This is about as disgusting as Palin Derangement Syndrome can get.
A blog just published at the Huffington Post is disgracefully titled "Palin Will Run In '12 On More Retardation Platform."
The author, fiction and comedy writer Erik Sean Nelson (pictured right), actually wrote the following (readers are seriously warned to proceed with caution as this is really vile stuff):
In Sarah Palin's resignation announcement she complained about the treatment of her son Trig who always teaches her life lessons. She said that the "world needs more Trigs, not fewer." That's a presidential campaign promise we can all get behind. She will be the first politician to actually try to increase the population of retarded people. To me, it's kinda like saying the world needs more cancer patients because they teach us such personal lessons.
Her first act as President: To introduce a Pre-K lunch buffet that includes lead paint chips. Sort of a Large HEAD-START Program.
She will then encourage women to hold off on pregnancies until their 40's just to mix up some chromosomes.
She now is in favor of abortion only in case of diploid birth.
Her policies will increase jobs because Wal-Mart is building new stores each day and someone has to be the greeter.
This will lead to smaller government because fewer Americans will have the cognitive ability to hold a government job
Wow. Is this what passes for comedy today?
It will be interesting to see how long this post stays up before someone at HuffPo pulls it.
Stay tuned.
*****Update: The article has been pulled, apparantly by the author who claimed: "I got some emails from offended loved ones of the retarded. No one was seeing the absurdity of Palin hiding behind her children, so my piece was not accomplishing anything good."
Imagine that.
Well, for posterity purposes, here's a screen-cap of the piece courtesy NB reader Brett Scheer:

Nice job, Erik. Don't be a stranger.

What a pig...
July 3, 2009 - 19:08 ET by PrairieSkyIt doesn't get much lower than this...What this piece of s$%t Nelson obviously doesn't understand is what Sarah was alluding to when she mentioned her son Trig in the comment. As someone who has worked with Downs syndrome children, I can tell you that they see the world in very black and white ways, and have no agendas and no ulterior motives...what you see, is what you get. Sarah no doubt was referring to that when she said the world should have more Trigs. This man is a despicable pig to not understand that and to make fun of her comments.

So as not to act moronic like a liberal fool, I will add someting intellectual to an otherwise uneducated article. July 3, 2009 - 19:11 ET by MidAmericaThese people should be worried about a private citizen Sarah Palin out there pointing out the obvious, obama has failed. His domestic agenda is a mess and his lack of world leadership is creating crisis all over the world. The demands of being a governor under constant and frivolous political attack is time and money draining. Now she can concentrate on asking the country to take off their rose colored glasses and take a cold hard look at the mess this country is in. It doesn't matter if Sarah can actually become the Republican nominee. She brings in the crowds and creates excitement. That's something the Republican establishment cannot do.

July 3, 2009 - 19:25 ET by Chris NormanI have no idea why Sarah Palin is resigning. All I know is that she seems to be a decent person who made the apparent unforgiveable mistake of accepting McCain's invitation to be his running mate. That's only when the media and the punk liberals decided that they hated her to the marrow and took it on themselves to do everything in their power to harrass, humiliate, and destroy her - and her family. They took everything they imagine they hate about conservatives and dumped it on her. Then they have the sheer nerve to talk about the Republicans "mean-spiritness". There is a cold civil war going on in this country and the liberals declared it.

Sarah
July 4, 2009 - 09:11 ET by doug1950explained why she was stepping down. She had become a huge distraction and a moving target for every snot nosed puke with a vendetta. She could no longer do the superb job she had been doing for her State and being an honorable woman, she understood better than anyone, she could do more for her beliefs, conservative causes by removing the conduit for their ire. It had become one unfounded accusation after another. She also said her and her staff had become bogged down just answering the accusations. Her response is almost exactly what happens in the military when someone becomes ineffective in their position. The honorable and the expected thing to do is resign, immediately, to keep the wheels moving. It is called "command effectiveness". Mission is more important than any person holding any position. She as much as said that too. For all the ignorant jackasses who have called her names, she is one very sharp lady for seeing and understanding this. I predict she will be just fine. All the talking heads on tv think she has commited political suicide. When have they EVER been right about anything? Most are pompous jerks who have never run for any office and know only what they have been told over decades of incestuous inbreeding in the journalists circles. We have entered a new day politcally and things will not continue the same way they have in the past. Up is down and down is UP, right is now wrong and wrong is now right. This is what Nelson actually believes about Sarah Palin? How could he look himself in the mirror after that imbecilic conclusion? I guarantee you that if someone like Ann Coulter had used the word 'retarded' in a piece about a liberal Democrat, the entire media, en masse would be going into phony outrage mode.

Attacks on the family
July 3, 2009 - 20:03 ET by jaywlI have listened to the pundits on Fox discussing Palin and her reasons, purpose, etc. Most were saying it was a calculated move for a future campaign that is doomed to failure. Only one, from the Washington Times (may he excuse the omission of his richly deserved plug with a name) came close to accepting the fact that Palin has put her family first. It is just such crap from left looney liberals calling themselves Democrats that leads to this. Eric Nelson's constituency includes the same people that supported Obama by spending the maximum with every organization they could. The smart ones will say it was inappropriate, while defending the a-holes right to be a jerk. The Times writer mentioned comments about Trig as being recent, who could blame a mother to react in this way? Palin supporter Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, despite her name, was most down to earth. The former Hillary supporter deplored all attacks on the family of any politician and added this question: What does this do for the future of any woman who has young children? It is now open season on any of them. If and when a Democrat is attacked as Palin was, these liberals will be the first to say cease fire, have you no decency? The problem, as I see it, is that most decent human beings wouldn't attack a Democrat's children if given the chance. That makes it a one sided war.
The link is gone. Someone
July 3, 2009 - 20:10 ET by Radical1979The link is gone. Someone must have realized how vile it was and it only helps justify Palin's decision. What a bunch of hypocrites;;..
July 4, 2009 - 07:59 ET by taocpaMore hypocrisy from the left as usual.
We see it from them all the time, but it shows even more today. Obama got a free pass with the "Special Olympics joke", now this commentary. But that's not the half of it.
Paul Begala writes in his commentary over at what I like to refer to as I'm Having a Huff-Post the following about Sarah Palin, "Let's stipulate that if there is some heretofore unknown personal,
medical or family crisis, this was the right move. But Gov. Palin
didn't say anything like that. Her statement was incoherent, bizarre
and juvenile."
He also quotes, "Gov. Palin's official announcement that she is resigning as chief
executive of the great state of Alaska had all the depth and gravitas
of a 13-year-old's review of the Jonas Brothers' album on Facebook."
Now, I recall during the campaign, they mocked her for being the governor of Alaska ("come on, we talking about Alaska. How hard is it to run? All their money comes from oil profits!", etc.). They also mocked her speaking style, like Begala does in these two quotes. Yet our current president (cough) uses pop culture vernacular such as "shout-outs" and "my brothers" and he his "hip" and "cool". He also bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia. I'm sorry, but that's not presidential and Begala should be more worried about that than Gov. Palin.
I don't think I can take seriously a publication that prominently features Daryl Hannah and Alec Baldwin as two of its contributors.
When will the madness end? Hopefully, January 20, 2013.

He thinks he's a "comedy" writer. Now that's about the only funny thing about him.
Leftist mean-spiritedness.
July 4, 2009 - 09:46 ET by Blogger Guy00001Leftists are mean and intolerant. They have adopted as their vocation the destruction of decent normal people.
This is because they are rotten inside and full of self-hate and self-loathing.
To be fair..
July 4, 2009 - 09:48 ET by Sergeant ROCK.. leftists are very tolerant of like-minded individuals.

ElRusbo once compared POTUS' remarks about bowling as if he were retarded to Palin's address to the downs syndrome convention. (both happened in the same week, only POTUS' poor coments were reported and defended by the state run media as a "poor choice of words")
No doubt that Palin was much more mature and elegant than POTUS.

I'm going to post the full apology
July 5, 2009 - 10:14 ET by nwahsI really see no purpose in editing short apolgies, so here is the full apology:
"I wrote a piece making fun of
the fact that a Trig Palin joke was given as the reason that Sarah
Palin left office. I wrote jokes that were offensive but my intent was
for them to be ironic and therefore not offensive. I was wrong. Within
ten minutes of my post I received some emails from the loved ones of
the retarded and I saw that my piece was hurtful. Therefore, I removed
the post right after receiving the first 2 emails.
I removed it immediately because I saw that it did not come across
as I intended. I apologize to all of those who were offended."
Integrity beats BS no matter what political ideaology.

July 5, 2009 - 10:23 ET by Cool ArrowThe guy gets his licks in, catches some flak for it, then makes a lame excuse for removing it.
And you call it integrity?
New low.
No, well not all of that
July 5, 2009 - 10:42 ET by nwahsThe story using mental retardation as a vehicle is gross. It has nothing to do with integrity. The apology if heartfelt, does, and if just a case of the writer covering his butt, doesn't.
I was thinking about changing my tagline to that but decided not to. The Moody Blues are a good band, but they are pretty pretentious (thats why I prefer Pink Floyd). Well that tag line is damn pretentious.

Me too
July 5, 2009 - 15:36 ET by Cool ArrowMoody Blues or Pink Floyd will do.
So I opened my door to my enemies, and asked could we wipe the slate clean. But all they had was a bunch of retard jokes.
Yeah, Pink Floyd works real good.

But then "Tuesday, afternoon (wonderful music ) I'm just beginning to see.."
Its a toss up for me, but the Moody Blues are more pretentious :)

No I'm posting the entire apology
July 5, 2009 - 10:35 ET by nwahsWhere do you see a defense of what he wrote? I don't see a point in editing the apology. Its quite brief.
The "integrity beats BS" stuff is a tag line I'm thinking about, because I do believe that. But it is pretty pretentious, so maybe not. That doesn't in anyway apply to the bloggers gross "irony."

July 5, 2009 - 20:46 ET by Noel SheppardShawn,
But what was the point? My update included a link to his apology. Why did you feel it necessary to post it? Do you think I was pulling a fast one? ns
"intent versus perception"
July 5, 2009 - 11:26 ET by lotrSo, just when did this new "intent" disclaimer of pop-left commedians come into vogue? Was Letterman the brainchild or someone before him? This is certainly borrowing a play from Dave's playbook. Is it because the object of scorn in both "jokes" was the same (i.e., Palin children)?
"Let's wrap him up, alright?" -- Keith Olbermann
Pretty stupid
July 5, 2009 - 13:49 ET by doug1950I think anyone with an ounce of common decency would have recognized a "joke" of any kind that uses retardation or any other physical or mental impediment is crass and tasteless, especially someone whose job is writing for a living. The fact that he pulled it shows there may be a modicum of conscience lurking somewhere beneath a micro thin layer of integrity. I hope for his own sake, in the future, he thinks about what he writes and if necessary censors his own prejudices enough to be taken seriously as a writer.
The entire piece was a waste and totally unnecessary. I just wonder what he "intended" for it to portray. Little like Letterman's "apology"; a backhanded apology at best. He too left the impression, it was the publics fault for being too obtuse to "get" his joke, not his for doing it.
