In today's "Why Didn't Al Gore Think of That?" moment, a Russian climatologist is claiming global warming might have played a significant role in bringing down Air France flight 447 on Monday.
With this revelation, the list of things climate change is supposed to be responsible for has officially surpassed the list of things it's NOT been blamed for.
As hysterically reported by Russia Today Thursday (h/t Marc Morano):
Although the exact cause of the tragedy may never be fully known, most investigators already agree on one thing: severe weather conditions played an important part. And that conclusion is leading some climatologists to wonder if the airlines are properly prepared for a world of higher temperatures, and therefore more stressful flight conditions in the future.
“A consequence of global warming is that the frequency and severity of such events (severe weather conditions) is higher,” Alexei Kokorin, head of Russia’s World Wildlife Fund’s Climate Program, told RT. “Unfortunately, the risk for airplanes, especially in tropical areas above water, will be higher. This could be difficult for pilots to understand.”
Kokorin said that global weather conditions are becoming more severe, and the cause goes back to one source: the acceleration of the greenhouse effect due to the activities of man on earth.
“We are seeing the same with other (meteorological) events… We see more powerful typhoons than before. We see more powerful cyclones from the North Atlantic, which causes very heavy rainfall and floods in Europe. These are different events of the same reason: warmer surface of the ocean due to global warming, which is a result of the greenhouse effect, unfortunately man made,” he said.
Makes you want to cancel your summer vacation, doesn't it?
Exit question: how soon will it be before global warming obsessed media, along with Nobel Laureate Al Gore begin using this disaster as another reason to enact the cap-and-trade legislation currently before Congress?
Gentlemen: start your watches.

Will these people stop at nothing? This is rich, especially coming from Russia, where their industrial complex has been spewing toxins and who knows what for a century. Like they have any intention of limiting their "greenhouse gasses". They'd just like to see us surrender our industry and transportation.

June 4, 2009 - 16:41 ET by SeftonI kid you not - I joked to my brother just the other day that they'll probably blame global warming on this French plane crash.
Problem is, I was only joking. I didn't think someone would actually attempt this. Wow.

June 4, 2009 - 17:44 ET by Junk Science SkepticWe were told that gore-bull warming was going to increase hurricanes because of warmer water in the Gulf of Mexico.
What wasn't reported was that the climate fantasists own models, and a bit of pesky real-world observation indicated that warmer temperatures increase wind-shear which prevents the hurricanes from forming in the first place.
Now we're told that warmer air at high altitudes (may have) caused more severe weather that (may have) contributed to the loss of flight 447.
What isn't being reported is that while surface temperatures influenced by shoddy measurement practices have arguably shown warming in SOME areas, the more accurate satellite measurement of air temperatures at upper altitudes has shown cooling since the satellites have been in place.

Fewer Crashes
June 4, 2009 - 17:44 ET by slickwillie2001Two can play this game; if we look at airline fatalities year by year since we began large scale air travel, or merely number of crashes, or fatalities/airmiles traveled, or whatever, I believe the numbers have been going down dramatically. At one time in the 80's when I began flying, there seemed to be several serious crashes a year in the lower 48. Therefore I submit that 'global warming' reduces the number of crashes. Or perhaps I might suggest that it's not warming at all, and that's why the numbers are going down.
Let's all make up our own unproveable thesis.

June 4, 2009 - 17:58 ET by sevenJoseph Romm is the loudest fear mongeror after algore. They are in a panic that oceans are warming by the hour and becoming more acidic and all huuricanes and Dakota floods or forrest fires are current warming examples. I hadn't hear airplane crashes will go down iif we quickly tax CO2.
The damage and destruction in the ocean is a catastrophy as we speak. The acidity is killing life. Ocean ph is 8.1 or alkaline and it begins to become acidic after it fallls below 7.00
They are in a panic and calling for drastic and extreme measures.
Global Warming my A$$
June 4, 2009 - 18:19 ET by irishguyI still can't believe people fall for that GW crap. Here in Ohio, I had the furnace on last night (june 3rd!) since it got down to the low 40's. If it isn't George Bush's fault, it must be global warming!

June 4, 2009 - 18:25 ET by Gary Hall"we see dead people.. (the sixth sense)" .. from global warming.
I almost hate to admit it - was thinking it was paranoia - I was expecting someone to blame it on Global warming.
This stuff: "..We see more powerful typhoons than before. We see more powerful cyclones from the North Atlantic.."
Can't these folks learn to read? I think that for the moment, the science here is rather settled, as numerous experts have debunked that completely. There is no evidence of either. In fact, I believe that even the last major report from the IPCC made it clear, and I paraphrase, that while some scientists believe that warming seas could lead to more cyclones and more powerful cyclonic activity, there is nothing in the record which indicates this has occurred to date.
Funny stuff out there NS.

June 4, 2009 - 18:43 ET by David N MOSomething is wrong here. The media wasn't in a hurry to say anything about it...
No early talk about who was on the plane...
No sense of urgency about finding it...
Very early reports that it would be near impossible to find the black boxes...
Even now when they've decided it came apart at altitude they blame global warming instead of considering terrorism.
Something stinks...

Gullible warming is a religion
June 4, 2009 - 18:54 ET by sevenIt is not science and it is worshipped in political circles. It is a lobbying force to be reconned with. Global warming priests take forcasts and treat them as facts. Global warming asserts 2 things. Cloud cover on the planet is a constant and the earth doesn't lose heat by radiating heat.
The mystic powers of global warming mimick the witch doctors, voodoo and other practitioners of occculting gifts. They "know" what will happen and can describe it in detail before it happens.
There is no reason for them to not claim sever strorms brought on us by the polluters and deniers did this. They must be taxed till they surrendor.

June 4, 2009 - 20:13 ET by Horizon3My assumption would be that the planes Pilots and Collision / Weather avoidance radar, could not differentiate the various precipitation patterns in the super-cell thunderstorms he was flying into, due to very heavy precipitation around and in front of him.
And as a result he flew into the central column of the super-cell and into a cloud of softball size hail stones, if the media is correct quoting the storm tops at 50k ft then it is entirely possible that the hail stones in the storm could be softball or large size at 35k ft, and he flew into a veritable hail of ice cannon balls at 500+ mph, ripping the plane to shreds in seconds.
My Prayers to all victims and crew and their families on the flight

June 4, 2009 - 20:47 ET by CobraMan"This could be difficult for pilots to understand."
Huh? Is this man saying that all those hundreds of hours of simulation training was ineffective? That the thunderstorm scenarios that every pilot (including French pilots) is ineffective? That pilots wouldn't understand what a storm is as how it affects aerodynamics or what risks are involved in flying through a thunderstorm cloud? Yea, right! I'd like to see this man TRY one of those simulations! I guarantee you that he wouldn't be making such an asinine statement after going through just a small part of that training!
