Maddow Bashes Fox News Then Admits Never Seeing One FNC Program

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow bashed competitor Fox News at a Television Critics Association gathering Thursday before she told a small group of reporters she's "never seen a show on Fox at any time ever.”

I kid you not.

Must be quite a talent to have strong opinions about something you've never actually experienced firsthand, dontcha think?

Such was reported by The Hollywood Reporter's James Hibberd Thursday (h/t TVNewser):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

When a critic compares MSNBC with Fox News, Maddow bristles.

“The idea that there’s any equivalency between us and Fox News...” she says. “Fox is a political experiment. Imagine them having somebody as liberal as Joe Scarborough is conservative doing their whole morning? It doesn't make sense."

"We're less about ideology than Fox News," adds the news network’s president Phil Griffin.

Yet after the panel, Maddow told a huddle of reporters she doesn’t own a TV and has “never seen a show on Fox at any time ever.”

Isn't that great? So, she's got an opinion about a network she's never watched!

Isn't that classic liberalism as well as fundamental to the leftist indoctrination and propagandization she and the mainstream media are involved in?

After all, to really manipulate public opinion, you have to be able to instill impressions on the masses without them having any real knowledge of the subject matter.

If you can make people hate something they actually haven't experienced be it a person, a movie, a book, or a television network, you can totally create a groupthink that is tremendously powerful.

For example, what percentage of liberals in and out of the media:

  • Hate Rush Limbaugh even though they've never heard his program or read one of his books?
  • Hate Sean Hannity even though they've never heard/watched his program or read one of his books?
  • Hate Bill O'Reilly even though they've never heard/watched his program or read one of his books?
  • Hate Ann Coulter even though they've never read one of her books or heard her speak?
  • Hate Fox News even though they've never watched an FNC program?

Conceivably, the answer to some of the above could be as high as 50 percent, right? Maybe higher?

Pretty scary!

Of course, besides the liberal press, at the heart of this brainwashing are groups like MoveOn.org, Media Matters for America, and ThinkProgress who disseminate their own biased and uneducated opinions to the masses as well as media outlets to aid in the creation of the groupthink.

Consider how many folks are part of the "haters" listed above as a result of "information" they've received directly or indirectly from MO, MMA, or TP. In the end, that is the reason these organizations exist: to create a belief system in the part of the population that isn't interested in doing any real research or investigation of their own.

A perfect example of such is the vast majority of the left that believes there's a consensus among scientists that man is warming the planet even though they can't name one scientist in said ranks.

Scarier still is that MSNBC employs someone who admits being part of that last hateful group for it goes tremendously counter to anything associated with journalism, although that's not really a surprise given who she works for.

On a related note, what percentage of Americans voted for Barack Obama last November without having read one of his books or having any knowledge about his votes in the Illinois and U.S. Senate?

Probably greater than 50 percent, correct?

Get the picture?

All these people need to

All these people need to know is that the mentioned commentators are conservatives (even the wishy-washy BOR, because he's on Fox). That means they are all  bigots, racists, sexists,  homophobes (Limbaugh's impersonation of their screed).

This from the side that supposedly deplores stereotypes.

NBers

NBers,

Did we need a finer example of how groupthink works? After all, this brainwashed troll doesn't understand the difference between having firsthand knowledge of events transpiring thousands of miles away from your residence and what's happening on a national television network in your own country. How truly sad for him and our nation.  ns

Not only that, but

Not only that, but conservatives can't have an opinion on a war or torture or anything elses unless they have first-hand experience, but Rachel Maddow can opine on something admits that she's never seen.

Sums it up neatly, mb

Well done.

It's more like...

I think your statement sums it up best. I for one, don't make assumptions of liberals or Democrats based on this loser's performance here.

Isn't that why we have news services like MSNBC, so that we can observe, understand, and form opinions about events that are happening around the world even though we can't "be there" to experience those events first-hand?

Since that IS the function of a news service like MSNBC, wouldn't it be appropriate that a member of that news service actually WITNESS something before commenting on it?

In this case, shouldn't Maddow be required to actually OBSERVE Fox News BEFORE she opines about the inappropriateness of a competitor's format? Or is that too much to expect from a news service?

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

Bling can't meet own standard

When you experience all of that stuff, come back and criticize.  If you can't meet your own standard, keep quiet.

Welcome to the era of unity, you racist!

Slight problem with that logic...

So then,

1. Only people that have served in Iraq can discuss or make policy about it (guess Obama can't be CIC.)

2. Only survivors of abortions can discuss or make policy about it (gonna be a short list.)

3. Only those that lived a life of crime can discuss or make policy about that either (Cripps and Bloods running the Justice Department, gonna be interesting.)

4. Rapists and rape victims sitting down to revise our sex crimes laws (bet that one goes well.)

5. Only those who were presidents can comment about presidents (gonna be a quiet Kieth Olbermann show for some time...)

6. Only terrorists can serve as terrorism experts (oh that'll be a fun meeting...)

7. Only murder victims can testify at the murderers trial ("dead men tell no tales", it ain't just for pirates anymore.)

8. Those who have never served in congress need not apply (guess Burris is SOL after all...)

9. Only those who have paid taxes can collect them (have fun with that one people in need.)

10. Only those who have had cancer in the past can get it in the future (funny how nature doesn't work that way.)

We have a representative government, for better or worse, it's what we all agree on. We elect people to do what we hope is the right thing, not always based on their experiences.

Liberals only watch and

Liberals only watch and read liberals that agree with them. Outside of their little world they rely on heresy of what other liberals 'think' is outside their little worldview.

"Forget change, I want improvement!"

Sorry--flatout don't buy it

How can anyone be involved in communications and never watch a channel, esp a competitor? That's just impossible to believe. Sorry, Rachel. And it also makes you look lame and unprofessional to say it.

Maddog

Oh, I've had a picture about her for a long time. I heard her on Air America when she was first starting out. Gadzooks! Her show was pitiful! Rambling, incoherent Janeane Garafalo/Roseanne rants and conspiracy theories abounded. The main difference between the left and right is simple. We know what's in their heads{not much}, and we know how they think. They have no clue how we think, don't understand how we live, make wild assumptions, etc. It might have been on here at NB, someone said that when conservatives were asked to explain their opinions, then turn the tables, and explain how they thought liberals thought, they aced it. When the study was done on the libs, and they had to explain their thoughts, they had some problmes expressing them, but when it came time to explain how conservatives think, they failed miserably. This is the disconnect, folks, and it isn't on our side of the fence. I seriously despise this little weird woman/teenage boy. I hate the condesceding attitude, and the twisting of facts to fit her agenda. I don't watch this tripe, wouldn't watch it if was the only show on television. I love the way she says she doesn't have a tv. As if that would be too bourgeois! We common & ignorant gun totin', bible thumpin', trash sit on our couches and watch Fox on our ostentatious big screen tvs. She is protesting a wee bit too much, methinks, I put forth she is just jealous! She would love to be on a show that had the best viewer ratings.

Liberals believe it when

Liberals believe it when they believe it. Conservatives believe it when they see it.

Rachel What!

It's amazing for someone to have an opinion about someone or something, and then mention that she has never watched a FNC program. It would only enlighten Miss Madcow if she would watch a FNC program. Maybe then, she would actually learn something, because there isn't a more clueless person in the media than Miss Madcow.  What's worse is that there are people whom watch this windbag.

So what's different?

Actually, isn't that the basics of propaganda.  Propaganda would be useless if people actually read how both sides think about a situation. Fox News sort of snuck up on the left.  I don't believe they understood, when Fox started, what an alternative view would do to them.  Now they understand and they're afraid, very afraid.

Our new President set a trend, by choosing to avoid Fox News during debates and for interviews.  How else could he avoid questions he might not be prepared for?  Will the country allow him to continue to do this, once he takes office?

I don't believe this is a conspiracy, I believe it's a concerted effort to minimize the effect that Fox can have on the liberal agenda.  There's a plan, underway, to associate Fox News with right-wing propaganda.  You can watch the criticism, as it unfolds, watch who avoids coming on the network, watch what happens when they do come on the network, and you begin to see a pattern.

Rachel Maddow can bash Fox News and none of her associates will ever ask her if she's watched Fox.  I'll bet the Newsbusters is the only place this story will appear.  If the news never makes it to prominence, it will be believed by many who just don't stay informed.

It's like the AP, which is willing to put out false stories and then, either refuse to correct them, or correct them in such a way that they're forgotten about.  It's quite common for AP stories to make the front page, in their false form, and be on page 14a, for the correction.  I pick on AP, because they're on the Global Warming bandwagon and they're using this same ploy as they have with Republicans.

Election 2008-God's way of showing us that elections count.

Pot and Kettle

Talk about a one-sided account. BOTH sides have a point of view and engage in propaganda to influence potential voters. Nothing has changed in that regard since Jefferson and Hamilton's respective parties were using newspapers to throw hateful and not-necessarily-factual accusations at each other.

What HAS changed in our own day is that the Internet makes it easier to track down lies and unsubstantiated rumors. But not even advances in technology can lay to rest the unfortunate human tendency to give credence only to information that supports a preconception.

And precisely

WHAT does that have to do with Maddow's stunning hypocrisy?

Are you going to stick around and defend your stupid talking points, or post & run as usual?

We need a better class of troll, here. ©

WHAT does that have to do

WHAT does that have to do with Maddow's stunning hypocrisy?

Not a thing, as we know.

This is  the typical liberal ploy: change the subject.

It's about as effective as Well, you're a ding-dong! -All-tel ad

Hey Aquarium

A news story is supposed to be one-sided. A news story is not a discussion of differences but a statment of facts and reality.

I used the word aquarium because you appear to have the brains of a dead fish.

Jesus Loves You

Pot, meet kettle

"A news story is supposed to be one-sided"

No, a news story is supposed to be NEUTRAL, it's not supposed to be slanted towards "one side" or the other.  To be neutral, the "story' should include differing opinions, contradictory statements, and conflicting "facts" about the subject matter.  Then, and ONLY then, can a news story be accurate while remaining neutral towards whatever subject it is reporting.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

You're right Cobra

I should have been clearer. The one side news is to present is the accurate description of an event is what I meant.

Contradictory statements are often used to steer attention away from the true meaning of the facts.

Jesus Loves You

What are the facts?

You're falling into that same trap, assuming that "facts" are being reported when all that is being reported are EVENTS or OPINIONS of events.

It is NOT the function of the news services to report a "fact".  It IS the function of a news service to report all available information about a particular subject so that I may discern what is a "fact."

How do we decide what is a "fact" and what is simply an assumption of "fact" unless we are exposed to those contradictory statements and conflicting observations, observations which are usually portrayed as "facts?"

I WANT those contradictory statements. I NEED those conflicting "facts."  I DEMAND them so I may form my own opinion of what is a "fact" and what information is relevant.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

That is the real problem

We aren't being given just the pertinent facts about events. We are being given planred lies disguised as conflicting "facts". The old media goes out of its way to generate conflicting "facts" to portray the account as they see fit..

If conflicting facts are part of an event they should be reported as part of the story.

I agree with you but i"m tired of reporters adding false and mislesding information to deliberately steer a story in a particular direction.

Jesus Loves You

A Perfect example

There is a perfect example of why we need a news service to report ALL available information about a given subject, and that example is the CBS TANG memo debacle.

In this case, we had a supposedly reliable news service called 60 Minutes, described as "investigative journalism," reporting only those "facts" and statements that would tend to support their OPINION of a subject, the existence and reliability of certain memos relating to President Bush's Nation Guard service.

On national  television, we had Dan Rather presenting us with what HE described as "authentic" TANG memos. He gave all kinds of statements and offered all kinds of "facts" that tried to "prove" the memo's were authentic.  He displayed those memo's as a "fact." Bush received preferential treatment, said Dan, and here's the PROOF, here's the FACTS!  Well, we all know what happened after Dan presents his "facts" about Bush's Nation Guard service, don't we?

Instead of performing his function as an unbiased source of information, Dan perform like a spokesman.  He only gave us information the supported his assertions while withholding any information that would cast doubt about the accuracies of his assertions.

He did a great job on giving us the information that supported his assertion, I have to give him credit for that.  What he FAILED to do is give us ALL the information available about those memo's, like who provided them; how they were acquired; if, or how, they were verified; and if there was ANY dissenting views or opinions as to the reliability of those memo's. He FAILED to report all of the "facts," did he not? In doing so, he tried to establish  those memo's as a  "fact" for us, instead of allowing us establish whether those memo's were truly a "fact" of if they were merely an assumption if "fact," and a false assumption at that.

If we only relied upon Rather and 60 Minutes for the "facts" he presented about those memo's, we'd have a false "fact" taken as a truth, correct?

Now, suppose that he actually presents ALL of the information available about those memo's.  Suppose he told us how those memo's were acquired, who supplied them, how he and his team tried to verify them, what the family of the person who supposedly dictated those memo's thought about them, any ancillary information about them (like the "fact" that the man who provided them kept changing his story as to how he acquired them), and any other information available about those memo's.

What would have happened?  Well, a large debate would have occurred about those documents, a healthy, and necessary, debate that would have given us all more than one view about that subject, and Dan wouldn't have been portrayed as a FOOL for allowing poorly vetted documents be presented as  FACT, when, in "fact," those documents have little more in common with a "fact" than a Mother Goose story.  Dan would have, most likely, kept his job, and the integrity of ALL news services would have NOT have been harmed like they were.

Had Dan actually performed his function as a news source the way he SHOULD have, he, and everyone else, would have been better off.

Dan's actions that fateful day highlights the NECESSITY of presenting ALL available information about a given subject, INCLUDING any contradictory statements and conflicting observations.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

He's justifying her hypocrisy.

He's justifying her hypocrisy:  "But not even advances in technology can lay to rest the unfortunate human tendency to give credence only to information that supports a preconception"

You see, it's unfortunate that Rachel Maddow is such a hypocrite, but it's also unavoidable as even modern technology (like TV, I guess) can not "lay to rest" that obvious hypocrisy.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

Ah, I see

Thanks CobraMan.

How typical, these liberals cover for their bretheren's (yeah, I know, but it fits in Maddow's case, LOL) hypocrisy even when it's staggeringly stupid!

That's why they're "nuanced"

You're welcome.

Now you know why they call themselves "nuanced." They're trying to hid their lack of objectivity and intelligence.

Most conservatives were liberals in their younger days. Then we grew up. It's funny when I debate with liberals that they can't fathom that we were just like them once and can see right through their BS because we once spouted it ourselves. Most conservatives came to that ideology by choice -- liberals came by theirs because it is the default setting when you're young and stupid.

I often tell them that I turned conservative, like so many others , when I turned 40 -- and do they think that as I gained more maturity and experience somehow I got dumber?

I find that a lot are either employed by the government, in a union, or both. It's rare to find a liberal who is self-employed  or is in a job that depends on them actual producing something useful or saleable. Maddow's a perfect liberal/leftist/Obamabot

Of course, everyone's entitled to their opinion. Or at least they are until midday Jan. 20, when Obama and his crew officially tart their balls-out assault on the First Amendment.

But, you'd think, wouldn't you, that in the case of someone who has a cable TV show that (a) she'd at least have TV and (b) she'd watch the competition occasionally to get a sense of what they're doing.

Guess not.

Thus, the classic typical liberal/leftist/Obamabot mind at work: Coming from ignorance, going to ignorance, with uninformed opinoins along the way.

Remember: Obama invited her and nine or so other "liberal" advocacy/adversary media to met with him just the other day.

So she's been "anointed" by His Megalomaniacal Empty-suited-ness as of one of THE liberal mouthpieces in the U.S. that he believes carries his message.

A liberal would never be as outspoken for family values as BillO.

Let me know how your investigation turns out.  I haven't been to a Dunkin' Donuts in years! My office keeps putting out those damned Krispy Kreams.

CobraMan

I generally agree with what you say, but are you telling me you had rather have a DD over a KK donut? What kind of sadist are you, man? All I can tell you is no true southerner will ever choose the the Dunkins over the Krispies. BTW, why did you have to bring this up, anyway, doggonit. It's like 5 a.m., right now, and I am now craving donuts. A pox on you and Jer both. LOL.

Bringing the government in to run Wall Street is like saying, "Dad burned the dinner, let's get the dog to cook." PJ O'Rourke

No, tbdi, No!

Please remove the pox from me, tbdi...I'm been a Krispy Kreme [especially the hot ones] guy for as long as I can remember.  It was my favorite stop--in Nashville--on my way to grandma's house.

Jer

Hand up

My vote goes to Krispy Kreme. *ducking* Don't shoot, Butler!
I don't know 'bout Jawja but in NC KK beats DD.

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

Birdfs of a feather

It seems that Maddow is in good company.

Witness this little gem:

And Griffin, when asked if MSNBC would ever hire a conservative commentator, seemed reluctant.

“I don’t know, I don't think they would be a pure conservative,”
he says. “There might be somebody with conservative tendencies... if
they’re smart and clever and get along with our other guys.

In other words, if they agree with the opinions of the liberals running MSNBC.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

Is Rachel Maddow a guy?

Is Rachel Maddow a guy? She looks like a he.

BTW she would only get her own show if she was ignorant like the rest of em at nbc

999, In answer to your

999,

In answer to your question: Yes.  Rachel Madcow is a dude.  Just take a a gander at that Adam's apple.

Madcow IS as ignorant as the rest of those on PMSNBC but will never get a show of his own until Queef Überdork, the only man in North America who suffers from penis envy, gives up his spot.

Liberal: a power worshipper without power. George Orwell

Yes, Trix

Maddow is following in the footsteps of Jazz musician Billy Tipton.

  • LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

That's not an Adams Apple ....

...you think you see, it's only a hair ball she has been trying to cough up for years.

Take a walk on the Wild Side!

"Fox is a political experiment..."

And Air America is/was a...what???

Anyone who thought that operation was a free market, profit seeking enterprise is truly delusional. Only the shadiest of accounting methods could ever show an honest profit.

"We're less about ideology than Fox News,"

Well I guess Phil Griffin might be one.

"Failure" comes to mind.

"And Air America is/was a...what???"

"Failure" comes to mind.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

That covers it Cobra!

I'm no accountant, but I would really enjoy reviewing their operating budget, books and tax statements. Somewhere, someone is taking some serious deductions in exchange for keeping them afloat.

Maddow is getting far

Maddow is getting far too much attention than she deserves.

Which is zilch.

Lord... I detest her.

bt,I take comfort in

bt,

I take comfort in the notion that, except for us and the liberal kamikazes who watch MSNBC, probably not many other people know who this - uh - thing - called a Rachel Madow is.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

I just hope it stays that

I just hope it stays that way Chris.

I'm getting sick of the cartoon/looney-tune characters that appear on the All in the Family network with the likes of Olbie, Matthews, Shuster and Maddow.

You can throw in their cousins Mike Barnicle Richard Wolfe and John Harwood...ect.

Bigtimer, about Rachel Maddow

As you know, I never watch the MSM but man, she is one ugly guy!

AWD.... LOL! Both you

AWD....

LOL!

Both you and Chris have Maddow pegged well with your descriptions...I'm still chucking with both of your posts after rereading them.

I'm going to check your link to see what's new in your world and post if I haven't already...I love your site...Ct's too.

Madnow

Madnow, and then, is a sheit. Sheit is pronounced as it appears. My relatives down south pronounce the word for defecation the same way, as in "Madnow is full of sheit pertneer most of the time. As for penis envy, is that possible? Unless she bought one she is like that woman who claimed to be (have become) a man by growing a beard and leaving the plumbing as God intended it. She just doesn't have the equipment for comparison that would lead to envy.

I don't listen to Rush

I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh even though I'm a Conservative Republican. I'm still hopeful that there will be a Conservative leader who was actually elected to something.  Besides, I as a private citizen am not obligated to listen to anyone.

But, Madsow does have that obligation since she works for a news-oriented TV network.  She, I would think, has the obligation to watch what she comments on...might even give her more ideas for her commentary.

Obviously, that is not her/their mindset.  All that matters is their preconceived notions.  They also know they don't have to be accurate, do any real investigating, etc. but just say anything they want without fearing any consequences.

I saw her a few times on Olbie's show (yeah, tried to see if I could actually stomach the guy again) and thought she was boring, thus the reason I don't watch her show. If she was a Liberal oddity, I might watch just to see the other side, but now it's painfully obvious that they rule the airwaves, so I could get those same views from 90% of the 'news outlets' out there.

One of the 24% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 89% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory.

RR

I'm pretty sure there's no requirement to listen to Rush, and be a conservative, (we don't have a handbook, do we?), but I am just curious, you of course don't have to answer, but why don't you listen to him? Do you not like him?

BTW,

Sorry, I forgot who just posted this, but it's properly pronounce shee-yit. You were close, though. Always remember, most words have extra syllables, and then we tend to drop the "g's" from all words ending in ing. I have a friend in Wisconsin who makes me say: pillow, window, and armadillo. The other fave is the phrase "my right eye."  That would be:

pillow-pillah

window-windah

armadillo-armadillah

My right eye becomes: Mah ryedye.

The scary think is, I never think it sounds weird, but I giggle when I listen to my "cheese head" buddy.

Bringing the government in to run Wall Street is like saying, "Dad burned the dinner, let's get the dog to cook." PJ O'Rourke

Well, I never. You decide.

A.) Never had sex with that woman Miss Lewinsky.

B.) I never allowed (Rev.) Jeremiah Wright's 20 years of teachings to permeate my thinking.

C.) Fidel and Hugo are great guys!

D.) Pigs (even with lipstick) still can't fly! They take the train.

Sounds like my co-workers

Everyone I work with says the same crap about FNC and have never seen it. Funny, that nobody ever said one thing about FNC until that idiot, Al Franken came out with his book bashing FOX News, then all of a sudden, like sheep, liberals started saying, "Yeah. FOX News is right wing and does suck. Libs can't think for themselves. Another funny thing this reminds me of: a student at my college had a sticker that said, "I think, therefore I am liberal". Maybe on Bizzarro world. She had that idea all twisted around, didn't she?

Ahhh

Everytime I see her picture I think it's a man.

Every stinkin time
