Most Republicans likely already think Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Penn.) is a joke, and Thursday evening he proved it when he took the stage at a Pittsburgh comedy club.
Appearing at the Improv in a benefit for Allegheny county's Music Festival Fund for children, Specter poked fun exclusively at Republicans including Bob Dole, Dan Quayle, Trent Lott, Alfonse D'Amato, and Howard Baker.
Proving just how much his allegiances have changed since his defection to the Democrats, although some of the material was taken from a previous routine he had done at the Washington Improv in 2007, a joke which back then involved Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden now featured Sarah Palin, John McCain, and Rudy Giuliani (videos in two parts embedded below the fold, sexual content warning, h/t Huffington Post):
In the end, Specter actually did a pretty good job, but couldn't he have done ONE joke about a Democrat?
Or is that not allowed now that he's one of them?

August 22, 2009 - 12:09 ET by allanfHere is a man who accepted help from George Bush, Rick Santorum and the Republican Party to win a tight re-election campaign in 2004. Republicans put up with his eccentric voting record. What does he do? He bolts the party. and ...
Most Republicans were glad to see Specter go.

August 22, 2009 - 14:34 ET by mattmThat's what pisses off the GOP rank and file about the Party: They have helped people who they should have opposed and they fail to help people who really deserve it.
Example: In 2008 a black Republican woman was running against Keith Ellison in Mpls, and the local GOP gave her ZERO help. They figured she'd lose anyway - and they were probably right - but they never think about the future. The GOP never looks past the current election and rarely, if ever, takes the opportunity of an election to promulgate their common-sense conservative message.
And when something like 2006 and 2008 happens, they blame the wrong people - like blaming Palin for McCain's ineptitude.

August 22, 2009 - 13:46 ET by SpokerIt is sooooo good to see the senator is right on top of things and spends his free time mocking those that are retired and no longer involved in national politics. In his sharp as a brick political way he must have forgotten what a nasty mistress Karma can be.
Specter's practising for life after politics
August 22, 2009 - 14:38 ET by jefflebowskiHannibal Specter is going down in 2010. He has nowhere left to turn except maybe the pitiful Green party. Maybe he's getting his comedy act geared up to have something to do after he's retired! He has lots of material....his public career!

I was very aggravated the my Senator, John Cornyn was going to back this idot before he changed sides. That's the Republican's biggest flaw. They would rather keep a loser like Specter, who votes with the enemy more often than not, than to help out a real conservative, who would always do what is right!

Democrats do the same thing, Gary
August 22, 2009 - 17:37 ET by GalvanicFor years, the Democrats suffered the presence of Zell Miller, a conservative Democratic Congressman from Georgia who regularly voted with Republicans, publicly criticized Democrats, and even started a "Georgia Democrats for Bush" organization for the 2004 elections. But no matter what he said or did, the Dems would not kick him out of the party for fear that he'd run as a Republican and still win. He had a secure seat in a conservative district, but it rang up "D".
The reason why guys like Specter and Miller are tolerated is because as long as they keep that R or D after their name, they score for that party in the head count to determine a majority.
