Obama is President with a clearly Left agenda in a country where polls show that most people are conservative.

 Is that "proof" enough?

 (Wow, that was easy.)

0 is

president because he convinced the people who voted for him that he was a "centrist".  They didn't do their homework, in part, because the state run media refused to vette him, even as they ran unconfirmed stories of an alleged McCain affair.  And about 96% of one group voted for him because he looked like that group, not because of his policies, positions or ideas.

When did O say, anywhere during the campaign, that he was a "clearly Left" candidate?

Keep telling yourself that.

Keep telling yourself that.  Maybe your group will be able to pull ... wait...McCain did try that trick but we saw right through him.  And of course, Fox News and the entire Right Wing let Obama get elected without him being asked even one "tough" question.  You guys were slipping as they say in the hood.

And you're right about that group.  They usually break strong for the other side but for some reason they didn't this time.  I am sure it had EVERYTHING to do with his look.  Yep, there was never even a question if he had enough of the look.  It was always assumed that his look was sufficient.

You can try and marginalize the President and his constituents all you want but it will gain you no new members.  Personally, I hope you guys keep running the same play the entire game.  It's a losing strategy but you guys are so good at it you won't switch even though many of you know that you should.  You are a victim of your own (past) success.

Funny, how Florida went from being a red state to a blue state.  Makes me wonder if Florida ever was red in the first place.

Personally, I thank George Bush and his policies for giving us President Obama.  Had he not screwed over the ENTIRE country we would be saying hello to McCain/Lieberman. Yuck!  But I also have to give credit to Obama he had to run the PERFECT campaign in order to make it happen.  You guys almost screwed the pooch again. But you didn't and we ALL are going to be the better for it.

Counterpoint

(His Majesty The Shahinshah) is President with a clearly Left agenda in a country where polls show that most people are conservative.  Except for one thing.  His Majesty The Shahinshah did not run as a Leftist.  Had He run as the Statist/Socialist you so adore, we'd all be bitching about President McCain.

That pretty much blows that argument straight to hell.

(Wow, now THAT was easy!)

"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)

Only in the minds of the

Only in the minds of the Right did Obama NOT run as someone on the Left.

I like the way you guys all keep telling the same lie.

Let's see...were any of these apart of Obamas campaign:

National Healthcare. Check!

More Taxes for the rich. Check!

More entitlement programs. Check!

More government. Check!

Seems pretty Left leaning to me... but I am sure you will provide more information which shows that he was no where near the Left.

I hate to disappoint...

I knew He was a Leftist, which is why I voted against Him.  I knew this and so did others.  His "packaging" suggested otherwise.

Sorry, sweetie, he said that He would reduce taxes for 95% of Americans.  That is running on the Right.  Many people voted for Him thinking they were getting Clinton ca. 1995-2001.  What they forgot was that Clinton was restrained by G_______, and later Hastert.

I know that you are deeply aching for this country to be a bunch of Statists/Socialists like you, but it isn't the case.  If so that whole agenda would have been passed by 1 July.  It hasn't been.  not only hasn't it been passed, but these ideas have been countered by a mass movement which has (so far) culminated in a march on Washington, which, regardless of numbers, is impressive considering that those participating in the march are the absolute worse revolutionaries on earth.

Why is this?

"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)

Welcome Barry

We are juiced to see you here, I am glad to see that you can inject your liberal ideology on this site. I  hope your stay here test positive.

"I swear sometimes the self-appointed moral police are as obnoxious and demanding of big government interference as "environmentalist" gun control advocates, labor unions and trial lawyers"~fitzfong

That explains it

"This racism issue is a prime example: you guys are wrong and a blind and dead man can see that."

Thanks so much for this helpful explanation, Mr. Troll! That must be why the deceased so overwhelmingly vote Democrat.

So, where did this troll come from?

Ya see, barry, "some", "all", it don't matter. Why is is left, and yes the blacks, in this country continue to use race as a crutch?

I take that back. I know damn well why the left uses, but why would blacks willingly enslave themselves to the democrats, over and over, by using the race card? Has it really gotten them anywhere these past 40-50 years? Think about it, and you will see who the real racists are, and it ain't the right.

"If the man, with the power, can't keep it under control...some heads are gonna roll." -Judas Priest

Crutch of Reality

I don't know which reality you're living in but blacks do very well under Democrat Presidents and poorly under Reagan and Bush I & II.

Personally, I've seen the writing on the wall.  The Right is like most high on rhetoric and low on substance.  Your leader is Rush "Barack the Magic Negro" Limbaugh.  Oh, I know he was "quoting" someone but I doubt he is internally conflicted when repeating the "quote".

I've heard your argument before and I am not impressed.  There is NOTHING the Right has to offer any minority besides lip service.

When the Right learns to RESPECT themselves and be true to most humans principles than you will see your numbers increase.  Then you can cry: "Why not us?"  Until then you will continue to marginalize yourself among honorable, thoughtful adults.

Instead of wondering why someone is playing the "race card" wonder why your group is calling the President Hitler.  Wonder why Fox stands by a guy who calls the President a racist.  Wonder why people are suddenly NOW worried about the deficit three months after the last guy left office and gave us record debt.  What was that defining moment between Bush leaving office and the first "Tea Parties"?  Wonder why Fox keeps lying to you people day after day and without apology.

Well Barry

Unless your a reincarnation of ACTs or Keith, I'm going to assume you are new here. I am not a Republican or Democrat, I am a independent voter that sees faults in both parties.

I can honestly say the cries of racism are bogus. Yes racism exist, but if someone calls the President a liar, it might not be the right thing to do, but it certainly is not racist. The people that are protesting are the same ones that put a Black man as chairman of Republican party. The former Secretary of State was a Black woman and the one before that was Black man.

Seriously, can you back up your claim or racism? Please stay on topic and not talk about George Bush, he has been gone for 9 months now.

"I swear sometimes the self-appointed moral police are as obnoxious and demanding of big government interference as "environmentalist" gun control advocates, labor unions and trial lawyers"~fitzfong

No, you can't "honestly" say

No, you can't "honestly" say cries of racism are bogus because you don't know anyone heart.

And no, the general comments regarding racism is based in knowing peoples heart but simply based on statistics or common sense if you will.

For you putting a black man as the head of the Republican Party and there being SOME racist in the party is mutually exclusive.  For me, not so much.

You're basing your comments on a false argument.  No one said all Republicans are racist.

Good, carry water for George Bush - he shouldn't be responsible for his actions.  I guess Obama should be the only one held responsible for George Bush's actions.

I don't know what "claim or racism" you're referring to.

Barry your right

I don't know what is in someones heart, but neither do you and far left liberals and if someone calls the President a liar, or if there is a tea party, the accusation is hardly ever people are unhappy with his policies, it is almost always racism, which is a bunch on baloney.

Also, I was never a fan of George Bush and I was one of the people on this site that always mentioned the national debt, but it does not bother you that Obama's stimulus cost more than both wars combined and he spend it in two months?  Our budget deficit looks horrendous,  The unemployment is still very high and gas is just as expensive as when George Bush was in power, do you honestly think Obama is doing a good job?

"I swear sometimes the self-appointed moral police are as obnoxious and demanding of big government interference as "environmentalist" gun control advocates, labor unions and trial lawyers"~fitzfong

Go do some research because

Go do some research because you're wrong on a lot of points.

The stimulus is a necessity and it isn't all spent.  And no, national debt doesn't bother me.  What bothers me is people not having jobs, not having homes and not having health care.  I could care less about the national debt.

Sorry, but not only do I think he is doing a good job, but MOST Americans think he is doing a good job.  But forget about me, and my standards.  How do you gauge a Presidents success or failure?  Be careful how you answer this one.

You don't care? Others do, fortunately

The stimulus is a necessity and it isn't all spent.  And no, national debt doesn't bother me.  What bothers me is people not having jobs, not having homes and not having health care.  I could care less about the national debt.  You might not, but history does.  Last century there were two countries that guaranteed people jobs, housing and health care.  The jobs were...adequate, I guess, but neither country progressed economically or otherwise.  And everyone had crappy homes and crappier health care, while a privileged elitel lorded it over the rest of the two countries.

Both the Soviet Union and East Germany went broke doing all of this and failed so miserably that they both vanished into the history books.  You may not care about the national debt, because to you, government is here to baby you regardless of cost...but rest assured, I do, millions of other voters do, and history does.

If you want health care so badly, do what I do.  Go out and pay for it yourself.  I do not need a doctor every day, but I DO need food every single day, yet I get along just fine paying for the food as I need it.  Same with water, clothing and shelter - ALL things I need way before a doctor.  So, why can't you leave me the hell alone to pay for my doctor, when I need one???

Sorry, but not only do I think he is doing a good job, but MOST Americans think he is doing a good job.  But forget about me, and my standards.  How do you gauge a Presidents success or failure?  Be careful how you answer this one.  I'm not a fan of polls but many give the lie to the first sentence.  And as for gauging a President's success or failure?  Easy.  Wait until enough people are dead.  That is a question to be determined by generations yet to be born.

"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)

Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc

Your statement is a prime example of a post hoc fallacy.

Do you think it makes any sense that a person work 40 hours a week for 5 years but still can't afford to buy a house?  Do you think it makes any sense to pay $1,000 to be seen by a doctor, be given a knee brace, crutches and  one pain pill?

You hate the government but without it you'd be in a worst situation than you know.  You should thank the government and the people who work for it but you disparage them on a daily basis to make a point that no one is arguing.

I don't walk in your shoes and you don't walk in my shoes but you want me to live my life as you do.  How presumptuous is that?  It's that arrogance that has turned off so many people to your hypocritical party.

Wow, can you see the hypocrisy in your last statement?

Forgive me for not having

Forgive me for not having your vast mental capacity, but I fail to see an example of post hoc ergo propter hoc in his statement. Nor do I see an example of the often confused yet subtly different cum hoc ergo propter hoc.

I assume you mean that the fallacy is in the analysis of East Germany and the Soviet Union, but I see no fallacy there. Both were countries with socialist systems providing food, shelter and jobs to their people, and the problems in both countries with these are well documented.

The form of socialism practiced by the countries of the Warsaw Pact hinged on the conversion of the rest of the world to their system, and bankrupted themselves trying to not only provide everything for all their people, but maintaining a military to subjugate the free world. Why? Because their 'worker's paradise' with everything provided couldn't compete with a system like that of the United States.

Don't be too sad, though - they got one of their wishes. Germany was reunited - as a capitalist country.

Since you are going to be

Since you are going to be this guys Superman, show me the data which supports your claim that the Soviet Union and East Germany failed solely because they were socialist countries.

The reunited Germany is a "capitalist" country with a socialist healthcare system.  I guess they are only going to be half failures this time.

Reading list

Since you are going to be this guys Superman, show me the data which supports your claim that the Soviet Union and East Germany failed solely because they were socialist countries.  Go read Frederick Taylor's Berlin Wall.  It goes into great detail as to how East Germany was going broke when the Wall came down.

There is yet another piece of evidence.  The Berlin Wall itself.  If everything was so great in East Germany, if everyone loved being totally babied by the government, with their jobs, their housing, and MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL (how humanity has surviied 6000 yeards without this I have no idea), "free" health care - why was Operation Rose initiated in August 1961?

For the Soviet Union, check out The Black Book of Communism.  Geoffrey Hosking (sp?) argues for the awakening of Russian national consciousness as the reason the Soviet Union fell in Rulers and Victims: The Russians in the Soviet Union, but he makes plenty of compelling economic arguments as well.  You may also want to check out The President, The Pope, and the Prime MinisterThe Struggle For Europe by William Hitchcock will also make some compelling arguments for both the downfall of the Soviet Union and East Germany.

Happy reading.

The reunited Germany is a "capitalist" country with a socialist healthcare system.  I guess they are only going to be half failures this time.  Germany is already showing signs of slippage.  The Economist has indicated that they are the world's fourth largest economy.  I always have heard them mentioned as second- or third- largest before.  In addition, the health care system in Germany is slightly different: if you make less than 48, 000 euros a year, the German government will coddle and baby you with "free" health care.  (How free it can be with their tax rates around 55-60% I have no idea.)  If you make more than 48,000 euros a year: too bad.  Get your own.

In any case, I have no interest in emulating Germany because they are Going Nowhere.

By the way, Foreign Policy in July/August 2007 had a discussion of Europe in their "Think Again" segment, where they shoot down popular fallacies.  In response to a sentiment you doubtless agree with, "Europe Provides The World's Best Health Care" (Unsane's note: Health care is an open compound.  I refuse to type it as a closed compound even if everyone else around me does.  Including Foreign Policy), the author, a Mr. Clive Crook, says:

"Not really.  A popular fallacy in the United States is that, when it comes to health care, Europe offers a single universal coverage alternative to the predominantly private U.S. system.  In fact, Europe has as many different health care systems as it does countries.

"True, the United States's system is an outlier because of its reliance on private insurance.  But Europe's systems offer no single, plainly superior substitute.  Rather, theyrepresent a bewildering array of very different, ever changing, and frequently unpopular models.  Britain combines a single-payer, universal access National Health Service with an extensive and rapidly growing private-insurance system, which sprang up because of discontent over standards in the state sector.  The share of private spending runs higher in France, Germany, and Italy, and approaches 40 percent in the Netherlands.  Competition, control, and cost-sharing vary widely as well: single-payer, multipayer, centralized, decentralized, and everything in between.  This endless variety proves the difficulty of getting health care right.  The issue is a political battleground almost everywhere.

"If you have insurance, the U.S. system provides you with world-class health care at a high price.  (Unsane's note: I don't have insurance and have no problems accessing health care when I need it.)  Does any European country offer a system that is both feasible and plainly preferable to for the insured majority?  The answer is no.  By common consent, the French system is among the best: expensive (though cheaper than the U.S. option); universally accessible, with plenty of patient and doctor autonomy, good results on standard measures, and it's popular to boot.  What's not to like?  Well, ask a French doctor or two when they return from their protest march.  They're paid a third of what American doctors make.  The French system with American salaries would be unaffordable."

Thing is

Thing is moron, for you to live the way you want to (get free govt healthcare) everyone else has to be forced to do it that way too.

That's what people have figured, out and it drives you Liberals crazy.

"President Obama is learning on the job and it shows."  --Boris Epshteyn

Where do I begin?

Your statement is a prime example of a post hoc fallacy.  This statement is a prime example of you not knowing what the hell you are talking about and tossing out words and phrases like candy in a bid to make yourself sound much smarter than you really are.

To wit:

Do you think it makes any sense that a person work 40 hours a week for 5 years but still can't afford to buy a house?  Sure.  It is called "very poor financial management skills".  What, is there a law someplace which states that because I work for 40 hours a week for five years that I have a right to a house?  Can I just walk up to a realtor in this country and demand a house?  I've been working in one form or another almost continuously for 19 years.  Now, if you have a job and you are working 40 hours a week for 5 years, and you couple that with working hard, getting raises and promotions, AND oh by the way, learning how to rub two nickels together (saving and investment), you can get a house.  But if you can't...well, that's not my problem.

There are people who make six figures a year and can't rub two nickels together because they manage their money extremely poorly.  There are people who get by and are building up assets making far less than that.  I suggest you read The Millionaire Next Door and The Millionaire Mind sometime.  It may shock you.

Do you think it makes any sense to pay $1,000 to be seen by a doctor, be given a knee brace, crutches and  one pain pill?  Absolutely!  Res quantum valet quantum vendi potest.

You hate the government but without it you'd be in a worst situation than you know.  You should thank the government and the people who work for it but you disparage them on a daily basis to make a point that no one is arguing.  Huh?  Government is a necessary evil.  Nothing more, nothing less.  There is a reason they have a limited set of things to do as set forth in the Constitution.  Nowhere does it say that the government is here to baby you.  Now, there are things there that allow the government to protect your property, with things like a military and laws pertaining to the protection of commerce and business (copyright comes to mind).  But this is not a license for them to baby you with things you can manage to get on your own.

I don't walk in your shoes and you don't walk in my shoes but you want me to live my life as you do.  Really?  You scream at me an accusation of hypocrisy at the end of this post, yet this sentence is total hypocrisy on your part.  You need to stop projecting and accusing me of what you routinely do.  You would love nothing more than to stick a gun in my face and steal, steal , and steal from me, and from others, for things you can really manage to get all on your own.  Worse, YOU are too chicken to do the stealing.  You want to hire the government to do it FOR you, using the force of law.  Sounds like to me you want to FORCE me to live my life the way you want me to.   How presumptuous is that?  It's that arrogance that has turned off so many people to your hypocritical party.  What party do I belong to?  Can you answer that question?  And you dare bitch at ME about being presumptuous?

Wow, can you see the hypocrisy in your last statement?   This question from a self-righteous Statist/Socialist who cannot see the hypocrisies in his own post.  Pathetic.

You should be warned.  I don't suffer fools very well.

The Strawman Cometh.

Why can't you simply answer the questions?  Why do you have to interject arguments no one else is making in order to support your position?

Does it make sense was my question.  You couldn't answer the question so you gave us non-sense.

Here I will help you out.  No, it doesn't make any sense for someone to go to work 40 hours a week and still have to rent an apartment or live with relatives.  No it doesn't make sense for people to have to pay inflated prices because of insurance.  No, it's not what "they" are willing to pay its what the insurance companies are willing to pay for their own selfish reasons.

You notice the governments roll in protecting property and commerce but you can't see how helping out poor people is doing exactly that.  Sorry, but it only makes sense for the government to help out the lesser of us in times of need.  Also, studies show that families are better off when owning a home compared to renting.

How have I encouraged or mandated that you live like me?  You told me to go out and buy insurance if I wanted healthcare so bad, as you do.  So tell me how I have told you to live your life.  I'll wait.

Your hyperbole is getting out of control.  I could care less about what you have and I would never pick up a gun to get it.

You call the tax structure stealing.  Well, if you don't like it why don't you change it.  Why don't you come up with a better solution for getting the dirty work done here in the US.  Do you have any ideas?

If you're not a part of the Right Wing you sure do represent them well.

This is boring.  You are all over the place and you're filled with rhetoric.  I am not going to continue to rebuff all of your strawman arguments.

More fish in a barrel

This is boring.  You are all over the place and you're filled with rhetoric.  I am not going to continue to rebuff all of your strawman arguments.  The projecting here is unreal.  You are the one who is all over the place, vomiting constantly in your bid to justify your Statism/Socialism.  Instead of constantly accusing me of what you routinely have been doing here, you may want to confront my counterarguments squarely.

Why can't you simply answer the questions?  Why do you have to interject arguments no one else is making in order to support your position?  I did answer your questions.  The problem is that you don't like the answers as they are NOT what you want to hear, so you are throwing a temper tantrum.

Here I will help you out.  By arguing with your heart, not your brain.  This doesn't work with me. No, it doesn't make any sense for someone to go to work 40 hours a week and still have to rent an apartment or live with relatives.  Um, yes it does.  My sisters have had to resort to that in their younger days because they were LOSERS.  When they decided to stop beign losers, this ended.  Amazing, isn't it?  I would suggest your problem is less with the amount of money people make and more with the fact that you want a no-fault existence; a world where such silly concepts as "responsibility" and "freewill" are things of the past.  If someone is workign 40 hours a week and still living with relatives, i would suggest they either learn how to manage their money or nget a better job.  You need to learn to stop blaming other people for their problems.    No it doesn't make sense for people to have to pay inflated prices because of insurance.  So, since you are the self-appointed expert on the economy, why don't you tell me what the insurance companies are supposed to be charging.  Who determines the prices for...well, anything?  YOU?  A bunch of Socialists like you?  You need to learn a lot more about the price mechanism.  May I suggest Basic Economics by Dr. Thomas Sowell? No, it's not what "they" are willing to pay its what the insurance companies are willing to pay for their own selfish reasons.   I love selfishness.  Selfishness is what makes capitalism and the economy great.  Selfishness, like what you decry constantly, is the reason this country, and not countries that baby people like you want, is basically doing ALL of the medical advancement in the world. Eighty-five percent of ALL the world's medical discoveries happen right here in the United States.  ALL because of the evil selfishness you so decry.

I'd submit that it is YOU who is truly beign selfish by constantly demanding the government steal from me and millions of others to pay for something you can manage to get all by yourself.

You notice the governments roll in protecting property and commerce but you can't see how helping out poor people is doing exactly that.  When the government "helps the poor", it consists of paying them to stay poor.  If I want to help the poor, I give to charity.  Sorry, but it only makes sense for the government to help out the lesser of us in times of need.  No, it only makes sense for you to get off your ass and help the poor YOUR OWN DAMN SELF.  Since you weep so painfully many tears of guilt for "the poor", I'd suggest you need to get off of your ass and start a charity of your own, or go volunteer. Stop demanding the government be turned into the United Way because you are too lazy for charity.  Also, studies show that families are better off when owning a home compared to renting.  So what?  I'd be better off if I owned a home, but I'm not running around with my hands out begging people to help me.  I am helping myself and will. Your job is to stay the hell out of the way and watch me make it happen.

Tell you what: you show me where it specifically states in the Constitution that the government needs to provide homes to people.

How have I encouraged or mandated that you live like me?  You told me to go out and buy insurance if I wanted healthcare so bad, as you do.  So tell me how I have told you to live your life.  I'll wait.  Let's see: your caterwauling for a Socialist Nanny State.  In your last paragraph, you indicate that it's the government's job to coddle and baby poor people.  Hence, you are demanding that I fork over more tax money to the government for YOUR guilt, when giving to charity, voluntarily, works infinitely better.  YOU are demanding that the government provide health care to everybody and you do not care about the national debt.  Just those two proposals of yours alone directly involves me and is a command from YOU to ME about how to live MY life and spend MY hard-earned money.

Your hyperbole is getting out of control.  I could care less about what you have and I would never pick up a gun to get it.  Oh, but you do.  Where does the government get its money, from the Revenue Fairy?  No, they get it from taxpayers, of which I am one.  And I do  not pay it out of the kindness of my heart, I do it because of the law and the penalty of law.

So, therefore, you want the government to tax people further so that people you weep countless tears of guilt for can be babied, and thusly, the government will use its police power to confiscate that money from me and millions of others.  All because of YOUR guilt.

You call the tax structure stealing.  Well, if you don't like it why don't you change it.  Why don't you come up with a better solution for getting the dirty work done here in the US.  Do you have any ideas?  Thank you for asking.

1) I'd amend the 16th Amendment so that it sets a rate of income tax of 17% across the board, regardless of income.  The rate can only be raised and lowered with 75% approval of the House and Senate.  No loopholes, no deductions.  Just 17% across the board on everybody.  Do the same for corporations.

2) To fix health care:

a) Tort reform.

b) Health insurance should be sold like auto insurance.  Allow health insurance companies to comepete across state lines.  Allow insurance companies to sell insurance companies to individuals.

c) For those with pre-existing conditions, sell them health insurance in a "high risk pool" as with auto insurance when sold to high risk drivers.

d) MSAs for all.  Employers allowed and encouraged to chip into said MSAs like 401 (k)s.  This way people can pay for sniffles, paper cuts, and broken arms directly to doctors, thus reducing costs by gutting middlemen.

3) Fully privatize Social Security over the next 30 years or so.

4) Privatize Medicare/Medicaid.

5) Dispense with several federal government departments.  I would make the Department of Education virtually unrecognizable from what it is today.  (I'd get into educationreform but this will crash the server.)

That's for STARTERS.

If you're not a part of the Right Wing you sure do represent them well.  You apparently can't be troubled to read your own posts.  I asked if you knew what party I belong to.  Now you bring up a comment about ideology.  Ideologically, I make no bones about being a Rightist.  Now, answer the question: what party do I belong to?  I will answer it for you: NONE.

Now, let's see if you stop tossing around "strawman" and "post hoc" as your cheap excuses to avoid confronting arguments.

I try to figure it out but I

I try to figure it out but I can never understand how most people can read something and see something that isn't there. I have to admit I have experienced it myself.  I find that when I read too fast I tend to make this mistake.

I'm not going to wade through all of your trash I am just going to point out the most glaring of your contradictions.

For you the current tax rate is stealing BUT under your proposed plan of 17%, not so much?

Also, we don't need insurance companies.  If healthcare was open to the free market without being propped up by the insurance companies prices would fall in line with wages.

What ideas do you have for the poor?  Do you think charities are any different or better than the government?  Oh, it's based on how much you want to give.

Did anyone say that owning a home was a part of the Consitution?  No.  Does it make sense?  Yes.

I know you don't care about people but it's a good thing your opinion doesn't matter.  I'm sure you can appreciate the fact that sometimes the ideas of Americans have to be sometimes ignored.

Your simplistic views and even more simplistic solutions are as valuable as the amount of thought you put into them.  If you have a bad job, go get a good job. Wow.  If you are on welfare you are evil and will never want to do better.  If you receive tax dollars you are stealing.

Since when did me not caring about the national debt constitute a "proposal"?  And since you're already paying for health insurance how would providing national healthcare change that?  Oh, yeah, you're right.  It will make it cheaper.

Have you been taking those steroids again Barry?

No it wasn't. There is zero proof that it has created anything. ZERO.  Except open the floodgates to serious fraud, abuse and waste.

This type of mindless Keynsian knee-jerk nonsense has long been discredited as an engine of real economic growth.

Liberal nutjobs shouting 'racist conspiracy' to anyone criticising Barack Obama are all WACKY... RACERS

For you, putting a black man as president of the United States and there being SOME racists in the party is mutually exclusive. For me, not so much.

"If the man, with the power, can't keep it under control...some heads are gonna roll." -Judas Priest

Stupidity rebutted

The Right is like most high on rhetoric and low on substance.  A Leftist accusing the Right of what the Left routinely does.  Shocking.   Your leader is Rush "Barack the Magic Negro" Limbaugh.  Oh, I know he was "quoting" someone but I doubt he is internally conflicted when repeating the "quote".  Actually, even he noted that such movements as the Tea Party movement are remarkable in that they lack a leader.  Hmmmm.  Doesn't sound like a leader to me.  And yes, Limbaugh was quoting the Los Angeles Times.  Sounds like to me you need to do some research.

I've heard your argument before and I am not impressed.  There is NOTHING the Right has to offer any minority besides lip service.  Sorry.  We are not here to baby people for whatever reason.  And you know something?  Amazingly, here in TX I see many "minorities" and immigrants making their way in the world just fine.  The people who don't - of all races, colors, creeds - have a massive 2x4 on their shoulder about how somebody is screwing them or some such gripe.  Why is that?

When the Right learns to RESPECT themselves and be true to most humans principles than you will see your numbers increase.  I have no clue what you are babbling about here.  There is no greater "human principle" than self-reliance and then turning around and helping others of your own freewill, without government coercion or intervention.  Then you can cry: "Why not us?"  Until then you will continue to marginalize yourself among honorable, thoughtful adults  Actually, there is nothing honorable or thoughtful about stealing.  It is even less honorable or thoughtful to steal when you hire the government to use its police authority to steal for you because you lack the guts to do the stealing yourself.  And who do you want to steal from as a Leftist?  Why, people who have 'made it": the responsible, the productive.  This doesn't sound honorable, thoughtful, or even adult to me

Instead of wondering why someone is playing the "race card" wonder why your group is calling the President Hitler.  This from a Leftist who no doubt constantly called Bush this.  Contradictions collapse.  And by the way, you MAY want to look at Rightists individually.  I don't call Him that.  I even capitalize my pronouns when talking about Him.  Wonder why people are suddenly NOW worried about the deficit three months after the last guy left office and gave us record debt.  The "deficit" and the "debt" are two totally different things.  And if you had been reading NB in the past, you'd see that lots of people here were bitching about that very thing.  I would have been quite happy to see Bush veto a budget for not being balanced.  By the way: it's not very adult to constantly blame others for the failings of oneself.  His Majesty The Shahinshah could score major points by putting out a balanced budget and scraping up a little extra cash to pay down the debt.  But He does not do that, so He does not get the props.  What was that defining moment between Bush leaving office and the first "Tea Parties"?  The "stimulus" bill no one wanted but Congress and His Majesty The Shahinshah passed and signed into law anyway.  They gave The Finger to the electorate.  THAT was the defining moment.  Wonder why Fox keeps lying to you people day after day and without apology.  When All Else Fails, Whine About Fox News.  One tiny little network that has ratings that indicate that MAYBE 1% of the population sees it on a good news day, and you whine about them?  Give me a break.  I don't even watch them...if I watch news, and it is an American media outlet, it's CNBC, because business news tends to be less screwed up, and because it is more scenic.  (And they also give a crap about what is going on beyond the borders of the United States, more than others, at least.)

Sounds to me like someone here has a lot to learn about making assumptions about people he doesn't even know.

Finally...

I don't know which reality you're living in but blacks do very well under Democrat Presidents and poorly under Reagan and Bush I & II.  What is odd to me....as I pointed out before...is that I see immigrants from all over the world to quite well here.  I have worked with immigrants from Albania, Cuba...Nigeria...that have ambitions and drive that put me to shame. They all do quite well here.  All do well except one portion of the population.  Care to explain why that is?  Oh, I suppose you can play the race card all you want, but the immigrants I see here aren't Europeans that passed through Ellis Island anymore.  So I'll take it and rip that thing to shreds for the purposes of this argument.

Barry~regarding 00:01

It's best you don't point a finger of condescension -- you have a little trouble in the writing department. To be grammatically correct, your second sentence should be: "Like President Carter, she said..." But if you insist on that poorly constructed sentence, at least put the appropriate commas in, which would be: She, like President Carter, said...

Oh, and you also need to get that period inside the quote mark in "some."

You're welcome. :)

Beautiful!

Not only do I get to trash Right Wing arguments BUT I also enjoy the added benefit of getting grammer refresher courses.

 Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you.

I, like you, often find myself being right on style and wrong on substance.  Never really knew which was more important.

Barry~

It's not a problem. I'm a magazine writer/editor (for famous people, nurses and researchers), and I'll just pop in from time to time -- like those fun pop quizzes we took as kids -- and check out your writing. I'm sure you will enjoy some of my suggestions.

Style and substance is equally important when it comes to the written word. If you're all style with no meat -- there's no significant/meaningful communication to put out; likewise, if you have profound/thoughtful information but you can't effectively reach others by putting a magical touch to your words -- you've got nothing.

Style and substance...I'm always at home with both -- and never leave home without either. As for you, it seems you may have accidentally left both style and substance at home...but, hey, there's plenty of time to regroup. ^_^

Night!

P.S. Start out by remembering that grammar is spelled with an "a" at the end, not an "e."

Uh, O.k.

It seems you've doubled down on style and again ignored substance.  Since you're trying to beat me up by helping me out I will assume you're on the Right and in lockstep with all of their ideology which is typical of people on the Right.  Therefore, you're all style.

Personally, I don't see how communication suffers by me using the British style of quotation punctuation, but hey, what do I know.

Barry~

Debating you is too easy. It's boring. You don't seem to understand simple things. This was not about grammar, dude. Wow, you sure are shallow! Ironically, you've missed the substance -- dig a little deeper.

Barry Bonds said:

"I've found that the Right...Cannot read or listen."

Okay, let's go back over this one more time. If you are going to ignorantly stereotype an entire group of people on any specific issues (which you did), you will have to be above reproach on those issues -- or it will blow up in your face. And since you do have some trouble with the written language, you're a target -- all because of your condescending foolishness.

I take everybody on a case-by-case basis -- no matter what their views. Whatever side you're on, your attitude prevents you from being a good representative. Your arguments are weak...your writing skills less than stellar...but most important of all: you are foolish enough to think it's advisable to be a pompous jerk. Just by insulting stereotyping (one of several tactics you use), you lack the credibility required to be convincing on any topic.

You don't want to be called out? Then don't go into areas where you are clearly unable to defend yourself. Better yet: work on being a more decent person.

GG - setting the bar pretty high, aren't you?

True. He may not even realize there is a bar. Well, other than the one he frequents every Friday at 5 p.m.

[That's just a little joke, Barry Bonds. But it should ease your mind that a conservative can have a sense of humor...you know, since you were unaware of the reading skills.

Georgia Girl exactly what substance have you offered?

If you repeat it I might get it this time.

Thanks for the lecture on etiquette - I feel ashamed even challenging the Right and now I will retire to my studies where I will painstakingly study grammAr until I am on your level.

And you're not one to throw stones considering your post which you deleted because you didn't want to be called out.  I don't professionally study grammar and style so I give myself a pass.  You on the other hand are all hat and no cattle.  I have yet to hear you state a position or refute anything I have stated.

I like your generalities and your presumptions and I hope I take them to heart in order to grow as a person.

Also, let me take a wild guess. If you're an editor or a writer I imagine that you don't publish your first draft. Correct?  I also imagine if you have an office it's filled with reference materials.  Probably a copy of Elements of Style - On Writing Well and a few other gems on grammar and writing. Correct?

Barry~

Wow, you really are an act. I have explained my point over and over again...it you can't get it, there's nothing I can do about that. You stereotyped an entire group of people, saying they couldn't read. And YOU have no room to say that, being that you can't write well. So I am here to show you the error of your writing ways. Do you FINALLY get it?

The post I deleted? LOL. I said that I thought Chris Wallace was actually kinda cute. It was in regard to what someone said about his hair. I deleted it (and made it obvious I was deleting it -- hardly the act of an insidious person) because I knew the guys would tease me for that. You can see my praise for him prior to that post; I think he's a great journalist. Good job, Barry Bonds! Big coverup you got to, dude! LOL. We actually have real personalities on here and joke around. But too funny that you tried to find any little thing you could. I had a little paragraph about how Chris reminded me of a sweet math whiz in fifth grade who sat behind me. We always had to pass our papers forward, and he was always so shy and fumbling when he gave me his paper, with this cute smile on his face. I talked about how he got 100% all the time, so I found it cute that he was always nervous. ALERT THE MEDIA! ^_^

As for your last defensive paragraph...again, dude, it's not about your grammar!!!! It's about your character. By the way, as for reference materials, I can honestly say I rarely have to look anything up -- but you are welcome to use the DICTIONARY if you would like to do so. ^_^ But once again, the only reason I addressed you is that you were belittling other people -- claiming you are superior in your skills and stereotyping. So...I am here to show you that you should not have done that. It was condescending and wrong. If you are going to be a bully, there will always be people who know how to handle you. Too bad you just continue to show yourself to be pompous and unreasonable. You are just making yourself look worse and worse.

Go ahead -- keep it up. I am happy to critique any of your work. But understand the point: it's about the man and his attitude, not the written work. I just happen to have a great tool to use against a bully.

You could just admit you were acting like a jerk. Your choice. I am glad to take your apology at any time.

P.S. And thank you, Barry Bonds. I just got 3 PMs from NBers teasing me for saying Chris Wallace is "kinda cute." Just what I thought would happen if I said that. LOL. That was just what I was hoping to avoid. I can't believe I did that just to answer you. I doubt it will be worth it, but I am still awaiting an apology.^_^

One Trick Pony

Fine, if I was wrong in my assessment of the Right Wing, than please acknowledge that President Carter is correct in his statement.

And the word you're looking for isn't streotype, it's generalize.

P.S. - I could care less about what you think of my writing.  You are nobody.

→ No trick pony

Please tell us what, specifically, Carter pointed to as proof of his opinion.

I can claim you're a racist, but that doesn't make it so.

LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

Racism exist.  People

Racism exist.  People exist.  What more proof do you need?

I guess you've never heard about the signs and emails equating Obama to a monkey or to a black militant or to a witch doctor.

Here is a suggestion go to your typical Right Wing blog pull up the Gates story from the archives and sit down and read the comments. If you need any more proof of some people who don't like Obama being racist I don't know what else to suggest.

→ Hyperbolic Barry

Your ex-President Carter said "overwhelming portion"

Who, in their right mind is going to deny some racism exists?

If yoiu're agreeing with "overwhelming portion" as your premise, you obviously have no concept of political discourse.

I can prove statistically that an overwhelming portion of blacks voted for Obama (does that make them racist?) while you can prove NOTHING about the overwhelming portion of criticisms against Obama being racist.

Your premise is nothing but what you want to believe.

LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

Here is the entire sentence:

Here is the entire sentence: "I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's African-American."

The President was speaking about the subset (intensely demonstrated animosity) of a subset (demonstrated animosity) of a subset (people who oppose Obama).  You see not all people disagree with Obama, not all people demonstrate their animosity and not all people demonstrate their animosity intensely.

And you could go further by saying that not all people on the Right disagree with Obama.  So when you mischaracterize the Presidents statements you are only doing yourself a disservice because most people can see that you guys are trying to play the victim - unless of course you are among that subset which the President was speaking of. (Geogria Girl, what is the rule regarding ending a sentence with a preposition?)

→ Barry surrenders

OK.  Now you've whittled it down to a "subset"of protesters.

The same can be said of your side of the aisle.

Did we claim that your whole side of the aisle were 9-11 truthers?

Of course there are racists in America.  Obama's one of them.  He went immediately to calling the Cambridge cops stupid after admitting he did not have the facts.

His own Grandma was a "typical white woman" . . . he's racist.

Your side depicted Bush as a white monster, Adolph Hitler.  That's racist.  They should have depicted him as Idi Amin if they didn't want to be racist about it.

I can play this stupid "racism" nonsense just the same as you.  Whatever you're seeing, we've seen before, except it was aimed at President Bush.

Spike lee claiming Bush blew up the levees?

Come back when you're not such a crybaby clinging onto your generalities, whimpering away with your silly subset.

LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

It's not my fault you can't

It's not my fault you can't read or listen.  As you can see from the quote it was ALWAYS about a subset. It was your stupid leadership which made it about all of you.

Sorry, but blacks didn't like Bush because he was inept and evil.  How was he inept and evil, you might ask? 2000 elections, 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq, Katrina, Housing Bubble, National Debt, Patriot Act, and tons of other stuff which never hit the MSM.

Now, you're going to say: none of that was Bushs fault.  And I am going to say: The Right - Party of Personal Responsibility Except for George Bush.

He actually had to fail before he was considered a failure.

So now, that I have clearly pointed out the error in your argument your rebuttal is: you did it too? Wow.

George Bushs ineptitude is well documented - you don't need me to explain it to you.

Google is your friend.

→ Who's arguing?

George Bush's economic policy went totally bonkers.  I'm sure he believed his nonsense as much as President Obama believes his.

I understand your desire to put the two of them in the same bed, but you're not going to get a whole lot of argument from us on Bush's economic policy during the last year of his Presidency.

LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

'Roids

You're useless, Mr. 'Roids.

Barry~you called!

You asked for my opinion! Even though you think I am nothing! You like me, you really like me. ^_^ LOL. Don't worry -- I don't think you like me. I have the feeling you would toss a million pies in my face if you could.

As for prepositions (can't tell if you are kidding or not, but I'm always here to help)...ending a sentence in a preposition is generally frowned on, but it's not the crime that elementary school teachers make us think it is. In fact, there are times where it is not only allowed but also works best for the sentence. I'd give you some examples, but that would be boring. For the most part, avoid it if you can.

Thanks for the info. How

Thanks for the info.

How many re-writes does your typical article go through before it is published?

Georgia Girl, not only do I like you but I am jealous of you. I have always wanted to have a career as a writer.

Barry~

Are you serious? You have got to be kidding me. I know you do not like me! I'm still waiting for you to smash me in the face with a pie.

I will be honest here. I almost wanted to make something up because I know you will find this unbelievable (which is why I didn't answer this question the first time you asked) -- and I also detest coming off like Miss Perfect. But the truth is that none of my three editors ever change my copy. That said, I work really hard to produce the highest quality work that I can; I take it very seriously, and I never let an article go until I have fine-tuned it to death. In addition, I inherited the writing gene. My Dad was a publisher. I did go to a really great (tough) journalism school and have worked really hard on my craft, beginning with a writing co-op in college and working professionally ever since. But it's in the blood -- there's no doubt about it -- and I can't take credit for that.

Barry~

And what are you contributing that is of benefit? Are you someone who is making the world a better place -- a place of greater understanding and compassion toward others? Or are you just spewing out nastiness? Are you being fair? Can you listen to another point of view without firing up another vile thing to fling at somebody?

You say you are all about justice, but you don't show the most minimal standard of respect for others who have different viewpoints and reasonings. You scream your sense of injustice -- while treating everybody else with disdain. Instead of being colorblind, all you see is color. That is what colors your world, and you won't give anybody a chance.

I don't know what you're

I don't know what you're talking about - you're mixing up your arguments.

Don't you get enough of that soap box?

Barry~

My reply was for another post of yours -- it was shuffled. Never mind.

Barry~

You are quite a sad, angry person. I honestly feel sorry for you.

No, the word is stereotype. It was the correct word for what I was referring to specifically -- you know, the thing you never could understand. But thanks for the weak attempt at trying to sound like you know what you are talking about -- you must have taken my suggestion to use a dictionary. But sorry, you missed the mark. Again.

Oh, and that should be "couldn't care less," by the way. It's a common mistake by those without a good grasp of the English language.

As for your pathetic little parting shot, I am quite secure in who I am, you poor soul. But the very fact that you would tell anyone they are "nobody" continues to show one thing: the type of person that YOU are: immature, spiteful, ignorant, angry, flailing and judgmental. That, by the way, is all based on who you have communicated you are on this site.

You put people down and condescend, and your arguments are filled with holes and lack of common sense. Yeah, I do feel sorry for you.

P.S. Some of this was a little harsh. I recognize that. I do feel you are being very unfair to some really good people here. I can't understand why you are so mad.

So when has it become a

So when has it become a social  consensus that the Right Wing cannot read or listen?  Sorry but my statement doesn't meet the criteria of being a stereotype - it is more of a generalization.  I suggest you pick up that DICTIONARY.

 A "good grasp"... Really?

I'm glad you're not only adept at grammar but you're also a practicing clinical psychologist.  You know so much about me in such a short time, I found it very hard not to cry.

My arguments have holes?  Good, point them out to me.

Why didn't you answer my question regarding President Carter?

Barry~

I just helped you with the preposition thing -- we were in such a good flow. What went wrong?

As for sterotype, I was referring to your prejudiced attitude about the Right being uneducated, which is what you insinuated -- a mental picture you have of a certain group.

And don't cry, please. And yes, I am also a practicing psychologist. ^_^

President Carter? Here is how I feel about this. Racism exists. There is no doubt about that, and it can be insidious. But Carter always swoops in with over-the-top statements where he gives his own pronouncements -- and they are subjective and wildly unhelpful. He just can't speak for all Americans. Until Carter has gone door-to-door and asked every American their thoughts on this topic, he shouldn't GENERALIZE like he did (there, I used your word). That's the same problem I have with many of your comments on here.

Well, I have to finish up an article for an early deadline, so I'm signing off. It's been real...it's been fun. Okay, so it hasn't been fun at all. But I was real, and I guess sometimes that's all you can do.

Tell-tale sign...

The Right Wing: "Yes, we know she said "some" but because we are liking this victim status we will act as if she said "all". Yes, we know there are racist kooks in our midst but we will ignore it because we like what they are doing and we will provide cover for them with our feigned outrage."

Uh, your side is playing the race card

and you accuse US of playing the victim??? You're a special kind of troll, ain't ya?

I believe it was Tailgunner who said the other night that it is hard to take being called a racist seriously, when the side lobbing the charge counts robert byrd proudly amongst it ranks.

Get some knowledge, will ya?

Call Me The Truth Troll

Wow, Robert Byrd.  That's the best you have?  And I guess based on your contention once a racist always a racist right? No redemption in the Right Wing right?

The Right (and the Left) has some very profound racist among your ranks yet you feel the need to provide cover for them.  Why is that?

Defend this, you self-loathing, idiot troll:

Barry is another 4 week wonder.

Don't even bother . . .

"President Obama is learning on the job and it shows."  --Boris Epshteyn

Huh?

Personally, I think abortion is wrong.

 Next!

Then you should agree

that the leftists in this country trying to exterminate and/or control the black population, on multiple fronts, is wrong as well. We can't hold your hand on this. You will need to do some research.

"If the man, with the power, can't keep it under control...some heads are gonna roll." -Judas Priest

You lie.

-Dave

I agree with Rush. It's time for Obama to resign.

The only ones providing cover are the leftists

They keep electing the bastard. We get rid of our racists, both the party and this site. Look it up if you don't think so.

The democrat party is the party of slavery, Jim Crow, welfare handouts that help no one but lefty politicians. Blacks are nothing but votes to the left, and if you can't see that, then you're hopeless.

"If the man, with the power, can't keep it under control...some heads are gonna roll." -Judas Priest

Welfare

Welfare is one of lifes greatest evils if you ask somone on the Right.

I guess you'd rather people just starved and died in the streets.

It's like the Good Book said: "Love thy corporations - they brother, not so much."

"Blacks are nothing but votes to the left..." How can you make this argument when the Right has given blacks NOTHING and the Democrats have just elected the first black President?

There ya go.

Keep doging. You are nothing but platitudes and ingorance. But hey, if blacks like being seen as inferior by their liberal buddies, then by all means. One side, and one side only wants blacks to succeed. That side ain't the left.

"If the man, with the power, can't keep it under control...some heads are gonna roll." -Judas Priest

Actually, black LOVE being

Actually, blacks LOVE being considered inferior by all of Gods creatures.

But seriously folks, I really don't understand your point.  Are you trying to convince me that the Right Wing is the better party for blacks?

Last time a black guy disagreed with the Right they tried to kick him out of the party - and this is after decades of loyal service.  So thanks but no thanks.

"Blacks are nothing but

"Blacks are nothing but votes to the left..." How can you make this
argument when the Right has given blacks NOTHING and the Democrats have
just elected the first black President?

That's all you have? There was a time when Colin Powell would have won the republican primaries in 2008, if he had just run. That was before his leftist leaning became apparent. If Thomas Sowell or Walter Williams were to run, I'm sure they would have a great deal of support.

But, congratulations on electing the first black president. Too bad you couldn't elect a black president that is qualified for the job.

So, when 0bama loses in 2012

will that be racist?

or will he just be losing because of his policies...

When it comes to government, its not whether the glass is half full or empty, its that the glass is just to big.

            What

What? obama is black? Are you shure? I thought he was half white. Oh, I'm sorry, was that racist? I can't tell, anymore. Well, I tell you what. I'll just hate the white half. Is that politically correct? I'm sorry, I have a lot on my mind, what with my dog's lawyer trying to sue me. You see, my dog is a Chihuahua. The lawyer is calling me a racist. I'm not supposed to stop him from chasing cars. But he keeps stealing the hubcaps. Our catis half black & half white. Is it o.k. to punish the white half for scratching the furniture, or is that racist, too? I'm so confused. Is there a manual on how to be a liberal? Oh, that's right. It's called the fringe media!

It's getting really boring

It's getting really boring constantly being called racist. It's turning into a one trick pony for the left.

RACIST!

Ehh.. doesn't have the same punch anymore... *sigh*

Racist Ancestors

Look we all have some not so nice people in our family lineage. But why is it that blacks have so much trouble forgiving theirs?

How is it white people's fault that their ancestors sold their own family members to other people, because they appparently didn't think they were good enought to keep around?

If their forebearers thought they would be incapable of contributing to society how can they blame that on white people?

Explanation please brother!

blacks do very well under Democrat Presidents

I don't know which reality you're living in but blacks do very well under Democrat Presidents

Hey Barry Bonds, I got three Democratic fiefdoms for you as a reply:

1. Detroit
2. New Orleans
3. Chicago

We've had many Republican and Democratic Presidents in the last 50 years, but these towns have been run exclusively by the Democrats. The black neighborhoods are disasters and have been for generations.

Now as to Presidents, give me your reference to the family income increase (decrease) for black families and white families over the presidencies of the last 50 years that shows how Democrat Presidents create greater wealth for blacks as opposed to the overall population. Also show me the references to the black crime related to the per capita welfare expenditures by President and the success/failure of the black family as welfare increased by leaps and bounds under Democrat Presidents seeing as how welfare is a particularly Democrat idea and issue.

Uncle Sam's Plantation

democRATS operate plantations nationwide.

More Post Hoc...

Show me your reference regarding these three cities.  Show me how simply and solely because of Democrat policies these cities have had disastrous black neighborhoods.

Why would the wealth creation of the black community have to be greater than the overall population?

So you're telling me that there is data which shows a correlation between crime and welfare?  I'll wait for you to produce that chart.

He can't even produce data

which show a reduction in poverty based upon the trillions that we have spent in welfare payments.  Welfare is the perfect example of how the liberal who is full of good intentions actually causes a disaster.  It has resulted in the disintegration of the black family in America.

What about the white family?

What about the white family?  They are the greatest beneficiaries of welfare in the country.  Are their families o.k.?

What about all the data which shows that the greatest benefactor of federal dollars are the red states?

I guess Bubba isn't doing as good as you would like us to believe.

→ Exactly, Barry

We need to get rid of Welfare for the benefit of all families.

Call it what it is - CHARITY

But there's no "welfare about it.

The Liberals have done quite a job of promoting illiteracy and poverty in America.

It's time to break the cycle.

Should I be less opposed against Welfare because there are more whites on Welfare?

Are you trying to be racist?

LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

Barry

"They are the greatest beneficiaries of welfare in the country."

THEY, I believe, make up the largest percentage (still) in this country. Um, yeah, so they might very well be the greatest beneficiaries.

The late great Friedman

You are really going to have to try infinitely harder to counter arguments than tossing around "post hoc.." like candy in a bid to make yourself sound smarter.

Milton Friedman put it best: he said something to the effect that if if you don't want poor people it is best to stop paying them to BE poor, as welfare payments do.

"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)

With apologies (i.e. explanations, not remorse) to Raina Buttbrain, my howls of protest are not because we have an African-American head of state, but because we seem to have an African head of state.  I didn't grow suspicious of his birthplace until he went to great lengths to hide from the public all documents that could establish his birthplace.

That he's showing his Marxist stripes so prominently adds to the howls of protest.  And being bullied with incessant accusations of racism add even more.  It's no wonder even some Liberals are starting to object to him.

Chairman Uhh-bama is asking us to accept fundamental transformations in the guiding principles of the country, without even the trivial courtesy of putting to rest doubts over his constitutional eligibility for the office.  His elitist arrogance alone drags his leadership grade down to a D.  (And his destructive policies drop that to an F-minus...)

The lack of vetting

came because a racist media didn't want to have its best chance of having a black President disqualified.  Remember, Sarah Palin has more executive qualifications that Barack Obama has even today.

Shaved Gorillas?

I have never heard or read this particular term until now and it is coming from the extreme Left ironically? These extremists are exactly like those they characterize the protesters against Obamessiah as? They are every bit as hate filled and intolerant of those who differ with their asinine view of the world as any Imperial Wizard of the KKK or high ranking Neo-Nazi! They might as well don their own robes and "light" their own crosses because they are the same, except for their own flavor of twisted ideology! Their outrageous characterization of those opposed to their "god" is absolutely ridiculous especially since many of those opposed are not even white? These Leftover imbeciles either do not care or want to start a war? I guess they don't realize if that happens, they in all likelyhood will not survive, but neither will the country unfortunately! They are helping the extreme elements on both sides by turning this from a debate on issues into a dangerous racially charged "us vs them" clash of ideologies! When they are choking on the smoke and dying in the ashes of what was a great country they can thank themselves and their own hatred for the results! Welcome to the brotherhood!
