Something absolutely shocking happened on Monday's "Good Morning America": ABC's George Stephanopoulos told the nation that the President's healthcare address to the country Wednesday did nothing to change Americans' views about ObamaCare.
Referring to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll released moments earlier, Stephanopoulos shared numbers with host Diane Sawyer indicating the President's speech wasn't the game-changer Democrats and the Obama-loving media had hoped.
And, you can see by the expression on Stephanopoulos's face that no one was more disappointed than him (video embedded below the fold with some of the poll results, h/t Jake Tapper):
Split on Obama's handling of health care: 48-48 (46-50 August 17)
Support Obama's health care reforms: 46-48 (45-50 August 17)
President Obama's job approval is at 54 (57 August 17)
Deficit: 65% think health care reform will make it worse
Medicare: 56% of seniors think it will weaken MedicareOn the crucial "what's in it for me?" question, twice as many Americans (32-16) think it will make their own care worse, twice as many (40-20) think it will increase their costs, and more than three times as many (37-11) think it will hurt their coverage.
Exit question: will other media outlets share the bad news from this poll?

Interesting
September 14, 2009 - 10:47 ET by EddieWalkerFor a professional brown noser like Stephanopoulis to come out and say this must indicate that it's allot worse then they want to admit. His job is to spin things to make the Dems look good. If he's admitting that Obamy failed, or didn't accomlish his goal of fooling everybody, then he's just trying to spin an utter failure into a so-so failure by saying nothing changed. I'm looking forward to seeing what Rasmusan has in his latest polls. The more Obamy talks, the worse he sounds.
LOOK BELOW THE SURFACE...
September 14, 2009 - 13:52 ET by danybhoyYeah, Stephanopoulis is a lib, I'm not sure he would deny that, but he is a political professional. He can be(not that he always is)honest about what he says on the air, so his view on Obama is understandable. Besides, he has given way over 100 speeches on Obama-care, & every time he does, that polls go down. Every time.
Another thing that might be in play is internal liberal loyalty. Stephanopoulis is a Clinton loyalist, & I get the feeling that there is still plenty of bad blood between Clintonistas & Obamunists. Hillery & Bill were well slimed by Obama, & I get the impression they have not forgotten, or completely forgiven. There are too many old Clintonistas in the MSM, & their old loyalties may change depending on the situation.

How can this be?! The msm
September 14, 2009 - 10:53 ET by gopsteveHow can this be?! The msm tripped all over itself last wednesday telling us how good the speech was.
Oh, those ignorant Americans!
Can't stand his politics, but ...
September 14, 2009 - 11:01 ET by KC MulvilleI grudgingly respect that Stephanopoulos didn't hide the numbers. I don't even mind whether he frowned when he said them, at least he said them. He also showed up on O'Reilly a week or so ago, and didn't indulge in conservative-bashing. Give credit where credit is due.
As for the game-changing bit? Obama wasn't trying to persuade. He was trying to encourage the people who already agreed with him. Why he called the entire Congress together, I don't know. If he ever calls Congress together again for a deceiful lecture from the podium, from which he demands there be no opposition ... if I were a Congressman, I wouldn't go.
And let's go to the media instant replay, to the pundits who declared that it was a home run, and how profound a speech it was ... <spew coffee> LOL!
Speech not a game changer?
September 14, 2009 - 12:03 ET by VonuI should say not, since all that is talked about today is Joe Wilson and he only said 2 words.
Freedom is a vital component of human effectiveness and fulfillment.
So Obama spends his
September 14, 2009 - 12:10 ET by MassConservativeSo Obama spends his Saturday in Minneapolis in fron of a screened audience of 15,000 "Obamaphiles" spewing the exact same speech he did Wednesday with the same talking points he has tried to ram down peoples throats in speech after speech after speech....
Meanwhile..in Washington a million or more Americans show up to let their voices be heard on how awful this plan and administration is in general and they cannot understand why his speeches are not "game changers" ???
Go ahead Dems and hitch your wagon to the "ObamaCare Express". Come November 2010 you can look back fondly on those 4 years in the majority and long for those days again.

September 14, 2009 - 12:14 ET by cajun2George, let me introduce you to Thomas Sowell, Kevin Jackson, Mason Weaver, and Rev. Stephen Broden. Intelligent, educated individuals unafraid to give their thoughts on this president. Ask them your thoughtful questions to assess this administration. Oh, dont forget to call them racist, confused and mis-informed immediately after your interview.
I'm shocked. Obama gives
September 14, 2009 - 12:16 ET by Jack BauerI'm shocked. Obama gives the greatest speech since Moses came down Mount Sinai with God's 3 ... (oooops. sorry, dropped one) 2 stone tablets laying out his ten commandments speech.
(Stone Tablets being the teleprompter of the day.)
For his next trick Obama will walk across the Potomac, and turn water into WHINE.
today's speech
September 14, 2009 - 12:26 ET by jon_torlinAnother day, another speech. He gives speech after speech after speech after speech after speech after speech......you say that too fast and you'll get your tongue twisted.
And what did he talk about today? Financial reform! Oh glory be! He's going to help us with financial reform just like he's helping us with health care reform! Excuse me for a moment.....*BAAARRRFFFF*
In all seriousness, the stock market should be reacting negatively about this, but then I think they will anyway should Congress start taking up legislation...oh wait, no real bill yet for health care(except for the thousand pages), so do they need a real bill for financial reform? Hm, the market wonders.
*sigh* This gets old.

Reconciliaton
September 14, 2009 - 12:30 ET by LiptonDoes the polling even matter if they are just going to ram through with reconciliation. Even Bill Frist said that is what they are going to do on Fox & Friends this morning. I am glad to see the polling here. Rasmussen has him rising ever day since the speech he gave on Wednesday.
Big Liberal Media Failing
September 14, 2009 - 13:04 ET by deerjerkydaveThe big liberal media failed on this one. They blacked out the Van Jones scandal because it distracted Obama from his health care bill. Next they talked up Obama's speech, saying that if he hit a home run that it would change public sentiment in favor of Obama-care. After Obama's speech they said he hit a home run (surprise!) and CNN faked a poll that sampled twice as many Democrats as Republicans showing new massive support for Obama-care.
Now that we have a real poll out, the numbers show that it hasn't changed anybody's minds and Obama-care is still on life support. The big liberal media is trying so hard and yet can't seem to help Obama's agenda.
Who cares what
September 14, 2009 - 14:27 ET by mattmWho cares what Clintonopoulos thinks? So, he states the obvious, big deal. I'm sure he'd cried for an hour before working up the gumption to simply state a fact.
Now that Georgie boy has
September 14, 2009 - 15:24 ET by dscottNow that Georgie boy has acknowledged the obvious that no one buying what Obama is selling, what next? How about acknowledging Obama IS the source of the misrepresentations?
Did anyone hear some of today's speech by Obama? The fount of misinformation is blaming the lack of market regulation and greed for the economic meltdown. Obama has yet to admit that he and his buddies, ACORN, Frank, Schumer, Raines, Emuanuel and his campaign contributors at the banks and brokerage houses were the ones who screwed up the system. Obama, the former lawyer for ACORN sued Citibank to force them to make "diversity" loans, loans to people who couldn't pay it back.
The bottom line here is everytime Obama makes a speech blaming someone, it's nothing more than a coverup, a PROJECTION, of his own or liberals misdeeds, Obama is essentially ADMITTING to wrong doing. This creep has confessed enough, now it's time to put him in jail.
What's Obama's latest solution? For the banks to get in bed with the government, the last time I checked this is called Fascism: http://www.publiusfo...
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, starving the poor one gallon of ethanol at a time. Fill your tank with E85 and cull a village.
Financial Regs
September 14, 2009 - 16:05 ET by LiptonIf they use reconciliation to ram through health care, than I have heard that the republicans would basically shut down the Senate. I wonder if that would keep them from pushing through these financial regulations.
