Obama in 2007 Said He Wanted to Eliminate Private Health Insurance

As President Obama repeatedly tells America that his plan for healthcare reform will not lead to the elimination of private health insurance, statements he made in 2007 and 2003 tell a different story altogether.

In shocking video uncovered by our good friends at Naked Emperor News, Obama, speaking at SEIU's New Leadership Health Care Forum on March 24, 2007, said, "My commitment is to make sure that we have universal healthcare for all Americans by the end of my first term as President."

Later in the discussion, he elaborated (video embedded below the fold):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

I would hope that we could set up a system that allows those who can go through their employer to access a federal system or a state pool of some sort. But I don't think we're going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately. There's going to be potentially some transition process.

In 2003, Obama stated at an AFL-CIO Civil, Human and Women's Rights Conference:

I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal healthcare plan...That's what I'd like to see.

Later in the video, viewers are treated to Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) saying on July 27 of this year:

I think that if we get a good public option, it could lead to single payer, and that's the best way to reach single payer.

Yet, the way media are reporting this issue, those who want to stay with private insurance -- which is the vast majority of Americans -- will be able to do so.

Will these new revelations about what Obama really wants make it to a news outlet near you?

Stay tuned.

*****Update: Here's a more complete transcript of Obama's relevant statement at SEIU's New Leadership Health Care Forum on March 24, 2007 --

As I indicated before, I think that we're going to have to have some system where people can buy into a larger pool. Right now their pool typically is the employer, but there are other ways of doing it. I would like to -- I would hope that we could set up a system that allows those who can go through their employer to access a federal system or a state pool of some sort. But I don't think we're going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately. There's going to be potentially some transition process. I can envision a decade out or 15 years out or 20 years out where we've got a much more portable system. Employers still have the option of providing coverage, but many people may find that they get better coverage, or at least coverage that gives them more for health care dollars than they spend outside of their employer. And I think we've got to facilitate that and let individuals make that choice to transition out of employer coverage.

Those interested can find a complete transcript of Obama at this event here and a video here.

What more do you need, how

What more do you need, how blatant can you get with this information and video....it says it all...and it had better make it to the networks, at least Fox, plus the repubs had better use this all loud, clear, strong and in unison.

O has just been letting congress-critters do what he really desires in the long run...while he pretends otherwise regarding single-payer etc...I won't even get into the union big-wigs, they are all communists as far as I am concerned...and as a quick add-on so is Jan Sherkowsky, congress-critter for Ill. (I know that isn't the correct spelling, but I know well who she is)...plus we all know where Frank fits in.

O is a double-talking liar....and the msm keep protecting him.

Good Catch, Naked Emperor News

This video will make it to Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, and all the rest, and it will have an impact, since more people are getting their information about political goings on at those places nowadays. This will go viral, as they say, and have a similar affect as the truth did on the Hush Rush radio bill. This is still America, where freedom reigns, and people vote.

I hope you are correct....and I think you are, going to be interesting this coming week.

And get ready for the big back-pedal spin....

That explanation is no longer operative.... George Stephanopolous, covering for President Clinton.

"This is still America,

"This is still America, where freedom reigns, and people vote."

Unfortunately, voting day is a long way off, and right now, dems write and pass the legislation. There's no way this isn't going through. They've been waiting 60 years for this chance, they aren't going to waste it, not even if it costs a few congress members their seats. And with districts drawn the way they are, even that isn't very likely, as far as the House goes.

And even if they do lose congress and the white house, this plan won't go away. That's why we still have social security, medicare, medicaid, etc.

Dumb Unions

I don't see why any of these folks in big unions would want anything to do with Obamacare. They tend to have the gold-plated medical benefits, many even into retirement, and many pay very little if anything into the plans through their paycheck. I have to assume that the fatcat union leaders are conning their members simply out of allegiance to anything under the big D. They have the most to lose, yet aren't wealthy enough to pay in cash as a backup plan when they get rationed out.

Some Congressmen have floated amendments to the Obamacare bills to exempt anyone in a union, don't know if those amendments are still in. Baucus (MT) in the Senate was pushing that amendment.

sw... I heard about that

sw...

I heard about that amendment too...if they don't get it passed I just bet the conference committee will slip in in somewhere in over the 1,000 page bill.

Here's some info on the Unions.

Doubling down on stupid is not a particularly good idea. ~Andrew Breitbart

Some Congressmen have

Some Congressmen have floated amendments to the Obamacare bills to
exempt anyone in a union, don't know if those amendments are still in.

Of course it will be.   You don't think the almighty unions are going to be treated like the rest of the hoi-polloi, do you?

Someone once said of the former Soviet Union that nowhere is class so important and so evident as in a so-called "classless" society.

For all the talk of equal health care for all, this is going to be at
least a 2-tier, maybe 3-tier system, depending on what's in it for our
congresscritters, as our friend bigtimer calls them.

The "universal care" or "public option" will be for those who are not important enough to have a gold-plated plan, and those who either can't afford their own or don't have an employer-provided plan.

You wind up there anyway

When George Bush started with the notion of "compassionate" conservativism, most of us knew how it would end up. It would end up with massive spending. Compassion doesn't matter in policy unless it's backed with dollars. So, the moment you invoke compassion, or mercy, or sympathy, or empathy, you can predict the result: huge spending. Why? Because if money = caring, a lot of money = a lot of caring.

The moment you insist that everyone has a right to healthcare, which is the central premise of their perspective (and which I vigorously deny), you know how it's going to turn out. The government will provide it. It's like dropping a hammer. You don't have to see it fall to know that it has fallen (to borrow a line from Star Trek). In the same way, it is a certainty that when you define it as a right, the government will control it. Slam dunk, every time.

So when they protest that government isn't going to take over ... don't bother listening to that noise. You know they will. The moment they call it a right, the game is over.

Now, if Noel can just dig up the Obama video...

...where he says he intends to destroy the private sector in its entirety (as he is currently doing with little or no resistance from ANYONE, including a lot of so-called conservatives) then, just maybe, we can derail this Train from Hell before the big wreck.

Maybe.

BK what a video.  This is

BK what a video.  This is our future if people don't start calling their representatives and going to townhall meetings.

Yeah Rad-

pretty scary. One of the things I've been wondering about, at least as far as how the administration/pelosi plan would address, are incurable diseases like diabetes and HIV. Both of these are costly to maintain, one is usually genetic the other a lifestyle issue. Will one be treated and the other not? How about MS? Or Downs? Autism? At what age does the government determine enough treatment is enough, or the cost has exceeded the maximum allowed? My guess is the Townhall answer to that would be, "well, we certainly wouldn't deny treatment for AIDS victims."

BK my thoughts exactly on

BK my thoughts exactly on HIV.  I think most diseases would be scrutinized based on who they affect.  Leads me to wonder how the pharmecuetical industry views all of this.  Will they be told what to produce and not produce?  Will the government force vaccines on people (I'm thinking of gardicil which my daughter and I have discussed and since it's behavior related we chose not to get her).

Bkeyser...You are asking the

Bkeyser...You are asking the key questions regarding Obama's healthcare rationing bill.

The most important feature of the "cost savings" feature of Obama's bill is health care rationing. He has denied this, of course. But it's right there in the bill.

In other words, it's legalized (if it passes) eugenics. This will include coerced abortion, sterilization, denial of meds which some government committee has decided are too expensive and minimilized procedures.

I read an article the other day which stated that with the nationalized health care program in the UK, mammograms for women over 65 were not being allowed. Women over 65 have to purchase very expensive private health insurance in the UK to get their annual mammograms. You can bet that's a real possibility here with the passage of the bill.

I've written to my Congressman four times with questions about the bill. All I get back is a pathetic canned response a about the "health care crisis" in the US. There's no crisis now, but there will be if this bill passes.

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

I think the country is waking up. Only problem is the country, just like those responsible Congressman and Senators, can't stop him!

Obama will get something out of this, but it will be far less than he wants. That will put him in Dutch with his loony lefty base, and the bloom will be off the rose. Everything falls from there; fund raising for Obama and other Dems, the certain urge people felt to vote for he and other Democrats.

Meanwhile, people are growing more infuriated by the day. There's no way Obama can get this health care thing near what he wants before 2010. There will be a voter backlash, and new legislators will change the laws. Welfare laws, in place and growing worse since the 1960s, were changed in the 1990s and welfare reform was achieved. That was much more under the radar than this.

We have to let it unfold, and so far all the breaks are going against the Democrats.

I thinks it's obscene that those who warned about all these things during the campaign were called "fear mongers", and now that they're actually happening, the same people want to make us believe none of what we see and hear is taking place.

Obama said he wants to destroy the coal industry, the oil industry, to make our utility bills skyrocket to force us to conserve, to control what and where we drive and where we live, to reduce our standard of living, to sacrifice so that the rest of the world can catch up with us ... when is the msm going to admit what his agenda really is?

Re Illegals

Yes illegals; here's a current summary of some of the horrors of the House Obamacare bill:

What's Really Inside the Democrat WelfCare Bill:  http://directorblue.blogspot.com

One of my favorites:

"Pg 58 HC Bill – Government will have real-time access to individual’s finances and a National ID Health Care Card will be issued."
"Pg 59 HC Bill lines 21-24 Government will have direct access to your banks accounts for electronic funds transfer."

Funny isn't it, those same liberals that go nuts over the prospect of having to show ID when you vote, "because it's so difficult for some folks to get those IDs", have not problem with a National ID Card, or excuse me, a Government Health Care card. And President George W. Bush's SWIFT program to intercept terrorist funding drove them into a frenzy, but Obamacare will give the government access to all of your bank accounts and finance records.

I'm all for it...as long as

I'm all for it...as long as something better can replace it.

I believe it's immoral putting a premium on people's lives and well-being.

So, now I come full circle with the realization that the government bureaucracy would be even worse in this regard.

Deregulation and free market competetion is what's needed.  I'm not completely in  sympathy with the malpractice part...I believe many of these doctors are little more than quacks who are in it only for the money and the prestige of being a physician.

But, why should competent doctors have to pay high malpractice insurance premiums?

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).

"Yet, the way media are

"Yet, the way media are reporting this issue, those who want to stay with private insurance...will be able to do so."

Sure - and after the Lusitania was torpedoed, people who wanted to stay on board were also able to do so...

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.
