Frum
July 25, 2009 - 20:47 ET by BW222The best thing that can happen to the GOP is if Frum leaves it.
He is an absolute joke.

Don't you mean that would
July 25, 2009 - 21:56 ET by Free StinkerDon't you mean that would be the 2nd best thing after Sarah Palin showing up? ;-)
Frum is in the GOP? I have
July 26, 2009 - 00:42 ET by mostlymoderateFrum is in the GOP? I have never heard of this guy until seeing this video and I thought he was your typical San Francisco liberal.
We need his demographic

Meh. Much ado about
July 25, 2009 - 21:01 ET by fitzfongMeh. Much ado about nothing. I actually kind of felt sorry for Bay Buchanan as she made a very reasonable case at the beginning of the segment, only to have David Frum and Ann Coulter step over her response to the second question that was directed at her. Frum was soft and incoherent, as usual, but he managed to appear less smug and obnoxious than he typically is. Ann was Ann. Nobody walks over her, though she'd help herself not to interrupt questions directed at other guests. As for Palin's future, it's a bit too early to tell. I think she has potential as a future Presidential candidate, but I believe she really needs to become more authoritative on discussing certain policy issues. It's not enough that she carries the same ideology that we do, she needs to be better at articulating why she believes what she believes...connecting the dots so that she's the one who ambushes the media the next time around.

Great analysis, well said.

Respect is Earned
July 27, 2009 - 14:12 ET by UtherpendWhy should Ann not interrupt them when they are spreading lies and false accusations? Screw these RINO's and their mealy mouthed "opinions". They have PDS and will never vote for her, so Ann needs grind them into the dirt. Until the rest of the Republican party wakes up and FIGHTS back we will never regain our position we had under Regan. Sarah has the wits and the right frame of mind to get us back in the Presidential Office. After all a man with no expericance and lack of communication was elected due to how well he read a teleptompter.

Tabloid TV
July 25, 2009 - 21:25 ET by needleLet’s see: ConnivingBS lines up Ann Coulter and two conniving RINOs – why not a couple of rabid liberals while we are at it? – to discuss Sarah Palin’s future. Sure, Ann is more than a match for the two RINO saboteurs, but together they were able to out-shout Ann. The two RINO saboteurs sound like The Big Zero without his teleprompter; they have no idea what Sarah Palin is going to do, but they are “concerned” about it. What they are really afraid of is that the electorate is going to leave them sucking their thumbs.
The corrupt RINO’s are hardly any better than accomplices of the corrupt liberals. They won’t discuss Sarah Palin’s accomplishments for the same reason Dracula does not want to discuss Buffy’s dexterity with wooden stakes.

Saturday Morning CBS Early Show.
July 25, 2009 - 21:41 ET by blazermaniacIn Western New York, we don't get either of the weekend shows. Our CBS affiliate & its sister station show something more important. It's either local news or a paid informercial. I could care less about people debating the situation of Sarah Palin. If a network person is involved, then it will be biased. Sarah Palin still has the state run media going crazy! And that is a GREAT thing!
So you want garbage...
July 25, 2009 - 22:10 ET by needleI live in the Boston area – not neo-racist Cambridge, thank goodness – so I presume I “get” all the garbage you are spared, but I surely do not watch it; that would be worse for my health than ObamaCare.
I think you got my main point: these elitist – barring Ann – are simply not equipped to understand Sarah Palin, so their discussing her is ridiculous. And on top of that there is the rich irony of their “concern” that Sarah will perhaps never be able to understand all of the really sophisticated things about which these elitists are so knowledgeable, for example, those thousand page bills Congress whips up over night in smoke filled rooms and passes into law ASAP without reading.
Watch the price of tar and feathers; these may take a jump next year.

July 25, 2009 - 21:48 ET by BKeyserWhere do these RINO's keep coming Frum? Bay Buchanon? The aforementioned Frum? David Brooks? John McCain? Colin Powell? And the list goes on... Look, if you don't believe in what the party stands for, just Spector on over to the other side- we don't want you and we certainly don't need you.
And sorry if this offends anyone here but "moderates" are simply people who aren't generally strong enough to take a side and stand by it's principles. I respect hard-line progressives more than these folks...
Amen
July 25, 2009 - 22:45 ET by Scout FinchWhen I watch people like Bay Buchanan and David From, I can't help but feel like these people operate on the principle "but what will my media friends think of me if I support Sarah...."
Grow some b...principles and do the right thing. Quit being Democrat Lite.

July 25, 2009 - 22:34 ET by KC MulvilleThey put on three conservatives? Or at least Republicans? No liberals?
Hmmm - they don't do that very often. Hell must be hosting a snowball.

July 26, 2009 - 00:48 ET by mostlymoderateRush Limbaugh was probably right when he said the GOP leadership doesn't like him. If people like Frum are GOP'ers, they are RINO's and RINO's are the polar opposite of Rush Limbaugh and conservatism.
Two RINOs against Ann
July 26, 2009 - 01:27 ET by RR GOPTwo RINOs against Ann Coulter. I imagine if given the chance they'd be extolling the virtues of Romney, Huckabee...anyone except Sarah Palin.
Can't we hold elections and force individuals out of the Republican Party?
One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).
Sarahcuda!
July 26, 2009 - 06:25 ET by cjbreischDoes Sarah Palin need to work on her image? Yes.
Does she need to improve her knowledge of economics and foreign policy? Maybe. The current occupant of the White House is a complete dunderhead when it comes to both of those topics, but he does speak somewhat eloquently on the subjects with the help of TOTUS, and he's a Democrat, so the press gives him a pass.
Was she right to step down as Governor? Absolutely.
Who is more derelict in their duty? The person who wins the Governorship, accomplishes all of her administration goals in 3 years, and turns over the reins to someone who will continue in her footsteps? Or the person who becomes Senator and immediately starts running for President, missing over 80% of the votes in the process?
Can she be a viable candidate for the GOP in 2012? I don't know. I hope so, but she may have too many hurdles to overcome. For me personally, I will never again vote for a faux conservative. Mitt Romney has a much steeper climb to get my vote than Palin does.
Palin/Gingrich 2012!
"Can she be a viable candidate for the GOP in 2012?"
July 26, 2009 - 07:11 ET by GPSShe can't be viable without winning Independents. There are no polls saying she's either won or even winning enough Independents to be competitive.
Furthermore, the polls continue to show growing, albeit slow, negative views overall, across Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.
I can't imagine what she could do to turn this around, can you? No book will do it. What else could she possibly use to rebound? After today she won't have a record of amazing new feats as Governor to leverage.
So what else can she do?
Palin was assassinated.
"Here Lies the Political Career of Sarah Palin,
Murdered by Liberal Journalists"
Well, of course not...
July 26, 2009 - 07:45 ET by cjbreischWell, of course she hasn't won independents. The media has defined her. She has not been allowed to define herself.
The first rule of politics is that when you let the enemy define you, you lose.
She will have to spend the next 3 years defining herself. This can be done through op-eds (the one in the Washington Post was a good start), speeches, fundraisers, etc. And she absolutely has to get the Republican elite on her side.
There are a number of ways she can do this, but foremost is presenting policy ideas that resonate with the American people and backing candidates that support these ideas. It's a tall order. Can she do it? I don't know. I'm lousy at predicting the future. And I'm not going to pretend to give her advice.
Could you help me with
July 26, 2009 - 12:37 ET by fitzfongCould you help me with something? Because I, for the life of me, can't figure out the answer. What the hell do "Independents" want? Do they even know? I hear and read self-described "moderates" like David Frum, Colin Powell, David Brooks, Kathleen Parker, The Crunchy Conservative (whatever the hell that is), Ross Douthat, David Gergen, Meghan McCain, Peggy Noonan and others carrying on about who they like and don't like and about what "tone" Conservatives ought to be taking. They are never specific about what their ideological or policy concerns are, but they reserve a special right to complain and to congratulate themselves for not agreeing with everybody/anybody (as if that, in and of itself, is a virture). As far as I can tell, they have no principles, and simply hand their votes out to whichever major candidate is more willing to acknowledge their existences. I hear constantly how Sarah Palin (or insert your favorite Conservative whipping boy in her place) must "appeal to Independents and moderates"...the same "Independents" and "moderates" who voted for a radical socialist against a "moderate"...but they never offer how, specifically, to do that. If it's as simple as running an empty suit who uses soaring, evangelical rhetoric to say absolutely nothing and hide his real ideology, I'm sure the Republican Party can churn out someone fitting that description. But do you honestly think that that Republican will get the media hands-off treatment that the community organizer got...or will he/she get harassed like McCain and Palin did? So, instead of suggesting that Sarah Palin needs to appeal to "Independents", why don't you define what the hell an "Independent" is, what the "Independent" stands for and what the hell an "Independent" wants (ideologically). Perhaps that way, Palin and other Republicans can properly pander to this highly sensitive voter bloc.
"I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered." -George Best
Excellent question
July 26, 2009 - 13:04 ET by katiejaneWe do hear constantly how the GOP can't/won't win because they don't appeal to Independents & Moderates. As close as I can figure it out, those groups want the GOP to become Dem-lite. The GOP has to dump all that value stuff that makes the middle "feel" bad - like marriage, abortion, religion, self-reliance.
But you never hear the Independents whining at the Dems about becoming less lunatic so it's hard to see why they'd give up that Party and swing over to a quishy softer GOP.
fitz,
July 26, 2009 - 14:46 ET by Chris NormanMy position is that the "moderates" don't want anything, because their whole philosophy is based on nothing - other than not being what the two real political philosophies are. How can one stand for anything that is based on the empty space between the two sides?

Maybe a shadowy conservative group should start making waves with the two Obama staffers fingered as being behind many of the attacks.
I don't agree with his part-conclusion as it was a smart move on Palin's part in resigning. As will be proved in the coming months.

July 26, 2009 - 12:50 ET by fitzfongThis is a ship that would be run by the women (Malkin, Coulter and Ingraham), but where the useless male crew (McCain, O'Reilly, and Graham) would have to be thrown overboard because their productivity relative to the burden of sheltering them amounts to dead weight. Meanwhile Shemp Smith (who, as a committed lib would have no pretense to even be on this boat) would be hiding in the ship somewhere powdering his face and trying on Sarah's clothes.

I like this info. The more these types in the GOP open their mouths the more assured I am that Palin would indeed be the best choice...if she chooses to run that is. Would be disappointed if she didn't, but wouldn't blame her either.
