Will Media Report Anger Over Obama's Silence Concerning Gaza?

Photo of Noel Sheppard.

President-elect Barack Obama has been curiously silent about the recent flare up in the Gaza Strip. This apparently is causing some anger internationally from folks that bought into his campaign promises of change and hope.

Will Obama-loving media care, or continue to focus on his chiseled pecs

Such was indirectly asked in a marvelous column published Sunday in Britain's Guardian (emphasis added throughout):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Barack Obama's chances of making a fresh start in US relations with the Muslim world, and the Middle East in particular, appear to diminish with each new wave of Israeli attacks on Palestinian targets in Gaza. That seems hardly fair, given the president-elect does not take office until January 20. But foreign wars don't wait for Washington inaugurations.

Obama has remained wholly silent during the Gaza crisis. His aides say he is following established protocol that the US has only one president at a time. Hillary Clinton, his designated secretary of state, and Joe Biden, the vice-president-elect and foreign policy expert, have also been uncharacteristically taciturn on the subject.

But evidence is mounting that Obama is already losing ground among key Arab and Muslim audiences that cannot understand why, given his promise of change, he has not spoken out. Arab commentators and editorialists say there is growing disappointment at Obama's detachment - and that his failure to distance himself from George Bush's strongly pro-Israeli stance is encouraging the belief that he either shares Bush's bias or simply does not care.

It really is going to be something to watch people all over the world -- and here in America, of course! -- learn just how much different Obama is from the image they were sold by his campaign team and a disgracefully complicit media. But I digress:

The Al-Jazeera satellite television station recently broadcast footage of Obama on holiday in Hawaii, wearing shorts and playing golf, juxtaposed with scenes of bloodshed and mayhem in Gaza. Its report criticising "the deafening silence from the Obama team" suggested Obama is losing a battle of perceptions among Muslims that he may not realise has even begun. [...]

Regional critics claim Obama is happy to break his pre-inauguration "no comment" rule on international issues when it suits him. They note his swift condemnation of November's terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Obama has also made frequent policy statements on mitigating the impact of the global credit crunch.

Yep. Much like he only answers questions at press conferences when they suit his agenda.

Alas, this is the monster media helped create, although it's not at all surprising foreign press members are the first to recognize it.

Will American media ever get it, or are they too invested in this man to do anything but aid and abet his charade?

Stay tuned.

I predict Himself will be quiet and noncommittal on EVERYTHING from now on in and his WH will make the Bushies look chatty. I think he read someplace (Niebuhr no doubt) that you can't get in trouble for what you don't say. And we have almost no press anymore to make him say anything...ergo...

Lawyer in Chief

Never forget that Obama is a lawyer. Lawyers don't speak unless they have to. They speak only when desperate.

The campaign phenomenon is starting to coalesce into his presidency. His defenders have already assumed that Obama will say what they themselves would have said. They project their own political beliefs onto Obama, and by keeping silent, Obama encourages it. He is the blank slate onto which everyone projects their own assumptions, and that makes him everyone's ideal.

Until he opens his own mouth. Then the projection conficts with reality, and Obama wants to postpone that as long as possible.

You are so on target with

You are so on target with this thought.  The empty suit can't be a willing receptacle of projection and thus the supporter's hopes if he shows any action or defines himself by uttering a word.

Look to Hillary Clinton on all matters relating to foreign affairs.

Look to the Cabinet heads (who will take orders from Pelosi and Reid) on all matters relating to domestic affairs.

Look to Obama for pandering platitudes on all matters relating to ethereal affairs.

The message is Obama, Obama is the message.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, starving the poor one gallon of ethanol at a time. Fill your tank with E85 and cull a village.

Lawyers don't speak

I'm not too sure about that comment.  It seems to me that most of the trouble we're in today comes from lawyers speaking.  Too much.  Most legislators are lawyers and they do love the sound of their own voices.  My personal thought on Obama not speaking is that he doesn't have anything to say.  His head is totally empty and there is nothing there other than the echoes of what others say and the wind blowing through.

You're right

I should have said: the smart lawyers.

Unless the annointed one drops a Nuke on Canada, he will beable o get away with nearly anything and the media willl find some way to tie it to the GOP. The 1st 2 years of the "0's" presidency will be protected my the MSM, after 2 years they will see what is what...I hope. I just hope in '12 there is still an America left to rebuild after the after-birth of Jimmy Carter is done with it.

And there are the Code Pink and other anti-war types

How long will it take for them to get spun up when they realize that BHO will actually listen to Gates and the generals on the ground and not abandon Iraq?

And what will they say when those 20,000 additional troops start showing up in Afghanistan?

And perhaps most importantly, what will the non-brainwashed part of the American electorate think when they seee BHO stumbling and bumbling his way through press conferences whilst contradicting himself on just about everything on a daily basis?

The MSM will try and provide cover as best they can, but it won't be able to cover everything.

Man, I wish I was in the popcorn business.

What do the Arabs expect?

"I will strengthen Israel's security and strengthen Palestinian partners who support that vision and personally work for two states that can live side by side in peace and security with Israel's status as a Jewish state ensured so that Israelis and Palestinians can pursue their dreams."

"I also expect to work on behalf of peace with the full knowledge that Israel still has bitter enemies who are intent on its destruction. We see their intentions every time a suicide bomber strikes, we saw their intentions with the katusha rockets that Hezbollah rained down on Israel from Lebanon in 2006 and we see it today in the Kasams that Hamas fires into Israel every single day from as close as Gaza or as far as Tehran."

"The Defense cooperation between the United States to Israel has been a model of success and I believe it can be deepened and strengthened."

That was Obama's promise back in March that he made in Cleveland.  His "silence' today seems to reinforce his stated commitment to Israel.  So, what do the Arabs expect, capitulation to Arabs destruction of Israel?  That's NOT going to happen.

Obama may be many things, but he is not stupid and he knows that his campaign speeches and promises were recorded, so he's not about to say something now that will reverse his earlier statements, not before he get into office anyways.  With all the controversy surround him already, he can't afford another one this close to his inauguration.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

Present?

You mean voting present is not enough anymore?

“We Americans were d@mn tired of being thought of as dumb, by the rest of the world. So we went to
the polls in November and removed all doubt.”

That's what he will do...

He will vote present the whole time...

Not present when you ain't in office

It's kinda hard to "vote" when you haven't taken office yet.

Be realistic, Obama isn't going to do or say anything that would contradict his earlier statements.  The Arabs are hoping Obama will condemn Israel, but that's not going to happen.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

I hope you are right.

Unfortunately Obama's silence is also deafening for Israeli's who have not heard a word of support uttered from the Chosen One, which lends more support for their actions now and before he is inaugurated.

Someone asked me last week what Obama will do once he is President and my answer was "I have no idea."

Will he do this smart thing as you indicated or has the decades of socialist and anti-Israel influence on him sway him to not act in Israel's interests?

This silence is deafening.

Will the Media "get it"

"Will American media ever get it, or are they too invested in this man to do anything but aid and abet his charade?"

Not only does the media "get it", they are totally complicit in this charade.  Obama no longer needs foreign campaign funds that flowed into his coffers, (that will never be investigated), therefore he will protect his Jewish constituents here in America to retain any "local" vote.  Also what the foreign media may be just now realizing is Obama appears not to support a terrorist organization that is still insistant on bringing ruin to the State of Israel.

What ever Obama's official stand is on the subject will be glorified by his American media's investment.  Joe the Plumber also had no comment.

Money Is The Root

Three bearded men are seated at a small round table in a Damascus motel. They have been in discussion for nine hours and the subject is the price of peace in Gaza. The agreement has almost been reached it is now only about how quickly a billion dollars will be transported to Hamas. There have been no discussions about ideology or religion only about the size and delivery of the extortion payment. The men are getting tired and peace will soon return to Gaza.

melpol

Gosh...and I thought

Yasser Arafat was dead.

Gaza must be kinda like Chicago that way.

meltube,

Are you suggesting here that if we just funnel $1 billion to Hamas that they will just magically behave themselves?

So, we should attempt to purchase peace by paying off the aggressors. Might work, too, until they spend all the money.

Then what? $2 billion?

“Them that’s going get on the wagon. Them that ain’t get out of the way.” -Because enough is enough.

Sanjaya - Obama - What's the difference?

95% of the American media behave like 13 year old girls swooning over Sanjaya, when it comes to Obama.

It's embarresing and sickening to behold.

This is why I continuously refer to Obama as the "American Idol President".

Either put a bra on that

Either put a bra on that picture or stop using it. I'm getting nauseous.

Well, the Asian men are all

Well, the Asian men are all going hog wild over "bros" now, so this pec implant think seems to go hand in hand with that. Hey, what ever stimulates the economy. I can't believe I actually agree with Arnold on anything, but Obama does need to do some squats! His legs look like pretzel sticks.

love to be a bug in the wall while BO and Caroline "My daddy was rich; my momma good lookin'" Kennedy were discussing something -- anything -- it really would be, you know uh uh uh, a hoot!

You mean about 3 hours of Obama saying Look uh, uh, we have uh got to uh talk, and Caro saying Oh, like, I know, you know? Scintillating dialog. If you filter out all the excess, it would only be a 10 minute convo.

His aides say he is

His aides say he is following established protocol that the US has only one president at a time.

Funny, because up until this happened, PEBO and his handlers have had plenty to say about everything imaginable, especially the economy.

So now that we are talking about Arabs vs. Jews, an area where PEBO's "prior" associations (Wright & Ayers) were decidedly anti-Semitic and pro-Arab, they suddenly clam up.

Curious, this is.

“Them that’s going get on the wagon. Them that ain’t get out of the way.” -Because enough is enough.

You are right

His silence at this time is deafening and could be significant.

BARRKY'S FAUX PREZ SHIELD sure looked official enough to me ...

... and is he not giving WEEKLY RADIO ADDRESSES on youtube?  I thought that was the President's job.  He also has that HOKEY "change.gov" website (is that legal?) from which he tries to look "presidential".  GIVE ME A BREAK!

Hairless cat------

Could be his silence is lack of core beliefs on the issue, or a core that would reveal his stance on Israel. This guy palled around with Israel haters, domestic terrorists, real estate crooks and various others who would have disqualified any other politician from running for president. Isn't it amazing how Barack gets a pass from the MSM on all his associations, no follow-up, just blind acceptance. A solid candidate with real qualifications like Sarah Palin sure could have used some acceptance from the MSM.

Another thing, by the looks of "The Messiah", he shaves his massive chest, no doubt. The narcissistic SOB is doing his best imitation of a president that he can, but from my perspective it's an imitation of one of those hairless cats.

This guy is going to get us all killed!!!!!

I was wondering if anyone else noticed that

Barack's moobies are WAXED! Oh my goodness, can you imagine what would be said if GWB had spent time on man-waxing? Next he'll be sporting a nipple ring to show off his glorious moobs glinting in the sunlight.....heh.

Skid, Please do not

Skid,

Please do not frighten us with mental pics of him with nipple rings! As for the smooooth chest, I read an article that was written while he was in HI and it said he had visited a local spa there and was waxed. Wonder why that didn't get more attention? I also read recently that the shaved look is out, and "tor-fro" is in. So, he needs to get with the program, all the other "stars" are no longer waxing.

wait just a sec

Since when do our lawmakers not offer opinions because they want to defer to the president?? Where was that philosophy when Pelosi went to Syria against Bush's wishes, Reid emphatically told us the war in Iraq was lost, or Congress passed a hateful resolution against Turkey just to embarrass them?

Now all the sudden they are demure little kittens who don't want to talk over Bush?? That's just plain BS!!!!!

God forbid Obama at least say "here are my feelings on the subject but I will let Bush make policy until he leaves." At least we would have some baseline of how he feels so we know what to expect. This business of totally avoiding it comes off like a cop out.

Hate to break it to you Lord Obama Most Merciful, but this aint south side Chicago anymore - you're in charge of the western world and voting "present" is not good enough.

This is what happens when you marinade in Palestine activism and then realize you can't make policy with that.

Sorry for the rant but I'm pretty annoyed with this.

PS - If we only have one president at a time then why the crap is Obama announcing some big speech on the economy? What, we have one president to handle the ugly stuff and two presidents to take credit for passing out welfare checks? This is such a freaking joke.

I'm a typical white person.

Candace

I think he (or his handlers) I trying to figure out what their real stance is going to be. They are most likely anti-Israel but the U.S. has a long history of support for Israel. The ramifications of a change of US support will have long reaching ramifications for the region. Don't believe I am sympathizing with the O man on this, I am not. He has painted himself in the corner and he and friends can't figure how to get him out with stepping in the paint.

Hamas picked this time period to goad Israel for several reasons. One, the US is in a Government transition and they know any reaction from us would be confused or non-existent. Two, their are whipping up world sympathy for themselves at the expense of Israel. With the world's lefty buffoons falling right in line and in character so far. Three, probably looking for a hint at what Obama's going to do or say about the continuing conflict. Hoping of course that his leftiness and his middle name will mean he is on their side or a sympathizer. Or am I giving Hamas too much credit for strategic thinking.

Change: When the winds of change blow hard enough, the most trivial of things can become deadly projectiles. From a Poster

Candance,

You are exactly right!  And it's so obvious, that it's embarassing.

Obama is silent because he does not know what to do or say.  Way in over his head.  Yes, the media will try their damndest to spin and cover for him, but they can't do that 100%.  Look at what we're doing here.

Perhaps Mr. Obama is merely taking the advice of his hero

Perhaps Mr. Obama is merely taking the advice of his hero Abraham Lincoln:

Quotation #29375 from Classic Quotes:

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. Abraham Lincoln
16th president of US (1809 - 1865)

Well, really

From what I've seen of Obama's actual stated policies, I'd much prefer that he have none. So this is almost a welcome relief.

I am also seriously creeped out by the fact that a 47 year old man shaves his chest. Much about this guy screams out narcissist, including the two autobiographies. If he were a Republican that would be the lede. Can you imagine the presser questions -"Senator, do you shave or wax?".

In all fairness, obama is a

In all fairness, obama is a tad busy dealing with Blago, Richardson, Rham, and Leon Paneta....his 'house of cards' is falling down. down. down.

I think it's a cop-out for Obama to keep saying 'there's only 1 president at a time'.  The least he should do is make a statement supporting the  current admin.
