As NewsBusters has chronicled over the years, Roseanne Barr has a history of doing and saying some truly disgraceful things, but this one really takes the cake...or the cookie in this case.
Her most-recent tailspin into the gutter involved a photo shoot with Heeb magazine wherein she is seen wearing an Adolf Hitler moustache and swastika as she takes burnt gingerbread "Jew Cookies" out of an oven (pictured right).
In another, in same costume, she is shown about to take a bite out of one of these burnt cookies (picture below the fold, h/t Justin McCarthy):
The article associated with these disgusting pictures claimed:
As the “Domestic Goddess” dons the famous moustache, transforming into “Domestic Goddess Hitler,” I notice that she’s beginning to have fun. She nails the Fuehrer’s facial expressions with twisted glee, and as she takes the burnt gingerbread “Jew Cookies” out of the oven it occurs to me that Barr may be the last celebrity utterly incapable of giving a f**k—a quality theoretically easy to embody until it’s time to face the practical repercussions. “Franklin Ajae, Paul Mooney, Mort Sahl and Dick Gregory’s passings will tear my kishkas out,” Barr laments. “They gave everything they had to just tell the truth, and they couldn’t make a decent living because of the choice they made—not selling out to Hollywood.”
Well, I'm not sure what I'd like to do with her kishkas, but I do have to wonder why a magazine targeting Jewish readers would find this appropriate. A quick look at Wikipedia provided some answers:
It has become known for its satire and sardonic approach to reaching Jewish readers of all streams. One phony ad campaign that was designed to make a point was an application for “new United Nations ambassadors”. It was a mail-in test that determined just how anti-Israel the test taker was, and the more against Israel you tested, the better the chance you had of being accepted. Heeb reported that they actually received hundreds of applicants. In a late 2006 edition, a live pig was photographed running across a traditional Sabbath dinner table. Heeb’s satirist, David Deutsch, who used his own table to stage the photos asked his rabbi if it were kosher to use a live pig on his table for this purpose, as pig meat is considered unkosher. His rabbi said that kashrus wasn't a problem, but recommended that he wash the table afterwards.
The magazine is decidedly anti-establishment and left-wing. It frequently criticizes mainstream American Jewish culture, most famously in an article entitled "Joe Lieberman is a Dickhead." The author of the piece took Lieberman to task for favoring an increase in military spending. Other writers who have contributed to Heeb include Allen Salkin, who wrote "Where Have You Gone Sandy Koufax?", an article about Jews obsessed with Jews in sports, and "Why are We So Guilty?".
Maybe I need to get a better sense of humor 'cause I'm not sure I'm getting the joke. Apparently, neither did one of the magazine's readers:

I think to top it off, she should go to a synagogue, grab her crotch and spit on the torah, then botch the opening canting lines to Bar Mitzvah rites..

she was craazy back then
July 30, 2009 - 13:53 ET by candanceShe got her show based on her stand up comedy routines in the early 80s. Way back then she was an angry man-hating moonbat. Take some time to watch a few episodes with a critical eye. The show went out of its way to promote homosexuals. On several occassions, the characters specifically attacked "right wing politicians" and bemoaned trickle-down economics. I remember one episode in particular when Roseanne's grandmother got riled up about talk radio because the partipants were "not the brightest people" and she couldn't let their echo chamber go unchallenged.
The liberal agenda was there early on, but it was subtle. I am not surprised by Roseanne's life now.

July 30, 2009 - 14:52 ET by general companyAnd caught a few episodes, one last night was about her sister, she was in a relationship with a guy who beat her, and she was in denial. A very important topic I thought. Then I saw one where her kids were being influenced by a trouble making "friend" and she confront them head on, also thought is was very important. Plus her husband is a contractor, they live hand to mouth. I have been impressed with the relatively few shows I have seen, they were funny and relivent. And I cant believe the same woman does this type of crap.

-With the exception of her husband, every man on the show was either gay or a jerk.
-Since her children grew up to be flaming liberal vegetarians who took birth control in high school, apparently her parenting skills didn't work very well.
-They lived hand to mouth because evil capitalists moved all the jobs away.

July 30, 2009 - 17:41 ET by UnsaneAstute observations, candance. I never thought of the angle on the male characters, oddly enough.
I saw this show as well and was stunned to see the plug was pulled on it...in 1997! It had ceased to be funny around 1990, its third season.

I always like "Ellen"
July 31, 2009 - 08:18 ET by Gecksuntil the season she "came out". Then every episode was about her being a lesbian. "Roseanne" had alot of social commentary in it, and did alot of episodes that revolved around lifes lessons. But, in those episodes, her liberalness was subtly embedded.
I remember one episode where she was talking to her sister Jackie about boyfriends, and they were discussing how many men Jackie had slept with in her 40 years. Being sexually active at 17, having 2 or three boyfriends a year, they did the math and decided that Jackie had slept with 52 to 78 men in her lifetieme. And this was in the early 90's. Given the penchant for more and more one night stands these days, it would be easy for women to do that in 10 years or less now. And people wonder why I do not advocate spending governement money on AIDS medications for morally loose people. Cruel, I know, but young people think that there is a cure for AIDS, when there is only a very expensive treatment that in ongoing for the rest of thier life.

July 31, 2009 - 10:05 ET by Roger the ShrubberYeah, but think of all the successful acting careers that show launched. Laurie Metcalf was in "Uncle Buck" and the one guy was little Danny Noonan in "Caddyshack"... and the lesbian daughter did "Poison Ivy"...
There was, um, well, John Goodman did "King Ralph", and Sarah Chalke was on "Scrubs" (two thumbs up from this Shrubber)... And that Johnny Galecki is on that CBS sitcom "Big Bang Theory", so, there's not much to show for a decade-long sitcom,...

Well . . . .
July 30, 2009 - 20:47 ET by DoktorFrankenI hate the Left. Was that just Hate Speech? Yes, I think it is. Do I care? No, I do not.
Crying ''Hate Speech!'' is yet another of Alinsky's tactics:
RULE 3: ''Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.'' Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty. (This happens all the time. Watch how many organizations under attack are blind-sided by seemingly irrelevant arguments that they are then forced to address.)
RULE 6: ''A good tactic is one your people enjoy.'' They'll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They're doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones.
RULE 8: ''Keep the pressure on. Never let up.'' Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new. (Attack, attack, attack from all sides, never giving the reeling organization a chance to rest, regroup, recover and re-strategize.)
But - and this is a big but (not unlike Rosanne) - the Left can, and does, spew all of the hate-filled venom that they can without fear of retribution from the media or their peers. This is, as opposed to what the Left lives in, Reality.
