Just how badly do many liberal bloggers want to depict Israelis as heartless killers and Hamas as poor defenseless victims?
On Sunday, a more than three year old video of an accidental munitions truck explosion at a Palestinian rally in September 2005 was spread around the liberal blogosphere as footage of an Israeli attack on Gaza on January 3, 2009.
Two prominent leftwing websites -- Raw Story and Democratic Underground -- displayed this video for hours before a poster at Reddit exposed the hoax (h/t NBer Blazer).
Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs reported early Sunday:
A gruesome propaganda video uploaded to LiveLeak that purported to show the aftermath of an IDF attack on civilians in Gaza turned out to be a fraud—it actually shows the results of an accidental explosion of a truck full of Hamas rockets at a Palestinian rally.
This didn’t stop the video from reaching the top spot on reddit.com and gaining more than 2,000 up votes, because reddit.com is absolutely infested with antisemites and terror supporters: GRAPHIC Video of Israel Defense Force’s attack on Gaza civilian market — originally uploaded on & banned by YouTube (NSFW) : politics.
Raw Story issued a correction Sunday:
On Sunday, RAW STORY ran video of a bombing in Gaza purported to be recent footage leaked from an exiled Palestinian blogger. We removed the video from the site early Sunday and issued a correction but the original was deleted in a database without the actual html file being removed, so the original persisted through Monday morning without our notice.
The footage is the aftermath of a devastating bombing taking place in a market, said to have been taken on Saturday. According to Haitham Sabbah, it was taken "immediately after a terrorist Israeli air strike hit a busy market where kids with their mothers and fathers were searching for food to eat from one of the local markets early on Saturday 03, Jan 2009."
Raw Story has removed its original article on this matter, but Question Everything still has the text:
As Israel's IDF wages it's [sic] own "media war" via Twitter and YouTube, uncensored footage from Palestine has been completely blacked out in the US.
Until now.
Saturday, before Israel launched a full-scale invasion of Gaza, a Palestinian with a camera witnessed a devastating bombing. His video shows the brutal, bloody results of an air strike on what appears to be a civilian area.
In the footage, scores of bodies - men, women and children - lay strewn about a Gaza market as abject chaos spirals around them. Some struggle to their feet, covered in concrete powder and blood, as others assess their injuries or join the effort to carry away wounded.
Within moments, men in camouflage holding automatic weapons and RPGs assert a growing number among the citizenry. The men, presumably affiliated with Hamas, appear to be helping with crowd control and medical response.
The source of this video was Haitham Sabbah, a self-proclaimed "Palestinian activist and blogger."
Although he too has updated his blog to reflect his error, this is what he originally wrote concerning this video:
This video clip was taken with a mobile camera immediately after a terrorist Israeli air strike hit a busy market where kids with their mothers and fathers were searching for foot to eat from one of the local markets early on Saturday 03, Jan 2009, Gaza.
As you will see, there are no words to describe the terror of the Jewish state of Israhell. This is why Israel is continuously refusing to allow foreign correspondence and reporters from entering Gaza.
Please spread the video widely. Let the world see what their news TV channels won't show about reality of Israel. (YouTube deleted the video minutes after it was uploaded, but it is worth trying again).
Get the code for the video to embed on your blog from: http://sabbah.blip.tv/#1642223.
I guess that's all it takes to get anti-Israeli propaganda spread throughout the liberal blogosphere these days.
How sad.

January 5, 2009 - 18:11 ET by GrannyGrump42If the MSM were doing their jobs, the lead story would be "Bloggers fooled by Hamas hoax" and they'd show photos from the truck explosion, and show how it's just stills from this video, and they'd start asking who is feeding these videos to the bloggers and using them to inflame hatred.
Jarry Mack, I am with you.
January 5, 2009 - 18:40 ET by R D HelmI believe this Palestinian propaganda artist who posted this initially knew full well that it was false, but was counting on the dumbMasses to eat it up.
Probably would have worked, too, if not for the blogosphere.

They do not run a story stating the correct facts. They simply remove the story. By then all damage is done. At a later date they can say they printed a retraction thus accurate reporting.

BO picks LEON PENATTA to run CIA

Leon Penatta?????????????
Well, I guess he's as qualified to be running the CIA as Obama is to be running the entire country.
Given that the CIA....

But then again putting someone with no intel experience in charge of CIA in a time of war with a CINC who doesn't have much of a clue about much of anything doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Typical rush to publish
January 5, 2009 - 16:13 ET by SpaceManSpiffTypical rush to publish anything that supports their agenda. If Israel was smart, they'd wage more information warfare. They've yet to do it, which is why international support for them is weak. IW is cheap and effective. It cost the US Vietnam, Somalia, and nearly Iraq part II. It's causing unrest in the U, and keeps most of the EU paralyzed with uncertainty. This is a perfect example of effective IW. It cost the enemy only a few minutes of their time, but likely impacted the opinion of many people. It's no different than hearing the slogan 'hope' and 'change' for over a year. If people hear something often enough, the eventually start to believe it. Journalists who repeat misinformation should be held accountable, and not just with flimsy retractions.

Now the Pallywood propagandists are trying to tell us they were just trying to move some oxygen bottles .
1. Don't believe a word of it, Mr. Propagandaboy.
2. Ok. We will humor you. Israel has been attacking various sites around Gaza because thousands long cylindrical objects have been raining down on Israel originating from Gaza. Gaza is now a battlefield in a WAR ZONE.
Are you going to tell me there are people that are this level of rock stupid as to be attempting to move long cyclindrical objects while another country is actively trying to destroy long cyclindrical objects by any means neccessary? If this is the case, then we do indeed need a new class of munitions to TAKE YOUR SPECIAL BRAND OF STUPID OUT.

Those IDF videos are a good
January 5, 2009 - 17:20 ET by SpaceManSpiffThose IDF videos are a good start, but they lack a human interest impact. They need more cowbell, er, splash regarding the damage they are doing to Israel/non-combatants. They play like a government report. Factual, but dry. By adding a dash of nationalism and adding the human element, they would get tons more play, and thereby be much more effective on shaping public opinion.

Sunday afternoon, I spent
January 5, 2009 - 17:59 ET by celatorSunday afternoon, I spent two hours listening to Israel National Radio (from Jerusalem) on my Wifi Radio. The program was a news/talk/call in format. Very interesting, indeed.
Among the comments made: the Israelies have copies of the Hamas public relations news stories which have been sent to world-wide media. The government is in the process of correlating published newspaper stories and TV news with these Hamas propaganda pieces to determine which US media and other world wide media are simply repeating the Hamas talking points. They will report their findings in the near future.
Also, the general tone of the callers re cleaning out the Hamas terrorists in Gaza was: "It's about time".
One caller noted that the current criticism about Isreal's "unproportional" response to the Hamas rockets was: "If they wanted a proportional response, we should have fired one rocket back to Gaza, for every rocket aimed at Israeli citizens all these years." Good point, I thought.
In the two hours I listened, I heard no reference whatsoever about Obama, or Obama's lack of response to the situation. They did play a tape of President Bush's comments several times. Interesting, I thought. Not sure what that means, if anything.

What a sad thing to see no
January 5, 2009 - 18:16 ET by RR GOPWhat a sad thing to see no matter when it was taken.
Of course there are going to be civilian casualties...but similar scenes have been filmed in Israel repeatedly over the years.
We all know Hamas is characteristically using mosques, schools, residential areas to try to save their butts...nothing new from the pages of the Islamofascist playbook.
But, two things. One-Hamas was elected by the people of Gaza, and they didn't suddenly become a terrorist organization since then. I don't know what per cent of the citizens there are against violence against Israeli civilians, but I can bet that it's very low since the Liberals and the MSM claim it's very high. Therefore, they should expect to have themselves and their families share the same risks and sacrifices for their cause if that's how they choose to go about it.
Two-If the Israelis are so evil, then what difference would it make where the Hamas terrorists are hiding themselves and their rockets? Wouldn't the evil Israelis simply carpet bomb everywhere?
We and the Israelis and many others know darn well that taking cover in a school filled with children wouldn't protect those fighting against the Islamic terrorists, because they are evil and, besides, would probably target the school anyway. (anyway, we and our allies wouldn't hide behind women and children, even if such an action would protect us.)

Losers
January 6, 2009 - 03:22 ET by GregorovitchIf 6000 rockets fell on San Francisco would they expect the American
Government to do something? Based on this Israel/Gaza situation
Liberals would support whoever was shelling San Francisco.
KOS/DU/Huffpo and the MSM (particularly the NY Times and CNN) are to America what NAMBLA is to children. One ignores the girls while the other ignores truth, ethics and integrity to the same extent. I'm sure they would tell me I'm wrong but they can't prove me wrong or they wouldn't be doing what they are doing.
The terrorists are laughing their asses off!
January 6, 2009 - 08:26 ET by c5thenLook how easy it is to use these pure idiots as useful fools to get the terrorist's propaganda and lies out to the world. These fools believe the lies because thay WANT them to be true. They don't want to hear about the IDF calling ahead to warn innocent people that a particular biuling is about to be destroyed. They don't want to hear about the IDF taking casualties because they didn't want to injur innocent civilians being used as sheilds by the 'brave' Hamas terrorists. They prefer the lies because it reinforces their own prejudices and twisted view of reality.
Hey, I got the wrong "CHANGE"!
