Fox Remains #2 Cabler With Top 11 News Programs

As the Fox News Channel continues to be berated by America's new president along with his Party and liberal media minions, the cable network keeps drawing in more and more viewers.

In fact, it has been the second most-watched ad-supported cable network for nine straight weeks, and now sports the top eleven cable news programs.

Adding insult to injury, TVNewser reported Tuesday that FNC is now attracting more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

How's this for cable news domination - Fox News beat CNN and MSNBC combined in every hour from 6amET to MidnightET in both Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo for April 2009. [...]

From 9amET on, every program grew by more than 60% in the demo. The 5pmET hour, now occupied by Glenn Beck, is up 212% in the demo and up 128% in Total Viewers. Your World with Neil Cavuto is up 102% in the demo and up 60% in Total Viewers. On the Record with Greta Van Susteren is up 75% in demo and up 55% in Total Viewers. Also in demo: FOX Report is up 75%, Special Report 70%, The O'Reilly Factor 74% and Hannity 64%.

Fox & Friends has now been #1 for 90 consecutive months, Studio B with Shepard Smith for 80 consecutive months.

Awfully impressive, wouldn't you say? But it gets better, for MediaWeek reported Monday that FNC is gunning to replace USA as the number one cable network:

Naturally, Fox News says that second place isn’t good enough. Even after taking the silver among ad-supported cable in the first quarter of 2009, averaging 2.26 million total viewers to USA Network’s record delivery of 3.26 million, the channel won’t rest until it has reached the summit. In short, FNC wants to win the prime-time ratings crown outright, and as the upfront season approaches, its ad sales team is trumpeting that message to media buyers.

As the Huffington Post reported Tuesday, FNC narrowed the gap further in April averaging 2.350 million total viewers in primetime compared to USA's 3.044, a difference of only 694,000.

Can you imagine what liberals will think if FNC actually becomes the #1 ad-supported cable network?

Speaking of which, Headline News's Nancy Grace actually beat MSNBC's Keith Olbermann this month in the all important 25 to 54-year-old demo.

Nice job, Keith.

So the repeat of The O'Reilly Factor beats Countdown with Keith?

Classic.

Poor Olbie

Knowing that O'Reilly's repeat beats him has that gasbag loon banging his big head against the proverbial wall.  Lol!!!

Reassuring statistics.

I'm glad to hear that millions of people prefer to listen to liberals WHEN conservatives are also allowed to present their side of the story.

Oh, the humanity!

Just proves Obama's threat assessment is right in that evil, capitalist, racist, hatemonger, white Americans need to be rounded up and put in re-education camps.

How can America be this

How can America be this conservative and yet our elected officials be so liberal. Where is the disconnect?

Good question.

It seems that the viewers of FOX News would have some kind of impact.

look it antidote

There are some 300 million people in America. Some 50 million voted for McCain. We're talking about BOR being #1 because 3 million people watch him. If you add up all the numbers of all these shows, it still means 95% of Americans are doing something else.

Most people generally don't watch much news. When something like Katrina or 9/11 happens, news networks see a big spike in people tuning in and then as interest fades they wander off.

So we can take two possibilities from Fox's ratings. Either more conservies are becoming engaged, or more independents who watch the news are drifting to Fox for their source.

But it does prove that lefties don't make good news watchers.

...

Unfortunately, most Americans still get their news from the networks:  ABC, CBS, and NBC.  Thus we have that B.O.zo in the White House.

A lot of people admit

A lot of people admit getting their news from jon stewart.  Which is incredibly sad

JON LEIBOWITZ...

Anybody, & I mean ANYBODY, who gets their news from a comic, let alone admitting it, is an @$$. I like comics making fun of the day's news & it's newsmakers as much as the next person. From Johnny Carson, to George Carlin, to Dennis Miller, I liked hearing their take on things. I would never listen to them & say I got my news for the day. Jon Stewert, Leibowitz, or whatever he calls himself, can be funny, but takes himself too seriously. This happened to Bill Mahar, & he's not funny anymore either. Leibowitz is on his way down the same path.

here are the latest network ratings..

Look at the 25-54 segment.  This tells me that primarily just old liberals watch the network news.
Evening News Ratings: Week of April 20

"NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" was the most-watched network evening newscast again last week, winning in Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo. This is the 28th consecutive weekly win in Total Viewers and the 22nd straight week in A25-54 viewers.

Total Viewers: NBC: 8,100,000 / ABC: 7,430,000 / CBS: 5,750,000

25-54 demo: NBC: 2,440,000 / ABC: 2,120,000 / CBS: 1,720,000

Most people don't get any news at all

They get their "information" from the popular culture.

In answer to your question, pc... I think most conservatives

are capitalists and normally shy away from government positions - the sleazy deals that seem to be a part of life in DC are right up the alley for liberals.

Just my thoughts...which is also the basis for my suggestion for TERM LIMITS! I believe we would attract many more ordinary citizens who would be willing to part with a term or two to help our country get moving in the right direction.

As it is now, we have too many liberals who are so self-important that they can't step aside to let others serve.  For one, Specter's statement (all about ME and MY 29-year career - the dickens with my CONSTITUENTS!) followed by many others, the 'do you know who I am' crowd, who should retire instead of making politics their end-all, be-all lifeworks.

Just my thoughts ;-)

Countdown is only #12 due to Fox watchers tuning in to this freak to see what he might say.  Kind of like slowing down to see the carnage of a wreck on the freeway.

That's all FOX News is. How difficult does it have to be?

Re: Fox News

It never ceases to amaze me what a visceral reaction those on the Left and the Far Right have to "Faux" (how clever) News.

The Left has such a monopoly on not only broadcast news, but also cable and taxpayer funded news (PBS/NPR), that you would think that Fox would be nothing more than an annoyance, yet they act as if it is a threat to the Republic (not that the Left is interesting in maintaining the Republic).

Does the Left get hysterical because they really can't believe the American people would watch and (gasp) even agree on some of the veiwpoints put across by Fox, or is it all an act based purely on maintaining as much power as possible, or is it both?

As as far as the Far Right goes, they rip Fox every chance they get while totally ignoring the nonsense and lies put out by people like ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR, PBS, CNN and MSNBC.

Interesting.

The success of the democrat

The success of the democrat party relies solely on having an ignorant populace. Fox is one of the few places where people can hear the truth, that is a threat to them and their agenda.

PESTER JOHN...

I came to the conclusion that FoxNews was'nt so much a right wing news outlet, but that since Fox showed up a decade ago & started to get ratings, the rest of the MSM has gone from center left to hard left. Fox is center right, & there is room to the right of Fox in the market, but to the left, there are too many people offering the same thing.

Not a great buisiness model, as we are seing with ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, CNNHeadline, MSNBC, NYTimes, WashPost, LATimes, AirAmerica, NovaM, Second Thought Radio, PBS, NPR, & the synergy between those at these failing MSM outlets & the Dem controled gov't. Just waiting for the gov't bailout of these failures. GE/NBC/MSNBC have their bailout, who's next?

Transparency

I think the reason FNC enjoys such high ratings, and steadily increasing viewership, has to do several factors; bloggers frequently reference FNC, and of course sites like NB probably help alot. But getting people to turn on the channel and keeping it on are two different things. This proves that the FNC audience is growing and not a temporary uptick due to "environmental" issues like an election. I find FNC to be the most transparent of all the televised media. Take Beck for example- he tells you who he is, what he believes, and allows you to make up your mind about what you see and hear. And rarely do the folks on FNC blatently trash anyone purely on their viewpoint. They refrain from the childish tactics of Matthews and Olbie, don't insult your intelligence with the likes of some of the CNN blowhards, and don't talk down to viewers like the pompous networks news anchors. I know this is arguable, but I think FNC does the best job of separating news programs from news and comment programs and opinion programs. They also rarely present only one side of a political argument. People identify with the personalities and are constantly reminded that "they report, add their comments, but allow you to decide" as opposed to the "we're right, you just believe what we tell you to believe" MSM.

<smug grins all around>

Ah......... the sweet, sweet smell of vindication!

What's especially impressive is how quickly Glenn Beck has shot up in the ratings, and the 5-6 p.m. time slot is not the most ideal for attracting viewers.

I was flipping channels last night and landed on Olbermann for comic relief.  He spent an inordinate amount of time showing clips of Fox reporters/commentators and claiming that the evil cable network is showing its hatred for Mexicans by linking that country to the swine flu.  The depths to which these people will sink!

I find it continually amusing how much time he and his ilk 'waste' trying to tear down Fox, when Fox will make barely a mention of MSNBC.  It's not working, people!!

Liberals have no clue how business works, they do not understand profits, they care only about their agenda. They are willing to lose money and go out of business just to push an agenda.

Thing is that FOX news

Thing is that FOX news isn't even really *that* conservative.  It is just that the other networks are so far to the left.  On FOX I consistently see *both* sides of the debate even on the shows that feature conservative hosts (Hannity, Beck etc).  It seems the only place to really hear both sides consistently. Not so on the other networks.  I think that is what annoys people and brings them to FOX.  It actually really seems fair and balanced as they claim.

Hannity and Beck?

How about Poodle Smith and Minor Garrett?  You're right, there are a lot of "moderates" and outright libs on FOX.

Re balance on Fox News

The other night on Fox News hard-news 6pm program, 'the panel' was made up of three liberals, Mara, Juan, and Birnbaum, AFAIR. When have you ever seen an all-conservative panel on one of the liberal networks?

Mr. Davison,

I agree. All conservatives ask for is a fair and equal representation of our beliefs and views in the media and for neutral coverage of events and issues. Despite some flaws, Fox News come closest in delivering that.

I just don't get it

The thing I just don't understand about MSNBC's "hosts" is that they do nothing but trash people. That's it. They don't contribute anything POSITIVE to public discourse. Can you imagine what it would be like to wake up every morning and get out of bed (or the bathtub) knowing all you're going to do is trash people? I honestly believe that's why MSNBC's ratings are so microscopic. Even hardline leftists must get tired of their act at some point. It's just sick.

BTW - sorry about the mental picture of Maddow or Olbermann getting out of bed. Yikes!

Let's Get Real

Let's not proclaim victory just yet folks. In a cable ratings sense, this is good news, but look at it purely from a political view. If you compare Fox's Special Report hard news at 6pm with ABC or CBS or NBC's network news, the old nets still blow away cable. In terms of liberal news vs Fox news, there's still no comparison. Fox News should be aiming for those ratings, not USA Cable.

If you look at 'The View' vs whatever Fox News has on in that time slot, there's also no comparison. If you look at #1 Rush Limbaugh's listen/view numbers and compare them to NPR's #2 and #3 talk radio programs, those #2 and 3 programs together are far more than Limbaugh, about 24 million vs 14 million.

Selected comparisons make us feel good, but liberals still far-and-away dominate the news and talk radio business. We have a lot of work to do.

Exactly.

Thus my post above.

are these numbers comparing cable vs network misleading?

I'm wondering how much of this disparity is because of the mere fact that not everyone has cable or satellite TV -- given the fairly hefty monthy service fee, these are, after all, still luxuries (or at least they ought to be).  I would like to see the numbers normalized by total viewership.  Would anybody happen to have those handy?

"Let's wrap him up, alright?" -- Keith Olbermann

Cable has a much smaller

Cable has a much smaller audience because its pay to play, broadcast is free and everybody with a TV gets it. If Fox wants to compete with them, they need to start airing their cable shows during primetime broadcast hours.

But they arent going to do that.

Beck

I can't for the life of me understand why is in the 5 PM slot rather than competing directly against the national network nightly newscasts.  He would eventually blow them all away.

  -Reject ALL incumbents in 2010-

It would be interesting to

It would be interesting to see how a 30 minute Fox News program would do if aired on the local Fox channel against the other networks.

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." Mark Twain

The numbers don't lie----

FOX, being the only network catering to the conservative crowd, has cornered that market. Seems to me all the other networks are sharing and splitting the avaliable leftist viewers and their numbers may be dwindling. It probably won't happen, but if the liberal-to-a-fault networks switched over to conservative pundits and tried to present an alternative to their leftist news, they might improve their #'s.

Alas, I'm hoping they continue on though, with their head firmly inserted where the sun don't shine, ubiquitously flinging poo in all directions allowing me to simplify my life, by narrowing my news viewing selection to FOX News...

perfectly stated

I agree completely

Bill O'Reilly is one of the most intelligent, brilliant, and

educated commentators on television, and he rightfully deserves to be number one in cable. Bill O'Reilly is knowledgeable on just about any subject, but he is without a doubt unsurpassed as an expert when it comes to discussing the economy.

So I was shocked and deeply disappointed when Bill gave his Talking Points last night (Tuesday, April 28), and proceeded to give President Barack Obama a grade of B on domestic policy. Bill had this to say about President Obama's domestic policy:

"Faced with a declining economy, the president has stopped the bleeding, at least on the surface. The panic talk has died down, and the stock market has stabilized."

Unbelievable!

Did Bill O'Reilly forget that the stock market has been soaring, the
jobless rate has dramatically declined, and the economy is now booming
since Barack Obama assumed the Presidency?

Obviously, Bill O'Reilly made a huge mistake in his grade. Anyone who understands this economy, and the actions President Obama has taken to stimulate the economy would clearly give President Barack Obama a grade of A, although you could make the case that he deserves an A+.

----------------

Okay, enough already. Sarcasm OFF! Bill O'Reilly should go back to teaching school (hopefully no higher than first grade). How this guy made it to No. 1 in cable amazes me. Then again, if Barack Hussein Obama, an inexperienced socialist community organizer can reach the presidency, sadly anything is possible.

----------------------------------

No wonder the country is in a mess;
half the people are below median
intelligence.

I forgot to add that although my stomach can't take too much of

Bill O'Reilly, and will throw up at the sight of Shepard Smith and Geraldo Rivera, FoxNews is still my only source for mostly fair and balanced network news. My stomach can't handle the other drive-by "news" networks.

Thank you Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes.

“Nobody believes what the mainstream media says now anyway.  Except the uneducated, the illiterate, and the uninformed -- which, sadly, is a fairly large number” ~ Rush Limbaugh

yep

My impression of BOR is that he tries to achieve some degree of neutrality and that he reasonably tries to give the President the benefit of the doubt.  He thinks somewhat like I do.  That is one of the reasons I enjoy his show more than Hannity's.

That said, however, I couldn't agree with you more.  In my opinion, Obama's biggest error (outside of radical abortion-mongering) is his massive unsustainable debt legacy for the U.S. economy.  In my opinion, he gets an F- on "domestic policy."  Ironically, I honestly think his foreign policy isn't nearly as disastrous.  While it might help things in the short term, I truly fear the country will not able to recover in the long run.

What ratings will Fox Network get tonight

Re ratings, it will be interesting to see what ratings the Fox Network gets tonight during the Bamster's speech. If it becomes obvious that Fox has eaten the other networks lunch because of the Bamster, it might start a stampede away from the next primetime Dear Leader address.

My holster is a fashion statement.

I (blush) to ask question--

What is the USA network?  This must be obvious to everyone else, but I honestly don't know what the USA network is...

8 More Shows

The problem with a Top 20 is that there are only 8 more spaces for Fox to fill and there are only 24 hrs. in a and they don't count 6 of them in the survey.

Where's Red Eye on the list? I say let's get FoxNews to move that to 11 pm EST. Of course it it too "racy" for Prime Time  on the West Coast so they have to schedule it weird to meet the "standards" that are applied to "conservative" news shows, but not to liberal ones.

If FoxNews has 8 more shows that can be rated then that's if for the other cable news channels.
