'SNL' Producer: Sarah Palin 'Most Confident Person I've Ever Met'

Stop the presses!

A member of the mainstream media actually said something nice about Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

I kid you not: "Saturday Night Live" senior producer Marci Klein said during an interview last week, "This is the most confident person I've ever met."

Certainly not the impression created by CBS's Katie Couric or ABC's Charlie Gibson, wouldn't you agree?

Appearing on Julie Menin's "Give and Take," Klein had absolutely nothing but nice things to say about the press's current public enemy #1 (video embedded below the fold with partial transcript, relevant section at 2:25):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

JULIE MENIN, "Give and Take": Let's talk about Sarah Palin, because she was really the gift that kept on giving. So, what was she like when you first met her on the show?

MARCIE KLEIN, SENIOR PRODUCER "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE":  Well, the first, I actually was the first person to meet her. She, one of the NBC pages, or someone in my office brought her up to the eighth floor, and I was standing there, and I, I, I thought, "Oh my God, she looks just like Tina." I mean, I couldn't believe how much she looked liked Tina. And, Tina was happened to be in my office, and I ran into my office, I shook her hand, and she had incredibly strong, you know, handshake, but I was overwhelmed by how much she physically looked like Tina, and how -- Tina Fey -- and how a lot of people come to our show, actors, musicians, and they're nervous. I mean, you know, "Saturday Night Live, I watched this my whole life." She was not nervous. I thought, "This is the most confident person I've ever met." I walked into my office and said to Tina, "You're gonna freak out, she looks exactly like you, or you like exactly like her." She said, "She's prettier than I am."

MENIN: Do you think that maybe she wasn't nervous because she hadn't watched the show before? Did she say if she'd watched the show before?

KLEIN: I'm sure she watched the show before, I don't know, but I think she's just a person with a lot of confidence. And I think when you see people with confidence, you like that. You know, you trust, you know, you, there's something, there's something to confidence that, that people respond to.

MENIN: So she was very likable?

KLEIN: Well, she was certainly lovely to deal with on our show.

Refreshing, wouldn't you agree?

Readers are encouraged to continue watching the video to its conclusion as Menin and Klein actually discussed the possibility that Vice President Biden and his gaffes will become a staple on "SNL" much like Chevy Chase's regular lampooning of former President Gerald Ford three decades ago.

Also, this is part III of a five-part interview. Those interested in the other four parts should go here

My God, that was amazing. I

My God, that was amazing. I actually felt for a minute there like I lived in America again. Thanks, Noel.

It was a nice change

It was a nice change especially it being an interview with a comitted Leftist like Julie Menin. I don't live in New York, but saw her being interviewed by Mike Huckabee on Fox News once. No idea she had a show or web show, whatever it is, but did know she was a local NYC council woman after reading a bio on some website.

Palin isn't evil just a nice woman.  As for Menin can't say I want to hear her much for she is just like ever other liberal these days.  Her partner in crime at Fox News Kirsten Powers has been bashing Carrie Prejean so no surprise there.

It was nice to hear Marci give Palin kind words.

Yeah

It's not just that she (Klein) said nice things about Sarah Palin. It was simply refreshing to hear someone speak candidly and with their own brain for once. I'm neither a Republican nor a huge Sarah Palin fan (although I don't dislike her), so this isn't a partisan reaction. I was just amazed to see Klein gazing at the ceiling, searching for her own opinions, rather than reciting by rote the leftist party line.

I sincerely hope Marci has

I sincerely hope Marci has her taxes in order and a line on another job.

Michaels will sh&t brix when he see's this.

Aparrently Ms. Klein did

Aparrently Ms. Klein did not get the memo that Sarah Palin is eeevillll...bwahahahah.

Ms Klein kinda looks like Jennifer Aniston if you add about 20 years

Marci Klein

Have you ever noticed how just about everyone who actually meets Gov. Palin is impressed by her.  Even Michels, and Baldwin had nice things to say about her after she was on the show.  I've read accounts of her rallies where afterwards she would work the crowds, shaking hands, and actually talking to people, and everyone was captivated by her.

Low Expectations I suppose

I'm sure she is very charming

WT*! Noel, this should have come with a depends alert!

I was stunned to read something like this : )

It's all in the timing

Oh crap. And N.B. had to go and boot the resident Palin basher.

Thanks, Noel. I for one needed the encouragement. Will definitely take time to watch later.

Not sentimental

Just the mention of it was enough to raise Noel's eyebrow.

I must say it is pretty amazing that a child of SNL would admit to being impressed with Gov. Palin, though.

And she still has a job?

I had just a vision of him like a penniless little kid standing outside on a freezing cold day peering into the steamed-up cookie shop storefront window.

Re Confidence

Politics aside, you have to respect the ability of Palin to come out of nowhere and give a speech to tens of millions of people, and knock it out of the park. Public speaking is one of the most terrifying of experiences for a large part of the human population. I've seen dozens of folks in business that had everything they needed to be a CEO with that one exception.

But I would never suggest electing our leaders simply on the basis of public speaking skills and confidence or prettiness. Who knows what we could end up with if we did that!

PS: Much more pretty than Tina Fey. No real question there.

sw...it was nice to hear

sw...it was nice to hear that Fey said those words herself.

Between the lines

JULIE MENIN: Let's talk about Sarah Palin, because she was really the gift that kept on giving. [Julie thinks, this is your cue, Klein, your talking point -- take it and run, and I'll follow up with some scathing observations about Palin myself]

MENIN: Do you think that maybe she wasn't nervous because she hadn't watched the show before? [Whoa, Klein, your getting off message here. Let's get back on track, will you? I can't believe you said something positive. Here's your chance to hit the softball. Now don't miss]

MENIN: So she was very likable? [Un-f**ing believable. Klein, you idiot, have you been drugged? Palin is a total scumbag, and it's my responsiblity to warn the world about her. And you're blowing it, girl. This whole interview is going badly. Very, very badly I'm afraid].

Great post, TnT!

I would bet money that is how it went down in her mind too!

I got the same impression

I got the same impression about Menin

whoops....

I do believe that Marci just shot her career in the foot.   This will never be forgiven.  How dare she say anything that could be construed as nice about Sarah Palin.

I remember reading an

I remember reading an interview with Tina Fey where she said that she really enjoyed meeting Palin, and was disappointed when it was reported somewhere that she was "cold" towards Palin. She also said something about being impressed with how buff the VP nominee was.

As for Biden, I would like to see someone else do him on the show, 'cause it just doesn't work with Sudeikis.

To US, it's just a big "DUH!"

It is amazing to see the reaction of the leftists to real conservatives. It's as if it is inconcievable that a conservative could be "confident."They were probably expecting a version of a female Darth Vadar or Emperor.

Keep in mind that Tina Fey herself detested Sarah Palin and actually wanted to leave the planet had the republicans won. (This was not an understatement; look HERE: http://nymag.com/dai...)

An earlier poster is indeed correct. Marci Klein probably just guaranteed herself persona non grata status at future events, as well as a potential permanent rift with the unfortunately still-Earthbound Fey.

Not really sure of what was funny about (Obama).. Or be a lot to to make funny of...there is Little material there.

Apparently they can't see anything because there head being so far up there posteriors.

As apposed to Sarah who has one interview and they think that they know everything about her and everything on how to lampoon her with

Just think if Fey did not look like Palin even the election results could have been different. I would say most swing votes views of Palin came from Fey's and SNL characterization.

Dumb move to go on SNL! and just stand there like an idiot

She just validated their obscenity filled show.

Three bags full !

Three bags full !

There is of course a strategy of pre-emption afoot...

-with the MSM and online media such as HuffPo all going after Palin in a substained effort, as mysterious "leaks" from nobody/false rumors, persist.

If Sarah Palin is so silly and irrelevant, why the obsession

Clearly the Left noted her appeal, and are out to eliminate the threat-  It's not like it's not obvious-

And liberals' double-standard sexism is appalling; she's "dumb" because she's a happy and attractive Christian, who enjoys being a mother? Real feminists need to be angry, wear combat boots, no make-up, short hair, and live alone in a studio apartment in the East Village?  She's not the right kind of example because she doesn't support affirmative action... but instead went out there and just kicked butt?

Sarah Palin has been highly successful in life while ignoring the left-wing feminist model... this helps to explain the extra dose of venom in the attacks.

Democrats are plenty afraid of Palin coming-back at them in 2012 with a dynamic and complementary VP like Bobby Jindal... or visa versa.  And they have plenty of reason to fear her-

Palin is the most popular governor in the country; her 60+% approval rating exceeds that of the MSM-pimped Obama... are all those people up there idiots?  Alaska was a pretty corrupt system until she stepped in. Her reforms took on entrenched politicians (inc. Republicans), a mafioso-style union boss, and Big Oil.

Wouldn't it have been nice if Obama had been principled and brave enough to confront the corrupt Chicago Democratic Machine? Or shady political operators like Tony Rezko? Racist preachers? Instead of doing business with every last one of them?

Go get em, Sarah- and don't mind the press, nobody will be listening to them anymore after the pending Obamamania implosion.
