Security Guards Remove Retired Cop from Town Hall Meeting

As the anger over the nation's movement towards socialism grows, Democrats' patience with town hall meeting protesters is clearly wearing thin.

On Saturday, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) instructed security guards to escort what ended up being a retired New York City patrolman out of a fiery Manchester gathering.

New Hampshire's Union Leader reported Sunday (video embedded below the fold, h/t Ed Morrissey):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Removed from the forum because he continually interrupted Shea-Porter and others in Manchester was Carl Tomanelli of Londonderry, who objected when her staff passed out health care stickers before the event began.

He claimed the stickers would be used to alert Shea-Porter to supporters. Later he told the New Hampshire Sunday News: "I'm not in favor of any health care reform Carol Shea-Porter is not a part of. If they want me to support it, I have to have the same health care as (U.S. Sen.) Orrin Hatch, or Ted Kennedy or (Christopher) Dodd."

He also objected that people outside Shea-Porter's Congressional district were in the room, including a young man who could not vote. He noted there were out-of-state license plates around the building. "It's a joke," Tomanelli said.

As the Nashua Telegraph reported, Shea-Porter has been speaking quite ill of such protesters:

She chose what sounded like a derogatory reference to opponents, some of whom sprang from the Tea Party rallies across the country against Obama's fiscal agenda.

"They walked around me and they're videotaping me," Shea-Porter said at the Spring Street home of an Obama supporter, according to Foster's Daily Democrat.

"I chose to go there because I wanted to talk to them about what this is really about. And I ask you to do that also. Don't be so divided and so put off that you don't feel like you can have a conversation."

That's fine and admirable, but this is when it got a little unhinged.

"Find those tea-baggers who don't like the idea of this and talk to them."

Nice...a United States Congresswoman using a sexual reference to castigate citizens.

Ironically, Shea-Porter used to be a town hall protester herself:

She stalked then-congressman Jeb Bradley at town hall-style meetings the 1st District Republican incumbent held throughout his district.

Shea-Porter's passion against the Iraq war and other Bush policies made her a darling of the liberal throng that came out to rock the house in September 2006 and deliver her a stunning blowout victory over former House Democratic Leader Jim Craig, of Manchester.

Will Obama-loving media share this event with the public or the delicious irony of a former town hall protester now speaking ill of such folk?

Carol shea porter is an arrogant dyed-in-the-wool liberal (she mis-represents my district). She's also as dumb as dirt. The only thing she does is pull the lever for liberals. Whatever the party line is -- that's what she does. I've tried voicing my opinion to her many times -- it's like talking to a pool of mud.

It's not surprising she acted like this. She's been told her ilk are royalty, and everybody else are serfs, to be ignored. The only reason she has won in the past is due to democrats moving into NH from Massachusetts, and very weak opposition. I think she will be one of the people removed from office in 2010. The Union Leader won't forget this performance.

bt....that video is a bit out-of-date....when I said "36 czars" a week or so ago, someone corrected me; it was then 38! He or she posted a list of them too!  They are going to have to publish a "Czar Directory" so that lawmakers and/or citizens can know where to address concerns!

These are all people with great regulatory authority, who answer to no one but the President! (Yes, I know you know that...but it can't be said too many times).

This President is arrogating power to himself and his own chosen inner circle at a rate unprecedented in our history!

We have to try to hang on until Nov. 2010! And hopefully put the brakes on this travesty!

bt,

Honestly, given the speed at which all of this is happening, I am beginning to wonder if there will be anything meaningful left of the America we all grew up in by November of 2010.

You know, I really hate to be the resident pessimist around here, as I know it grates on more than a few nerves here, but I am apparently seeing things in all this that most people are somehow missing.

When you step back and take it ALL in as a whole, it's a pretty damn frightening picture that is rapidly unfolding in this country.

the part I keep reading

"The Secretary shall establish a social and behavioral sciences research program to identify and understand social and behavioral factors that influence energy consumption and acceptance and adoption rates of new energy technologies, and to promote the utilization of the results of social and behavioral research to improve the design, development, demonstration, and application of energy technologies"

Near as I can weed out they want to know why we as a population aren't embracing green technology and how they can change that.  “Behavior Science Czar” sounds ominous indeed.  I think it should truly be “Green Job Propaganda Czar”.  The Obama administration and the democrats have invested a lot of money into the push of “green” energy and job creation.  For some reason the country isn't buying what they're selling and they don't know why.  So they need to contrive an angle that will sell it.  Afterall, GE needs the money :)

I can save them a lot of money with some simple advice.  Allow the free market to decide.  If energy producer’s can develop “green” technology that is cost effective (either in up front or long term savings) people will embrace it.  And in doing so, the producer who develops this technology should be allowed to profit from it.  This creates jobs and increases the overall total welfare of society.

By appointing another czar running another bloated, inefficient, government mandated propaganda wing is not going to solve this problem.  It’s not cost effective and not everyone believes in the lunacy of global warming. EOS

Lubyanka and the Gulags were filled with citizens who were declared insane because they disagreed with the direction of the government.

This behavioral czar already knows the template for declaring free citizens insane, and therefore not fit to live without extreme supervision. You can already hear the language Obamatons use when describing those who attend the town meetings.

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

Well..

The czars are the second definition (like banking czar).

Obozo is the Czar czar.

And the reason so many of the sub cabinet appointees are not hired?  Obozo doesn't want or care about them.  They have to answer to congress, the czars do not.  So, rather than having a bunch of answerable appointees, he has a bunch of czars who only answer to him, under EXECUTIVE PRIVILEDGE... meaning, they will never have to testify in front of congress (unless Obozo tells them to).

Interesting take?

A manager/leader gets to hire and fire people at will..that's the nature of the job.

kata's going way too easy on you.  I would say your theory is waaaay out there!

Even a manager/leader doesn't  get to hire as many people as he wants, and give them any title and authority he wanta.

And the President is more than a "manager/leadrer;" He is the Chief Executive of the United States. AND his job description, along with his duties, responsibilities, and accountability are plainly set out in the Constitution.

He is attempting to circumvent the Constitution, IMO, by hiring "Czars." No messy confirmation hearings, no one giving speeches in the Senate on his selections' background and history, that might make people question his pick.

I repeat: This President appears to be arrogating power to himself and a select inner circle, at an unprecedented pace.  Even his cabinet secretaries have their powers usurped by "advisers" in the WH who really run things.

I thought Glenn Beck said

I thought Glenn Beck said 44.

44 will be the total

There are five positions Obama promised on the campaign trail that he hasn't appointed yet, including one for autism (?) and others for equally tedious things.

I think these Czars, who

I think these Czars, who are exercising cabinet level authority, and have been appointed outside the normal advise-and-consent confirmation process of the Senate, constitute at the least a vioaltion of law, if not outright violation of the Constitution.

Article II section 2 makes it clear that the President may appoint 'inferior ministers' without the advise and consent of the Senate but only with the permission of the Congress.

"but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments."

All the rest are subject to the previous clause:

"and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the Supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law"

These Czars have more authority than any Ambassador has.  That would exclude them from the 'inferior minister' status as I read this.  The new Congress could do several things here:  abolish these Czars,  refuse to authorize funding for the Czars or anythiung they are doing, cut Obama's pay, or even impeach Obama and order him removed because he has exceeded his authority under the Constitution.

NL207--

"The new Congress could do several things here: abolish these Czars, refuse to authorize funding for the Czars or anythiung they are doing, cut Obama's pay, or even impeach Obama and order him removed because he has exceeded his authority under the Constitution."

But they probably won't because most of them are in Obama's pocket.

If the Congress continues as

If the Congress continues as it has, Obama's pockets will be emptied in November 2010.

The Obama approach is to

The Obama approach is to remake the country into Amerika.  He told us that during the campaign.  Those who voted for him but now don't support him ought to go back to his acceptance speech, the San Francisco campaign speech where he denigrated people for clinging to guns, God, and the Bible, and any speech where he was speaking to his liberal supporters.  These will tell you what he intended.

America is becoming a socialist republic

America is becoming a socialist republic. So no it is not the country it was once before.

Strictly speaking, the term socialist republic is used by socialists who wish to emphasize that they favour a republic form of government while ruling the country with socialism. To marxists, socialism is a stage of social and economic development that will replace capitalism leading to communism.  Therefore, a socialist state is a state that has ended capitalism and is moving towards communism.

However, some countries use the term socialist without claiming to follow communism. Some even argue that states which support a policy of welfare state provision or which practice limited state intervention into financial activity are socialist states.

Over the past few decades, the United States has steadily evolved from a nation of ‘producers' to one of ‘consumers'. The change has been celebrated by politicians and economists as proof of America's arrival at the top of the global economic food chain.  This development has depleted the nation of its hard-earned wealth, and has led us to the brink of ruin.

But rather than encouraging a return of America's productive energy, our government is responding to the growing economic crisis by simply trying to boost consumerism at all costs. Their strategy involves the socializing of losses among all citizens so that the depletion can't be easily discerned.

Government-run health care pushes this country away from the mild to moderate egalitarianism to a more of an ultra-egalitarianism with a socialist economy. Egalitarianism is a political doctrine that holds that all people should be treated as equals and a philosophy advocating the removal of economic inequalities among people which again means removing capitalism.

So the USA is moving away from both its free market principals and its democratic freedoms, as proven by the posted article in this section. You have politicians writing bills to give ultimate control of the United States access to the internet to the president, you have the White House asking for people to alert them to health care lies, and now they want to spend trillions on health care that the government does not have.

Gradually, Americans perceive that the proverbial powers that be are preparing to go beyond the political correctness that presumed to instruct them on what they can wear, what they can eat, what they can drive, what kind of washing machine they can have, what kind of controls are mandated for their showers, and what they can say. And it is well to remember that any time you have to be so careful about what you say, the society in which you live is going to be flirting with a police state.

How much?

I would like to know how much of our tax money is being spent by the Demo-Communist party to bus in people with no voting rights to attend these town hall meetings and keep out registered voters.

I live in New Hamshire and know for a fact most of those people Obama spoke to in Portsmouth were paid union thugs brought in from Massachussetts. It appears the same thing happened at this meeting in Manchester. These people can't vote in NH but prevent people who can from having a voice and we PAY THEM TO DO IT?

Where did our rights as Americans go?

Plus of course she isn't going to let in the Mayor who is going to run against her precious rear...she can't have that now can she?

Thanks for the info.

Hm. And didn't John McCain just recently have a Code Pink chick booted from one of his townhall meetings for not being willing to stop interrupting? Fox showed the video.

The real question is....

How much of an interrupter was this US Congresswoman when she was a regular town-hall protester against Jeb Bradley?

did she ever get booted for her interruptions and unhinged behavior?

I could carless what McCain did, what I care is how was the Congresswoman treated when she interrupted and how much did she interrupt. I smell complete and utter hypocrisy by a Democrat, no surprise.

Hypocrisy is something the left can't spell, let alone understand the definition of ...even if they looked it up and they saw their own reflections staring back at them.

We dont know.I am going by the video until something is brought forward.Until then you can assume anything doesnt make it right.

Frankly, I see no problem

Frankly, I see no problem with throwing him out. If you can't act civil, there's the door.

balboa

Of course you dont.He brought up that she had organized committees come there in the morning. How dare he bring it up.He was maybe loud but not screaming so what.It isnt like they are in little cafe.Oh maybe it was all the swear words he used.Opps he didnt swear.Maybe it was for addressing her as congresswomen. That is so uncivilized. He did ask if she was even from NH.Oh know.He should be flogged.

Quit getting all hysterical

Quit getting all hysterical on me. He was rude, yelling and interrupting. I don't have a problem with him being thrown out. That's all.

Balboa, I am glad that

Balboa,

I am glad that the Founding Fathers did not think or believe like you. Most of them would be thrown out of the townhall meetings today. John Adams, Samuel Adams, etc, etc, etc were quite rude, yelled and interrupted each other while they debated the liberties that we enjoy today. You should learn about the great political anamosity between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, many a times getting to yells and screams, but the two died being the best of friends. Incidently, the both died on the same 4th of July, 50 years after the signing of the Decleration of Independence, which by the way was declared after a great amount of rudness and yelling between the 13 delegations that represented the 13 Colonies. Learn some history, please.

The problem with America today is that most people are clueless about American history. They have been purposedly been kept ignorant or made ashamed of the Great American history. I am a Venezuelan, and sad to say, that I know much more American history than most USA born citizens.

I doubt you have the same

Balboa,

Don't assume so much. I have zero problem with anyone heckling politicians, Right or Left. So, if the looney toons at Code Pink want to hackle and interrupt a politicians they should be allowed to do so.

And you desperately need a history lesson from someone. I just gave you a little short one. I'll be glad to educate you some more, it might just change you from the lukewarm, mediocre Liberal that you are who loves to excuse the media and the wacky behavior from the left.

By the way, funny how you do not find it hypocritical that this Congresswoman used to be a hackler and an interrupter long before she was elected to our Congress. Today, she condemned the same type of behavior she engaged in. I don't know in your amoral book, but in my moral book, this is known as huge, incredible and pathetic hypocrisy.

you are as clueless as always.

balboa

Wow bal.Typical left wing response. If someone brings up facts respond that they must be "hysterical".Dont let the facts get in your way. Then again you never have.He had to be rude.He brought up about her bringing plants. He even thanked her when he left.Wow really rude of him.

well99, I'm talking about this:

Oh maybe it was all the swear words he used.Opps he didnt swear.Maybe it was for addressing her as congresswomen. That is so uncivilized. He did ask if she was even from NH.Oh know.He should be flogged.

I never claimed any of this, you just threw it in there. I have no problem with facts.

balboa

"Oh maybe it was all the swear words he used.Opps he didnt swear.Maybe it was for addressing her as congresswomen. That is so uncivilized. He did ask if she was even from NH.Oh know.He should be flogged."

I didnt say you did.I was trying to point out that he wasnt rude.He wasnt screaming either.Yes I used a sledge hammer instead of a hammer to make the point. Also I was wrong about asking her if she was from NH.As Queen Mum pointed out he was talking to someone else.I said I was wrong about that.

Forgive the interruption,

Forgive the interruption, well99. But I think the gentleman was addressing another person in the audience who was shouting at him, not the congresswoman, when he asked if that person was from NH. Just want to be accurate.

I can see that the guy could have been trying to hold his temper. IMO, the guy in the purple shirt should have been ejected as well.

So your minor error turned out to be helpful in that regard. Thank you.

I don't know what can be done to fix the problem which arises when one party or another is holding a townhall and the deck is stacked in their favor. But I know it goes on all the time, even on the local level.

This is Baghdad Bob, reporting from Podunkville, USA. The disinformation campaign appears to have finally died out. All the citizens who came out to the meeting tonight were unanimously for the health care bill. I talked to many people, and they were all excited about the prospect of universal health coverage. It's a new day, Katie. Back to you in the studio.

We're here, live, in the townhall meeting tonight. One after another, people are coming forward with their stories of denied coverage and begging for Hope and Change. The 'death panels' smear has finally been laid to rest. Back to you, Charlie.

Or didn't say anything?

There were no opposing voices in the crowd tonight. It looks like people understand the bill now and they're all for it. The vote will be made tomorrow and there is every expectation that it will pass unopposed. Back to you, Brian.

fitz: I guess I'm thinking

fitz: I guess I'm thinking short-term strategy. The left is using these protests to their advantage. Just look at all the articles on this site relating to how the protesters and Tea Parties are being portrayed. The portrayal is of course inaccurate, at the least. But the Kool-Aid drinkers believe it. I think that as long as Dems like this congresswoman can point to these outbursts as desperate means to get attention, they have the ear of Obama supporters. More attention needs to be payed to the union thugs and other outsiders who are showing up at these meetings.

I don't know what the answer is. I certainly don't really believe that the fight should be abandoned. I just think there needs to be a new strategy at this point in time. In fact, I think the Tea Parties are likely more effective than townhall protests. That is, if the MsM would pay attention.

I'll confess to having been off the reservation most of the weekend. I was just feeling a bit contrary. My apologies to any fellow N.B. who might have been offended by anything I had to say. Most was an honest attempt to play devil's advocate. But some turned out to be just plain nonsense. I have "recalibrated" my message and am beginning to feel like my self again. Sometimes senior moments tend to last a bit longer than just a moment. :)

QM: With all due respect, you're falling into a common trap here.  Allowing the left wing media to regulate your behavior because you are afraid of how you will be portrayed is pointless.  The media has a template, a narrative to frame...and it is always to promote liberalism.  If genuinely worried constituents were deterred by cynical accusations of "racism", "astroturfing", etc., the town hall meetings would amount to DNC lectures and the media would frame the issue around a phony claim of almost universal "concensus" in favor of this garbage.  Tell me, QM, what good did being "better than they are" do in 2008?  The left ran their hostile, intimidating, thuggish agitators to harass Republicans at every corner, and the media portrayed it as righteous if it was discussed at all.  Meanwhile, we nominated an ideologically incoherent "moderate" former POW war hero who was obsessive in "crossing the aisle" at all costs...and even before he selected Sarah Palin as his running mate (when he was considering Joe Lieberman and Tom Ridge, for God's sake), he was getting viciously attacked by the very people he spent his career trying to appease...Chris Matthews, Harry Smith, Charlie Gibson, Brian Williams, etc.  I'm so sick and tired of this attitude that we, as Republicans, must be seen to be better, more refined than Democrats are...we get no credit nor mileage from that posturing.  But you may be on to something.  I think we defend ourselves against media attacks by regulating our behavior...what we should be doing is going on the offensive and exploiting the real thuggery of the SEIU goons.  Lather, rinse, repeat.

"I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."  -George Best

You make some good points,

You make some good points, fitz. I don't think it mattered who the Repubs ran in 2008. And I can't blame anyone but the American people for being so short-sighted as to vote-in a virtually unknown entity for the sake of trying  to salve their spirits over a war that they were no longer willing to continue. Not to mention that the troubled economy turned out to be a bonus for the Dems.

I see nothing wrong with peaceful protest. That way we don't sacrifice principle for power. It seems anger has overtaken the dialogue. The anger is righteous. But it must be ordered such that the left has nothing left to counter with. IMO, going toe-to-toe with the SEIU and such in public meetings is counterproductive. More investigative journalism is needed to out these thugs and the Congressmen who support them. And I think this is starting to happen.

"The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out
of other people's money."

—Margaret Thatcher

QM: It took some courageous

QM: It took some courageous people to ride busses in the 1960s to face up to some racist bullies down south.  The town hall protestor who stands his ground against the threats and intimidation of the SEIU goons is every bit as courageous.  Union thugs have been able to mask their violence and intimidation with flattering media coverage and deceptive euphemisms (e.g. claiming to represent "hard workers" or "working families") because people fear character assassination by the goon-supporting media...hello, Joe the Plumber...and being victimized by Union violence.  The more that the Union threats succeed unchallenged, the more that tactic works and the more that they advance their agenda at our expense.  The time for worrying about perceived "counterproductivity" due to the framing biases of the media is over.  If the bullies are to be defeated, they need to be challenged...proudly and often.  If they lack the self-control to curb their violent tendencies, they weaken their position because their thuggery is there for all to see and speaks for itself.  I applaud courageous people like this cop who go into the lion's den and stand their ground.

~Not "physical"

We must simply not back down. We all have a right to speak our minds on this issue, and we should keep speaking it. The Left will hang themselves (so to speak) because they will turn violent when they know they're losing. Look at how much they've hurt themselves so far, being caught on tape hitting people. The leadership of the party isn't helping at all with the "un-American, Astrotrufers, mob, teabaggers" meme. They'll go down in flames of their own setting if we just stand our ground and get it all on tape. Let the people see the monster behind the mask.
