Do you want to be a servant to the President?
Any President?
Well, a number of some of Hollywood's biggest stars have actually made the following pledge in a public service announcement:
"I pledge to be a servant to our President!"
As this might make some readers ill, the video is safely embedded below the fold (semi-accurate, slightly tongue-in-cheek transcript available here, h/t Don Gallerani):
Those interested should watch an interesting debate about this video that occurred on Fox News Thursday:
I don't know about you, but I thought our elected officials were supposed to serve us.
Isn't a form of government wherein citizens serve their leaders anything BUT a democracy?
Makes one wonder how many Obama-loving media members will ask this same question.

This cult of personality is downright disturbing. These shallow minded entertainment types can't begin to distinguish the seeds of tyranny.
We live in a limited Republic, or at least what was once a Limited Republic. No one swore allegiance to anything or anyone other than God or the United States of America in this country. Swearing allegiance to some particular leader or even office of leader is alien to the founding principles of America. The Oath of office taken by all members of the military and government here is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and by extension, the principles of liberty which gave rise to it and, which it was intended to safeguard.

Actually, you are wrong
September 3, 2009 - 21:27 ET by mostlymoderateActually, you are wrong Balboa. Moonlighting was a huge success in the never-to-be-repeated (thank god) 80's. Bruce was on the cover of every tabloid you could imagine. Demi Moore was not a household name, Bruce was. The only movie that kicked her career off was "Ghost" and that was after they got married. Oh, and the only reason "Ghost" was a hit was because of Patrick Swayze. It was a "chick-flick" and "chicks" went to see Swayze, not Demi.
Besides "Disclosure", which was brilliantly done by Michael Douglas and Donald Sutherland, as well as Demi, what movies has Demi really defined? I can't think of any. As for Bruce, a loyal republican, I know that the "Die Hard" series alone were massive in Hollywood.
Demi is a nobody-has-been who nobody would even be talking about had she not robbed a cradle with Kutcher.

Willis has been the bigger star overall by far, obviously. Moore had her moments in Ghost (which was really Whoopi's show, IMO), GI Jane, and Disclosure. Even though she was in A Few Good Men, she didn't really do much. But I don't think Moore mooched off of Willis.

Yikes!
September 3, 2009 - 20:12 ET by maryerinThis video is a steaming pile of Liberal Propoganda staring actors who rose to fame in movies like 'Striptease' and 'Dude, Where's My Car?"
Some people say that is the trouble with Hollywood, some actors just get stuck doing one type of acting. Now I know it is called Typecasting for a reason!

Good choice of words from the most intelligent group of peoples in any administration evah! Slaves to the state boys and girls. Submit to the state. Allah wills it.
Yes. Submit is a synonym. Where else have we heard that word?

We joke that liberals have hailed Obama as the Messiah, but theres no doubt that liberals BELIEVE he actually is their messiah. They have rejected God and replaced Him with their own - government. They actually believe that he is the answer to all of the worlds problems.

September 3, 2009 - 22:15 ET by 24enakI don't see what all the fuss is about. Celebrities do PSA's all the time, about the same issues the celebrities "pledged" to in this PSA. I would understand the outrage if the celebrities said 'you should pledge to do _______.' But none did, they didn't tell anyone you should pledge to stem cell research, or autism, or anything, they all asked what will you pledge. What is wrong with that?
"Isn't a form of government wherein citizens serve their leaders anything BUT a democracy?" How about you ask that question when it goes to congress, or becomes mandatory, this is a PSA, not policy.
99% of what is said on the PSA no one should have a problem with, but it is the one line, the three seconds of the 4:00 minutes the "I pledge to be a servant to our president." Again they didn't say 'you should be a servant to our president'.
And the "semi-accurate" link was stupid, especially the part that went as follows "Natalie Portman, I think, possibly after a weekend oxycontin bender"
Natalie Portman has been a role model her whole life. She has never had any drinking or drug problems, she left acting to go to Harvard where she graduated with a degree in psychology, then went to study at the Hebrew university of Jerusalem, and speaks multiple languages.

September 3, 2009 - 22:21 ET by balboaI'll admit that it sounds a little creepy, but if Bush proposed this, nobody would be linking the word "service" to Islam.
And I know I'm the one always "coming to the defense" of celebrities, but that's usually because there's a lot of crazy talk whenever a liberal one makes any kind of political statement, and then "kudos!" for a conservative celebrity that does the same thing.
There are plenty of intelligent, level-headed celebrities. Just as there are plenty of K-Feds, Steven Seagals, and Paris Hiltons.
