Conservative author Ann Coulter was Mike Huckabee's guest on Fox News Saturday, and the pair had a very interesting and entertaining discussion about the media's coverage of Sarah Palin as well as differences of opinion between the two of them during last year's Republican primaries.
As Coulter fans are aware, she was not a Huckabee supporter during the 2008 campaign. Far from it, she was one of his strongest critics as Hot Air's Allahpundit pointed out Sunday.
Despite this, Huckabee was quite the professional, and an exceedingly gracious host (video embedded below the fold, file photo):

January 11, 2009 - 19:13 ET by TN MomI am loving Ann's new book, Guilty!
She is absolutely right about single mothers; "Getting pregnant isn't like catching the flu....by this purposeful act, single mothers cause irreparable harm to other human beings (including their own children)....90 % of welfare recipients are single mothers"
Oh, and she SLAMS the biased MSM...on every page!!
I don't know - this is the toughest I've ever seen Huckabee be
January 11, 2009 - 19:26 ET by Dee Bunkon anyone. I watched the show with Bill Maher and Richard Dryfus and he basically let them have their soap box. I had liked him before that.
He does have the right to defend his positions here, I just wish he'd show half as much aggressiveness with liberals.
The biggest problem with most conservatives (and why we're in the spot we are) is because too many are willing to trash other conservatives more than they trash liberals. Not just politicians either. Most regular people do the same thing. Conservatives try too hard to get along and can't figure out that it doesn't work. Liberals never change and will throw any conservative over the bus in a heart beat.
hard on her?
January 11, 2009 - 21:09 ET by tim_gallantHard on her in the sense that he wants to defend himself and show that he's on her side.... I think he has a right to do that, and he wasn't mean-spirited about it (which would be very easy to do, given how mean-spirited Ann comes across, including in her past statements about him).
Anyway, I really enjoyed the exchange... gonna have to look up the rest of the interview.

conservatives trashing conservatives
January 13, 2009 - 18:59 ET by restrainednomoreI don't mind conservatives being critical of other conservatives. It shows we stand for more than just supporting some political party- unlike the liberals who will support any Dem. just because he/she is a Dem. This is regardless of experience, ability or citizenship.
However, being that we are in a crisis situation and fighting for the future of our country, we should stand together more. Ignoring unimportant differences- like what religious denomination someone is.

I agree, but I got the feeling that it was Huckabee that was upset with Ann because she dared try to call him on a few items. And if anyone is likely to bring religion into the argument, it would be Huck.

I didn't always like Coulter
January 11, 2009 - 20:16 ET by mostlymoderateI didn't always like Coulter but I LOVE her now. Don't ask why I couldn't see her brilliance before because I am not sure myself.
Good evening mod
January 11, 2009 - 20:20 ET by cocodrieAnn is like all my friends' mom when I was young. Direct, to the point and God help you if you cross her.
Can anyone imagine Keith
January 11, 2009 - 20:35 ET by motherbeltCan anyone imagine Keith Olbermann having this discussion with someone who had criticized him???????????
OK, silly question.
I give Mike Huckabee points for class. He disputed Ann without being hateful, he defended himself without attacking her.
New respect for Huckabee.
I just finished watching this segment and thought both

Indeed, Huckabee has had quite a wide range of guests since his show's inception. So far, we are still watching ;-)

January 11, 2009 - 20:46 ET by bigtimerWow...it's all about Mike.
I quit looking forward to his show quite awhile back now....he is too much in the tank with the leftist guests he has had on in the previois shows for me.

You're right, bt - he does seem to be 'in the tank'
January 11, 2009 - 20:53 ET by Cape Conservativere: his liberal guests. I haven't been 'turned off' yet, though. Even learned some interesting stuff re: Jerry Springer and I have never in my life watched his show or wanted to. Won't change my mind, but I did learn about his sad family history.
Why conservatives can't be as accepting with other conservatives is a question 'beyond my pay grade' ;-)

Yeah, I just had my fill awhile back now and quit looking forward to what I was hoping would be a somewhat conservative show...but heck, that's just me, it may turn out to be better on down the road...I'll wait for others here to let me know, because I don't even think about turning on anymore.

January 12, 2009 - 17:39 ET by Chris Normanbt,
I hate to say it, but I wish Fox News would quit offering employment to Republican ex-politicians. I don't dislike Huckabee personally, but he seems to suffer from the wobbly-kneed conservatism that John Kasich has demonstrated. As for his show, personally I find it "Hokey-bee" - like a political version of the Lawrence Welk show.

January 12, 2009 - 00:49 ET by RowaneCould you be a bit more inane and snide here?
Ann Coulter epitomises the Conservative (capitol C) woman while Huckabee is a fence stradler from WAY back. He screwed up Arkansas even more than Clinton did and wanted to take it to a national level.
Hopefully the Republicans can find their Conservative roots and get back in line with true conservatism. If they can't we have seen the last of them and good riddance.
funny
January 12, 2009 - 01:55 ET by WesenI don't recollect mentioning Huck as a straddler and Ann certainly doesn't top my list as a principled Conservative. If she was she would have handled herself differently when it counted.

January 12, 2009 - 14:31 ET by thebutlerdiditPeople who don't agree with Anne, because she is blunt, think of her as a witch. Frankly, if you go back and read her columns about Huckabee, she cites where Huck voted for the smoking ban, where he didn't vote against the sodomy issue, and so on. she does have him on this. She is one who documents all her slams, she is a lawyer, she knows what you can and can't say. As for Huck, I want to like him more, but he does come across as slightly swarmy. He seems like a very nice man, just not one who stands up enough for his principles.

Blind Sided
January 13, 2009 - 00:42 ET by Lakewood BobHuckabee blind-sided Ann with his video clips, but I believe she handled it well. I hope she will write a column to provide further illumination. In the mean time I did a google search for RINO and found the following:
- Huckabee came under criticism for his handling of the Wayne DuMond case. The convicted rapist was released; then sexually assaulted and murdered a woman.
- He opposed repel of sales tax on groceries and medicine and signed a bill raising taxes on gasoline and a bed tax on private nursing homes.
-He supported a bill to let some illegal immigrants get scholarships and in-state tuition while vehemently opposing a bill to deny illegals state benefits.
I think Mike has some explaining to do!
