How Media Created Obama's Cult of Personality

Wikipedia claims, "A cult of personality arises when a country's leader uses mass media to create an idealized and heroic public image, often through unquestioning flattery and praise."

As this typically occurs in a totalitarian nation, that country's ruler, with complete control of the media, is able to mandate what images of him or herself are being disseminated thereby furthering his cult-like status.

As Barack Obama did not become president until January 20 of this year, it seems irrefutable that his cult of personality was bestowed upon him by so-called journalists who in order to help him get elected abdicated their solemn responsibility to report the truth to the American people.

Twenty years before this happened, the funk metal band "Living Colour" prophecised such an eventuality with their smash hit "Cult of Personality."

For your entertainment pleasure this Labor Day, what follows is a video of this astoundingly prescient song as well as a recent adaptation with images from last year's campaign designed to help put all the disturbing pieces together (h/t NB reader Edward):

Aren't you overlooking something? Like NS very first word of the thread, wikipedia, remember what you said when I used wikipedia a couple of weeks ago, let me refresh you memory.

Unsane : Leave it to 24enak to use his power of the Holy Writ to declare Rush and all conservatives wrong, and then back up his Writ with the holiest of the holy academic sources, the unimpeachable, always credible Wikipedia.

Not that Noel needs any of us to defend him, but I've already posted that the use of the Wiki definition is appropriate because it is the absolute authority among liberals.

How can you now decry the use of Wiki when it's your favorite information source.

This is entirely too funny.  You fell right into a trap we saw laid in your path.

I would never use wikipedia

I would never use wikipedia for a legitimate paper. If I wanted to be taken seriously I wouldn't use wikipedia. I would have spend an extra two seconds to find another source like this one  http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/cult+of+personality or a number of other sources besides wikipedia, because I wouldn't want to look like a fool for my legitimate article or paper. Especially, if say, it was my job.

the petulant kane42

kane42, this is beyond petulant.  You were busted, and now you are whining and screaming like a baby why I'm not busting Mr. Sheppard's chops for Wikipedia use.

Maybe I could chide him for Wikipedia referencing.  But I won't, especially with your childish whining here.  I recommend you personally ask Mr. Sheppard himself - he is one of the few NB higher ups that communicates with and responds to posters.

Besides, this whining of yours is infinitely easier than dealing with the topic at hand, isn't it?

"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)

Hmmm....   NS is not

Hmmm....   NS is not using Wikipedia as a reference in this context, now is he?  'Wikipedia claims....'    This is a left-handed reference, scorn, not praise, as if to say, even low-rent and unreliable Wikipedia agrees with this definitoin.

Personally, I'd prefer he not mention them at all, but at least in this context Noel does not hold Wikipedia up as any kind of relaibly authoritative source.

Hannity making Obama

Hannity making Obama zealots look foolish?  Jeez, that's shooting fish in a barrel.

And seeing Chris Matthews, of ALL people, questioning Obama's bona fides was side-splitting.

Noel,I think a lot

Noel,

I think a lot of conservative pundits on television are missing this in discussing our objections to the "support material" handed out by the Department of Education for Obama's speech to the nation's captive audience of school children. Many liberals, like Kirsten Powers on "Geraldo (is Still) At Large", protest that this is all as innocent as children writing to their president as in years past. My point has been our objectons didn't come from a vacuum - this is just the latest push of building a cult of personality around Obama. I'm thinking of items we read during the campaign of children in classrooms singing songs about Obama, artists in a competition to capture Obama in paint or in clay, those iconic posters, etc.  The usually sharp SE Cupp didn't bring up any of the build up of the Cult of Personality that culminated in The Dear Leader's speech and the "call to action" for little school kids by the DOE in her response to Powers.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Chris

Chris,

I think that's a great point. I saw someone saying that yesterday. Don't remember who it was. But something to the effect of not minding if Bush or even Clinton had done this closed circuit speech to kids. But Obama is so into controlling all aspects of American business, culture, and behavior that it seems quite justified to be concerned about him talking to students this way.

Furthermore, the whole curriculum was offensive. I don't want my daughter writing about how she can help this president. That is indeed indoctrination.

I've never before considered wanting a president to fail. I've never rooted against a president, even the ones I didn't vote for.

But this is indeed a Marxist leading our nation in a disgusting direction that I never imagined possible. As a result, I imagine there are many parents quite fearful of this man speaking to their kids without them present.  ns

Noel, many of us here kept

Noel, many of us here kept harping on that fact.

It was never about the pep-talk; it was always about the support materials and "suggested" activities for kids, that surrounded the speech, making it a part of the curriculum and the kids into government "helpers."

But the liberals kept framing it as "They don't want the President to give a speech to schoolkids."

So it turns out that President is going to tell kids to "wash their hands a lot" among other things.

How on earth is the DOE going to turn this into a "How do I help the President" teaching moment?  But they will have a grand old time with the "Protect the environment" admonition.

Get ready, parents, for your kids to come home lecturing you!

mb, And it's a hop, skip,

mb,

And it's a hop, skip, and a jump to suggesting to the kids that they "let us know how your parents waste electricity" and from that to...

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Noel,

Everytime something like this is protested by conservatives, the liberals claim that it's all entirely innocent and point to some "comparable" incident from when a Republican was in office - and that we are "overreacting". The point is, it's all these reports of all these things, in their entirety, that make us so nervous about what's going on. There's just been too many attempts and incidents of glorifying Obama to ignore just one more as being, somehow, "innocent". I mean, how many hundreds of stings does one have to get before realizing that he's standing in a swarm of bees?

You add all this to a background of the fascistic/socialistic takeover of the direction of US business and government intrusions into personal lives and how can one ignore yet another stitch or two in the emerging tapestry?

What's really sobering is that there are millions of children who have parents that don't care one way or the other about things like this. Their kids are the ones who are really suceptible to this kind of political manipulation.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Shame on you Mr. Noel for wanting a President to fail.

Re: Cult of Personality

I am a pretty ardent sports fan, but for obvious reasons, it is not THAT important to me that the president or or other leaders share my same hobbies/interests.  I don't see them as necessarily being prerequisite to being a great leader.

But for whatever reason (and I can't put my finger on where exactly I picked this up - but I know it was from the state run media), Obama was portrayed as a very good athlete.  Needless to say, his first pitch at the All Star game was an eye-opener.  I mean, he flat out sucks - there is no contesting it!  And, I would bet he generally sucks at most sports because being able to throw a ball is pretty basic.   Add on top of that his laughable "victorious" fist pump he gave after the pathetic toss!  Classic.

It would not have meant anything to me had he not been elevated to cult hero status that was excellent in every regard (sports included) by the SRM.  In one sense, it was a nothing - again I could really care less about how well he can throw a ball.  At the same time, it made quite a statement to me re: the degree in which the SRM are so complicit in manufacturing the best image of Obama.   How much more propaganda would they employ for meaningful matters?

The pitch was such a stark contrast between marketed image vs reality.  I mentioned it to a left leaning sporting friend, and he had to laugh as well about the lameness of the pitch and how it did seem like he was made out to be some athlete.

Right up there with the pitch, though, is Michelle Obama's being listed by Maxim Magazine as one of the top 100 hottest.  I mean, really??  C'mon... ha ha!!

If you're going to lie, at least take pride in doing it well (which means choosing your spots)!

Yeah--where does he play hoops these days?

To me, he is too spindly to be an athlete--and we never see his BB games anymore, with his so-called buddies.

Really?

Speaking of so called journalist, wikipedia is your source, really?

" As this typically occurs in a totalitarian nation, that country's ruler, with complete control of the media, is able to mandate what images of him or herself are being disseminated thereby furthering his cult-like status."

Suggesting that we are now a totalitarian nation, and Obama has complete control of the media, and mandates what images of him are disseminated, is a ridiculous claim. If we are a totalitarian nation and if Obama has complete control of the media then why are there website, like this one, that are critical of Obama still able to do what they do everyday? Wouldn't Fox News be out of business?

this would be the neener neener approach?

Well at least you're consistent.

kane42...

From Cool Arrow: "The use of Wikipedia is absolutely appropriate in this case because the definition extracted from it completely and absolutely describes Obama worship in the words of the Liberals' own bastion of truth."

In other words, Noel laid a trap for you.  You walked right into it and speared yourself on it.

Suggesting that we are now a totalitarian nation, and Obama has complete control of the media, and mandates what images of him are disseminated, is a ridiculous claim.  We are well down the road to totalitarianism.  And we are doing things as a country that only happen in dictatorships.

For instance, I breezed through Chicago's Midway earlier this year and found, much to my horror, much imagery with the likeness of His Majesty The Shahinshah.  DC was far worse in that regard: I bought Farecards to ride the subway there and was repeatedly confronted with images of Him with his hot, beautiful smile that SO MANY love (and clearly you cannot get enough of).  Ick.  I was almost begging for Farecards that depicted pandas from the National Zoo.

Things like this are NOT DONE in democratic nations.  My father told me of a journey he once made from his small IL town to Detroit, where he had relatives...much to his horror as a boy, he saw FDR's portrait amidst the family pictures.  As he put it to me later: "I knew that THAT was the sort of thing reserved for guys like Stalin!"

To advance the clock to today's time: I get it when I enter federal buildings and see images of His Majesty The Shahinshah.  It makes total sense.  But everywhere else?  For example, can someone tell me the number of times Bush appeared on ESPN in the eight years he was in the White House?  No one from ESPN called Bush to ask him for his bracketology picks, or his opinion on college football having a championship game, and so on.  They sure as all hell WILL put His Majesty The Shahinshah on there for virtually ANY reason.

It is at the point of total saturation.  It isn't normal in a country such as ours.

If we are a totalitarian nation and if Obama has complete control of the media then why are there website, like this one, that are critical of Obama still able to do what they do everyday? Wouldn't Fox News be out of business?  Simple. They haven't found a way to legally do it yet.  They are trying.

"We are well down the road

"We are well down the road to totalitarianism.  And we are doing things as a country that only happen in dictatorships." Like what? You sound like a crazy person. Last I checked the democrat party was democratically elected into office, they didn't cease power, there was no coup. There will be another Republican president someday.

Where the images of Obama that were at the Midway put up by Obama, no. They were put up by people who supported him, because they have the freedom to do so because this is America. If you were to travel to another place in America you will also find anti-Obama poster's and bumper stickers, like the joker poster. Now do you think there was any anti-Stalin anything in Russia, NO. Because it was a real totalitarian nation, I wish people like you who cry dictatorship could go back in time and live under Stalin's rule, or Hitler's rule or go live in North Korea today, so that you can see what a real dictatorship is like.

People admire presidents, Democrats and Republicans a like. As I type this there is an ad where you can buy a Ronald Reagan t-shirt. It works both ways.

They are trying to get Fox News out of business? Really? You sound like a crazy person, again.

For the self-righteuos moron kane42

Like what? You sound like a crazy person. Last I checked the democrat party was democratically elected into office, they didn't cease power, there was no coup.  You are right, they have not ceased power at all.  They have been continuing in power  -at least in the Congress - since January 2007.

You say we are not headed towards totalitarianism and question MY sanity?  I suggest you read HR 3200.  Yeah, I know your response is that "Unsane, it is GREAT!!!  The government wants to BABY me with FREE HEALTH CARE!!!   The goverment exists to baby people as much as possible!!!  Don't YOU want to be babied too, Unsane?  It will be GREAT!!!"

Um, no it won't.  I like having the freedom of contract, to do business with whoever I damn well please, and paying for what I want, and paying for things on an "as I need them" basis.

I also don't like the idea of a government that can tell me when and where I can get medical services if I need them.  I also don't like having the government run my life and otherwise punish me because I for my doc just like I do my gasoline, my rent, my water and my groceries: on an "as I need them" basis.

But all of that doubtless appeals to a helpless, whiny waif such as yourself, who needs the government to completely micromanage and control every single aspect of your life.  This doesn't appeal to an autonomous adult such as myself and millions of others who can and do manage quite well on our own.

There will be another Republican president someday.  You are making the mistake of thinking I am a Republican.  I am a conservative, a Rightist.  There IS a difference.  I suggest you learn that difference.

Where the images of Obama that were at the Midway put up by Obama, no. They were put up by people who supported him, because they have the freedom to do so because this is America.  This sentence shows me one thing: that you are completely, 100^% ignorant - perhaps willfully so - of the history and culture of your own nation.

I really do not care if people were forced to put up images of your God at gunpoint or not.  It isn't done in democracies.  Why?  Because we don't elevate out politicians like this.  Our politicians are mortals, not Gods.

To give you an example: in 1968, the San Antonio City Council voted to name the then-new Loop 410 after Gov Connally.  Gov Connaly thanked the City Council but asked that do not go through until after his death.  In January 1994 they honored his wish, as he had died 7 months before.

You may think deifying living politicians is great, wonderful and to be applauded - I don't, because unlike you, I know that His Majesty The Shahinshah still has to put on his pants one leg at a time, just like me.  He is still flesh and blood.  In democracies, this isn't done.  It isn't healthy.  It is even more sickening if done out of one's freewill, because all it shows me is that the individual that engages in such behavior doesn't even believe in his or her very own capacity to solve his or her own problems.

The only image I have of another human being in this apartment is an autographed image of Robin Meade.  Appropriately, I keep it by the television because it fits the theme.  If you need help in figuring out why I do that...well, you must not be a heterosexual male.  (Had she not autographed it, it wouldn't be on display.  Since she did, however, that changes the protocol.)

If you were to travel to another place in America you will also find anti-Obama poster's and bumper stickers, like the joker poster.  Yeah.  Like in San Francisco, where I saw some WERE posted at 2nd and Hamilton...only they were torn down by those oh so tolerant Leftists.

I wish people like you who cry dictatorship could go back in time and live under Stalin's rule, or Hitler's rule or go live in North Korea today, so that you can see what a real dictatorship is like.  Sweetie, I have you clobbered.  I have been to the People's Republic of China, North Korea and East Germany.  I have been through Checkpoints Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie.  I have studied more about Stalin's rule that you can begin to imagine.  So you may STFU about lecturing me about what real dictatorships were like.

A Leftist lecturing me that way, when doubtless a year ago he would SCREAM and SCREAM and SCREAM about that evil bastard totalitarian Bush, as so many Leftists did.  The irony here is immense!

In fact, it is for that reason I am so appalled at seeing images of His Majesty the Shahinshah everywhere...precisely because we DO NOT live in a dictatorship, and nor should we be emulating one.

People admire presidents, Democrats and Republicans a like. As I type this there is an ad where you can buy a Ronald Reagan t-shirt. It works both ways.  I do too.  You don't see me having images of them at home.  Because they are mere mortal politicians.  See, people having images of Jesus in their himes does not bother me, for obvious reasons.  I can fully understand my mother having a tapestry of The Last Supper at her home.  Deifying other people is...well...disturbing.  It should bother you.  That it doesn't...well, it turns my stomach.

They are trying to get Fox News out of business? Really? You sound like a crazy person, again.  Really?  Time to get informed.  If they weren't, please explain why your God has surrounded Himself with people who love the idea of bringing back the Fairness Doctrine, or why that whining crybaby atatcks Fox News on occasion for DARING to question Him.

"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)

"I like having the freedom

"I like having the freedom of contract, to do business with whoever I damn well please" Wouldn't you have the freedom of choosing to keep you insurance if you like, the government is not forcing you into the public option (assuming there will be one). Shouldn't the 40+ million have an option for receiving health care.  I like the idea of a choice, for both a private and public option.

"I also don't like the idea of a government that can tell me when and where I can get medical services if I need them." But you like the insurance companies to tell you.

"It isn't done in democracies.  Why?  Because we don't elevate out politicians like this.  Our politicians are mortals, not Gods." So explain the Lincoln memorial (which looks like the Parthenon), Mt. Rushmore, naming the Capital after the first president, and all the statues around the US of every president, every grave site and library as landmarks. Or the face of our money, and I could go on.

"I have been to the People's Republic of China, North Korea and East Germany.  I have been through Checkpoints Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie.  I have studied more about Stalin's rule that you can begin to imagine.  So you may STFU about lecturing me about what real dictatorships were like."

Operative word being been you haven't lived under those regimes. You have been to these places so you should know there is no comparison from those places to America.

"A Leftist lecturing me that way, when doubtless a year ago he would SCREAM and SCREAM and SCREAM about that evil bastard totalitarian Bush, as so many Leftists did.  The irony here is immense!"

You could not be more wrong, I voted for Bush in '04, and will never vote a straight ticket, I vote for the man, not the party. And do you know what the real irony is. When those that called Bush a totalitarian, Hitler it was the right that cried 'loons' and 'crazy protesters'. Now that the other party is in office the roles have reversed. It is the right calling Obama a Hitler, totalitarian leader, and the left calling those people crazy.

Answer this question: Is it OK to call the President of the United States Hitler?

And if this was a dictatorship it would be the government that was mandating that the images of Obama be put up, but their not. There is a BIG difference.

And just because you don't have images of politicians in your home doesn't mean other can't, I thought you like freedom. Having a picture, or poster in your home doesn't mean your deifying them. There is a difference between deifying and admiring people.

What people has Obama surrounded him with that want to bring back the fairness doctrine, I thought you would have 'informed' me with some names, or proof. Obama has said that if, IF, the fairness doctrine bill were to make it through the house and senate (which won't happen) he wouldn't sign it into law.

Get off your ass and read the bill

"I like having the freedom of contract, to do business with whoever I damn well please" Wouldn't you have the freedom of choosing to keep you insurance if you like, the government is not forcing you into the public option (assuming there will be one).  If you get off your ass and READ THE BILL, you will see on page 16 that private insurance policies can no longer be written after the law comes into force.  There goes my freedom of contract.  There goes my ability to do business as I damn well please.  And projections are that the public "option" as it is called in such Orwellian fashion will get 88 million people dumped into it as businesses cheerfully get rid of those they agreed to insure when they hired them.

Shouldn't the 40+ million have an option for receiving health care.  They do already.  No hospital can refuse treatment on the basis of the ability to pay.  If one has, show me a case; if you do, the very first thing I will ask you is why you haven't told a state attorney general about it.  And if their lack of insurance still causes you to cry painful tears of guilt into your pillow every night, then you always have the option of giving to charity, or getting off your ass and starting a charity.

I like the idea of a choice, for both a private and public option.  You have 1300 private options and that STILL isn't enough???  You don't want a public "option" - YOU WANT TO BE BABIED by the federal government at MY (and millions of other taxpayers') expense because you are too lazy/whiny/pathetic to pay for your own damn doctor.

"I also don't like the idea of a government that can tell me when and where I can get medical services if I need them." But you like the insurance companies to tell you.   The insurance company tells me nothing - I'm not insured.  And even when I WAS insured, they refused to pay for my twice-yearly visits to my dental hygienist for the longest time becuase the hygienist wasn't "theirs".  The 24enak approach to this dilemma is to sit on the ground and scream like a temper tanturm throwing 2 year old, demanding the government come and baby you.  Me: I took something called a checkbook to that hygienist.  I figuratively gave the middle finger to my insurance company and did business with who I damn well pleased.

You have so much learning to do it is sickening.  Just because the insurance company says no doesn't mean a damn thing.  You can still get it done; you just have to use other means.

So explain the Lincoln memorial (which looks like the Parthenon), Mt. Rushmore, naming the Capital after the first president, and all the statues around the US of every president, every grave site and library as landmarks. Or the face of our money, and I could go on.   Tell me something: what is the difference between those politicians we have on Mt. Rushmore, on our currency, and so on, and His Majesty The Shahinshah?  Think REAL LONG AND HARD ON THAT.

For instance, I suspect there was a move afoot for some time to replace one of CA's statues in Statuatory Hall in the U.S. Capitol with Reagan, and indeed, it will happen, if it hasn't already.  Do you know what event had to occur for Reagan to receive that honor?

Operative word being been you haven't lived under those regimes. You have been to these places so you should know there is no comparison from those places to America.  Sweetie, you are still stupidly trying to scold and lecture me on that of which you know nothing.  As I have been there, I do not feel the need to venerate politicians as if they are deities.  This is what goes on in those countries.  As this is the United States, I see no need to emulate dictatorships as you seem so deeply eager to do.

If there is no comparison between those places and the United States, we don't need to be acting like them.  But you are too blind , happily worshipping His Majesty The Shahinshah as Christ to figure that out.

You could not be more wrong, I voted for Bush in '04, and will never vote a straight ticket, I vote for the man, not the party.  Next I suppose you will offer me a great deal on a bridge linking Manhattan to Brooklyn. Well, unfortunately for you, you have a very severe reading problem.  I have spelled out for you how your God wants to RULE, not govern, the United States.  Now, I wouldn't compare Him to other historical figures, but He does in fact want to rule the country.  Whine all you want about me saying this, but I can only go on what He does, not on what He says.  What the hell am I supposed to conclude?

Answer this question: Is it OK to call the President of the United States Hitler?  Godwin's Law.

And if this was a dictatorship it would be the government that was mandating that the images of Obama be put up, but their not. There is a BIG difference.  Listen, dummy.  I know reading isn't your strong suit, but I do not care if that imagery is being put up at the point of a gun or not!  That is behavior for dictatorships, not the United States of America!!!

And just because you don't have images of politicians in your home doesn't mean other can't, I thought you like freedom.  This is the same crap argument that people use on here whenever Mr. Bozell posts a column on a television program he doesn't like.  He criticizes it; 300 posts will follow on how Mr. Bozell is a big, evil censor.  Please show me where I said people shouldn't be allowed to do that.   Having a picture, or poster in your home doesn't mean your deifying them. There is a difference between deifying and admiring people.   If it is of a politician, as I cited way the hell above in an example that comes to me by way of my father, it is extremely spooky.  That doesn't bother you in the least because you cannot function without government, apparently.  From the looks of things you don't believe your heart can beat without a law decreeing that it do so; or that the only reason you are here on earth is because your parents were ordered by law to copulate 40 weeks before your birth.

What people has Obama surrounded him with that want to bring back the fairness doctrine, I thought you would have 'informed' me with some names, or proof. Obama has said that if, IF, the fairness doctrine bill were to make it through the house and senate (which won't happen) he wouldn't sign it into law.  You want names, and proof?  You haven't been reading NB nearly enough.  There have been ENTIRE THREADS dedicated to this on NB.  Go to the search engine and enter the words "Fairness doctrine" and see what threads come up.

By the way, "which won't happen" is crap.  Campaign finance reform wasn't supposed to happen either.  I beat my head into the desk as Bush signed it with a rationale of "don't worry, the SCOTUS will strike it down!"  It was upheld.  From the looks of things, I'd be willing to bet you are lying through your teeth about voting for Bush in 2004.  At least I HOPE you are.  Because if you are that old..wow, I feel very sorry for you.  Not very bright and laughably, dangerously naive...it's not a good combination to have

The Obama Administration: THE most fiscally irresponsible Administration EVER

There is no official bill

There is no official bill there are four different bills, then there might be three more different bills in the next week.

I don't want to be babied by the government I want to be protected. Do you think the USDA, FDA, FAA, FBI, CIA, CDC, or a number of other government agencies are bad? No they were established to protect America and it's citizens.

This is what you said:  "Because we don't elevate out politicians like this.  Our politicians are mortals, not Gods."  We do elevate some politicians to a higher level than the average joe. We do not elevate current politicians to the level of memorials, and we haven't with Obama. Private citizens have posters, and pictures of him of their own free will. Which is no different than any other presidential supporters.  When Obama dies then there will be monuments, and statues, and memorials because he is a historic figure, and former president. There is no Obama statue being commissioned by tax dollars to my knowledge.

Countries with dictators would never allow dissent, they would never allow protesters. They would imprison them on frivolous charges and kill or torture them, which you should know. Then you should also know that is not, not, going on in America, not now, not ever.

"I know reading isn't your strong suit, but I do not care if that imagery is being put up at the point of a gun or not!  That is behavior for dictatorships, not the United States of America!!!" So you want to control what the American people can and cannot put up? Why you sound like Adolf Hitler/Stalin/Hussein. And I thought conservatives liked the first amendment, but apparently you don't.

Newsbusters is hardly a reliable source for proof. Obama has said that he wouldn't sign the bill even if it got that far. He has said now as president and when he was in the Senate, he opposes the fairness doctrine.

Keep right on making an ass of yourself

There is no official bill there are four different bills, then there might be three more different bills in the next week.  Really?  You mind checking out HR 3200?

don't want to be babied by the government I want to be protected. Do you think the USDA, FDA, FAA, FBI, CIA, CDC, or a number of other government agencies are bad? No they were established to protect America and it's citizens.  Now you are petulantly conflating.  Since the FBI protects America's citizens in law enforcement issues and the CIA looks for foreign threats, the government now needs to BABY you with "free" health care?  You do not think logically at all, do you?

Let's look at your examples you threw out in your childish, whiny bid to justify you being babied.  Does the USDA buy your food and provide you with free food?  Oh, I'm sure you could bring up food stamps, but if I were king for a day, that wouldn't be happening.  Charity - a concept you as a whiny Leftist are completely unfamiliar with - can handle people who need food.

By the way, I do not need a doctor every day.  But I DO need food every day.  I require it every single day in order to live.  Why isn't the government nationalizing spuermarkets?  Why aren't you advocating they do so?

Does the FAA buy you plane tickets every year?  No; they are a regulatory agency for aviation that exists primarily because changes in the aviation industry outstrip Congress' ability to keep up.  Like any other government agency I prefer to keep it as small as possible.

Honestly...I can't figure out why we necessarily need the CDC.

I think lots of government agencies are bad.  Like Social Security, in its present form.  I'd prefer we privatize the whole thing over time.  We may as well; it won't be there for me, especially if you get your wish and you get the government to legally steal from me because you are too whiny/lazy/pathetic to pay for your own damn doctor.  Other federal agencies as hey exist shold be privatized.  The government should be doing a lot less than it is.  Contrary to your world view, the world will not end tomorrow with a smaller government.

We do elevate some politicians to a higher level than the average joe.  Which is a very serious mistake.  In a democracy, even politicians are responsible to the law and to their God.  Just like everyone else.   We do not elevate current politicians to the level of memorials, and we haven't with Obama.   Private citizens have posters, and pictures of him of their own free will.  Yes, but as I keep trying to bang into that extremely thick skull of yours, that is behavior reserved for dictatorships.  And no, I do not care, oh illiterate Leftist, if is of their own freewill or not.  That is extremely disturbing behavior.  Which is no different than any other presidential supporters.  Really?  I have had none of Dole, none of Bush, and none of McCain.  Or any other.  When Obama dies then there will be monuments, and statues, and memorials because he is a historic figure, and former president.  Well, we'll see.  For some reason there aren't all that many statues for Benjamin Harrison and Millard Fillmore.  That will be left to people that aren't even born yet.   There is no Obama statue being commissioned by tax dollars to my knowledge.   The Economist in November 2008 reported that there were schools in the United States being named after His Majesty The Shahinshah.  I didn't like it when high schools were being named after Reagan before he died.  There might be statues dedicated to Him out there.  It would not surprise me in the least if there were.

Countries with dictators would never allow dissent, they would never allow protesters. They would imprison them on frivolous charges and kill or torture them, which you should know. Then you should also know that is not, not, going on in America, not now, not ever. Really?  Please explain what is meant by "politically correct" speech, "hate" speech, or why virtually all criticism of your God, His Majesty The Shahinshah, as routinely catalogued right here on NB, is called "racism".  Is it violent oppression, torture, maiming or killing?  No, but the end is the same: TO SHUT PEOPLE UP.

So you want to control what the American people can and cannot put up? Why you sound like Adolf Hitler/Stalin/Hussein. And I thought conservatives liked the first amendment, but apparently you don't.   Really, dummy?  Where did I say this?  You need to go back to wherever you "learned" how to read and demand a refund.

Go back across these posts and show me where I said that. If you cannot, then I demand an apology.

Newsbusters is hardly a reliable source for proof.  Really?  So why are you here then if this site is so illegitimate?  You sure like to contradict yourself here.  Obama has said that he wouldn't sign the bill even if it got that far.  What He "says" is different completely from what He will do or has done.  Notice the video at the top of the thread.  He implored MD voters not to vote for Michael Steele on the basis of skin color.  Then He went to TN and implored voters there to vote for Harold Ford because of his skin color.  He is a two-faced individual.  That is only one example I can think of.  His campaigning for the babying HR 3200 is another.  He keeps whining that "If you like the private insurance you have, you get to keep it!"  Really?  HR 3200's page 16 completely gives the lie to that comment.  He has said now as president and when he was in the Senate, he opposes the fairness doctrine.  Really?  He didn't do a whole lot of anything in His 143 days in the Senate.  Oh, He voted "present" a bunch of times.  You cannot measure what he stands for by His record in the Senate, unless you are busy chugging the Kool-Aid, which apparently you are, asking for seconds, thirds, and fourths.

If He opposed the Fairness Doctrine so damn much, as you repeated assure us all, explain His FCC chairman pick.  Explain others who intend to bring back the Fairness Doctrine in overt and covert ways.  And before you respond, brush up on your literacy skills.  This way you can do your homework a little better and not make an ass of yourself so often.

That was just about the most

That was just about the most nauseating thing I've ever seen.

What I want to know is how they can reconcile the gushy "luv vibe" with a man who's okay with wrapping a gasping baby in a towel and sticking her in a closet to die alone.

Their idea of love is something I can live without. Those people are scary.

They don't need everybody

They don't need everybody to worship him, nor a majority, nor a plurality...just "enough".

I'm still trying to figure out how many "enough" is?

I'm thinking it includes those who wouldn't vote for him again, but still support him simply because of the office of the presidency and these folks believe in law and order.

Somehow I don't think we as yet have any idea what's really going on up there.

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 86% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory.

Take the Last Ship to Hale-Bopp and......

It's either Obama's Waterloo, or it's America's Jonestown.

You decide.
