Although having the lowest rated broadcast evening news program, Katie Couric was just named a "Giant of Broadcasting."
Such was announced by the Library of American Broadcasting (h/t TVNewser):

July 4, 2009 - 11:00 ET by Joe CamelI quit watching the "Evening News" on all channels about five years ago. I got so tired of the gibberish they called journalism, I turned the channel. The only thing, in all seriousness is the local weather, sports when on (college football and basketball, not pro). Other than that, we only watch cable tv, all news is Fox, as we don't watch any other channel. When we read about Mathews et. al..here, I just figure what is one to expect when they watch the MSM today. Same with the local paper (KC Star) when they call. They are almost giving it away for free, and when they hear my reason for not taking it after 35 years, well...they admit that they hear the same reason all the time. One would think they would get the message, but, alas, sometimes they would rather die than admit mistakes. RIP media.

Cronkite was fairly subtle, but his bias during Viet Nam and in later interviews with Nixon just could not be hidden. The first time I really sat up and pointed at the tv and said 'that interviewer is biased was during a Peter Jennings interview with the head of the RNC. You could tell Peter just hated the guy. I say this because Couric was the first newscaster I can remember who was always obvious with her bias. She never even attempted to hide disdain for all things conservative and all people who were Republicans. She also never attempted to mask her adoration for all things liberal and Democrat. She also seemed to have an inherent dislike for men in general. I guess this makes her a giant in the eyes of those who think like her.

The audience was none too pleased with the subject matter and the rumblings were low toned and constant. Someone came out before the show to "explain" why it was an "important" show to make (issue of the times).
Given the format and the despicable subject matter, the show was produced as carefully as it could have been, but we, the audience, were not pleased at all that a comedy show was addressing this issue.

Yes, Bea Arthur and Ed McMahon are dead. That's the reason their awards were listed as posthumous. Does the fact that they died mean no one should appreciate their work anymore? Geez, McMahon died just 2 days before Michael Jackson and people are still going on and on [and on and on and on] about him. McMahon was a decorated Marine fighter pilot in both WWII and Korea, which is a lot more important to me than a singer and dancer, no matter how good he was at it.
