Update/Correction: It seems Chris Matthews, not Keith Olbermann muttered "Oh, God!" as Gov. Jindal walked out to deliver the Republican Response to the President's address to Congress. My apologies for the confusion. The text below is corrected according.
In another journalistic new low, MSNBC's Chris Matthews apparently mumbled the words "Oh God" after he introduced Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, the Republican who gave the GOP response following President Barack Obama's address to Congress Tuesday.
With a picture of the Governor's mansion on screen, Olbermann stated the following (video embedded below the fold):
Chris, stand by, Rachel, stand by, we're getting that cue from Baton Rouge where Gov. Jindal of Louisiana is set to deliver the Republican response to President Obama. It is entitled "Americans Can Do Anything." Here's Gov. Jindal.
As Jindal walked towards the camera, a hushed voice, apparently Matthews', said, "Oh God" as others were heard laughing in the background.
Now THAT'S good journalism!
*****Update: As Drudge has now picked up this story, there's destined to be debate as to who said "Oh God"? Michael Calderone over at Politico agrees with me. However, the folks at Real Clear Politics are a tad more undecided.
A reader just e-mailed me saying he thinks it's Matthews, but the more I listen to it, the more it sounds like Olbermann.
What do you think?
*****Update II: TVNewser claims "sources" told them it was Matthews. Such sources might be right, or might be protecting Olbermann. I guess we won't know until someone fesses up and apologizes. Good luck!

bear in mind
February 24, 2009 - 23:41 ET by LoosMooseYou must bear in mind that Olberman is nothing more than a stooge for the network. A paid professional irritant. He is not there for any form of communication, or dissemination of newsworthy events or information. He has nothing of value to say, and only offers his own personal comments which he works into a mash of the most hateful and personal attacks he can manage. Actually, when you consider how easy that is to do, you begin to appreciate how little talent the man has. Once you recognize him for what he is, you can truly begin to understand how weak and worthless he truly is, and what a disappointment.
Imagine setting out to become a professional journalist, and being forced to settle for a position where you have no credibility, and your only purpose for being on the air is to antagonize anyone that doesn't agree with your network's policy. Olberman is to journalism what the faucet is to the water works, he just spews, and the network has control of the handle.
I had a nightmare that Keith Olberman was run over by a bus,....... and lived.

Exactly. I use to enjoy watching MSNBC after speeches like this because they had exactly that: dissenting opinions. Chris Matthews was often one of them and he used to be OK.
To me MSNBC has become completely unwatchable with the exception of Morning Joe (which can get tedious at times). .
For the record it sounded like Olbe to me.

Of course some cable outlets do not want ANYTHING to do with it.

Put them out of business
February 25, 2009 - 00:35 ET by SlyrrWith almost the entire media in Obama's pocket, and with all their 'reporters' eating the rainbows he spews out of his rectum, it may seem hopeless, but it's not.
When idiots like this say 'oh god', sneering and spitting at every Republican they see, you may feel the battle has been lost since the enemy controls the propoganda machine.
But it's not hopeless. We have the power to bring ALL of them to their knees.
Do you remember when Newsweek printed that cover which slammed and insluted Sarah Palin? They crossed the line and outrage ensued. In less than a week, furious readers were cancelling subscriptions by the hundreds.
Newsweek went into a screaming panic, issuing grovelling, snivelling apologies, offering free issues to thier subscribers, begging and pleading with them not to cancel out on them.
In short, we had them utterly at our mercy. By cancelling and walking away from these media idiots, we can do the same thing again - and again - and again. Are you sick of these lying scumbags, are you tired of watching them HELP the enemy drive the country to communism? Do you feel like there's nothing you can do to stop them?
You're wrong. Everyone - walk away from these people en masse. Turn them off for good. If you subscribe to any of them - cancel. It's time to put these liars in the doghouse where they belong. And I guarantee - once they lose enough viewers, they'll be begging you to come back.
But don't believe them. Let them wither on the vine, drop dead, and then depart to the dung heap of media history.
Make them say 'oh GOD' for a totally different reason.
Make them watch their money totally disappear, and make them watch them lose thier jobs and have to crawl to the unemployment line, weeping and wailing and gnashing their teeth.

Matthews "Oh God"... No Doubt!
February 25, 2009 - 01:55 ET by D StaskelThat was clearly Chris Matthews mumbling "Oh God" on the hot mic. Come on! Of course it is the infamous "tingle up my leg" guy whose emotions are worn clearly on his sleeve. He saw Jindal approaching, looking less than physically impressive, especially compared to Obama's presence, and uttered the "Oh God" in response to what he saw as the Republican response to Obama. Guarantee it was Matthews. As much of an ass that Olby is, he is not prone to purely emotional reactions like Matthews, who also cannot control the saliva which occassionally pours over his always moist lower lip. CLEARLY it was Matthews.

February 25, 2009 - 02:04 ET by D StaskelGo to the link off the Drudge Report and the audio is much better quality. It is clearly Matthews. Now, will he admit it... actually, will he ever even be confronted with it? If he is, would he then admit it? And would he then apologize? What if Pat Buchanan uttered "Oh God" when they showed Michelle Obama? Think it would be an uproar then?!!?!? I'm beginning to believe there is a double standard here... (ya think?!?!?!?!?!?!). Pathetic. They can get away with anything, becasue no one challenges them. Why won't Fox start veering a little more right and start confronting the other news outlets more aggressively?!
