ABC's Gibson on Cindy Sheehan's War Protest: 'Enough Already'

When George W. Bush was President, ABC and Charles Gibson, like most media members, couldn't get enough of anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan.

Now that Barack Obama is in the White House, the host of "World News Tonight" is no longer interested in Sheehan, even telling WLS radio in Chicago, "Enough already."

I guess she served her purpose as reported by the Washington Examiner's Byron York Thursday:

In an appearance August 18 on WLS radio in Chicago, ABC News anchor Charles Gibson was asked about anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan's plans to travel to Martha's Vineyard next week, where she will protest the Iraq and Afghanistan wars while President Obama is vacationing there. Gibson, whose newscast and network featured Sheehan when she led anti-war protests outside President Bush's Texas ranch in 2005, answered, "Enough already."

Here's the partial transcript (audio available here):

It's such a sad story. Martha Raddatz [of ABC News] wrote a terrific book about one battle that took place in Iraq, and it was the battle in which Cindy's son was killed. And you look at somebody like that and you think here's somebody who's just trying to find some meaning in her son's death. And you have to be sympathetic to her. Anybody who has given a son to this country has made an enormous sacrifice, and you have to be sympathetic. But enough already.

Yeah, enough already, Cindy. Thanks for helping us get Obama in the White House. Now shut up.

ABC's Objectivity

Uncle Charley's comment of "Enough Already" is a wonderful example of the objectivety of the MSM. It only matters when the Republicans are in power!

Even more importantly . . .

It's the difference between a national issue and a national distraction.

By that I mean that when the hated Bush was President, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were the issues by which the MSM could define themselves.  Many editors and reporters seemed overjoyed at the opportunity for their generation of self-described journalists to finally have their very own "Vietnam" war.  We all recall the incessant coverage of anti-war demonstrations no matter how small and insignificant they were.

But now the MSM is behind Obama and his radical health care reform agenda, and any diversion of attention from that focus - such as old-news Cindy Sheehan and her anti-war antics - threatens Obama's agenda ,and is therefore unwelcomed.

So, the message from Gibson to Sheehan is:  "For crissake, Cindy, not NOW!  You'll derail the national health care bill!"

Gone also are the daily

Gone also are the daily death and injured counts and the wailing of quagmires.

Grim milestones?

There ain't no stinkin' grim milestones!!!

DAN THE MAN 2...

What you said is true & predictable, but the only thing you need to understand is this question...Who's ox is being gored?

Look, Cindy Sheehan is a tragic figure in many ways. Her soldier son died in action, & her reaction can be understood from that point of view. While I disagree with her, I will say she is at least being consistant, she is trying to be a pain in the @$$ of Obama & the Dems the same way she was with Bush & the GOP. So I'm not quick to slap her around as I would some college punk bitching about our military.

I'm Shocked

I really am shocked at this.  In re-thinking this, I don't know why I'm shocked but I am.

I'll bet no one is more

I'll bet no one is more shocked than Cindy Sheehan!

Gosh, she thought they really cared about  her.....

The words "useful idiot" come to mind.

Absolute moral authority

David Letterman once said that Cindy Sheehan had absolute moral authority.

Yeah. Enough already.

Sheehan was a useful tool

Sheehan was a useful tool for the manipulative Left.

Letterman is still a useless Liberal fool.

She Served Her Purpose

"She served her purpose" is exactly correct.  Now that the liberals don't need her dogging Bush any more, under the bus she goes!

Yeah, poor Cindy

can't even get any love from Code Stink.  It appears they're gong on another junket to "Palestine" to protest against the "evile" Israelis yet again, ignoring Cindy and her tilting at windmills.  Oh, that's right, that part of the country doesn't have windmills, they obstruct the view....

Cindy protested outside Bush's residence in Dallas, back in June of 2009.  Uh, Cindy, the election was in November of 2008, and your guy won.  You thought he was as radical and anti-American as you were, but you got pwnd.  Not that he isn't radical and anti-American, he's just not your kind of radical and anti-American, yet.

Had to comment

I usually just read the blogs and keep to myself.  But enough already.  That is, enough already with Charles Gibson and the like.  Did Duhbama promise to get us out of Iraq in 6 months ?  Whatever happened to that ?  I used to laugh at all the BS going on, but its turned to a basic hatred for it all.  When I was in college 20+ years ago, we used to make fun of Journalism majors.  Some said they were going to write the great novel.  Some said they wanted to be the next journalist to break the big story.  We Science majors knew they just couldn't handle simple math.  Hence the fluff major.  Now the MSM is just that, fluff.

Thank God the people are waking up...

The majority of people are waking up to how they have been used by the media to advance their agenda.  MOST people that is.  Poor, teary Cindy probably can't grasp that she has been used like a $25 prostitue and thrown aside; no longer desired.  I could go on with the metaphor, but you get the picture.

Perhaps even Cindy will wake up?   Nah, she is too thick-headed.

Neither worked; I just kept getting the reply page to my own comment!  Sorry, will try to get to links later.

thank you, dscott

This one worked.  I remember reading about this at the time.  I'll give Cindy this much, she is consistent.  Can't say as much for most on the left.

A liberal's generosity is limited only by your income.

Which is also why she isn't

Which is also why she isn't a Democrat either, she ran against Pelosi, how dare she!  What bunch of rubes and suckers, the Dems used you for their own purposes just to forment negative public opinion and then when it suits them you're tossed like an old shoe.  The Dem Party was for the war BEFORE they were against it when it was popular why else did Hillary and the rest of the Dem leadership flip flop on Iraq?

It must come as a great shock to all you pacifists out there that Obama who spoke so eloquently against the War from the beginning now is carrying on the exact same policies as the Bush Administration but with a twist.  Obama uses Predator drones to more efficiently kill the Taliban and al Qaeda with even fewer losses of US lives.  As every Democrat knows in their bones having learned it from the Vietnam War, domestic opposition to War is strictly based on the casualty count of our soldiers NOT the body count of the enemy.  Obama was never a pacifist, he only talked like one when it was convenient for this political aspirations.  What a bunch of rubes and suckers, he got your votes, your time and good name convincing people, your money and what did you get in return...USED.  But don't feel alone, Mr. Wagner of GM was contributor of Democrats as well and what did he get for his money?  So Cindy, you're not the only or latest dupe in the Dems using of people to stay in power.

Useful idiot. Maybe now her son can rest in peace.

Noel...

The MSM operates on a purely political template that promotes the Democratic Party's agenda, and their current attitude towards Cindy She-man, now that a Democrat is in the WH, shows their true stripes. They no longer have any use for this hag, whom we called a media whore. In fact, they used her like a slut and then some.

The anti-war protests were only necessary when a Republican held the White House. These were definitely organized by Marxist and Communist groups that were far from being a natural response. Remember the Chicago 7? Those f**king hippies didn't start protesting on intuition. Ha! They were trained and organized for the sole purpose of creating unrest.

The MSM provided all kinds of footage for the so-called war protests during the Iraq War. They employed any tactic that would defame GWB. This subject has been beaten like a dead horse, but it needs to be hammered home.

This proves that the #1 problem in the United States today is the leftist-leaning media. Without them, Barack Obama would still be community organizing (aka trouble making) today, and Nancy would still be in SF marching along NAMBLA supporters. Perverts.

2010: A GOP Hill

Well, well, well Cindy.

Now you find yourself no longer the darling of the media because you are now protesting their President.  How does it feel being kicked to the curb?  Yes we all know how your son gave his life in the war but how have you honored him?   You whined and moaned and got attention from the media and got addicted to it.  Now the media has thrown you from the bus and then under it like Obama did Rev. Wright.

I have to agree that I am tired of the whining myself but find the media’s lack of fairness and putting her out there in front like they did with Bush asinine.  It shows their inability to be objective at the news anymore

Liberalism: The huanting feeling that someone, somewhere, can help themselves.

don't you know?

Giving coupons for GM cars and free Viagra to old people is more important than leaving Iraq.

Apparently the 75 soldiers who've died in Iraq since Obama took office do not deserve any outraged protestors.

KIA under Bush = tragedy.

KIA under Obama = tough luck.

KIA under Obama is more like = Shhhhhhhh.

At least give Cindy credit

At least give Cindy credit for her consistency.  She may be tilting at windmills, but it's got to hurt to be trampled and abandoned by the left the way she has been.

Maybe she can make a fortune selling t-shirts that say, "I went to Crawford and all I got was used by the Daily Kos".

"Beauty is only skin deep, but liberal's to the bone." - me

Yep

At least give Cindy credit for her consistency.

I get the feeling she's honest about what she's trying to do. She has definitely been exploited, but I don't know if that makes her an idiot or just blinded by her grief. I don't think she's had an easy time of it.

I am the mob. Don't tread on me.

Having grown up with the Viet Nam War, and served in 1969...

I just have this to say about the squeezy Liberals and their mentality.

These people are sick.  They have no honor, no morals and no sense of rightousness.

All they have is a big fat agenda.  This agenda is anti-capitalist (they have no real alternative) and anti-establishment.

This translates to 'going with their gut' for the moment and discarding anyone who might have some actual reason to pursue some idealistic concept of an anti-war movement.

Now, I went to college before I went into the Army and I went to college after I got out of the Army.  I was lucky to actually get an education.  I studied Chinese and Economics trying to understand Revolutionary Theory.

Well, I couldn't get a job after graduation because no one was hiring anyone who know what in the world was going on, not just in Viet Nam but also in the world fight against Communism.

Now we have at least three generations of children who haven't a clue about enemies of the State.  In fact, to some degree they are enemies of the state.

Don't get me wrong here, I personally disagree with Cindy Shehan's take on Bush and her take on the War in Iraq.  However much one might disagree with her, she had the character to deliver in her long term angst against the war.

I feel sorry for her, but I feel sorrier for her son who gave his life in something he believed in ; only to have that belief trashed by his mother.

But, for the Liberal Left to dismiss her just because Obama is President is just another nail in their coffin of hypocracy and constant lies.

My feelings exactly, ACA

"I feel sorry for her, but I feel sorrier for her son who gave his life in something he believed in ; only to have that belief trashed by his mother."

I feel even sorrier, almost horrified, by the thought that she may someday realize how she trivialized her own son's sacrifice.

I can think of nothing more shattering to the soul.

Speaking of Cindy, remember the good old days when protesters were "loons" and "sore losers", and now they are just Americans voicing their first amendment rights. My how things change.

yawn

Everyone with half a brain knows last year's election was about getting revenge on Bush.

And incidentally, most of us still think Cindy Sheehan is a loon. This has nothing to do with taking her side. It's about telling Cindy "we told you so" that the MSM thought she was a loon too.

Do try to understand the purpose for NB's existence.

Excuse me, you government-educated moron, but where on this...

...site did anyone ever suggest that Cindy Sheehan did not have the right to protest the wars, or anything else, for that matter?

-Dave

Not on THIS site, Dave...

But the anti-war protesters constantly claimed they were being denied their 1st Amendment rights. Usually right in the middle of one of their demonstrations, and to any media that talked to them. Of course, no one actually called them "unAmerican."

Like, say, the Speaker of the House, for instance....

"Of those men who have overturned the liberties of republics, the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people, commencing demagogues and ending tyrants." - Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 1

Excuse me,

but where did I accuse anyone, on this site, of saying that Cindy Sheehan did not have the right to protest?

The link I provided was about how Fox News has did a complete 180 on their view of protesters. From calling them "loons" and "sore losers" to being Americans just voicing their minds.

Whoever educated you, must not have covered reading comprehension.

I read this 24enak guy and I start thinking he must be from...

Enough is never enough ...

And you look at somebody like that and you think here's somebody who's just trying to find some meaning in her son's death.

What? I thought the whole point of Sheehan's protest was that her son's death was senseless!

Gibson's dismissal of her story is all the more callous because he knows that wasn't what all that coverage was about and that the real reason no longer applies.

Quite a wake-up call, isn't it Cindy? I truly feel sorry for you.

metaphorsbwithu

Yep...Cindy Sheehan, the MSM's little darling...

has served her purpose, and now they want her to shut up and go away because she's going to protest their beloved Obamessiah. She was their goldengirl when she was blathering on at President Bush about the war, but they can't and won't tolerate her daring to do the same to Obama. Pathetic.

"The problem is not that people are taxed too little...the problem is that government spends too much." ~President Ronald Reagan

Media to Cindy, "Bush is gone so get lost..."

Sigh!

Cindy Sheehan has been chewed up and spit out...

...by the SRM. Their man is in power. Shut up and vanish, so saith Lord Gibson.

I have a measure of respect

I have a measure of respect for her. When BO go “elected” almost all the war “protesters” vanished into the woodwork. She has been vilified by both sides and made a fool of by the liberals. She is still protesting this war. After all of this she is true to her beliefs. Say what you will about her but she has stuck to her guns and after all the BS that has been heaped on her she is still fighting for what she believes in. You have to admire the tenacity.

Cindy's agenda has always

Cindy's agenda has always been about Cindy.  This was not about the meaning of her son's death.  She tore her family apart by dishonoring her son's sacrifice and memory.  Her son's memory must have been driving her this whole time as evidenced by her ear to ear smiles as she walked through airport turnstiles for one of many photo ops wherever she went.

Her protests and run for office were about promoting her own personal beliefs and agendas, and had nothing to to with the loss of her son.  She was, is, and always will be a narcissist of the most loathsome order.

She deserves no respect.

Funding

I find myself wondering who is funding Dear Cindy these days.  I always thought she was pathetic, but it's even worse now that she's being thrown under the bus.  And yet, the same thought keeps going through my head, "Who is paying for her protests?"  This is not a woman with means.  She never did have money, but when she was getting headlines protesting and annoying GW Bush, you know SOMEONE had to be paying for it.  So now that The Great One is President, who is paying for Cindy???

The only good thing Cindy

The only good thing Cindy has done is expose the hypocrisy of the SRM; I know it's not THAT hard to do but she has done it

.  Where is all the wailing and wringing of hands from those pathetic cretins in the SRM for our brave service men and women who have been killed or wounded since the Zero took office?

Oh to see them tossed out on the street.

The Obama Administration: THE most fiscally irresponsible Administration EVER

I actually feel sorry for Cindy Sheehan

First, she loses her son in combat, then the SCM and the freedom-hating left (same thing) used her as a weapong against GWB.

Now they have thrown the poor woman under the bus, as most of us here predicted they would.

No wonder she's nuts.

Cindy made her life and made

Cindy made her life and made her choices and should reap teh full consequences in kind.  I have no sympathy for her, but do admire her consistancy and she is supposedly going with here true beliefs; no matter what happens.

I could care less what

I could care less what Gibson says about this crazy woman.  As with most libs her act was always a sham and a show.

My son was in the 25 of the 1st Cav with Casey Sheehan in Iraq.  Casey was a good soldier, he was truly a patriot.  He volunteered for that mission on 4 April, they got ambushed and he and a lot of his buddies got killed.  If anyone ever cares to follow this up, you can see a memorial to these fine soldiers including Casey, right outside the 25 HQ in Ft Hood, Texas.

I have also been by that pitiful Camp Casey in Crawford, Texas.  It looks like it looked when these very same morons quit Woodstock.  I suggest you go to the Coffee Stop right in the middle of Crawford and talk to the folks in there.  How they feel about this woman.

My son wrote Ms Sheehan and informed her that Casey would not have approved of her doing what she continues to do.  He had many conversations with him, and Casey not once mentioned his Mama.  I think that is just a tad strange.  In any event, she never wrote my son back.  Typical.  Adios.

Thanks for sharing this information, I know I posted more than once about my feelings about this pathetic woman from long ago now...I still feel the same.

My gratitude to your son...and all who serve.

Very sad she never took the time to reply to your son eventually, as a mother, you would think she would, and want to know more, know everything about what her son experienced, felt, did there...this shows how shallow and heartless she really is.
