In today's "Does His Ego Know No Bounds?" segment, Keith Olbermann warned Daily Kos readers on Friday that they should not post diaries or comments critical of him for it strengthens the Right.
As NewsBusters Mitchell Blatt reported Friday, a diary was posted at Daily Kos on July 18 that bashed the "Countdown" host for just attacking Republicans and not doing any real news.
Olbermann clearly was displeased, and posted a response that was two parts Narcissus and one part Norman Bates (h/t Hot Air):
I preface this by saying, got a complaint about me, go ahead. Diarize, comment, whatever (actually those first two are your only choices - there is no 'whatever'). There's a chance I'll ignore it, there's a chance I'll agree with it, but usually I'll respond to it and try to explain or at least address it. I'd say "Bring It On," but that doesn't necessarily have the same meaning it used to.
However, be forewarned: you may be part of a plan to make it look like I'm under siege by the Left.
Step 1: Trollish person writes over-the-top critical diary (in this case, on the Mark Sanford email reading).
Step 2: Lots of defense of your undersigned diarist (thank ye).
Step 3: RW website writes piece quoting this here site: "By Wednesday, even critics on the left said Olbermann had gone too far." [...]Again, no request for amnesty, agreement, criticism-free zones, or universal love is implied here. Just watch out: there's nothing better for the lunatic fringe when a Mark Sanford hits an iceberg, than to throw up some phony Liberal-on-Liberal-Violence sabotage chaff in front of the torpedos headed towards a Republican-In-Crisis.
He really is a psychiatrist's dream, isn't he?
After all, when you get passed the limitless vanity feebly attempting to mask the paranoid schizophrenia, Olbermann actually confirmed the original Kossack's complaint: all he does is Republican-bashing...even when he's defending being accused of such.

Psycho-babble
June 28, 2009 - 00:31 ET by metaphorsbwithuI resent the comparison of Keith Olbermann to Norman Bates.
Not to the boyish and brilliant Anthony Perkins' characterization of him anyway, as created by Alfred Hitchcock, although the original paunchy creepy character of the Robert Bloch novel might be a closer fit.
The movie version Norman was quite likeable, shy and (aside from a couple of "quirks") quite sensitive and vulnerable.
And, unlike Bates, Olbermann is a character even a mother would have trouble loving.

June 28, 2009 - 13:22 ET by Noel Sheppardmeta,
As "Psycho" is one of my favorite movies of all time, and Norman one of my favorite characters, I certainly wasn't trying to besmirch it or him with my reference.
That said, irrespective of how likeable he was, Norman was INDEED a paranoid schizophrenic who killed numerous people including his mother and her lover.
As such, I'm not sure comparing Olbermann to him is at all defamatory to Norman. It was not my intention. :-) ns
Psycho II
June 28, 2009 - 17:05 ET by metaphorsbwithuOh, I agree totally Noel and, although I was being accurate in my description of Norman, my comments were also partly tongue-and-cheek.
However, Hitchcock's immersion in themes of guilt and remorse, lost on most of today's "anything goes" audiences, from their (original) shame at "peeping" at Leigh's undressing scenes to her own too-late remorse at extortion, underlines the loathsome character of people like Olbermann.
Much more so than poor Norman who was simply behaving as he was driven. Older audiences, I think, were more conflicted because they identified with Norman and, occasionally, acted just as he did.
In that regard, Keith, who knows what he's doing and why, who has no remorse the behavior he condemns but is indulging in, is much more loathsome than Norman could ever be - IMHO.

June 28, 2009 - 18:44 ET by Noel Sheppardmeta,
Well, Keith is far more dangerous than Norman was. After all, Norman only killed a few people, and then ended up spending the rest of his life in jail (absurd sequels notwithstanding!).
By contrast, Keith is part of a movement that is dreadfully brainwashing a growing number of people that will make bad life and voting decisions as a result. As such, his influence is far worse on society than Norman's. :-) ns

June 28, 2009 - 06:37 ET by Jack BauerSome experts say that rumor has it that Olbermann is mourning home alone in his New York apartment...
Dressed commando-style in his favorite original quasi-fascist Michael Jackson outfit circa 1993 (winning bid on eBay for $21,666)...
With the Thriller video endless looped on his DVD player...
Drinking endless bottles of Chartreuse...
Whilst his young female PA sucks his toes in between dances...
Okay -- it's a rumor I started, but I like to think it has validity!
Not really a psychs dream
June 28, 2009 - 08:51 ET by harqmanQuote from the last link below:
"Perhaps the most immediately evident trait of patients with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is their vulnerability to criticism and disagreement. Subject to negative input, real or imagined, even to a mild rebuke, a constructive suggestion, or an offer to help, they feel injured, humiliated and empty and they react with disdain (devaluation), rage, and defiance."
He is not really a psychiatrist's dream because he has personality disorders. And you can't really fix that. Psychs like most Drs like to fix things and make them better. Personality disorders do not have a magic pill to fix. So if you were going to help KO, as if it were possible and he would ever ask for it, you would have to listen to his droning on and on and on. There is not enough money........strike that, of course there is. But there would be now way to guarantee results. Here http://samvak.tripod.com/personalitydisorders44.html is an interesting link that explains the problem in potentially treating a guy like KO. A couple other links that may explain the actual disorder. I report, you decide. Scroll down on each link to see the whole thing.
