You can't help but smile at
July 18, 2009 - 18:11 ET by dumbanguishYou can't help but smile at his excitement about man landing on the moon.
i was six years old when neil armstrong made that footprint.
July 18, 2009 - 21:39 ET by puredmashiemy dad saved the newspaper from that day. he still has it, but it's a lot yellower now. i also remember praying with all my might for jim lovell and his apollo 13 team of fred haise and jack swigert. it's still hard to believe they brought the lads home safely with nothing more than slide rules, vacuum tubes and a whole lot of coffee, cigarettes and american ingenuity. my mom and i sat riveted to the tv, and walter cronkite kept us informed of their progress right down to when the chutes opened and they emerged on that navy carrier. it was the first time i saw my father cry, a sight unseen to me until then.
walter cronkite was the face of cbs news for more than a generation. he was more than a tough act to follow. he was an icon, in every sense of the word. the news presenters of today could learn a lot from him.
thank you for posting that.
swing hard in case you hit it.
I wish I could have been
July 19, 2009 - 01:29 ET by dumbanguishI wish I could have been alive to see the Apollo missions. I hope that I live long enough to see us return to the moon and eventually land on Mars. That would be amazing.
It really is kind of sad
July 19, 2009 - 16:17 ET by ahusserthat in 40 years after that historic event we haven't continued space exploration in any meaningful way.
"Somehow, I told you so, just doesn't quite say it." Will Smith in 'I, Robot.'
ahussar, agreed!
July 19, 2009 - 16:25 ET by BlondeIt is a shameful fact, that after the last Shuttle flies next year, we won't have a meaningful way to get into space....except to beg a ride to the Space Station from the Russians or the Chinese.
Disgraceful.
I hope he fails, too.
I was 12 years old when Apollo 11 landed on the moon
July 20, 2009 - 20:36 ET by ctyankeePresidents Kennedy and Johnson get all of the credit for Apollo from CBS News. They certainly deserve credit for starting the space program but there was no mention that Nixon was president at the time. It was President Nixon, who made the first historic phone call to the Moon.
On NBC News tonight, historian Doris Kearns Goodwin says that she was at the LBJ ranch at the time of the moon landing. Johnson (LBJ) was the *former* president at the time.
cy... I also noticed that
July 20, 2009 - 20:48 ET by bigtimercy...
I also noticed that today.
The msm go out of their way to not mention Nixon unless it is bad...simple as that.
I heard that phone call he made early this morning on Fox I think it was, since I didn't have it elsewhere until I muted the danged thing.
Btw...when it comes to Goodwin, she is a plagiarizer plus, but the leftist love, love, love her.
