How often have you wondered whether or not the liberals who are so outraged by conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh have ever actually listened to his program?
Shockingly, an op-ed in Sunday's Los Angeles Times asked such a question.
In fact, author Andrew Klavan took it a step further:
If you are reading this newspaper, the likelihood is that you agree with the Obama administration's recent attacks on conservative radio talker Rush Limbaugh. That's the likelihood; here's the certainty: You've never listened to Rush Limbaugh.
That was just the beginning (h/t Gary Hall):
Whenever I interrupt a liberal's anti-Limbaugh rant to point out that the ranter has never actually listened to the man, he always says the same thing: "I've heard him!"
On further questioning, it always turns out that by "heard him," he means he's heard the selected excerpts spoon-fed him by the distortion-mongers of the mainstream media. These excerpts are specifically designed to accomplish one thing: to make sure you never actually listen to Limbaugh's show, never actually give him a fair chance to speak his piece to you directly.
By lifting some typically Rushian piece of outrageous hilarity completely out of context, the distortion gang knows full well it can get you to widen your eyes and open your mouth in the universal sign of Liberal Outrage. Your scrawny chest swelling with a warm sense of completely unearned righteousness, you will turn to your second spouse and say, "I'm not a liberal, I'm a moderate, and I'm tolerant of a wide range of differing views -- but this goes too far!"
I promise this isn't one of my Sunday Funnies.
Don't believe me? Read the whole thing here...it really is an LA Times link.
Pinky swear!
Of course, now that the left has shills like ThinkProgress and Media Matters, every liberal in the country can have an opinion about the most popular talk show host in the nation without ever turning on the radio.
But that's the point of good propaganda, isn't it?

March 30, 2009 - 14:44 ET by candanceHow convenient that everything you said here is a verbatim echo of the talking points at Media Matters. Talk all you want about Rush fans being ditto heads, but you sir are just as guilty for letting the media tell you what to think about Rush.
Where was all his bluster when old georgie was ruining the party.
Where was it? It was all over the place. Rush criticized Bush daily over the Sept bailout. Rush was one of the biggest voices against Bush's amnesty plan. He complained about Bush's spending and judicial appointments like Harriet Miers. But of course lefty blogs don't replay that stuff.
if he has to go manoemano he is not as quick.
Another lie believed by someone who never hears the show. Rush talks to callers all the time who disagree with him. He never backs down from their points. More than once I have heard him reply to a lefty caller, being polite and logical, and they would hang up on him. Oh, and if you want to talk about someone losing a tete-a-tete then you should ask Harry Reid what happens when someone picks a fight with Rush.
Hence why you don,t see him on any of the debate shows or tv.
Um do you not remember when he worked for ESPN? They fired him for speaking an unpopular opinion. He didn't quit. He was forced off the air. Besides, what should he do, go on Keith Olbermann's show to debate him - the same Keith who refuses to let any conservies on his show and blatantly ordered his staff to cut the mic on a Republican? Maybe he should do Matt Lauer a favor and double the ratings on Today just so Lauer can complain about his offending tone. Or maybe he should talk to Chris Matthews on air, so they can get Michelle Obama to call into the station and tell him to shut up. Rush wants to debate people fairly, not step into a booby trap orchestrated to embarrass him.
Next time, why don't you just save yourself some time and copypaste your comments directly from HuffPo.

Clearly Liberals are sensing their own weakness
March 29, 2009 - 23:48 ET by RpeggioMuch like an animal becomes dangerous and more likely to attack when it's wounded...the liberals are clearly in a defensive mode as they try to take the focus off of Obama's failures and attack Rush, O'Reilly etc. It's pretty funny actually. All they're doing is boosting the ratings of Rush/O'Reilly and Fox in general. Obama is becoming the best marketing tool for the Republicans...and I'm an independent that thinks the Republicans don't deserve any favors...they've made many of their own mistakes these past 8 years. But it is the classic attack when you're wounded scenario. If the left were riding high and comfy, they wouldn't bother with Rush and O'Reilly etc., but Obama's failures and crazy spending plan has them in a very tough spot. What great theater!

It just got old. Granted that was over 14 years ago. I listen off and on now and it doesn't seem so bad anymore. Jer is a Democrat who has voted for Democrats the majority of the time, but has on occasion voted for Republicans at every level except the presidency.
However, Jer regrets not having voted for Reagan instead of Carter, having reassessed his presidency after he was out of office and decided that he was indeed the right man at the right time for this country, and for those and other reasons concluded Reagan was the best President in my lifetime. But that doesn't mean I changed parties or my center/left inclinations and stopped voting for Democrats [although it probably caused a shift of a few degrees rightward.]

March 30, 2009 - 10:11 ET by maggieqpublicThe beauty of liberalism is you are automatically right just by being liberal.
Well said. And that is an attitude characteristic of so many of our ‘educated’ fellow citizens…. the ones who graduated with their liberal arts degrees without exposure to a single conservative professor.
amen!

Exactly!
March 30, 2009 - 07:39 ET by NortonalecThe Palm Beach Post is doing the same thing. They have asked for guest writers (that don't agree with the editors) the columinsts have gone a little to the Right, and you can now get the entire week for the price of Sunday's paper. It is kind of funny to watch them scramble and beg for people to buy the paper.

It's always great to hear liberals admit the truth
March 30, 2009 - 09:45 ET by The Smokin FrogWow. It's always great to hear liberals admit the truth when nothing can be done about it. I guess we are to think them objective at these moments. They really do think we are idiots. With all of the complaining about Rush I know one thing about him: Rush didn't destroy my savings...Obama did. Unfortunately, I can't shut Obama off. The past news conference he was on every freaking station. He's like a fungus. It just keeps mutating, there's no cure.
So liberals do not need to watch Rush. They will listen to Obama's spokesmen, the media, tell them how evil Rush is and that is sufficient because the fungus ate their brains.
Secret -Don't Read This if You Are a Liberal
March 30, 2009 - 09:49 ET by slickwillie2001Rush likes to bloviate to some extent, like 'talent on loan from God', because he knows that is what sends liberals into a head-banging on the wall, red-faced fit of rage, and he enjoys that reaction. He knows that there are many liberals simply beyond reach and all he (and we) can do is nudge them into blind hatred, which exposes the ugliness of Western liberalism and helps defeat them.
Those that listen to him once in a while don't understand that and don't get past it to hear the message.
I'm a Rush 24/7 member
March 30, 2009 - 10:45 ET by kevinm13I love listening to Rush. I agree with him more than most other conservative observers and listen to him on my iPod on my ride to/from work in Manhattan. I usually imagine that the person beside me on the train is liberal and would strongly object to much of what Rush says, although I fully agree with Rush that even liberals would agree with much of what he says after listening to him for 3 weeks.
Give him 3 weeks and you will be hooked because he is truthful and right all the time.

March 30, 2009 - 15:40 ET by Rush FanI'm a big fan of Rush also. I was happy to hear that Rush's audience has significantly increased after democrat operatives along with their friends in the media recently attempted to attack Rush.
By the way, Rush wants his new listeners to listen to him for at least six weeks before they decide to turn him off.

Take that you Libs!!! :-)
Hi Mrs. Rukus
March 30, 2009 - 21:28 ET by Rush FanLet me be one of the first to welcome you to NewsBusters. It's always nice to meet someone who appreciates Rush, and the conservative principles that Rush and many of us value. I believe you will find that many posters here at NewsBusters are also fans of Rush Limbaugh. I was fortunate to create this tag line before it was taken by another fan of Rush.
Best wishes.

A man from China-----
March 30, 2009 - 11:26 ET by Roscoe MendagoHere in Rush's adopted home town, prior to the Maja-Rushie, there was Morton Downey Jr. and at the time a spot-on talker, he was saying what I was thinking. He made a mistake though, he called a "man" of Chinese heritage a "China----Man", a PC error so gross and unspeakable that it cost him his job, he was gone, just like that.
Who am I going to listen to now? Well along came this guy with a funny 1st name, "Rush" Limbaugh, but my loyalty wasn't too long in coming, maybe a week, and besides, he was outstanding. I've been listening ever since 1984, 3hrs. a day, 5 days a week. Oh, must pay closer attention, the show just started, the radio is now on...
Speaking for myself, I too have sensed the claim that someone who claims to have listened to Rush and hates him is a propaganda conduit for a teacher's union, or here in government workers paradise, Sacramento, a state worker, and there's plenty of'em. What a colossal waste of money. Remember, here in Ca. our taxes are going up and not a spending cut in sight, just more union workers...

I think the biggest thorn in
March 31, 2009 - 05:32 ET by stancoyleI think the biggest thorn in the backside of liberals would be if Rush had a prime time hour on Fox News....maybe opposite CNN's and MSNBC's best rating shot. The amount of viewers would even put Bill O on the ropes!!!!!!!!
It's Okay
March 31, 2009 - 13:40 ET by DoktorFrankenThey don't listen to Rush (that's news???) and I don't listen to the ''liberal's anti-Limbaugh rant''.
