On August 14, some of the nation's most prominent conservatives will be gathering in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but former Republican Senator Arlen Specter (D-Penn.) won't be there.
Instead, he's decided to attend the Netroots Nation gathering (formerly known as YearlyKos) right down the street.
Stealing a theme from "Star Wars," I guess the transformation is complete (h/t Rachel Alexander):
On Friday, August 14, Sen. Arlen Specter and Rep. Joe Sestak will join us in Pittsburgh to take questions directly from you.
The Netroots Nation Pennsylvania Leadership Forum, scheduled for Friday morning at 11 a.m., will give you and your fellow attendees an opportunity to engage both leaders in substantive discussion about issues of the day.
Rep. Sestak and Sen. Specter will each participate in an interactive session moderated by Pennsylvania blogger Susie Madrak and The Nation's Ari Melber. Much like our Presidential Leadership Forum back in 2007 and our Ask the Speaker session last July, each participant will be asked questions solicited online in advance, as well as from the audience.
I guess Specter felt it more important to gather with the far-left in the nation as opposed to attending the RightOnline Conference whose speakers include:
Michelle Malkin
Conservative Columnist & Best-Selling AuthorPat Toomey
Former CongressmanSteve Moore
The Wall Street JournalErick Erickson
RedState.comJohn Fund
The Wall Street JournalJim Pinkerton
Fox News ContributorR.J. Harris
Talk Radio HostErik Telford

HotAir.comJoe the Plumber
Conservative ActivistMatt Lewis
Politics DailyRonald Kessler
Newsmax.comGrover Norquist
Americans for Tax ReformJohn Peterson
Former CongressmanTim Phillips
President, AFP FoundationPhil Kerpen
Fox Forum & AFP Foundation
Good call, Arlen. This should help you win back Pennsylvania Republicans who already feel betrayed by your most recent switch to the Democrat Party.

Go figure
July 29, 2009 - 18:10 ET by Joe CamelGo figure. I had this man pegged when he went after Judge Bork. I have no interest in what another old dolting fool has to say in life.
Pfffft,
July 29, 2009 - 18:12 ET by UpNorthGo ahead Arlen, go hang out with the commies, socialists and union goons. We really are glad you found your true feelings. Until you need some R votes, that is.
And this is surprising,
July 29, 2009 - 18:15 ET by motherbeltAnd this is surprising, why????
Alan Specter is out for Alan Specter, first, foremost, and solely.
Now that he's abandoned the Republican party, and the Democrats are neither accepting him with open arms nor promising a bye for the primary, he's trying to scrape up whatever support he can, from whoever and wherever he can. Apparently he's letting them know that he can be bought.
Not that it's going to help him. I still expect him to retire before the primary "for health reasons."

July 29, 2009 - 19:05 ET by doug1950Those were my thoughts exactly. Spector has never been a conservative for one thing and as you so aptly pointed out he is not welcome in the ranks of the Dems either. Even they can recognize a turncoat when they see one, so they have really have distain for him as much if not more than Repubs. The only place left for him at this point is to hang with the flakes and freaks to try and gather some sort of support. It is past time for him to go sit on the porch and enjoy whateve time he has left on this earth.
Spot on, motherbelt
July 29, 2009 - 19:46 ET by GalvanicThe weasily Specter changed political parties in an attempt to save his job, and now he's up against some stiff competition in the form of Rep. Sestak.
With a tough PA Senate primary race against the younger, smarter Sestak looming, why would he hand the Dem nomination to Sestak by begging for forgiveness from a conservative convention?
Besides, he ain't sorry.
It's a dog-bites-man story, Noel.
I am so glad this RINO is

July 30, 2009 - 01:36 ET by Rush Fanpossible. Do you know if Powell has given a reason for continuing to call himself a Republican when he voted for Obama and not liberal RINO John McCain?
------------------------------------------------
"Powell's not a Republican. McCain's not a Republican. These guys are not even mavericks. They are Washingtonians. Washingtonians have their own culture and their own desires, and it is to matter. They don't care who's in power, they just want to be closely associated with whoever is. That's the name of the game and they want press adulation. They want to be loved and adored by the media, they want fawning treatment, they want to be thought of as something special, unique, dignified and so forth, and that's the Washington establishment." ~ Rush Limbaugh
Powell ia an opportunist
July 30, 2009 - 07:26 ET by nadadhimmiPowell will support whoever will provide him with the most political milage. Race was also a factor in his decision. Powell is a political prostitute.

I see nothing wrong with Sen, Specter attending the Nutroots
July 29, 2009 - 22:52 ET by Rush FanNation gathering. He has been fond of nuts for most of his career, and has voted with them in the Senate many times.
I applaud Sen Specter for going back to his roots. I mean nutroots.

July 29, 2009 - 23:27 ET by seesalrunI watched Powell on King last night. Not newsworthy?
I thought it so. Such a pandering and slobbering self absorbed affair.
So what
July 30, 2009 - 08:54 ET by katiejanewhy would Conservatives want him to attend their gathering? He should be shunned. Hopefully some Dem challenger will whip his hiney in the primaries and we will see and hear no more of Spector.
July 30, 2009 - 09:25 ET by jessieHTo run as a GOP to get elected and switch to a DEM. after you are is a form of treason to his state, and it's people. Penn. should impeach his ass.
